2 reviews for High Country Inn
Staying in Susanville? This and the Super 8 (where I've never stayed) are pretty much your only options, so thank God it's a good hotel. Otherwise, you've got the Best Western Trailside (smelly, old, gross, unacceptable) and a bunch of junkie motels along Main Street (yikes).
The High Country Inn is actually nice. Nothing too special - the hotel is pretty much the same quality as a small-town Ramada. But it's reasonably priced, well-maintained, quiet, and very clean. Free wireless internet. The restaurant next door (the Sage Hen) is good, and the hotel gives you discount coupons (a big breakfast will cost you $3.00 with the coupon). They do not allow smoking or pets. The furnishings and decorating are pretty new and in good shape. Their fitness room actually has working equipment, including two treadmills and an elliptical. You get a microwave and small fridge in the room as well. The staff is responsive and courteous.
I'm totally happy about this hotel. First, I'd suggest that maybe they set aside a few rooms for pet owners. People do travel with their pets, and it's nice to find a decent hotel that accepts pets. And they're just dogs, not gorillas; you're not going to ruin a room just because a dog stays there one night.
Second, if you must keep the the no-pets-no-smoking policy: Okay, really, we get it, no pets and no smoking allowed. Do you really have to have six signs about it in the lobby, and then make the guests initial the warning on the sign-in sheet? I've seen airports with fewer warning signs. You've got a nice hotel; just tone it down a notch.
I had to be in Susanville for work and was clueless about where to stay. I'm so glad I picked this place. Super easy, very clean and actually quite spacious. The restaurant in front was good, reasonable and very easy to get to. I also enjoyed having a safeway, mcdonalds, starbucks and others right across the street. I will definitely stay here again. The price was fairly reasonable-but since work is picking up the tab I didn't think much about it. I talked with others who have been coming up here for years for work-and all were in agreement that this is the only place worth staying.
