I live fifty miles away from this place, but I make a special trip to go down there three or four times each year.  Admittedly, it is out of the way for most people, but it's worth the drive.  If I had written this a few months ago, I believe I would have given it five stars.  However, I went back last week and saw that my favorite item, lamb, had been removed from the menu.  A few other dishes had been added, including pasta, and I get that you have to make occasional changes, but I hate that it was something that I really liked that got the boot.  I had jambalaya linguine, which I really enjoyed.  It was more food than I could eat, and I'm a big guy.  It made a nice lunch the next day, though.  Beer is bottled (Newcastle Brown went great with that pasta) and they have an extensive wine selection.    It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, and it's best to make reservations.

This restaurant is in an absolutely wonderful building and has a lot of atmosphere.  Unfortunately the food is average at best.  The first clue that the food might not be the best is the size of the menu, which is quite large.  Everything from chicken to duck to steaks and a variety of seafood, as well as numerous salad choices.  This may seem like a plus, but the scale of the menu is indicative of bought-in sauces etc.  The first time i ate here, I ordered a steak, which was sort of stringy and not particularly tasty.  The second time I got the chicken madera, which I liked a great deal more than the steak.

Both times, I ordered salads which I found to be unappetizing.  The one with Brie and Apples was covered in a dressing so sweet, I couldn't stomach it.  And the spinach salad with bacon dressing was a greasy mess.

The high point for me was the smashed yukon gold potatoes, which were very tasty.

Overall, I think that its overpriced and the food could be better, but given the choices in the area, you could certainly do worse.

Absolutely delicious from the appetizers, salads, new York strip to dessert. A must eat restaurant in this sleepy little town. Atmosphere was wonderful. Waitress was a little slow but overall great experience!

It is truly an experience to dine here, unfortunately let down by very average food.    3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the location!

    1) The building is legendary.  This used to be Al Capones mountain hideout.  The waitress told me there are escape hatches in the roof and underground tunnels and that Capone and Dilinger had several escapades in this property.

    2) A really nice venue.  Wood floors, classic 1930s decor, very tasteful.   It is a nice venue for either a power dinner with a local Tennessee mafioso, or a romantic date with your wife.

    3) Great service.  The staff are really nice and service is really attentive as it should be in Tennessee.

    4) The disappointment is the food.  While the ingredients are high quality, the recipes are not great.  The fried green tomatoes were the most tasteless I have ever had.  The steak diane sauce tasted odd - so odd that the steak Diane at even Cheesecake factory would be considered better.  The lobster bisque was excellent.   This was the consensus of 3 of the 4 diners in our group.  One of us also tried the fish and found that to be average as well

They should upgrade the menu since the property is too good to be serving average meals.

What a beautiful location.  This restaurant was supposedly a hideout of Al Capone.  The history helps make the ambiance of this amazing looking place.

The portions are enormous.   I started with the french onion soup which was mediocre.  The rosemary pork was well cooked and was tasty.  I also choose the potato medley which was crispy and salty.  Which was a great compliment to the pork.

I was so full half way through that there was no room for dessert, maybe next time.

If you are ever in the area and looking for a beautiful location with tasty food give Al Capone's hideout a try.
