This is a super nice market! They have a real sushi man making rolls, a very large cheese/deli selection and great premade foods. The market is kind of like a hybrid of trader joe's and whole foods.
The nice man bagged my goodies and walked me to my car and loaded up for me. He didnt ask or anything, he just took my bags and headed out as I followed behind. I'm from the west coast...at markets I usually get asked by a pimple-faced teenager if I need help to my car, which I always turn down in fear of appearing as a lazy sloth. This was different in a very nice way =).
Hold onto your hats! If you have not been here yet, are you in for a TREAT! I have loved their Manchester location for almost 15 years, even before moving to CT, we used to stop there when visiting my In laws in the next town over.
I was soooo HAPPY when I saw this location in S. Windsor that opened up at Evergreen Walk (which is the high-end 'outlet mall'). (another fave place!) :oP
This location is much bigger than all their other locations, and has even more gourmet, high end items to choose from as well as their regular staple items. This market though is not only awesome to shop, but very easy on the eyes, it is set up in such a way as to attack all your senses at once. And it is AWESOME! Oh, and just because they have a lot of gourmet and international items, does not mean that the prices are sky high. they are very competitive.....I for one don't mind when the quality is so top notch (especially for their prepared foods...YUMMMY!)
This market is deceptively unique...From the outside, it looks like any normal and unassuming market. One expects to walk in and find some dusty shelves, maybe not much to chose from.....(especially in their older locations like in Manchester)..............
BUT, WHOA!!!!!
Will you be surprised! I was floored when i saw the sheer volume of UNIQUE and unusual items...many, many imports and gourmet items you cannot find at any other 'supermarket', even in the 'giant' major chains you cannot find a more thorough import shop....Meats, cheeses, sauces (Oh the SAUCES!) wow, it's stunning. They have such wonderful items, it is always a treat to go here......They also have an amazing Bakery, the veggie/produce aisle is stunning, and well, i just can't say enough good things about it.
I do not even LIVE in S. Windsor, and I have lots of markets to chose from between my house and here (or I could even go to the Glastonbury location of Highland park) but this is the Mack Daddy, heck it's the Mack GRAND-DADDY of them all! (plus I love that it's the newest!)
I ALSO love, love, love....the fact that you can ORDER ONLINE (great for people who are handicapped/disabled like me!) and you or someone else can pick it up....all ready and waiting for you! (now if only we could bring a bagger home to unpack them! lol) j/k...that's what hubby's are for!
Anyway, if you have never been here., then wake up, smell the coffee, crawl out from under your rock, and run to this awesome store! It is worth the ride from wherever...and like I said, they do have other locations available 9check the website i provided!)
Oh, and the employees are always very helpful (which is saying a lot, not many markets can make that claim these days!)
:o) HAPPY SHOPPING!
