Had some relatives stay at this hotel recently. They liked it, but it's hardly a four star hotel like most Hiltons. It's been through lots of name changes and buyouts, I remember when it was the Red Lion Inn. Hilton has done a nice job of renovating the rooms, so they're mostly nice but not luxurious.. Everything worked well, the lights, AC, TV, etc. There was no fridge, though. The room looked very clean when they entered and did a nice job of keeping it that way.
There were lots of elevators, so you didn't have to wait too long for them. The location is good, it's right off the freeway, and not too far from John Wayne Airport. They have a Starbucks inside, along with a sit down restaurant, a shoeshine vendor, and even a car rental agency. The rental people even helped take stuff out of cars when the hotel employees were busy. Room rates were fair. But parking was expensive. At least it's monitored during the day which I like.
I had been to this hotel complex many times attending conferences in the rooms below the lobby. Once we had a catered lunch, and it was ok, not bad and not great. There are decent restaurants down the street, and South Coast Plaza is nearby. But don't try to walk to the mall. It's dangerous there with the multiple lanes of vehicle traffic to cross if you walk. Night time walking there is as treacherous as when Indiana Jones fell into the cave of snakes.
The pool, was small and not very attractive around it, it didn't make you want to swim there. Also, the view was lousy, Out of the room my relatives stayed, there was a 7-11 and a gas station. The lobby of the hotel inside was nice, however. All in all, if you got a good price, it's ok.
This is a lean and tastefully appointed property close by to the south coast plaza and the 405 freeway.
Check-in was quick and very friendly. As a hilton diamond member I received free parking and free internet access which I am glad I did since the parking was like 20 bucks a day.
Hilton usually charges 10 bucks a day for internet access by some properties comp it for their gold and diamond members. I would be irate if i was forced to pay the extra 30 dollars a day for both services as I am sometimes charged by other Hilton properties.
Our room was very clean but overall generally average. It was not any better than a hilton garden inn. Though the balcony was a nice feature.
Overall, a pretty basic Hilton no real pros or cons.
This hotel would be very good for business travellers. Close to downtown, close to freeways, your company pays for parking.
However, for leisure, I'm not sure it's the best. The rooms are nice, but the pool area is lacking. It is right next to a busy road that they try to hide with tall bushes, but you can still hear the cars. They try to hide the noise with a waterfall noise, but it doesn't get the job done.
The $20 per day parking is another thing too. There is no where to park and even walk in to avoid this fee. All in all, this is nice, but not very conducive to vacationing.
Well thank goodness I booked this hotel via Priceline. Otherwise I would've demanded my money back (or at least partial refund). First of all, you have to pay for parking in their own "special garage" which is $20/night. The room wasn't even that special, no fridge, and the bedding was kind of old. I didn't feel like I was in a four-star hotel. When I called to confirm my reservation, I was put on hold for over 5 mins. When I called back, the desk clerk rushed me. I had to probe to get the answers I wanted.
I guess considering the fact that I won the room for $50/night, it isn't so bad. But they should really disclose that it's not really a 4 star hotel...more like 3 at most. Truly disappointed.
Came here for a weekend workshop required for one of my Pepperdine MBA classes. Pepperdine booked me a King-sized room for a very reasonable Hilton price of $119. This is definitely more a business than leisure hotel. I would consider staying here again as a business out of town guest, but not as a vacation guest. The hotel is located near the 405 fwy and within walking distance of South Coast Plaza and The Anti-Mall (aka The Lab). There is not much to be seen around here besides business buildings and random fast food joints.
The hotel itself definitely feels old and in need of renovation, but it was still clean. The layout is kind of funny with elevators on one side and stairs/escalators on the total opposite. They do have a small Starbucks in the lobby as well as a bar/restaurant if you need a food and drink fix.
My hotel room was clean and spacious and the bed was as good as any other Hilton or Hyatt King-sized bed I've laid in - lots of soft pillows, a medium firm mattress, and a wonderful comforter.
Internet will cost you a whopping $13.95/night and parking will cost you even more at $16/night. Yikes!! These high end hotels sure know how to squeeze every teensy penny out of our near empty pockets.
I stayed at this hotel for a meeting, my department has a contract with them. The stay was nice and comfortable, but it could've been better. After I have already checked in the manager lady mentioned upgrading me after finding out where I was from, but never did it. Boo! There were a few little neat places to walk to for lunch and dinner. There's a little gym, pool, and spa on the second floor. Everyone was pretty nice for the most part, I guess I didn't enjoy it so much since I wasn't familiar with the area. I forgot one more thing...I had to pay $13.95 for internet on my last stay of the night because the air card my work gave me kept kicking me off...that was a bit irritating.
*P.S. THE CITY AND ZIPCODE IS WRONG FOR THIS HOTEL LOCATION...IT'S COSTA MESA, CA 92626...
Here for Business? OK. Fine. Or for shopping at South Coast mall, good too. A vacation stop...not so much, in my view.
The hotel is fine - and has great amenities for the business traveler. The location is fine and central if you are traveling for business in OC. Not a vacation destination for me anyway....too much concrete and commerce.
For convenience in OC, this is great, the rooms are comfy, parking in the garage was included (for my conference anyway), internet access was OK.
Good bar and decent restaurant onsite and plenty of good restaurants nearby. Pretty convenient overall.
This place was utterly terrible for a "4-Star" rated hotel. I was visiting some friends down in So Cal, so we wanted a really nice hotel room to chill and maybe party in too. Shortly after we checked in, we got to our room and found out that they "accidentally" double-booked the room w/ another guest. No big deal, so we went down to the lobby and had them straighten it out. The next room we were moved to, BAM!!!, low and behold, the hotel screwed up AGAIN, and double-booked the room. They delightfully also double-booked the same guest AGAIN to our room - wow was she hella pissed.
Finally after we got another room (3rd time moving), we settled in only to find out that our broadband connection couldn't work. We had to call down to the front desk to have someone look at it. Took like 1hr before the IT dude showed up, and he couldn't get it to work. At this point we were too busy and hungry, so we said screw it. The people at the frontdesk told us that the hotel would comp us for our parking ($15/day for parking) for all our troubles.
After going out that night, we come back and find out that the water is a bit clogged in the shower... DELIGHTFUL!!!...So we had to put up w/ this crappy room for 2 nights. The staff were always nice and tried to help, but I swear this hotel was crap the whole weekend.
After we checked out, the frontdesk assured me that our parking was taken care of and didn't have to worry about anything. A few days later, BAMM, I got charged on my credit card for the parking during the trip... wtf.... Luckily, I saved my parking slip that showed it was comped... and I had to call the hotel and fax it over to them as proof. After a few days, they finally credited that charge back to my VISA. What a wonderful way to top off this crappy experience.
I'd avoid this specific hotel if at all possible.
I got a regular room on the second floor, and had no balcony :(. The room was alright, but I couldn't believe that they had an old school TV.
The parking structure was stupidly designed, plus they charge 17 for parking. BOO!
Also, I was disappointed that the Starbucks in the lobby did not have close to a full menu. What about my cravings for frappuccino?
I've been to many a Hilton and this one was pretty mediocre. Thank goodness we were able to book a "friends and family" rate for $99. We got a king room and seriously, I would not have been happy if I paid the $200+ regular rate for the same room. The room we had WREAKED of Aqua Net. Like the last people in there just went nuts in the bathroom trying to get their hair did! Either that or they sprayed it on the wallpapered walls and the stench just lingered. After opening our tiny balcony door, the smell eventually went away.
I will say that room service was prompt and it was actually good. BUT...I was starving so anything might have tasted good at that point.
I think this hotel is good for a quick business trip or any other trip where you don't have to spend much time in the room. Thank goodness for the OC Fair and concerts!
Unlike the other reviewer, my stay at this Hilton was splendid. I arrived late on Friday and was offered prompt and courteous service. My Hilton Honors membership (gold) allowed me free self parking instead of paying $16 and free access to the executive lounge which offers breakfast and beverages all day. Also offers happy hour in the evening, along with appetizers for free.
The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel was quite and located quite conveniently right off the highway and very close to South Coast Plaza.
Agree with the other reviewer (hence 4 stars) about Bristol Palms. Awful food, awful drinks, however the service was great.
I loved this hotel. The girls working in the bar were smoking hot!! I would go back just to see them.
Pretty nice digs here... at least for the Executive Suite. My friend got rooms at this Hilton for her wedding this weekend. The front desk and staff were extremely helpful and quick to tend any last minute requests or needs. Need a sewing kit? Call the front desk! Need a bandaid? Go buy it at the gift store! Our room was large and clean. Loved the spacious bathroom and the huge living area. There was also complimentary breakfast and coffee waiting for us.
This is a rating for the Hilton's restaurant: Bristol Palm Calif Bistro.
The food was bland, bland, bland and very much overpriced. In particular, the food just did not match the descriptions on the menu. I ordered a tuna melt which was supposed to have mustard and be on sourdough, and neither was true. It was so bland I had to put salt on it.
Stayed here for three nights and my credit card went missing one of the nights which prompted me to call my cc and ask about the last several transactions. i'm not suggesting that anyone from hilton took it, but i did find very disturbing that there were extraneous charges from hilton that i did not approve. i called the front desk to inquire, and to my shock they charged me $25 for the bottled fiji water in my room that i did not drink.. in fact, i looked over and the $5 fiji water was sitting there unopened. and if i did consume it, how could hilton charge $25?? then there were a couple other charges which hilton said was for parking. the guy at the front desk told me parking was free for guests! i found my experience more an inconvenience and burdensome trying to resolve these charges than comfortable - of which the latter should be a priority of hotels!
