Neighborhoods: Midtown, Fourth WardI was across the street looking for fabrics to sew a coat and decided to check out the Home store.
This place has a little something for everyone - from furniture to light fixtures to fabrics. They have pretty much everything you'd need to decorate a home and even things you never thought you needed! I found miniature replicas of vintage cars (for $50 each I was super close to buying one for my dad). I even came across a freaking wheelbarrow, but it was gorgeous.
A lot of the furniture looks organic yet sleek and modern (check out my pics), which is totally my style. Too bad it was so pricey. Expect to drop a few Gs if you're looking for complete sets.
Even if you're poor like me, you should still check out the place. It's pretty fun to see such unusual pieces. Some of them really are works of art.

I stopped in High Fashion Home on a whim to see what kind of desks they might have and I ended up walking around with mouth hanging wide open for the next 30 minutes as I browsed through their amazing selection of furniture, rugs, bedding, art, lighting, mirrors and FABRICS! I asked one of the sales ladies on the 3rd floor how many bolts of fabrics they have and she said 1,000 bolts per floor (their web site says 10,000 in stock)! She informed me that the 4th floor fabrics were mostly silks. I had no idea they even had a 4th floor!
I fell in love with their display of environmental furniture on the first floor all the beautiful bed frames and dining tables made with Brazilian wood. I'm also a sucker for sofas and arm chairs and if I had all the money in the world I'd have a hard time just picking a few items from their amazing stock of furniture.
But, I have to say it again: I have never seen such an extensive array and diverse selection of fabrics! My parents just bought a new house in Santa Fe and my Mom is going to have to come visit if she's thinking about re-upholstering even ONE chair. I'll break it down by floor.
1. chenille, velvet, suede and sunbrella (an outdoor-type fabric)
2. upholstery and multi-purpose fabric
3. cotton, linen, poly, sheer fabric
4. silk fabric and silk drapes
They didn't end up having a great selection of work desks so I didn't exactly find what I was looking for but I know where to go when I need some new drapes or the perfect fabric to cover my couch!
If you live in Houston (or in Texas for that matter) this place is worth visiting. PLUS, they have a High Fashion Fabric Center across the street for all of your clothing design needs. I'm not even going to go in there until I get my sewing machine up and running!

Lisa is sooo right! This place is huge and great! It's been a while since I've been, I almost forgot it. I bought some nice lamps and framed mirrors for my new house and was surprised at how much they had! Too bad I can't sew, alllll the fabric!@
