5 reviews for Hilton Garden Inn
This Hilton Garden Inn is in a hotel cluster next to a Marriotts Springfield Suites and across from an Embassy Suites. Yes, it is a business person's hotel. All Hilton Garden Inns are, and are basically equivalent to a Courtyard by Marriotts.
But being a mainly business persons' hotel, the decor was a little too
Laura Ashley for me. Lots of Mauve and Garden Green colors in the wallpaper, carpets, etc. The posters on the walls were homey garden porch scenes in the same colors. I was wonddering if the Arcadia Women's Sewing circle had their meetings here. They even use Neutrogena products in the bathroom, so they must be trying to attract females, though I only saw businessmen here.
The place is pretty new, pretty clean, and pretty vanilla. It is across from a Park, and around the corner is Huntington Avenue, a main drag going east-west, and a couple of blocks away is Santa Anita racetrack and road, which connects you to other towns in the San Gabriel Valley, like Rosemead, El Monte, north- south.
The rooms have everything you would expect in a hotel like this, with the bonus of a small fridge and microwave, and 24 hour snacks to purchase. I didn't eat the breakfast, which unlike many popular business hotels, wasn't included and cost $12.95, and probably not much better than the free ones you get at similar brands.
This Hilton Garden Inn cost $111/nt on the weekend in April. But the Hampton Inn in Agoura Hills, which is supposed to be a lesser brand, was $99 for the weekend, had a free breakfast, and was in a more neutral decor and seemed more confortable.
If you like Laura Ashley decor, this is the hotel for you!
A standard HGI that is close to all sorts of businesses/restaurants and what not. Upgraded rooms on the fourth floor - flat screen tvs! Free wi-fi throughout the hotel. If you're a Platinum HH member, you get free breakfast. Here's where this HGI annoyed me. First, you don't have as many options as other HGI I've been to - their hot food station is sorely lacking. On the weekends, they make you order from your waiter, which is fine, but when the place is packed and there is one person taking orders, it is kind of annoying. And the price for breakfast for non-premium members is horrendous. $12.95? Really? If I was paying for breakfast, I would definitely go somewhere else.
Breakfast annoyance aside, I would still stay here again, if only for the perk of being able to walk to The Derby.
I don't know where all the mediocre reviews are coming from, but I liked this place for business travel. The rooms were quiet, spacious, clean, and fresh. The workout room had three treadmills with TV's, and some freeweights. Yes, the breakfast bar is a bit confusing - I think if you forego the eggs and bacon, it's free, but that's not clear. Easy to get to and clean. I'd stay again if I'm in the Arcadia area.
A total Blah.
This hotel is full of business travelers and gives the normal of what you would expect from a hotel like this. I would only stay here if you needed to be in the area and couldn't expense time to travel to at least Pasadena.
There aren't any good restaurants around and of course the hotel has kind of icky food. They have a shop inside which you can buy munchies and candy but that's about it.
The rooms are like any other hilton with ugly beds, a tv and a bathroom. I was in the non smoking section. Rather than smoke, my room smelled like alcohol and old people.
Anyhow, it's so blah that you could probabily find a better place very easily.
Update: According to wanugee N. they have two computers now!
A disappointment. I had a few Hilton experience and my conclusion is, Hilton is only the name and money, period. I would probably give a four star if the name isn't Hilton
Stayed for 3 days and had their breakfast for two mornings. The hallway wasn't pleasant nor was it clean enough to be a Hilton (or perhaps BECAUSE it's Hilton?) The room... hm, nothing particular enough for me to remember- plain, too plain. Has a weird smell. The guests above were probably going wild for them to make some odd noises. Which leads to my next concern regarding sound proof between floors. Their computer room sucks. Small with just one computer. And if I wasn't hallucinating, most of the guests I encounter were of business. The breakfast was plain. Nothing to complain about. After a noisy-above-room night I was surprised that they offer to cook you eggs and pancakes...
