Twas a rainy Tuesday night. I took a nap in the evening and then woke up to a raging craving for wings. I felt like a crazy pregnant lady. I yelped googled, and called a million places asking for wing specials...I finally hit gold when I found High Dive. 25 cent wings on Tuesday nights plus $3.50 drafts! Score! I called my friend to join me for wings. We entered and the place was PACKED. Luckily we were able to get a table quickly.
The wings here are pretty good, although a bit on the small side. Who cares, they are 25 cents each! Choose from buffalo, bbq, and spicy bbq. The only downside is that they did not come with any celery and carrot sticks, but they did come with ranch. I also tried their chopped salad. I shouldve asked the waitress to leave off the blue cheese bc I think it ruins the taste of any salad, but other than that it was really good. (I love any salad that has bacon and avocado in it!!!)
Service was on point- our server was very smiley :)
I think this is a great neighborhood bar in Ukrainian Village with solid daily specials. I like the red lighting and the artwork on the walls.
Oh yes- highlight of the night -- i met Matt L.O.L!!!! (now Matt "ycakes") L. (until he suffers another identity crisis and changes it again). He looks just like the amateur sketch in his profile pictures. That's how I was able to point him out in the crowd.
Hi Matt!
Stopped in here again this past Sunday to watch the Chargers game again. We started out with the wings, this time we got spicy BBQ. Fantastic. They were very flavorful, and while spicy, not overly hot. Later for dinner, I had the Black and Blue burger. It's a blue cheese burger with spicy Cajun season. It was so good, I didn't add any condiments to the burger.
This bar is a great bar to hang out on to watch an out of market football game, they have the Directv package, and will put on pretty much every game. I'll be out here a lot to watch the Chargers.

After a disappointing first half watching the Bears game from my couch, I realized the only way I… Read more »
I finally tried the wings here on a Sunday. Very good. But I bet they are better when they are $.25. Staropramen = $3 on Sundays. Love. Perfect with football. A basket of cajun fries and a not-too-bad bloody mary capped off my Sunday experience.
Nice service, good specials. Yay for High Dive and wings!
I may go back. In fact, I will indeed probably head back. But, it was just ok.
The bartender (the Seth Rogan-looking one) looked less than thrilled to be working. I had to ask for water. And the food seemed to have taken a long time.
The beer selection seemed extensive. BUt that doesn't really help me too much---I ordered a few cocktails---that seemed a bit watery. Prices were average. Food was actually ok, but overall, I think I expected more from this place.
I'll give it another chance. Perhaps I was there too early??? (10pm on a Saturday?)
This is my favorite bar in the neighborhood. Only beef is the prices. A bit high for me. But the price is totally worth the atmosphere. THE FRIENDLIEST SERVICE around. I'm about to go there now for a bloody.
cheers!
Oh, the Dive. How I love thee.
There was a time when I would come here 5 out of 7 nights a week. Okay, so maybe I had a problem, but I wasn't alone. This became an after work spot for me and my friends, and is pretty much responsible for my current relationship, which I'm rather pleased with.
It is all about the beer. And the music. And the food. And the bartenders.
Once a month they have a different awesome beer of the month for 3.50 or something. Otherwise, their selection is very good. The burgers, omg, even the veggieburger kicks ass (sorry mom, I know you've been reading these, but dammit, they kick ASS). I forgot what night cheapo miniburgers is, but do not review until submitting yourself to a plate full of those. Oh... and cajun tots... my god...
They repeatedly get voted "best jukebox in the city," and that is because the owners LOVE (good) music (think: grizzly bear or shellac). There is not a single band you can surprise them with... they know it all.
So I moved, and I miss them dearly... however, Rocking Horse, their baby in Logan, is a nice substitute... more on that place in an up-and-coming review
This place has become my neighborhood bar. Luckily for me, in addition to being stumbling distance from my apartment, it also has a lot of tasty things on the menu, great specials, and friendly servers and bartenders.
For starters, $.25 wing night cannot be beat. I'm a huge fan of the buffalo wings - with ranch instead of bleu cheese for maximum deliciousness - and their tater tots pretty much NEVER lose their luster for me. Especially the cajun tots. Yum. Their burgers are also good...pretty much everything I've ordered is good, honestly...and the $1 mini burgers on Wednesdays are very addictive. Did I mention they're only $1? Yeah.
However, good/cheap food is not enough to keep me coming back to a place when there are so many options - the more important part is that everyone who works there is always really friendly and approachable, and they seem to dislike Trixies as much as I do. And they have great taste in music. Rock on, High Dive.
Popped in for $.25 wing night. I got 10 buffalo and 10 spicy BBQ. Very unique flavor with them deep frying then putting on grill. I liked the grill taste to them. Buffalo were not saucy the way I like but really good. ANd the spicy BBQ were actually amazing.
Great beers on tap, nice atmosphere, and good music.
Wings. That's why I came here... purely for wings. Ok, I lied a little. There were some people there I wanted to see too, but the promise of wings for 25 cents really helped me make the decision.
I drove since I live WAY far north and didn't want to take a train, and a bus, and wait about 20 minutes for both. Parking wasn't too bad, I was lucky and found a decent spot. A lap around the block though showed that parking on side streets wasn't really an option. Just a heads up for people like me to try to avoid paying for parking on main streets.
So, back to the wings. They're good. There are options of BBQ, Buffalo, and something else that I can't remember. I went with Buffalo. Since I'm a wing snob (having grown up close to Buffalo) I can say that these weren't even close to authentic, but they are damn tasty. I hate when places try to do Buffalo wings and whatever sauce they use has too much vinegar in it. These didn't really have a sauce on then, they were just kinda spicy which was good. I'd order them again.
The drink specials were ok, although I didn't drink since I drove (and it was a Tuesday night and I had to work the next morning). From what I remember they were about $3.50. They had 312 and Stella on tap, both of which I enjoy. Cheap food, good beer, and good people made for quite a fun evening.
The few times I have been here I have experience lackluster service, food that is so salty there is no way we could take more than two bites, obnoxious people, and overpriced drinks.
try harder high dive.
Give me a W
Give me a I
Give me a N
Give me a G
Give me a S
What's that spell?!?!? NO, not WANGS... some people just have a one track mind, you know who you are!!
IT SPELLS WINGS!!!
Tuesdays would be my new favorite night, IF I had a favorite night to begin with.
Located far far away from me is the second best (sorry Andre) wing joint in the city. With 25 cent wings and specials on drinks (hello Stella), you could easily only spend $10 and be a happy camper. The service is pretty good and I dig the music, actually I dig the whole place, it reminds me of Schubas. I was also really excited to hear that they have different flavored tater tots but after tasting the ranch ones, I'm not so sure. I mean they weren't that terrible but I knew if I ate anymore then there would have been an after taste.
Overall I can dig it!! Wingmaster (True story and don't call me that) might make a comeback!

Twenty-five cent wings on Tuesdays...Mmm let's see...
I'm IN!
Yep. Came here on a Tuesday when they apparently have the best deals. I love wings through & through, but let's face it are they good? I would give them 3.5 stars. Why? Well because they only have two different flavors. And the buffalo weren't that tasty, go with the spicy BBQ. Much much better.
The decor was cool. A lot of different people at this place. The service was fast & friendly. Oh yes. Please get an order of the tater tots! The ranch ones are so delightful.
Mama likey $3.50 pints of Alpha King.
Thanks to Andre for inviting me, and for the Chicago bus which meant I got my sorry arse out of my apartment and made it here, because it's almost a door to door service and I am lazy.
No longer. Even if the bus isn't running, I would WALK here for some of those 25c wings. Specifically BBQ. I ordered 4 and had to order another batch later. And I don't even normally like wings. I do like tater tots, however, and I was disappointed. Imagine my rapture when I find out about a bar serving many-flavoured tater tots... this is second only to many flavoured mac n' cheese in terms of food pilgrimages... but lo, all the tater tots sort of tasted the same. Ranch was spicy, Cajun was spicy, there wasn't a discernible difference in flavour. They weren't bad but I was expecting magic and wasn't satisfied. Until the wings came.
However, this might be because I first put in my mouth the burning-fries-of-chilli, which noone appeared to have ordered and may have been put there as a joke. They tasted like dust; dust and FIRE. The only other thing I've ever tasted that also tasted like dust is a jalapeno jelly belly. Gross.
Please repaint the ladies bathroom, it gave me the heeby jeebies.
New aim in life: eat 25 wings, one for each cent (very symbolic) and find the neat little 'c with a cross through' for cent button on my UK keyboard (anyone?).
Anyway, other than all that, splendid company, splendid wings, a cheap glass of good old 312, decent service and a nice atmosphere. And a door to door bus service.
I met a friend here for drinks and a business discussion. I liked it a lot, though I didn't try the food. Bud light was on special, so that was nice. The server was very pleasant and gave us just the right amount of attention. Enough that we didn't run dry, but not so much that she kept interrupting us. Ambiance led itself to a discussion as it wasn't too loud. Good place and I'd come back.
Think bar food can't be delicious? Think again mmmmmkaaaaaay?
I love the appetizers in particular at High Dive, especially since they have 25 cent wing night and buy 2 get one free app night. Also, there are seasonings for the tots and fries! Ranch fries, cajun tots, cajun fries, ranch tots? Yes puhlease! The pretzel plate is the bomb too...but watch out, it's not your mama's pretzel plate. It's actually 3 VERY large pretzel stuffed with cheesy as well as jalapeno deliciousness.
Oh, and the bathroom looks like the raver-version of strawberry shortcake threw up all over it. I approve!
I ate 23 wings last night.
Hello, My name is Destry. And I am a wingaholic.
This place has great wings. I like the way they prepare them with the grilling method. It adds a perfect blend of char and spice to bring out all the flavors of the chicken.
Once I started eating them I couldn't stop. Well I guess I shouldn't lie. I wasn't removed by bouncers or anything. I did stop. When am I going to realize that I don't have to lie to get people to like me? Don't worry I'm not going to cut myself.
The jukebox is pretty good although I really think that most places should switch to the digital jukeboxes already though. That way you get a lot more choices of music and everyone has fun. Unless you hate fun. Get out of my review you fun haters.
The beers are really good and the specials they run on beer's are really good. I had some kind of beer last night, it had a trendy name.,..oh yeah. Dead Guy. It was like 3-4 bucks and quite tasty. More importantly it had alcohol in it. If it didn't that would have sucked. But it didn't so it didn't suck. Because it had alcohol in it. Get it? Because non alcoholic beer sucks and even more so when someone lies and tells you it does.
Paragraphs like that last one are the reasons I don't get anymore ROTD's. But I like to save the glory for the young guns. I had my time in the sun.
They have .25 cent wing night. Guess which one. Pick from this list.

I've been here a few times in the past couple weeks. 2 times for food and once more just for drinks and it was great every time.
The tuna tacos are really really great! Service was good all 3 times. I like the atmosphere.
Good place!
As is Tuesday tradition, a pocket of users from the popular review site Yelp gather at High Dive to down Stella Artois and munch on 25¢ wings. Being new to the Tuesday crew, I walked in at about 7pm just in time for the Cubs game. Right when I walked in, I ran into another friend and chatted for a few minutes before heading to the back to plunker at a booth with an old coworker who now eats at High Dive every Tuesday. Still gimped out from Saturday's twisted ankle, my old coworker was gimping himself sporting a pulled hamstring from a rough round of softball. There is a universality of Chicago summers: someone's going to get hurt!
I had to make my buddy move so I could grab a seat and still be able to see the TVs that were far off in the distance, making another friend unable to see the score because the TV was too far away! From what I saw of the TVs they were nice while the beer was flowing at a $3 or $4 clip. I ordered myself 10 spicy BBQ wings while others munched on sets of 8-20 wings. At some point in the night tater tots materialized on the table with a fine ranch taste to them. While I didn't view High Dive's menu, I was told that the tater tots came in a zillion different flavors and were truly the best tater tots in town. Munching down on some ranch tater tots, I could not disagree with the consensus of the Yelp Elite.
Great service on our last occasion.
I guess the wings were good.
Otherwise, meh. My food was about as good as something as I would make at home. And I don't cook.
Beer selection is good, atmosphere, eh. Average. At least it didn't smell like vomit.
But I didn't visit the bathroom....
I'm going with a 4 star for now.
After my first trip to Bar DeVille, I made my first stop in at High Dive right after. I've read about this bar having the "best Indie juke box" in all of Chicago. I came in with suspicions. I was pleasantly surprised. The most surprising band to find on on the juke list was probably Archers of Loaf. That's an old school indie classic.
Anywho, the juke wasn't on, but the bartenders seemed to have a good mix on their Ipods. Our waitress was nice and on the ball.
My main struggle was with drink selections. A lot of microbrews that I'm don't particularly care for on tap. I ordered a bottle of Trumer, which they were out of at the moment, so I ended up with Makers instead. Don't ask me how that works? It was late.
I did notice some other bottles I would have enjoyed later though. So there is hope. I found this place chill. I liked the concert / album poster decor. The bar just seemed warm and inviting. I find most bars are though at 1:30 on a Wednesday night.
My only concern going forward is what the crowd shapes up to be on a Friday / Saturday. I seem to remember being outside of High Dive trying to hail a cab in the dead of winter with a bunch of douchey guys taking all my cabs.
For now, I'm happy with High Dive and I'd like to venture back soon and maybe unload some cash into that infamous juke box.
At first when the lightly cajunized taters came, I thought how good can they be, it's just fried potato... As soon as the first tater hit my brain I realized fried potato is the mana from heaven. While they're perfect by themselves, these things just might be even more perfect when accompanied by beer.
They have cheap and good craft beers... and samples. I love samples. We had great service despite there being only one server who was also the bartender - super friendly and attentive especially considering she was a one woman show.
We went on 25c wing night and I'm no wuss when it comes to spice, but those spicy BBQ and Buffalo were pretty hot... but they hurt so good. I'll definitely be back for some more punishment.
Stopped by last night, and High Dive is a really solid bar. They had a great Tuesday special .25 cent wings and $3.50 pints. I would go with the Spicy BBQ over the standard Buffalo because the Buffalo style is different they aren't bad but kind of dry and I like my wings saucy.
The inside is nice and decorated with band posters which is cool, and they have huge booths if you were to go with a larger party. Overall, I really liked this place and would go back. Another plus was that the Bartender agreed with me the the new "Kings of Leon" album is terrible. "She was only 17........worst lyrics ever!!!"
Man, a TV in a bar attracts d-bags like the Republican Party attracts adulterous megalomaniacs, don't it?
Which is a shame, really, because once you look past the TVs blaring the wretchedly inevitable Cubs game to the concert posters on the wall, you get the sense that the High Dive was conceived with a very different crowd in mind.*
This is in part why the High Dive gets four stars. But only in part - so let me break it down.
-Table service is fast, friendly, and attentive.
-Ditto service at the bar.
-Bartenders have excellent taste in music.
-Staff have always been incredibly helpful and accommodating when I come here with a group.
-Jukebox ain't so bad, either.
-Pretty sure the owners and I have been at a lot of the same shows over the past 15 years.
-Close to my house.
-Good food and beer specials.
-TATER TOTS OF ALL KINDS.
So while the preponderance of ESPN-addled d-bags knocked this place down immediately to one star, the food and especially the music knocked it back up to three. What earned it the fourth star? Service. Let me say it again: service.
So when I'm in the mood for tater tots and indie rock close to home, the High Dive is where I find myself.
*Or maybe it's the crowd that loves the movie High Fidelity because it's about Chicago and that makes them feel special, but is sad that there was no Dave Matthews Band on the soundtrack?
Alpha King drink special, what's up my new favorite power hour.
Attentive service for our huge group that sprawled a booth and a long table! Michael G. is one popular Birthday Boy! (Happy Birthday, dawg). $3.50 taps of Stella and Dead Guy Ale is a steal. And the taps are nice and clean!
And this just in: BEST JUKEBOX IN THE CITY.
(polling results may be skewed and highly subjective).
Yep. AliveOne and Easy Bar you've been put on notice! Your jukes are great, but High Dive has an incredible mix of new music, classic indie, classic rock, punk, and one metal CD for good measure. I don't need to reference all the bands and try to sound cool, but a jukebox like this made it easy to spend $5! 15 songs didn't even scratch the surface of what I wanted to play!
Too bad it wouldn't let me play 00-10 Dinosaur Jr.'s song "Green Mind" in honor of the birthday guest. That would've been all too cool and necessitated a fifth star. High Dive, I'll climb your ladder anytime! Cannonball!

Tuesday is .25 wing night, and what better place than High Dive to catch early Election results?… Read more »
Two words for you: Ranch Tater-tots.
Ok, perhaps that is three words.... Eh, two-and-a-half.
Who knew that tater-tots came in flavors? Not I, until tonight. Try some - you'll need them to cool down your mouth after eating all of your 25-cent spicy-barbecue wings. That's right - at High Dive you can feast for cheap.
Beyond that, the beer selection was pretty decent (I love when micro brews are on tap) and our waitress was unbelievably friendly. Seriously, I wanted her shift to end so she could pull up a bar stool and hang out with us.
Large tables for you and all your friends, cheap wings, good beer, and friendly service - what more can you ask for on a Tuesday night?
We went in on a Sunday. Good beer selection and good food. The ambiance was good....except for some really really really loud and obnoxious customers in a booth. The food again was ok, except for the hair in my tater tots. I would go again. Things happen (i hope).
As mentioned in other reviews, High Dive is not really a dive at all, it's a somewhat upscale bar for Ukrainian Village. The atmosphere reminded me of Five Star, maybe a little nicer.
It took several minutes for our server to come to the table, the first of what would be several oversights on her part, but she explained that she was new, and it was late and we were hungry. We were feeling pretty easy going by that time, so no worries.
The bar had Three Floyds Pride & Joy on tap, which is a pretty decent beer, though it's no Gumballhead. The food menu looked pretty interesting, and more importantly, the place smelled like BBQ... I don't mean it smelled like BBQ sauce, I mean it smelled like they were smoking meat in the kitchen. I don't know whether that was the case, but I was intrigued.
We ordered our food, and it unfortunately took three trips back to the table to get our order clarified. I ordered the pulled pork, and they were out of it, so I ordered some spicy BBQ chicken wings instead, which were on special for 25 cents each. At that price, I wasn't expecting to be impressed with the wings.
Our food came out and we were amazed. Two friends ordered the ahi tuna club sandwich, and it was so tasty and fresh. My wings were the best I've had in Chicago, perfectly smoky, the BBQ sauce was perfectly spicy (probably too much for most people) and they were cooked just right, tender, but not over done.
For basic bar food (I guess an ahi tuna club is not really basic bar food) I was impressed. The service was attentive after the first few minutes, even though it wasn't perfect, we were willing to forgive. I will definitely be back!
Some others have mentioned that the name is a little misleading and I could see that. This isn't a dive bar but rather a very good neighborhood joint.
The layout of the place is pretty nice with a few big booths that can fit 6 or so comfortably. There are also high tops throughout the bar too to accommodate more people. The bar area is cool as well with a big board above it with their specials posted. The service there has been very good every time I've been and that is saying much as I hang with a decent size group on .25 wing nights!
As for the wings, I've tried their three varieties of buffalo, bbq and spicy bbq. All of them come out tasty so I usually order a few of each ... at .25 cents, you can't go wrong if you order a bit aggressively I suppose. Oh, the tater tots are awesome as I usually go for the Cajun one. The beer specials are pretty good selections and at $3.50 not too bad of a price.
On the downside if there is one, make sure the ATM is always working as well as the jukebox.
So I guess I should come here on other nights but quite frankly I like the group that I hang with on wings night. This place gives out a good vibe which is only enhanced with great company!
High Dive is nothing close to being a dive in any sense of the word even if it is part of their name.
Located on Chicago Avenue in Ukrainian Village, this has a nice long bar and seating for eating in the back. With friendly bartenders that gave some great advice about some other bars in the area, it was a great little place for a few drinks.
Only drinks this time, but food is on my to do list for this nice little Ukrainian "un" dive bar.
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I've got cheap and delicious food in my tummy!
Their wings- Delicious!
Their salads- Savory!
Their supply of board games at the bar- TO DIE FOR!
The drink selection is impressive and they have some really great specials. I really enjoy this bar... it's a sports bar with gumption and tact and I will defo continue to spread the word.
How in the hell did I not know this place existed??!!
I think I have found a new spot to frequent for wings and booze! Our server (I think her name was Elise) was amazing! She was able to accomodate about 8-9 of us. She kept the wings coming and the booze flowing. She moved pretty fast and always had a smile on her face.
The bbq wings were delicious and cheap. Beer was $3.50, which made my wallet happy. I left with a pretty decent buzz from 5 beers and a belly full of good wings. This is really a nice, clean place and they will recieve more of my business.
Decent place, nothing special. I would probably go back if I were in the neighborhood and another person suggested it. Otherwise, no reason to return.
The service was friendly both at the bar and at the table. We happened to mention to the bartender that we were trying to vulture a table, and he had one of the other staff hold one for us when it came available. The guy even turned away another group that was trying to sit down there as we stood up from the bar. Nice touch.
The food was just okay. Southwestern egg rolls were excellent, with perfect balance of flavors and a great sauce to complement, not just accompany. I tried my date's tater tots, which were fried pretty hard and fairly boring. My sandwich was the italian sausage, which did not taste or feel anything like italian sausage: it was bland and too soft. I got the cajun fries with my sandwich--nice seasoning, let's say B. I was debating between four different sandwiches and clearly I made the wrong choice. So if I went back, I could try again and maybe it would be much better.
I thought that the daily specials weren't that great (on any of the days), and the draft beer selection was slim.
I went here for about an hour for Michael G's birthday drinking shenanigans. The corner we had was perfect for a mingling group of 15 or so. Its got a nice bar decor, some plasmas.. I wasn't able to tell if they had it on HD, however.
It's on Uke Village, so you'll get surly hipster waitresses....this place is no exception.
I've come to the conclusion that wings and beer taste better with a touch of sweat. Sweat happens when your armpits cry. Those emo bitches deserve to be reduced to tears though, smelling like that. Good thing there is apparently no A/C at H/D, or none of our body parts would be put in their place.

I still love you High Dive. Don't listen to those silly girls. Read more »
I can't believe this has gone unwritten for so long. I am shameful aren't I? I have gone to wing night plenty enough times to get the experience down, thats for sure and save one misadventure with an awkward booth arrangement, High Dive has always gone out the way to make us welcome and feed us well. Oh and the time Courtney told me to get the "spicy ones" and my mouth was engulfed in a fiery inferno.
Wings are a steal at 25 cents each. Nice and meaty, excellent sauces, quickly prepared. I've tried a few other items too and they were all good, fries were great, burger was great. Staff is patient and sweet and doesn't bat an eye when people come at all different times and order randomly.
They get the fifth star for serving Sugar Free Red Bull and for the cutie waitress hooking me up with a vodka special to go with it. Two cocktails a huge plate of wings=$12. Another big plus is they don't mind when the girls bring in a few baked goods for the gang, they are down with the magical little brownies and cookies and cake like creations.
Oh yeah, and they have the same star stencils in their bathroom I once had in my bathroom. Great minds think alike!
I love their tots! (Actually so much so that I would appreciate people not ordering them in my presence, since I have no will power!)
However, I wish that every time I find a beer I like on tap they would not change it- I appreciate rotating taps but which it was not always my favorite.

This place is great, a different drink and food special everyday of the week. If you want an acceptional mix of great music, great food and great service then this is a place to stop.
High Dive at first glance can look like a cross between a lounge (a few huge booths on one side) and a typical american tavern - - but then you start to realize that it is just different (in a good way). You start to hear the music - -that you will likley never hear outside of you ipod or a live show, you realize that the crowd is quite diverse from rockabilly to Lincoln Parkers and the food is a step above.
I have met some great people at this place and I always look forward to going back.
The bartenders and waitstaff will all take care of you. From the extensive beer menu to cajun tater tots this place is a step above most others.
Dear High Dive.
How you have changed.
From the early days being the only person in the bar on some days to currently not being able to find a damn seat to sit down. You have evolved.
I have always loved your $2 taco Monday nights, $0.25 cent Tuesday wing night and the Wednesday night $1 cheeseburgers. AH YUM!!!
Paul is a rock star, is he in a band? Cause he should be. Ricky is my boy he rocks! I do have a secret, i have a crush on elyse (hope thats how her name is spelled, sorry if its not) I get nervous every time i see her on wing night. Maybe you kids should start a band cause you kids RoCk!!!
