What a lovely place to stay.  Feels like home on a beautiful farm with real live roosters that wake you up at dawn.

Hotel staff truly show the Aloha Spirit of the islands.  Rooms/Property nicely upgraded.

If you want hula girls, luaus, fire dancing and surfing lessons DO NOT stay here.  Don't bring the kids either... PLEASE!  This is an AWESOM getaway.  The property is beautiful.  The beach is for looking at, NOT for swimming, that's what the pools, yes multiple, are for.  If you want the touristy cheeky hula shows and the like, go back to Waikiki.  This is Kauai and entertainment is what YOU make of it.

There is a reason Kauai is called "The Garden Island".  It's a nature-packed outdoor adventure.  If your an adult that wants to just relax and maybe get some sun and fresh air, this is the place.  Even though I was out on business, it still was relaxing.  As a matter of fact I'm writing this review, sitting on the lanai, watching the waves and the almost-full moon while soaking up the soft trade-winds.  Aloha!

This past week I went to Kauai and stayed at the Hilton Kauai for my honeymoon and I have to say, I had a great time.

The hotel is a reincarnation of older hotels but it covers all my bases I look for: cold rooms, comfortable beds and super quiet. Check, check, check.

We got an upgrade on our room to the lagoon view over the mountain view, great by me. We didn't go to Hawaii to stay in our room, so it really didn't matter.

The rooms are ample, nice, upgraded, and have amazing Hilton beds. (Every bed at Hilton from Hampton Inn on up is top notch. I love 'em.)

Customer Service was great. Never had an issue. The guy in the hut by the pool is super cool with towels, the folks at the front desk are great to talk to, the valet/bell guys were cool and chatted you up when you come in, etc. The only issue I had was figuring out which drinks were discounted during happy hour. They said "$3 tropical drinks" but I found out the hard way it was only Mai Tais. No big deal.

Great place to say. Close to everything in Kauai, in the middle of the island (basically), and a great bouncing point to a bunch of good beaches and places to eat. Will go back...

I was drastically UNDERwhelmed by this Hilton...

It has a few pro's...
1. Location - it's centrally located on the island, so a good jump off point for excursions.
2. Beds/rooms - it's Hilton... you get a comfortable bed and a clean nice room (which you hopefully don't see much of in HI).
3. Grounds - well kept, clean, attractive

Con's...
1. Staff. They were friendly, but in the "we have to smile and be nice because it's our job but we really hate being here and hate you even more for being on vacation..." sort of way. No one was outwardly hostile, but no one was happy to see us either.
2. Food. It was good, but not at all special. For $$$$$ that they charge for food at the resort, it should have left some impression other than "eeh" when eating it.
3. Prices. Everything - rental gear, drinks, food.... WOW. Super expensive. I'm used to resort prices, but geez!

RANT: DO NOT USE THE EXPEDIA TRAVEL DESK AT ALL!!!!
My husband and I are seasoned travelers. We do research on the internet, sites like Yelp, tripadvisor, google, etc. and figure out our excursions prior to our departure. We check with the concierge to see if they have any better deals, or local stuff that we could not find online.

Not only was this concierge (expedia travel desk) guy pushy and rude, he downright LIED to us and used 'scare tactics' to try and talk us into booking with his vendor instead of someone we found through another source. He told us 'cheaper prices on flights means they sacrifice safety' when we asked him about a airplane ride using someone other than his vendors (the other guy was more expensive too - better/different airplane). He also stated that there was only one sailboat that did rides of the Na Pali (northern) coast. WRONG! There is a guy out of the North that does them too, but Mr Concierge guy wanted us to book with his guy in the South...

This is not Hilton's fault, as the Expedia folks are independent. It is very disappointing. I speak with a concierge to give me the 'local scoop' or a discount that I can't get myself.  Instead of being helpful, this guy was pushing his agenda and not listening to what we were saying - at all. I wanted to make sure people got the word to do their own research and not let these folks bully you into higher priced tours when there are other, better, alternatives.

Having never been to Kauai and after reading reviews about the beach not being so great, we were a little leery of this resort.  Having free Hilton honor points for 4 nights free, we couldn't pass it up.

Upon entrance to the hotel (at night) we were impressed with the tiki torches and grounds and the attention of the bellboys.  Elizabeth at the front desk greeted us with the kindest of greetings - and she upgraded us to an ocean view room.  With it being dark and hearing the crashing of the ocean, I didn't know what was in store for our morning view. It was breathtaking. The ocean was within crawling distance.  What a way to start our day.

The room was typically small but who cares - it's Hawaii and you should be out and about.  No complaints on the room whatsoever.  The bed and pillows were comfy - 6 pillows total.  The linens were fresh and there was soap, shampoo and towels in the bathroom.  4 days without TV for a tv junkie - not even sure if there was one.  The grounds are non-smoking so there are designated smoking areas with the closest to me being at the entrance of the beach.

The beach is not for those looking to snorkel, swim or sunbathe.  It's great for combing and romantic strolls.  If you're looking for a typical beach to s, s and s, Lydgate is about 5 (if that) miles north of the Hilton.

Never tried the food but I read they have a breakfast buffet every morning at $23 a pop.

They have a booth at the front desk (I believe it had a tie-in with Expedia) which could help you plan activities around the island.

The cabana at the pool area has fresh beach towels which require a card to get and the cards are issued upon check-in - one per guest.  The cabana guy is very knowledgeable about local eateries and activities.  You can rent chairs, umbrellas (las las las), snorkeling gear and bodyboards from him and charge them to you room.

That's about it - a great place with a friendly attentive staff and an ocean front view (if you get ocean front) from your room to die for.

This place is just O-K.  I think it would have been better had I not stayed at the Kauai Marriot Beach Resort the year before, which was fantastic.

The room, in my opinion was superior to the Marriott in that it seemed to actually have a decor.  I think Marriott has the same set up with different pictures in frames.

The bathroom, however, is the typically small Hilton bathroom, which I hate.

The resort, if you can call it that, is disappointing.  It is not very large at all, and I feel that they have very little in the way of amenities.

The pool area is a joke.  There are several different pools, but they are all connected.  The area in front of the ocean is nice and serene, and you can take a joke or walk along the shore.  The service at the pool area is sparse and not great when you do get someone to pay attention to you.  I suspect, however, that this is due to the fact that they only have one poor person serving EVERYONE who is at the pool.   I had a terrible drink and burger on my first afternoon there.  I then vowed to never eat at the pool area again.

The restaurant (as someone else mentioned) is overpriced mediocre.  My package included breakfast daily, but I only ate their once as I really did not enjoy it.  You can go somewhere else and get a way better meal. They did not have macadamia nut pancakes!!!!

Upon arrival to the hotel, we were always given a warm and friendly greeting by the staf.  I have no complaints about anyone there.

There is a very cheesy lounge act nightly in the bar area.  No thank you.

Not enough choices if you want to stay on the "resort" after dark.

All in all, if you are looking for value, I would recommend this place because it's about $100 cheaper PER NIGHT than some of the other name brand hotels on the island, but now that I've stayed there, I know why.

We spend the last two days of our recent vacay here. After a week in a condo down by the Beach House restaurant, we were happy to be in a spot for a few days where we felt 100% pampered.

Most of the rooms are ocean-facing, spacious, and well-appointed. The restaurant was nothing amazing where the food was concerned, but it was tasty and had very attentive service.

We spent a day poolside and the service at the pool was attentive as well. We opted to rent a small cabana for $25, which allowed us to spend the whole day by the pool because we could relax in the shade when we wanted to.

The best thing about this resort was the people and the service ... everyone was friendly, helpful, and out to make our stay as perfect as possible.

Two of my pickiest friends stayed here, which said to me it was safe. And indeed it was. Clean. Friendly staff. Great pools. Close to Lydgate Park, which was a great beach for beginning snorkelers. Free Mai Tais every day during happy hour (although we discovered that if you had too many Mai Tais at 5 pm you weren't sober enough to drive elsewhere for dinner and hotel options were limited).

We had a lagoon view room, but the best view was poolside. We never understood why people were facing the pool when they could be facing the ocean.

And no need for a wake up call, friendly local roosters will take care of that for you.

My stay on Kauai was short and very busy so I didn't have the chance to enjoy all the ammenities the hotel had to offer.  BUT, I give the hotel 4 stars because the staff is friendly and they have the best BEDS.  It was like sleeping on a cloud.  Their Serenity Bed is heaven!  You can even purchase the bed online.  The room was cozy, there was a nice chaise lounge, the decor was tropical but modern and the bed....HEAVEN.  I didn't even have the chance to walk around the resort because of all the daytime activities on Kauai but I did enjoy my stay.

Here's a hint: If you want to travel to Kauai, I suggest going during the whale season which is normally Dec- April.  Do the Napali Coast tour and you get two for the price of one! Whale watching AND the Napali Coast tour.  Anytime time of the year is a good time to visit Hawaii really.

We stayed here last year but my offical review was on Trip Advisor.  We loved this place for this short list:  Free valet, very nice rooms, big pool & hot tubs, free drinks in the early evening & we loved that it was in the middle of everything - close to Kapaa, only :45 minutes all the way to the north and another :40 to the south - right in the middle.  The staff was very nice here & accomidating.  On our last day we checked out, but we had a full day of activites - they let us use their guest room to shower and clean up before our nightly flight.

I believe there are two things you should expect from a hotel, the ambience and the staff. Together, they should serve in perfect compliment to each other to meet the needs of the targeted customer.

This hotel is located on a resort ground, sharing the beach with 2 other villas, time share condos. Although it is considered a "manicured/landscaped beach front" on their website, this beach is not swim-able by most people due to very rocky shores. It is located about 5 minutes from Lihue Airport and near town of Kapaa.

The hotel recently went under a multi-million dollar renovation. Beautiful Balinese furnishings and local decor sets the mood of a relaxing island vacation. The layout is open and airy on the interior, and exterior is lush and tropical inspired. There are 2 swimming pools, 1 pool for volleyball, 1 kiddie ppol complete with water slide, and still! 2 heated spa pools. Soft towels, wonderful bathroom and desktop amenities, free Wifi connection in your room (approx 28.8kps, but hey, don't complaint, you are suppose to be on vacation anyways!) powerful AC (so that your room stays dry and cool).

So with all of that said, you may ask why is this wonderful hotel only a 3 star in my book?
The staffs need training. The service is mediocre at best. It seems like; they avoid you once you checked and any point after that is an inconvenience to them.  There were numerous problems with our room, it is located across from the ice vending machine, and it makes horrible loud noises whenever someone gets ice, and every morning, the vend or something also make very loud alarming sound. I honestly think there should not be a room in that location.

Thanks to our overwhelmingly good mood, we over look those shortcomings and had a wonderful relaxing vacation after all.

A beautiful resort and oceanfront property in the South Shore with a gorgeous outdoor pool area. Lush, tropical waterfalls, two hot tubs, water slide, and grotto are some of the wonderful features you will find.

Rooms are newly decorated in a plantation theme in honor of the various plantations that used to inhabit the island. Everything was well-coordinated, clean, and crisp. Crabtree and Evelyn products are in every room.

This was a great, great place. I would have given 5 stars if they had a better internet access procedures. They should add more computers or charge people for computer usage so people don't have to wait long for their turn. There is a sign that says charges will occur but it's not enforced at all. Also wished they provided beach mats along with the towels since they charge a mandatory resort fee.

I got a sweet all-inclusive deal directly thru Hilton. It included a rental car and daily breakfast buffet which was delicious!

Hope to post pix soon!!

not impressed ... you'd expect more from hilton.

best features: mega pool area and courtyard.
the hotel kinda nickel-n-dimes for everything.
e.g. beach towel is $25/each if you misplace ...
how to relax pool side if you gotta track towels?

restaurant mediocre yet pricey ... not impressed.

If you are looking for a secluded quiet location that is midway btwn both highways, Hilton is a good spot. Personally, I like the location for these reasons. It is also conveniantly about 5-10 min away from Lihua airport.

It is a decent place. We had a ocean-view room which overlook part of the ocean and in front of the swimming pool. Note that this is not a ocean-front room which is better.

You cannot really swim on the beach but it is nice to stroll. Service was fine and folks were friendly.

The gym is small but decent.

December 2007: No, thank you.

The staff was very friendly. The hotel was not.

Our small, dark room smelled like mildew when we walked in. The beds were okay, but the room was cramped and claustrophobic. The bathroom was similarly small and dark, and like the rest of the room, in need of an upgrade.

The room service menu was limited and uninteresting. Our one room-service meal was plain, boring, and poorly presented. We had dinner in the dining room one night, which was very good in spite of the limited menu.

The "coffee bar" was a pair of pump pots in the gift shop. The pools were very attractive, but the weather was cool and the pools aren't heated so they weren't much use to us.

There are many great hotel properties on Kauai, but this most definitely is not one of them.

We just stayed a week at this resort for our honeymoon, and were very pleased with the hotel. There are some kinks they need to work out because of switching owners/updating. Overall the food for room service was excellent (the burgers were way good, and the best mai tai we had on the trip). The staff was also super friendly, especially the valet guys. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. They had comfortable rooms, and great service.  The location was also key. We were on the east shore which was less than a 30 min drive to either the north or south shores. And, close to Kapaa which was also fun.

Rooms are clean and well maintained by awesome staffers, ample free parking, and super close to the airport. Wireless internet is promised in each room on various websites, but there are only wi-fi hot spots in the lounge and some parts of the lobby. Daily "Resort Fee" is steep, @ $13-$15/day so take advantage of the manager's special with free mai tais, beers, and wine every night between 5pm-6pm.  Overall, a good home base for exploring the island.
