A great new spot in the West Village - it seems to have it all.  Terrific scotch cocktails, super cozy atmosphere and a delicious menu (veal cheeks!).
And, the staff is really friendly and fun.
Should only get better with a few more weeks of smoothing out the kinks.

We went expecting them to just have drinks and nibbles but they had entrees and dessert, too! We enjoyed almost everything we tried - the veal cheek bread pudding, the mushroom shepherd's pie, the sausage roll, and the salmon. The goat cheese and crab salad were okay. The proprietor was very gracious, welcoming, and gave detailed explanations about everything. We pretty much had him give us a rundown on every beer they serve. We ate in the dining room which was quieter but the bar room seemed full with lively conversation. This was on a Saturday, early evening.

The space at Highlands was so nice that I wanted to love it more than I actually did.  It's great for groups, but the beer selection was mediocre at best, and the service was sort of... well, not good.  We also discovered that they don't have Jack Daniel... what bar that serves liquor doesn't have JD?  Puzzling, and that's all that can be said.  Food to come, but quite frankly, the lack thereof made us split a lot earlier than we would have done otherwise.  Possibly worth a second visit, but for now, only a two-star rating at best.

This place gets a lot of hype so I assume the owner is connected, but it's not worth the hike to get to the village.

First off, there isn't even a sign on the door and the exterior isn't finished, so write down the address if you're going.

Inside, it's small and crowded with too much furniture making the room feel even smaller than it is.  There are seats right up on top of the window and it gets so crowded that you feel like you're going to get squashed. The windows are huge w no coverings, so you're looking out at a bus stop and some parked cars. The night we were there the a/c didn't work so it was hot and stuffy and they left the doors open, every time a bus pulled up it was noisy and you could smell the fumes.

Really there's just no ambiance inside or out and it feels like it was thrown together on a very low budget or they just ran out of money.

The food isn't great and the bar list is limited. The bar itself is small and narrow so the service as others mentioned is slow, at best. It's supposed to be a restaurant but they don't really have the kitchen set up so we couldn't actually order anything.

The stag's heads look like road kill which may end up being fitting as that's how this place is going to end up..I just don't understand why an owner would hype up and then open a place that doesn't even have a sign on door along with no a/c, it's a restaurant w no food. Whatever there are a lot of much better options in the village, we're back to the Spotted Pig.

I'm new to the city and have been looking fairly vigorously for a local bar.  Its difficult to wander around and keep up the pace of finding the next great restaurant in a city where things come and go like flies on a dead carcass.  I want a staple go-to where people are friendly and drinks and food are good.  Basically, I want Cheers, only a higher end version with a few more patrons.  On Friday night, I found it.

The place was packed at around 10.  My friend and I squeezed up to the bar to get a drink and, fortunately for us, a seat.  I flipped through the menu and gazed longingly at the tons of scotch on the shelves behind the bar.  The bartender told me it was a Scottish bar.  Owners and all.  It all came together.  The food, the scotch, the cocktails (many scotch-based).

Service was good and friendly despite the incredible mass of people clamoring toward the bar in the well designed "industrial-quaint" space.  Servers were attractive and incredibly nice throughout the night.  Drinks were reliably good:  Blood & Sand, a Manhattan (stirred) and a Highland Park 12 with a beer (a "Gentlemen's Boilermaker", I was told by the barkeep) and some sort of glorified pig in a blanket to sop it all up (forgot the name of the dish, but it was delicious).  Definitely worth a visit.

Great vibe with a sexy crowd. Wonderful classic cocktails... don't be scared of the blood and sand... it's delicious! The bartender Lee can whip up a nice one. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and they are quite the dynamic trio. There is something grand to say about the incredible energy of the Scottish and Irish.

Don't let the other reviews mislead... they are a new bar. You can never judge anything too quickly or you'll miss out on some great action.

Guinness is on tap... if that's not a good beer...
Jack is for hillbillies... How about some 25yr old Laphroig...

So put on your sexy hiking boots and enjoy one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city in the Highlands.

BAM!

Very nice, not so much a gastropub but a great bar with great food. The place gets ten out of ten for the lighting, design and atmosphere. Best Blood and Sand! Cocktails are really good too. Cute bartenders with even cuter accents. Service not so quick and is really hard to find but overall really well done space and nice fit for 10th street. Great for drink parties.
