Pros:
-Awesome location a block from 6th (5 -8 block strip backed with bars/live music)
-Great lobby area and looked to have some decent hotel food options if you're into that sort of thing
-really reasonable rate (149 two nights ago)
-Excellent service
-One of the best hotel gyms anywhere: outdoor pool (comes in handy when its 184 degrees out), DBs 5-100, plenty of equipment, bosu, physio balls and plenty of cardio equipment
-UPS store on site
-5 blocks from Jamba Juice
-$21 cab right from airport
-Concierge Lounge has a pretty sweet view of Austin
Cons:
-Internet connection was crap .55 Mb/s down/.25 Mb/s up
-majority of my outlets in the room didn't work
Good GRIEF!
$199/night was a conference rate during UT/OU weekend. Let me get this straight...the one weekend when everyone in Austin FLEES to Dallas, you're trying to say that $199 a night is a BARGAIN??
Let's not forget the $28/day parking fee, or the fact that if you try to use the gym, AS A GUEST, they will charge you $10!!!
Wow. Total ripoff. I went to the Holiday Inn Town Lake and saved a fortune...plus, it's only 5 minutes away from the Hilton's location.

Nice rooms, great pool and spa with easy access to everything downtown. Tasty food in the hotel including sushi
We've pricelined this hotel for about $99 a few times and save $200 or more.
If you're lucky enough to stay on 6th street side, you can hear the music from the clubs until 2am then you hear the people and cars on the street until 230am.
Fantastic hotel for a short Austin trip.
The location can't be beat - you can walk a couple of blocks to get to 6th street, and a few more to the "Warehouse district." Lots of restaurants all within walking distance. (btw, the blocks here are tiny, so totally walkable, weather permitting)
Hotel itself is as expected. EXCELLENT service all around, including random staff you meet on elevators!
There's a bar on the 1st floor, that was pretty busy in the evenings. Obligatory coffee shop and gift shop on the 1st floor. Pool and gym on the 8th floor. Most importantly, FREE wi-fi on the entire 1st floor!
Only drawback is that it's a pricey stay. I mean, seriously, over $200 a night for a hotel in Texas?!
Overall, great experience, but best done on the expense account...

I ended up staying here for a conference. I find it odd that the bathrooms have no real exhaust fan for when you shower, and the rooms are always humid.
My checkin and checkout experiences were great, but the room is just blah. The bed didn't quite fit into the frame on the wall, which I thought was odd.
Stay away from the Tavern restaurant. I had quite possibly the saltiest sandwich in my life.
The conference services and catering were quite nice. Everyone working at our conference was polite and courteous. While I had a great time in Austin, I would probably skip on staying here.

Jeff and Farrah have pretty much said it all...
the location is great
the pool is great
the room was ridiculously large and the bed was so comfy
the gym was very nice
not so-good:
no concierge onsite for most of the week
food was mediocre and a bit pricey
the staff could be quite arrogant at times
also, if you use a debit card instead of a credit card you pay everything up front

This Hilton is fairly new to Austin, and the facilities, amenities and services here are a definitely an upgrade to the other Hilton.
I stayed here with a friend and we shared a ridiculously large room with a magnificent view of downtown and the trails along Lady Bird Lake. The beds were incredibly plush, pillows feathered and fluffy; we had a flat screen tv with all the cable channels, plenty of closet space, sizeable bathroom with products like Crabtree and Evelyn.
The hotel has a in-house boutique, gym, pool (which must've been the "it" spot on Sundays, as I saw a lot of people parking on the street and making their way to the pool), restaurant and lounge, and Starbucks.
The only drawback we had was that our room was allll the way down the hall. Forgetting certain items each day and having to race down the hall was indeed a pain. Another downside was the cost of a bottle water at the Starbucks: $5 ... for a regular bottle. Really? No hurricane, no nuclear meltdown ... just your typical hotel price gouging.
Checking in and out was a breeze, and the valet guys were always sweet. The good thing about paying for overnight valet parking ($25 a night), is that they don't charge your for each time you come and go in the same day. From my experience, most hotels charge you each time you hand over your keys. The complimentary shuttle service, however, was not offered one day because of rain. I really didn't understand the logic in that, $200 a night for a room with two queen-sized beds, our stay was great.

Stayed here for work not too long ago and I really liked the Austin Hilton. Hilton's are very case-by-case and this one is definitely a winner!
Most of those stars would go to their staff as they were all-smiles, eager to assist, and very convivial. Yes, they wanted to be friends with you and I don't think I ever saw one frowning person there. Okay, so it wasn't that extreme but they were all pretty engaging.
My room was great but nothing to write home about. Nevertheless, the remaining stars would go to their In-House Spa, cardio room, free weights room and uncommon outdoor pool. The pool was really cool as it kinda looked like the border of the water overflowed into the cement and you didn't know which one was starting or ending. I guess you just have to see it for yourself.
Also, I must mention that I am pretty partial to Texas and looooooove Texans so they just gave me more reason to appreciate them at this Hilton! I've never met a Texan that wasn't kind and neighborly. Several years ago, I was in Maryland for work and I instantly connected with the Texans there.
True to form, the Austin Hilton staff did not disappoint.

very good location. I was on 21st floor and I could see the entire city every morning I wake up via window and at night, it was so nice to look outside to enjoy all the citylights.
I didn't use any gym facility because I was tired after working all day at a company but I did check how it was. Very well-equipped gym with big pool, new machine and very friendly staff.
Free wifi at the lobby level. There is a coffee shop at the corner of lobby, 'Jive Java', and it has nice couches and magazine rack.
You can sit and relax with coffee-drink and magazine/browsing internet (if you have your own laptop).
Liberty tavern (inside of the hotel) offers breakfast buffet ($18 including tax) and you can get really decent buffet. Egg-station for made-to-order egg-dishes, waffle, pancakes and etc.
Good house-keeping service and the room is spacious and clean (even if it was just standard room, not executive).

If you are looking for a hotel with a comfortable bed with uber soft sheets, un-sucky gym, relaxing pool, friendly staff and a price under $200 per night, look no further than the newer Hilton on 4th. I liked this place from the second I pulled up and the fast and friendly valet peeps welcomed me.
The rooms are clean, it's location allows for low taxi use and high leg use, and the business center and coffee shop allow for a happy, busy and AWAKE Melody. They use my favorite hotel toiletries that are made from Crabtree and Evelyn. The lotion smells amazingly fresh and is perfect for slathering on after you jump out of the shower. Although you may want to just step out of it, instead of jumping. I mean unless you had the BEST SHOWER EVER! Woohoo!!
Try this place out next time you're visiting our state capitol.

I don't think I was awake and in the room for more than 3 minutes at any stretch, but it seemed pretty nice and it was conducive to 4-5 hours of collapse time each night.
The elevator speed swung wildly from "slower than the last 20 minutes at work" to "about to crash through the roof of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory" which was fun for me, but maybe not everybody.
The lobby was spacious, comfortable, and full of WiFi ether.
The nice folks at the desk were super-nice and hooked me up for no particular reason (aside from my charm).
It's walking distance to 6th, the Convention Center, and anywhere else you have business seeing while in Austin.
As a mostly-broke online professional, it was a little annoying to have free wifi in the lobby but pay wifi in the room. Which meant I didn't get to see much of the room that cost quite a bit of money.
There are approximately 87 restaurants here but all I sampled was the bar, which closes early and causes consternation for those people who are enthusiastic about fun.
They're also a bit confused as to whether this is a family hotel or a convention hotel. If it's a convention hotel, deal with people being fun instead of dowdy and stop the Gestapo routine at the elevators. I'm not 17 and my preferred parties are not in hotel rooms mk? Maybe if you'd keep the bar open you wouldn't have crazies in your halls.
Make sure your fun is scheduled for elsewhere and your business/sleep is for here and you're golden.

I stayed here for my trip up to austin for alumni weekend for my fraternity. It was really convenient having the hotel right next to 6th street. I walked home completely trashed not worrying about driving anywhere. We ordered room service one night and it was fast and delicious. I recommend the wings. The room was nice and had a LCD screen. The pillows were soft. The parking garage is really convenient since they allow unlimited entry/exit.

This place had a great location- close to the cycling event we attended. It's a shame they screwed everything up.
We booked our reservation months in advance, but when we came in for check in at 3:30pm, they told us that the type of room we reserved was completely booked. By the way, we called to verify less than a week before the reservation. What the hell? I ended up being stuck in double room with 2 twin beds (with my boyfriend, mind you) when we booked a larger, more expensive room with better features. So we tried to shrug it off and went out for an early dinner. But when we came back, we found out how incompetent the parking staff were because they opened the entire hotel guest section up to the public and the garage was full- forcing us to go across the street and pay even more to park our car that would had to be moved 3 hours later to avoid it being towed after the garage closed for the evening. When he went to move his car back to the hotel garage, it took him nearly 90 minutes to wait for a spot to open. The hotel did nothing to compensate for all of these ridiculous mishaps and they didn't even offer an apology which is what I would expect from inept employees and management. This hotel needs to get their act together.

This hotel is fabulous. It has a great location, being only a couple blocks from the 6th Street nightlife/entertainment district as well as within walking distance of plenty of other attractions in downtown. The staff was great, they worked efficiently and were genuinely interested in making sure we had a pleasant stay. They also had great suggestions for recreation activities and other things to do around town. Though it is a little on the higher end when it comes to price, I would stay here again. Hands down.
It's Texas (ok Austin) so what is "cosmopolitan" either has hay/peanut-shells on the ground or looks like a San Fran or NYC joint from a few years back before it went out of style (witness shark tank bar from Miami 90's days on 4th street). But hey, that's the fun of Tejas, and for the record, people here have manners - way different from CA or NY.
Lobby restaurant is OK, but if you're expecting a place with michelin stars, may I remind you again that you're in Tejas and they think michelin is a tire? And ya don't eats them tires, do ya?
Only complaint is $25 a day for parking. Again, you're in Austin dude, WTF! Valet Park down the st on 4th for $7 and tip the attendant Jared & his crew the difference - better karma.
4 Seasons is nicer, but after 4 martinis (OK, more like 6) do you really want to walk all the way down there?

I have stayed at this location twice now and have been disappointed BOTH times. The first time was for my 27th Bday and the second was for my wedding night. Lets see......
*toilette was clogged w/ a bar of soap.
*ran out of towels
*one of our rooms had bottled water, the other didn't. thats right- I want my water!
*the restaurant didn't have the huge breakfast setup that was advertised to us. we were totally starving the morning after our big day.
ETC
I guess I just expect better service and set up when paying so much. Paris needs to get the fam together for a lil meeting!

The cafe in the lobby is a convenient place to grab some fairly healthy food, if your are at the convention center and need to grab a bite to eat. Cafe seating on one side and the bar and bar seating on the other. A perfect spot to rest or hang for a while.
I just got back from a stay here and enjoyed it immensely. They were great about taking care of us and letting us book the place last minute. There was a bit of juggling since a huge group left just as we were all arriving, but they handled it with patience and a smile--all good things.
One of my main concerns with the check in process was the lack of organization at the front desk. Yes, I know that stanchions would ruin the beautiful decor and facade you have going on here, but when people are just grouping together and ignoring the rest of us who are waiting in line, it just doesn't seem like a good idea to ignore the obvious. Plus, how does it make sense to not allow multiple people's names on the reservations and then not allow me to check in until the reservation maker shows up? I had to leave my stuff for five hours until they showed up! Not cool, Hilton. Not cool.
Regardless of these minor issues at the beginning, they really worked hard to take care of us. The tables were always ready and set up. There was fresh water between each session. They brought hot meals for all the volunteers. They emptied trash bins immediately. Our rooms were impeccable. The beds were comfy. And best of all, the location was great. It was in walking distance from a lot of great places (including the Convention Center), so this made it ideal for our conference.
The decor here is fun and whimsical without being unprofessional. The rooms were surprisingly great for our conference--not the usual freezers that you find. The valet was a bit overpriced ($20/day), but it is better than fighting for a spot on the street.
With all the conferences going on in this hotel, I'm not sure how restful it would be just for a visit. There were four conferences there during our short stay--it is just that popular. As a final salute to this place, let me commend them on having great showers with strong water pressure. There is nothing like a steaming hot shower to help relax you.

I stayed here when I was in Austin for SXSW 2008. The Hilton is pretty nice but given the price, I was expecting more. If you're going to SXSW, this hotel is probably your best option since it is SO close to the convention center. The convention center is right across the street so you won't need a car and you can go back to your room between sessions if you need to. My room was nice and clean but the bed wasn't that great. I usually stay at Starwood properties so I was expecting something similar to the Heavenly Bed. Unfortunately, my mattress at home is way way better than their sorry excuse of a mattress.
Aside from the room rate, be prepared to pay for everything - $25/valet, $10/day for Internet, and $15/entire stay for the gym. I don't mind having to pay for Internet access but their in-room wifi was awful! It was extremely slow and kept dropping. I was a little annoyed that I had to pay for the gym (what is this Las Vegas?) but their gym is really really nice and huge compared to most hotel gyms so I think it was worth it. One thing that is weird about their gym is that it is located within their spa. So you walk in and hear new age serene spa music and then a few seconds later walk into the gym section and hear people huffing and puffing. I think that would annoy me if I was going to the spa expecting a serene experience and instead being faced with sweaty people.
Room service was ok - overpriced, boring/standard hotel food. The room was pretty nice and extremely clean. They also had nicer toiletries than most hotels (although nothing beats the Bliss products at W hotels).
They would have gotten four stars but I had a somewhat crappy check-in experience. I arrived on a Thursday evening after a long day of air travel and travel delays. All I wanted was to get my room quickly, order some room service, and get to bed. There were at least five or six front desk reps and none of them were dealing with any guests. It took them a few minutes before one of them greeted me. I finally get to my room and it turns out that it is right across from the elevator! Uggh, so annoying. I call the front desk and it turns out they have other rooms available. I wait a few minutes later and a bellman comes up with the new room keys. That whole experience was so frustrating. Why give me a crappy room when you've got other ones that are open? Why make my check-in process more complicated than it needs to be? GRRR!!!!

The film festival was going on in Austin this weekend so I had trouble getting a hotel...the Hilton was the only hotel that would actually take me, which made me question is from the start. But when I got to Hilton I realized that the reason there were rooms available is that this hotel is absolutely ginormous!
My plane was a bit delayed (ugh) so I was one of the last people to check in on Thursday night. They give me a choice of a non-smoking room (no thank you) or a handicap room that was "extra large"....obviously I went with the extra large room so I had plenty of room to make a mess with the components of my suitcase.
There are 2 main things I look for in a hotel: a comfortable bed and a nice gym! And this Hilton had both!! I slept like a baby and they had everything I could possibly want in their health club. They do charge $10/day or $15 for the entire stay for use of the health club, but this one is worth paying for.
Would I stay at this hilton again? Probably! I prefer boutique hotels with a little more character, but the amenities and location of this particular Hilton are nice enough to make me a returning customer.

This Hilton is in a great downtown location, a couple of blocks from 6th Ave. The room I stayed in was huge, with all the necessary facilities. However, the A/C in the room was making a lot of mechanical noise, which I found to be the case in other Hiltons that I've stayed at as well.
I stayed here because it was where the conference was held. But normally I wouldn't have stayed here because the cost was quite high. If you have a car I would recommend staying somewhere further and cheaper. Driving and parking in the downtown area is pretty easy anyways.
Overall, a good hotel in a great location. If you really want to be in the downtown area next to 6th ave and don't mind paying for it, I would recommend this place. Otherwise, there are cheaper alternatives within driving distance.

I've been here a few times. Once, a friend threw her bachelorette party here in a suite at the top. It was a nice suite, and two of the groom's weird friends who were also bridesmaids called room service to get shaving cream and a razor. The delivery person didn't act as annoyed as I probably would have been. That said, these aforementioned weirdos didn't make me feel like staying the night. My tipsy self called my oh-so-sweet husband at 2:30 am to come get me. He's nice that way.
Another time, my friend and I needed to catch a cab during SXSW. The concierge was really great in helping us out, even though we weren't staying there. We saw Solange Knowles, Beyonce's sister, while we waited in line. We were sibling-starstruck.
I have another friend whose father is an employee at this hotel, and gets her a suite every year on her birthday for post 6th street passout purposes. The rooms are decently nice but the location is what really makes it great. It's a lovely commute at 2 am.

Stayed here for the week. The rooms where nice, great bedding, tons of pillows.
Room service was pretty good, a little expensive but large quantities.
I had:
Tuna Nicoise - good, but not enough tuna.
6oz. fillet mignon. - very good. was a little rare. i ordered medium rare.
Austin Burger - average but good for the price
Apple Crumble - huge portion!
My only complaint was being charged for internet. 10 bucks a day! and to top it off, it was slow and frequently dropped my connection! It's nearly 2008, internet should be free in hotels, after all they don't charge for cable. At the very least roll the costs in to the room so my employer will be inadvertently paying for it.

Have stayed here before and after the redo -- what I like -- can walk to most places I want to get to from here -- park the car -- spend the weekend downtown -- and head back out of town.
What I don't like -- for a Hilton -- it seems average
People in the bar are nice --
Just doesn't seem Austin enough anymore

This newly-built behemoth right by the Convention Center is nice enough in its corporate stodginess, and the rooms are above standard.
Good place to stay for SXSW if you book 'em in time (months in advance), since rooms are given much fairer rates than normally for festival-goers.
Beware the conference goers! I stayed here one night, and couldn't get an elevator for 45 MINUTES! Elevators were completely packed, and a few of our guests weren't jazzed about going down 24 flights of stairs in high heels (and gave me the look of death when I suggested they change their shoes).
Feeling trapped in a highrise...my stomach churns thinking about it.
The best part of this hotel, next to its location, is the hotel bar. It's big and shiny and sexy and walking in it feels like we've gone from Jr Town to Big City.

If you stay at the Holiday Inn (just down the street from the Hilton) you'll find just as nice a room, even possibly a bit larger (maybe because they have flat screen TVs and there isn't a giant armoire taking up half the room to hide the giant tube TVs...like the Hilton), and you won't have to pay $15/day for parking or $10/day to use their gym. Then again, the Holiday Inn doesn't have a gym (that I know of), valet parking, Finn & Porter, a swanky pool, and the immediate convenience to downtown and the convention center. The choice is yours people.

Nice hotel. Not much more to say. It was Hilton. It pretty much met my expectations of a big hotel .Stayed here during the 2006 SXSW show. My room was clean and the service was good.
If you are headed there for a convention and need to be close to the convention center it doesn't get any closer than this. And it's only a minute walk to the outrageously fun, 6th street. Austin rocks.
Just wanna give "props" to the guys behind the bar. They seem like a decent bunch and even let me and my grrl try Absinthe last nite free o charge. Granted they had no idea what to do with the Absinthe but he winged it pretty well. Add all the nuts you would ever want to eat and you got a very chill kinda place.

I really like this hotel. I stayed here for 2 nights as a getaway from Dallas last winter. My room was gorgeous and the service impeccable. I had the romance package which included a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries. We placed the car in valet stood in NO lines since I am a Hilton Honors member then went straight up to my room. Bags were delivered right away and the bellman courteously opened curtains and gave a run down of the hotel and services. I ordered room service that night for dinner and it was the best room service dinner I ever had. Breakfast in the morning was more room service ( I like to be spoiled). Dinner that night was at Finn and Porter's. Please read my review on that wonderful restaurant. We went down to the lobby bar after and had fancy cocktails that were way too expensive but it was a night for a splurge. My romance package loot wasn't delivered so I called down to inquire and they had messed up. The next day the delivered a bottle of champagne to go and a box full of artisan chocolates in a chocolate cowboy boot. Nice deal!

I would give them no stars if it was an option. After arranging to have a block of rooms charged to a master account, giving the hotel a list of the people staying there, when the guests showed up, the hotel turned them away! No rhyme or reason....all when the city of Austin was pretty much all booked up. Not only that, the hotel has the audacity to charge the account for the rooms! The customer service, the managers on duty were all useless when trying to rectify the situation.

Nice rooms. The beds were super comfortable. Black-out curtains. The bathrooms were okay. Everything felt fairly new. It's a great location to walk to Sixth Street/downtown/restaurants. The other comments about getting nickeled and dimed are right on. The restaurant bar near the lobby serves up great drinks. They might not be cheap, but they taste fabulous. After looking at a lot of competing hotels, I'm confident Hilton Austin was our best bet, despite the high rates during UT graduation weekend.

Overall, a solid 4-star hotel. Much more modern than several other Hilton's I've stayed at recently (the one in midtown NYC comes to mind), the decor was a tasteful combination of modern chic and old school Texas. The room itself was on the small side, but quite comfy, and the bed is one of the better hotel beds I've slept on. Most importantly, the Hilton has a great location -- 2 blocks from party central on 6th Street, and if you're a bit older, the Warehouse District on 4th Street is only a few blocks to the west.

This Hilton beats most Hiltons that I have stayed in for several reasons. First of all, it is new. That is always a plus. The newly constructed building is modern, but they do not forget that they are in Austin, Texas. The lobby has a beautiful slate wall fountain when you walk in the door. The floors have several stone inlays of the Texas star and the bar is comfortable with warm colors and dark wood. The staff is friendly and welcoming at the front desk and there are enough people working so that the wait is not long to check-in. The rooms are clean, sleek, and comfortable and the location is prime. It is one of the best locations in all of downtown. It is perfect for those that want a taste of 6th street, the warehouse district, the convention center, South Congress, the State Capitol or UT campus...a walk to most things and a short drive or bus ride to others. On top of all that, we got our valet parking for free (while it is usually $20/night, they did not bill us and we did not tell :)).
The negatives are that this newly constructed building did not contemplate the noise from 6th street. We heard base in our room until after 2am and you can tell they tried to address this problem by adding another piece of glass to the window. Also, we heard people coming back from the bars in the hallway until about 2:45am. The rooms are not very well insulated from exterior noise in the hallways or outside...and we were on the 21st Floor. So, my suggestion is to either stay out until 2am, drink enough so that the noise won't bother you or request a room facing 4th street.

pretty standard...
what's good: location, service, ammenities
what's bad: very loud (interior and exterior noise) even on the 25th floor, nickel and dime ammenities add up quick (parking=$15, internet=$10, fitness center=$15), very average vanilla hilton (ie, nothing special).

this place is pretty decent. it's a HUGE hotel (over 600 rooms) so there are a lot of cool amenities inside (the spa and gym take up an entire floor, there are 3 restaurants - i think?, huge business center, etc). the beds are pretty nice and the amenities are great and the place feels very clean. cool views of the city. HOWEVER. everything extra here costs money. it's a little ridiculous. the hotel gym will cost you TEN DOLLARS A DAY. lucky for me i have the hilton super special level whatever it's called so it was free (pretty nice too, good views of downtown, with a weight room and a separate cardio room and nice, taken care of equipment). internet also costs ten dollars a day and you can't just pay a flat rate over the amount of time you're there. to receive a fedex package costs money (what!) and the hotel computers in the business center that are usually free cost money per minute here. i ate a sandwich in one of the restaurants in the hotel and it was $12.50. and trust me it wasn't a $12.50 sandwich.
basically this hotel is a pretty sweet deal if you're a business traveler (excepting the no free continental breakfast part), but i wouldn't stay here if i was paying for it on my own, but then again i'm pretty cheap and my favorite part about hotels is milking them for all the free stuff.
