Review from Maria O.
I would stay here again. Room was clean, nice, and comfortable. Included small fridge and microwave, free wifi. Can't rate pool or parking as I used neither. Very clean bathroom. Room service is a major plus as it offers the best creme brulee! -Say what!
Be prepped to drop a dime- Room service for one very plentiful chicken burger, sweet potato fries, lemonade, & creme brulee was like $27.
Really personable staff, walking distance from Greektown & it's casino, restaurants, pubs, and the people mover. Easily 4 blocks from Comerica Park (which is also awesome).
3 nights came to near $480, but with discounts you can easily get price down. -

I stayed here for a week while in town on business. It was relatively close to the office and a "preferred" provider of my employer, so I went with it.
The advantage of this location is the proximity to good stuff in the central district. Greektown is just a few blocks away as are the casinos and the Lions football stadium. Plenty of bars to keep your entertained as well.
However, I'd say overall the place is pretty overpriced for what it is. My room was large and comfortable, and I loved my bed, but the furniture is standard generic hotel furniture like you'd see at a fairly new Super 8. I had a whirpool in my bathroom that I made use of, which was nice. The walls are that cheapo semigloss textured fiberboard stuff, which I think is unacceptable at the prices they charge.
The other issue I had with this place is that basically nothing is included. They charge extra for everything. For example:
- When I stayed at a JW Marriott a few years ago and needed a razor, I asked at the front desk and they gave me an inexpensive dispozable razor that got me through a couple of days. The Hilton Garden Inn charged me $2 for a junk disposable razor that was better than nothing, I guess.
- They have a nice breakfast buffet each morning (and you can request things made special, like pancakes, omelettes, etc.), but it's not included, it's $10. The only reason I ate there is because it was on my employer's dime.
- You'd think they'd comp at least one of your drinks at the hotel bar when you're staying multiple nights, but nothing doing. The food at the bar was pretty good and the bartender was cool.
Would I stay here without my employer paying for it? No way. The price is way too high for what it is. Is it a terrible place? No, it's just a 2 or possibly 3 star hotel charging 4 star rates (and then charging extra for everything on top of that). -

The staff was pretty nice and the place clean and comfortable.
The "gym" fits 3 people max, with a treadmill, a bike and a small weight rack. The "pool" is smaller than my kitchen! Not sure if the parking is worth the extra $20 (I didn't drive there though). Conveniently located if whatever brings you to Detroit is downtown.
To sum it up, pretty standard for a Hilton. Not luxurious, but nice still. I see that it's classified as a $$$$ but I'd say it's more $$$. -

"Meh" indeed!
We were traveling with our dogs, and found this hotel as accepting of pets (with a $75 fee). We paid $200/night for a junior suite. The room was ample-sized, but not worth the price. The furnishings were out-dated (purple chenile couch and chair?), though they do have flat-screen TVs (not many HD channels, though). Small fridges and microwaves in every room.
The bed was SO uncomfortable!! Very hard yet unsupportive, and it had a sherpa mattress topper, which sucks if you are a hot sleeper like me. The sheets were about 200 tc, and rough like sandpaper. To boot, the air conditioner was completely anemic during a heat wave, and we couldn't cool the room down past 74.
They don't give you a self-park option - it's only valet, which is often inconvenient if they are busy. The restaurants were definitely "meh" - you'd be better off walking to find some food.
The staff was pretty friendly, and I guess we'd stay here again if we were traveling with our dogs, as they're one of the only places downtown that accepts them! -

Location = 5
Bedding = 3
Shower = 2
Elevator = 1
Shared a room with a generous couple of friends over the weekend so I can't rank the hotel on price, but I did touch on 3 areas. The location is phenomenal. We were 2 blocks from Comerica Park / Ford Field, 50 feet from Detroit Pub, 2 blocks from Greektown, and just a few blocks away from numerous other pubs and restaurants.
The bedding was average at best, and only 2 pillows. My girlfriend and I often like to have extra pillows but none were to be found. I don't stay in hotels a ton, but if I were to more often I would definitely look for a Marriott. Their bedding is off the chain.
The shower drain stunk. Not literally, but it wouldn't drain properly. Maybe this isn't true for all rooms, but it was for mine. I was not a big fan of showering and standing in a slowly rising pool of water.
The elevator was a pain in the a$$. Surely a security measure to prevent wild parties and unwanted guests moving throughout the hotel, but the elevator would only operate with your room key. Whichever floor you wanted to visit, you need to put in your room key and select the floor. This would be fine and only a minor inconvenience if it actually worked. For whatever reason it seemed like you could only select one floor at a time instead of selecting all the floors at once. Then there was the issue when the elevator was crowded of passing around keys and trying to get people to get their floor selected. I'm sure it's really easy, and there are simple rules to operating it, but it is just annoying to throw 10 people in a tiny box and then throw some unique element at them...especially (side note) when half of them are drunk hillbillies on their way to see Kid (MF'in) Rock. -

I've stayed here a couple times. I've been lucky that each time has been on the house via my Hilton Honors points. If forking over the money myself, I think it's bit overpriced, but it is the city. The weekend rate was around $200/night + $20 for parking.
The biggest perk to this place is the location. You are literally in the center of the entertainment area of Detroit. 3 blocks in one direction, you are at Comerica Park and Ford Field. 3 blocks in the other direction, you are in Greektown.
The room was clean and organized as expected. The bedding is think is adequate. I might be bias since I called a Hampton Inn, an equivalent hotel, home for over a year for work and got very acquainted with the bedding.
To sum it all up, if you are staying in Detroit, I don't think you can do much better. Maybe the Marriott at the RenCen or one of the casinos would be nicer options, but the location of this property can't be beat. -

Nothing special to see here. We've got comfy rooms, nice Hilton beds, a decent fridge and microwave in each room, and a reasonable price. It's like every Hampton and HGI you've ever stayed in. We do, however, have the newly popular "teensy tiny bathroom without a vent fan" which seems to be all the rage. What blows my mind is that this was obviously a new construction hotel, so why wouldn't it include such things?
There are a couple restaurants on the ground floor, neither of which we were able to sample, since they closed by the time we got back to the room, and we didn't have breakfast here. It's definitely convenient to both Comerica Park and Ford Field, plus our chosen venue, the Fillmore. Slightly annoying, and expensive valet parking, though.
When you get right down to it, this is just your standard Hilton property.Listed in: Hilton Properties, Hotels Without Proper Bathroom…

Clean comfortable newer room in Downtown Detroit, which by the way is not as bad as many people say.
Really like the hotel, had a corner room with an extra window (yay) and a high floor looking over the city.
The exercise room leaves a little to be desired, but there are lots of things to do within walking distance.
The rooms are a little on the small side, but the cleanliness and modern feel more than makes up for it. -

This HGI is pretty new and centrally located in downtown Detroit.
It is only 2 blocks from Ford Field and Comerica Park stadiums, and within walking distance 5 blocks from the Detroit Redwing's hockey arena, Renaissance Center, the Fox Theater, Greektown Casino, Monroe Street Greek Town restaurants, the People Mover, and plenty of restaurants and pubs in the surrounding couple of blocks.
The 10 story building is new construction, and all the furninshing are new and in excellent condition. There is a bar on site, and a restaurant for your breakfast and even room service.
The rooms are great for the business traveller, which include a good working desk with one of the better ergonomic chairs I have sat in, a fridge, microwave, and complimentary hi-speed WiFi!
The staff is friendly and very efficient. There was an incident here with my group of colleagues that was handled promptly, courteously and professionally., to not let it detract from our stay. That incident had nothing to do with the hotel or staff, they just handled it very well as to not let it bother any of their guests.
Although we were attending a trade show and got fantastic room rates, I think even at rack rates this is a good choice.Listed in: Wanugee! Hotels, Wanugee! Detroit

Here's the quick and dirty from a pros/cons perspective:
Pros: Service - everyone from the front desk to the housekeeping staff was awesome - wish they had a property that suited their level of service
Cons: Free internet, but incredibly slow - .63Mb/s down http://www.speedtest.n...
-Bed was not comfortable
-Odd that they spend the time and money on the property (flat screens, Herman Miller chairs.... etc, but the gym is something out of a 1980's Denise Austin video - moronic -

If you have stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn before, you already know what to expect. Clean, cozy rooms with sleep-inducing beds and a generally good overall experience.
We did not eat at the hotel restaurant because the hotel is too close to so many great places. Greektown is literally one block away form the hotel. If the Tigers are in town and playing you can also walk to Comerica Park, it only takes about 5 minutes to get there. Wanna watch an event at Ford Arena, you can get there in 5 minutes too.
The internet is fast and with a little patience, you can even print out your boarding pass. It costs $20 a night to park in the lot, but it's Valet Service and the Valet that helped us was plenty nice.
If you have business in Downtown Detroit, I would say this is a good a pick as any! -

The Hilton Garden Inn is conveniently located Downtown. I was able to check in, get the SMART bus for a shopping trip, return to the hotel, and go out to dinner. The Hard Rock Cafe is within walking distance of the hotel. Hotel Staff was friendly and accommodating. A leaky toilet and flooded bathroom floor were taken care of immediately by Housekeeping. Also, the desk clerk opened the hotel's business center for me on a Sunday night in order to print my airline boarding pass.
I recommend the Hilton Garden Inn Detroit for fans of the Lions and Tigers as well as anyone else who visits the Motor City. -

Review from Joe T.
This hotel can be had for a bargain price via Hotwire & Priceline, which is how I've booked it in the past. It's a great hotel downtown for me and my suburbanite friends when we feel like enjoying a night on the town with cabs as our designated drivers, and want to just crash in the city for cheap. The staff is overall kind of brief but helpful and get the job done. The location is great and accessible to all the sports venues and Greektown (as well as a short drive from other casinos and Windsor). The rooms are accommodating and comfortable. There is a dining establishment on the main floor, but it has limited hours. I have usually had good experiences the few times I have stayed here. Overnight parking has ranged from $5 to $10 to $20 for me. Not really sure why that is or how they figure their calendars, but when it was $20, that certainly didn't rub me the right way. Especially when I had snagged the room for about $50 to begin with!
There was one salty situation that I encountered and had to remedy. I had paid $20 for parking one night I stayed there, and I called in a late checkout the next day and left by 1PM as they told me I could. Lo and behold, my credit card statement had an EXTRA $35 charge on it! This is in addition to having paid for the room AND the $20 parking fee. When I called to inquire and dispute this; the staff told me this was because that Sunday I checked out, the parking lot dubbed as Lions game overflow parking at noon. I clearly explained to them that I stayed there for other leisure purposes the night before, and the only reason I left at 1pm, a tad after noon, was due to the late checkout that I called in.
They tried arguing initially that they don't have time to call everyone in the hotel and say that it becomes Lions parking at noon, and I responded wisely by saying, "Listen, this warning was not posted anywhere prominently, and either way when I called to request a late checkout having nothing to do with the Lions game, the staff member I spoke to could have made me aware of this or made sure that I wasn't charged that bogus Lions parking fee in addition to my overnight hotel patron parking fee. Why would I pay a bogus $35 charge for Lions parking that I didn't intend to use when I wouldn't pay that much to even watch the Lions?"
After making that logical point, she quickly conceded to reverse the $35 bogus fee. So yes, it was taken care of, but the staff should not have let that happen in the first place. Hopefully, this was a fluke, and not indicative of any regular inconsistencies this hotel may have.
Overall, a good hotel that pops up often on Hotwire & Priceline's 3-star tier for bargain buys in the downtown region. At that pricing, and convenient location, along with comfortable rooms - this place is a decent hotel. They are also very kind to late checkouts at 1PM, which guys like me who party hard on Saturday nights can appreciate on a detox Sunday afternoon. Just be cautious that they don't two-time ya on that parkin' fee when ya check out late, ya hear?

The property is nice and serves well as it's purpose. Mine is not to Drink and Drive. When you check in grab 3 things the restaurant guide, city map and a coupon (just ask I got it twice) for comp breakfast in the morning. The hotel is in the middle of everything if you can walk a few blocks. There is also a people mover stop about 4 blocks away across fro Small Plates Tapas Bar and the Detroit Opera House.

This hotel is very nice! They give a government discount for law enforcement as well, which was nice. It is a block away from Ford Field. I personally stayed here for the last Bears game of the season. All of the employees are very helpful. If I ever go to Detroit again I will be staying here. The city itself isnt all that great but the hotel is.
