8 reviews for Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach
Since travel outside of town was looking pretty costly, we decided to stay local and chose the Hilton Garden Inn right on the water. I have heard lots of great things from my friends and family that have stayed there or attended a function in the past so we booked it. Upon arrival, our expectations were far exceeded (I don't think this hotel should be called a "Garden Inn" - it was as nice as the 4-5 star hotels I've stayed at). The staff was awesome - I Really felt like they would have done anything I asked them to do. I ended up asking to speak to the hotel manager to commend the employees who I had encountered and was quick to see where it was all coming from - this guy was like a hospitality machine. I left with such a huge smile and I can't wait to return.
Those of you traveling from out of town, this hotel is in a great location - it is pretty close to all the local attractions but the best thing is that it overlooks the ocean and it's like you are in a private resort. Kids would have a blast here too!
I just had to share my great experience. Have fun!
Beware! Check your "final" bill and compare it with your credit card statement! A nasty surprise for me!
We were in the area for a friend's wedding, so we chose the Hilton because of its proximity. We received our "EZ Checkout" envelope on our door the morning we checked out and were happy with the great deal. Unfortunately, when our credit card statement arrived it turned out that the great deal was not at all a great deal. Sadly we had already spent the savings, so bad on us. The manager blamed a "clerical error" (and I thought that they used computers, silly me) and pretty much told me to pound sand.
Be very careful with this hotel. They seem nice while they're picking your pocket.
Nice hotel. A bit hard to get to without a map or GPS. Great location across the beach but the rooms are a bit small. Staff was amazingly friendly but the cost was much higher than I'd usually want to pay for such a small room. Free cookies in the evening are great but still, the price was more like that for a regular Hilton Hotel room, not a Hilton Garden Inn. Still, not complaining, 'cause the whole hotel was clean and well kept and the staff Hilton Hotel caliber. Great for a beach trip but I think I still prefer the Carlsbad Sheraton for a Legoland trip.
This was a really nice hotel - RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE BEACH! However, as busy as I was during my business trip, I didn't even get to cross the street to bury my feet into the sand! But I digress....
Nice hotel! My room had two queen-sized beds with plenty of room to spare! There was the standard desk / chair, a corner lounge chair with an ottoman, microwave, fridge & flat screen TV. Have I mentioned the ergo-desk chair?! That sucker was NICE! Those chairs usually retail for like $700-$800 - I was impressed. I'd like one for work. ; ) The room also had *FREE* hi-speed internet but let me tell you otherwise! That sh*t was hella slow! The bathroom was big, too!
The folks at the reception desk were friendly and they always had fresh baked cookies available for hotel guests. : )
My only gripe about the hotel? Hard earned dollars went towards the Paris Hilton Party Fund. That b*tch made a ton more money last week! Ugh!

I've never been a motel fan, but the one thing I've always thought was convenient about motels is that you can drive up to your room and unload everything. You don't have to bother to get a bellman, hope you have change for a tip, navigate large/busy lobbies...you get the picture. The worse thing is valeting your car only to find out you forgot something in it that you needed.
I tend to stick with the Hilton Garden Inn line because I know what I'll be getting...a frig, a microwave, a pool, and a parking spot that's pretty darn close to my hotel door. There are back doors to all of these Inns and it's a cinch to get things to and from your car. So predicatability and convenience get this hotel three stars. The fourth star is for some cool little perks that only parents and kids would appreciate. The pool is a nice size and only 3 - 4 feet deep. There's a nice lady that makes the rounds at the pool several times a day with her bucket of popsicles for kids of all ages. Finally, they have free movies on the lawn during warm summer weekends. You just curl up with a blanket and enjoy.
And you know what? Carlsbad is just a nice little town, with a nice laid-back atmosphere...away from the craziness of San Diego and L.A. But yet still close enough.

Stayed at the Hilton during a visit to Legoland (About 15 minutes away).
Very helpful staff at the front desk which offered us free cookies and a stuffed animal for my son.
Room was nice, clean and roomy . The room had a nice flat screen tv and microwave, fridge etc.
For kids it is a nice spot, not only near Legoland but they had movie night outside where they projected Ratatouille onto the side of the building and offered up free popcorn for all.
Overall it was a nice experience

Generally the stay at HGI CB was nice.
Positive aspects: The room was not too small. The bathroom was appropriately sized. The maids cleaned well enough (probably helped by the generous tip). There is a fitness room (which is literally a room with cardio machines and mirrors... people come by and stare at you sometimes...). The business room was actually really great!! Printing was freeee!!
Negative aspects: I went to the fitness room and the door to the bathroom opened and closed on its own... Creepy, much? Oh: another creeper. I was in the business room and the guy next to me was downloading + printing out some rather inappropriate pictures (porn). I wanted to go to the front desk and complain.
Null points: It's a standard hotel. There is an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet but I didn't partake in that.

Ideal beach access with helpful staff. Movies on lawn at night for kids was a highlight of our stay. Buffet breakfast on the patio was very good. Adjustable firmness beds did not meet my expectations. Otherwise a great choice for stopover in Carlsbad. Be advised that the rear of the hotel backs onto train tracks. Request rooms toward front of hotel. Oceanview rooms are booked well in advance. Ask specifically for 3rd floor oceanview for best views.
