An excellent upstate joint to grab some grub, and/or a brew, and/or catch some live music. The place was absolutely packed for a blues jam this week, and the musicians did not disappoint. Everyone was dancing and having a real time!

We've been here for brunch and loved it. My favorite are the garlic/parm wings with GIANT chunks of fresh garlic. The burgers are also A+. The staff is super friendly and the clientele chill - overall, a really nice place to cool your jets after a long day hiking, biking, jogging, canoeing or just laying around.

The best thing about this establishment is the local feel and laid back atmosphere.  Also, if you're into live music, they have a pretty cool blues night on Tuesdays.  Looking for some live and fun entertainment on a quiet Tuesday night in the Rondout Valley area, this isn't a bad place to consider.  Though if you want a nice, quiet dinner....look elsewhere on a Tuesday night as it gets quite loud and rowdy as the band resides in the dining room.

Also, the staff is very friendly and accommodating, which goes a long way.

However, the "dinner" and "food" aspect of this place is average, at best.  I've heard from several people that it is best to avoid the entrees and can say from first hand experience that the new menu item "Grandma's Stuffed Chicken" is very sub-par.  It consisted of a thin piece of chicken cutlet wrapped around some very mushy stuffing.  The very thin piece of chicken was completely over-cooked and dried out. It was almost like eating leather as it was hard and chewy.  It is also possible that this very small piece of stuffed chicken was frozen and merely heated up upon ordering.  The mashed potatoes that it came with also seemed to have been frozen or in the fridge for quiet awhile.  There were chunky and not mashed or fluffy at all, like what happens when you heat up mashed potatoes in the microwave.  The gravy with the chicken and potatoes were ok, but not great.  Further, vegetables did not come with this $15.95 entree and I had to order one as a side.  I had sauteed spinach; this was good.

On a better note, when I sent back the stuffed chicken as it was borderline inedible, I received friendly and accommodating service and did not have to wait too long for my replacement meal to come out of the kitchen.  This was the cajun chicken quesadillas.  These were pretty good, though nothing special.  The only real complaint was that there was not enough chicken in the tortillas and, towards the end, I was overwhelmed with cheese, avocado, salsa, and sour cream.

Seemingly this restaurant is cutting back on ingredients and portion size; to the detriment of most of the food.  Also, entrees really ought to come with a side of vegetables.  Stick with the burgers, soup, salad, or quesadillas.

I would really like to rate the High Falls Cafe at 2.5 and what keeps it afloat on any level is the kind and friendly service, and the atmosphere which reflects the rustic/country feel of the area.
