Great view... rooms were huge and clean. Comforter was nice and fluffy. We stayed down here during our little trip to SD and it was quite nice! :)
Pros:
View, each room is staggered so that even the crappiest rooms have a view of the tiny blue sliver that is known as the ocean.
Soundproofing was done well.
Staff was very courteous.
Cons:
Outrageous parking prices.
The fact that I felt like a lab rat. "Take this elevator down to the second floor and walk a mile and turn the corner to get to your room."

i attended a 3 day conference here. i was looking forward to staying here mainly because torrey pines golf course hosts the buick invitational and tiger owns this course (4 wins in a row). and torrey pines is hosting this year's us open.
i was immediately impressed by the staff. the employees were all very sweet and hospitable. i called the operator (marion) to have my suit pressed. she said she would send someone to pick up the suit. sure enough, a knock on the door 5 minutes later and my suit was taken to be pressed. marion called a few minutes after that to see if the suit had been picked up. nice.
the guest room was well-appointed...lg flat screen, nice big desk, wireless or ethernet, patio over looking the garden and easy to use clock radio/alarm. the room was clean and good sized as was the bathroom.
the downside to this property was the public areas. they need some rejuvenation and a renovation. badly. the restaurant and lounge areas are situated in an ideal location right off a beautiful outdoor area but were hardly occupied at around 6:30pm on a thursday (happy hour time). and the hotel was sold-out! the restaurant tables were set with the old-style triangular napkin folds, the silver chafing dishes still had quiche lorraine remnants...they should really re-concept this place. and the decor is from the early 80's. i'm talking joan rivers-style facelift.
despite all of this, i endured a martini at the lounge. i started to feel like i was living through an episode of the "golden girls".

Here for one night, Friday, for a work meeting on Saturday (on my bday weekend, aarrrggghh!). The hotel is sort of elusive. When the car pulled up to the circular driveway of the hotel, it seemed more like someone's extremely large estate. As you walk into the lobby you realize that you are on the top floor of this uniquely elegant hotel perched atop La Jolla's coastline overlooking the legendary Torrey Pines Golf Course and looking out towards the Pacific Ocean. In a few months this course will be host to the 2008 US Open.
This is a business trip so obviously I didn't get a "premium" room but my room actually had a nice view out onto the golf course with a glimpse of the coastline/Pacific Ocean. The room was quite spacious with a decent size bathroom. This hotel is rated as a 4-diamond resort. Too bad I'm rushing back to SF after the meeting tomorrow otherwise it would have been nice to play on the course where golf greats will be teeing off from in a few months at the upcoming US Open.
If you're vacationing in San Diego/La Jolla and golf is at the top of your things to do on your vacation...this place should be on your destination list.
Low-key, no-frills, beige hotel
Good way to retreat from tourist crowds and craziness. Pretty much business suits, golfers and an occasional wedding. Nice and quiet. Hardly any kids running amok.
Clean and tidy.
Acceptable pool, smallish jacuzzi, and gym.
Staff is friendly and helpful.
Restaurant is what you would expect from a hotel restaurant. Only one complaint- The seared Ahi had GRISTLE. That was new and weird.
SPECIAL BONUS FEATURE (of uncertain value)
The toilet is in a small alcove and it magnifies all of the sounds accompanying a sit down toilet transaction times TEN.
Whoa.
HELPFUL TIPS
1) The handicapped room is right next to the elevator shaft which is noisy. Even noiser are the housekeeping carts that come barreling out in the early morning. LOUD. It's a quiet peaceful place except for room 3058.
2) Toilet visits. Get in and get out. Hum or sing to block out the thunder.

Not spectacular, but certainly NICE.
If you're looking for a place to crash in comfort, this is good.... just keep in mind, this is a light room with a bed, NOT a beach resort destination.
The staff is accommodating, but the room service is pretty awful. If you would like food late at night, it's better to order food to go from a restaurant near-by and then send it downstairs to be re-heated.

The room size was nice and pretty but so are any typical 4 star hotels. Yes, it had nice views and trails to walk around but the hotel itself did not have much to offer. There was 1 store and 1 restaurant that was over priced! The lobby was plain and the staff was ok! Not spectacular, but certainly NICE.

Checked in and had ZERO faults!! Staff was great! Although the room indicated it was ready, when I opened the door, AHHHHHH, dirty sheets-trash in basket!! Have no fear Allison, was near! Allison at the front desk was way cool, and apologized tooo much for the inconvenience. Problem was, the room cleaning maids apparently list rooms as 'clean' before they are really ready... Somethin up there...
Anyway, so far all is well!! 8~) Only 4 stars cause I have'nt left yet!!
I have stayed at this hotel for the past three years, during an annual conference. In addition to the great rooms with awesome views, the amenities are great. The pool room, workout room, and gold course are amazing.
It definately has a resort feel, and is close enough for a drive down to La Jolla for a day trip, or just for dinner.

How many hotels can you experience in La Jolla/UTC area with a 4 Diamond rating, new contemporary rooms, balconies in every room, views of the ocean, great staff and Hilton Honors Points? Oh, yes they have the biggest TV's...
You feel in Hawaii at this hotel, away from the noise and crazy UTC area...

I did have the fortunate opportunity to stay here and it was a lovely experience, but this Hotel is very pricey and if I was staying in a hotel in La Jolla I would much rather it be in the Village. Plus, I'm not a golfer and I know this hotel is appealing to many because it right on the Torrey Pines Golf Course.
I stayed here because I was with a family member who came here for a conference, thus I didn't have to pay for anything, but I had the money, I would much rather use the funds to pay for a suite at the La Valencia. Although that hotel is smaller it has a lot more charm.

This place is getting a little outdated, but still a huge full service hotel. I came here many years ago for a conference, and last weekend for a Hindu-Jewish wedding that lasted all day. I was quite impressed by the catering of the food and waitstaff. But I thought the interior, especially bedrooms, looked faded and needed some updating.
Amazing view of the golf course!!! My co-worker had a room that had the hugest deck I have ever seen, overlooking the golf course!
Only complaint is that the room service isn't 24 hours and there really aren't any options for late night dining. What are hungry travelers supposed to do when they check-in at 11:30pm?
Frank Lloyd Wright inspired mega-business/golf hotel that is a good option if you want to stay in a lovely area away from the hustle and bustle of San Diego. The rooms are nothing to brag about and the views are nice if you enjoy golf courses. Unfortunately the golf course sits between the hotel and the ocean, basically obstructing views and making beach access difficult. This is obviously a big plus if you're a golfer, however! Parking is easy, the pool area is pleasant, and the staff are helpful.
On two occasions we've been able to get rooms normally going for $250+ for $80 (biz trip during the week) to $150 (over 4th of July weekend) on Priceline. If you can snag a deal like this it's well worth the stay.

i stayed here a couple years back on a business trip. got to experience nearly every part of the hotel. :)
rooms- spent 2 nights alone in a nicely-sized, very clean and quiet room with a balcony overlooking the pool.
pool- got to enjoy some nice pool-time during my stay. it was july, so it was scorching hot out. pool was not huge, but was not crowded at all, plenty of lounge chairs to go around. beautiful views of the golf course.
hotel restaurant (not sure in the name)- had a nice big plate of pasta and ate solo while reading a book. good service with veiws of the pool and an outside patio area.
golf course- didnt play golf here, as not much of a golfer, but had a very nice dinner reception out here. dined under the stars.
overall, service was great here, felt very clean, safe, and slightly luxe. not the most plush hotel, but its def a beautiful stay while in La Jolla.
would def stay there again... but this time, not solo. :)
