I have been here and I really like the staff and how long they have been in business, but I really did not care for their burgers, regrettably....

The fries were unmemorable, and they let me sample the butter fat milkshake, but it just wasn't my thing (ultra heavy).

I give them mad props for having such successful business and for being such awesome, genuine people.....I just did not feel this place at all......I tried!

Good luck to the staff and everyone who is a fan, though! :)  It has been doing something right for decades, so there is a lot to be said about that.

Every single time I come in here, at least one of the employee's has to tell me about how crappy there day is. Every single time.

But the chili cheese burger is pretty good. Good in an awful way. The chili is runny, hot dog style, grease-filled nasty-licious. I add jalapenos, because I prefer spicy food over anything else.

Last time I came in, the guy working the drive-thru ran over to my bro and I  like we were best friends, and proceeded to tell us that he was extremely hungover. He had gone to a party the night before that had free beer, liquor and weed. Really Hill-Berts employee, really?

This is my GO TO burger place in Austin.  Absolutely the best fast-food style burger I've had so far (notable spots I've not hit: Huts, Counter Cafe).  Here's a few things I like-- they cook these babies over a real flame. You can see it!  It's fire and you can see AND taste it!  They use real cheddar and not some squirted crap.  They have BUTTER FAT milk shakes.  I don't know if that some sort of ingenious marketing thing and they're just normal milkshakes, but either way it works for me. I love the CONCEPT of butter fat.

I must, however, dock them a point for their uninspired french fries.  They're really no better than your average frozen supermarket fries that come in a bag.  That said, I'm told their onion rings (not a fan in general) are rocking.

Drunken eating -- totally tragic but completely necessary. I dont know what I paid... I dont know what I put on the burger... I do know that food was finger licking delicious.  Onion rings, fries, burgers... the calories replacing those that i'd burned off dancing my ass off.  AND they delivered to Dallas Nite Club. Why do I feel like they're going to be the place where everybody knows my name?

I love this place. I may burn in Austinite hell for this one but I prefer it over Top Notch. Okay, the decor isn't as cute (I wonder why they chose brown and yellow as the color scheme, though it sort of adds to the charm) but the burgers are good and the service is excellent.

I've never tried one of their milkshakes but I'm certainly intrigued. I'll be back soon enough though; I think Hill-Berts and I will have a long, happy and fattening relationship.

Hill-Bert's burgers might be a sentimental favorite for some old school Austinites, but for the folks who've been around the block for a burger or two, this one clearly falls short.

I tried this place about 2 weeks after they opened on Burnet Road.  Absolutely nothing sticks out about the burger or the restaurant.  The food here is comparable to McDonald's or Burger King.  I mean it.  It's just not good.

Let's be honest.  It might be an Austin original...but perhaps it's better left to the past than the present.  This place stinks.  Head 1/2 mile in either direction (Phil's Icehouse or Top Notch) for a real burger experience.

I've been a loyal Hill Bert's customer since they opened on N. Lamar many years ago.  I do miss the dilapidated old building, but the friendliness of the staff and owners has not wavered a bit.  They make a point to call me by name and always greet with a smile.  Their cheeseburgers and garden burgers are quite good, but the grilled chicken is pretty awful (sort of mushy and tasteless).  Their fries, as others have pointed out, leave a lot to be desired.  I think if they would add some seasoning it would help.  The onion rings can be outstanding.  Sure wish they allowed refills on drinks.  I'm betting that they could build a bigger customer base if they'd allow refills.

I'm surprised to see how many reviewers are somewhat negative here. I am a fan of this place. The fries are crunchy on the outside, perfectly fluffy on the inside, the burgers (all the way) taste awesome. The staff is friendly, and the owner is often on-site helping chip in. I don't like having to pay 25cents to get a refill on my drink.

Hill-Bert's is reborn! Long live Hill-berts!

Attention P. Terry's: your abominable burgers may have replaced an Austin institution, but your sub-par offerings will never hold a candle to Hill-Bert's.

This is the newest location of an Austin original... and the classic american burger makes a strong showing. Moist, flavorful and most importantly... BIG!

Crispy, salty fries with just the right amount of grease... and delicious milkshakes.

All you moron's standing in line for lame, tiny burgers at P. Terry's take note... if you want a real burger, head to Hill-Bert's.

Hill-Berts falls into the category of  classic Austin burger joints.  Their burgers, fries, and onion rings go toe to toe with other Austin classic burger joints like Hut's, Dan's, Fran's, and Top-Notch.  I don't agree with the last reviewer's comment about this being the same as McDonalds.  Maybe the same apparent size but you can always tell from the fresher taste that it was served at Hill-Berts.  The new location on Burnett is cool and my only complaint is that it is too shiny and new.  If you want a burger the size of your fist then maybe you need to go somewhere else like Mighty Fine (which looks like a costco inside!) or some other ladeedaa new place.

My favorite Austin burgers and their fried chicken sandwich is delightful.  The butter fat milkshakes are perfect - super creamy and not at all ice-y.  If my internet presence disappears, assume bi-weekly butter fat milkshakes did it.  Unfortunately, the french fries are disappointing and taste like the pre-made frozen variety (I prefer boardwalk fries).  Luckily, when dipped in a milkshake and/or added as a condiment to the burger, you can't tell.

I may lose a little street cred, but I call 'em like I see 'em.  My jalapeno 1/4 lb cheeseburger, fully loaded as it comes, rocked.  It hit the spot perfectly, much to my surprise.  Everything was fresh, well seasoned and overall perfectly tasty.  I don't mean to badmouth the other places like MF and Moo-yah's, and maybe it was a fluke of stars aligning, but this is a near perfect burger.  The strawberry shake is where they lost the 5 star rating.  It was super bland and if there hadn't been the strawberry chunks, I would have thought it was vanilla.  And a bland vanilla at that.  They charge a moderately hefty price for the shake, so dammit, it should taste like it.  If only they sold those lemonade shakes MF has... combining those forces would likely unbalance the karmic universe as we know it.  I skipped fries, as I was eating lite (teehee) but from the pictures, because its so easy to tell from pictures, they looked like they may be worth trying.  Again, I may lose some believability points, but I don't care, and will definitely be back for a burger and fries, minus the shake.  If this was a fluke, I'll update.  Ah hell, I'll update either way.  If its a straight forward, fresh and tasty burger you're craving, give this place a try....it ain't bad, not at all.

this place is ok. i think they took over a taco bell. the burgers were nice and big and you can order celery on the side. i was amused by that. if you frequent the burnet scene, give this place a try.
