Hands down... my favorite restaurant in Dallas. With fantastic service, intimate atmosphere and out of this world food you just can't go wrong.

I highly recommend the crab dip, crab crusted seabass and ice box pie for dessert. It is pretty much life changing, but honestly anything you get at Hibiscus is going to come out perfect and if it doesn't you better believe the staff, including the head chef, will personally make sure it is fixed right away.  Also, check out their impressive wine list for wine for every price range.

I have never had a bad or even mediocre experience here. You get what you pay for and obviously the review this place has shows the quality of dining experience you can expect.

I think this place is lovely....with the exception of not having a reservation on a Saturday night.  That can definitely put a dent in your evening...

Anyfloozie...the food is great.  I think this place can get a little overrated at times, but I've honestly never had a bad meal here.  It's a nice evening out, grab your girlfriends make a reserv and enjoy!  It's also a great date place too...just sayin....really great relaxed but elegant at the same time.

Food...the JB's Fried tempura green beans with this crack dip they serve.  Amazing.  The lump crab cake is divine as well.  Those would prolly be my top two recs for appetizers. Although I have heard the lobster wraps are ridiculous.  Dinner.  5 words. Spicy. Crab. Crusted.  Sea. Bass.  Can't really elaborate, because I don't feel I need to.  Moving on!  The Lobster A'La Orange.  Stop.  Really, you don't need to add that Soy Butter with it....oh ALRIGHT, I'll have it. *faint*

The food basically comes a la carte, so you order your entree and then pick some yummy sides to come to the table to share.  They are known for their mac and cheese and their tempura onion rings (can you tell I like tempura?).  But honestly, they are ALL really good!

Desert...Carmel crème brulee.  Do it!

Overall.  Great service, great food, hostess can be a snot, just ignore it...you're not there to see her, you're there for the servers and the food.  Just enjoy!  Remember to get that reservation....although they do have a swanky bar you can make acquaintances with if you don't have one and want to wait it out...I mean, how bad could that be? Honestly....

This is a great, great restaurant. I really liked the atmosphere; not too fancy, more relaxed than most places this quality.

As far as entrees go, you can't really beat the short rib. The spinach dip might be the best I've ever had and the macaroni is amazing. I'd say the two things you absolutely cannot miss out on are those.

I also tasted the grouper, which was very tender and favorful, and the sea bass which was melt-in-your-mouth soft. All the steaks I saw on the table looked very good and the icebox pie is the painfully delicious icing on the cake.

Well I wanted something special for my 400th review.  And a wonderful Restaurant Week meal at Hibiscus on the same day as my 35th birthday is about as special as they come.

As Jenn said... thank you to Hibiscus and Nick & Sams for restoring my faith in Restaurant Week.

I was the last to arrive of our party of 4 for our dinner.  Jenn and two of my best friends from Baylor... Mike and Sam C.  It was my birthday after all, and since I was born 10 days late, I have never been on time to anything.

We were immediately seated after I arrived and our server was on top of everything.  There was no attitude or any snobbery that others have mentioned witnessing when sitting in the "cheap seats" during Restaurant Week.

Since there was four of us, we were able to order two of the Family Style items on the menu.  The Tempura Green Beans and the Baked Dungeness Crab Dip.  Jenn and Sam ate most of the Green Beans but I did have a couple and they were so good.  Mike and I, the seafood eaters, devoured the Crab Dip.  So creamy with huge chunks of crab meat.

I tried a bite of Mike's Bistro Style Chicken, but since I am still on my legal separation from Chicken, it was good.. but it didn't wow me.  But the WOW was doubled on my Mixed Grill of Petite Prime Tenderloin & Tempura Prawn plate when Jenn quickly passed her Prawn to me.  That was by far the best Tempura Prawn I have EVER had.  It had such a fresh and delicious flavor.  I didn't want it to end.

The Mac and Cheese at Hibiscus lives up to all the hype, and I would go back just for that.  The garlic spinach with the cloves of roasted garlic made me sad for all the years I thought I hated spinach because my mother made that canned crap.  I secretly apologized to the spinach for my disrespect during the first 23 years of my life.

Butterfinger Ice Box Pie and the Classic Chocolate Cake graced our table after we had finished our entrees.  We divided each of the desserts into 4 servings and I think there were some eye rolls after the first couple of bites.

The Chocolate Cake was huge and so rich that I couldn't eat my part of it in one sitting.  I asked for a box to take it home and it was quickly boxed up for me.  I finished it the next day and it was still wonderful.

Thank you Hibiscus for a great birthday dinner and a great experience to review for my 400th Yelp Review.

Dear Hibiscus,

Thank you for living up to the hype, thank you for restoring my faith in restaurant week (last year everywhere I went underwhelmed), thank you also for free valet and finally thank you for a great meal!
Love, Me

So - as you can see we went to hibiscus for RW and it was fabulous. I was early so I started with a great glass of Riesling at the bar. The hostess staff was super nice and seated us as soon as our party was complete - they apologized to me because I kept giving them the wrong name when they were trying to find the reservation. Yup - they are THAT nice. It really was all my fault and I knew it and even said itl but they still aplogized!

Anyway - we were seated and the service was impeccable. Our waitress was great. We started with tempura green beans and the crab dip. The green beans were great - I even dipped in the wasabi aioli and it was a nice compliment to the green bean (not a wasabi fan but it worked). I heard the crab dip was fantastic, but I didn't try it - ew crab pass.

Everyone at our table got the mixed grill except for one brave soul who got the chicken. The mixed grill was great, but since I gave my prawn away (ew seafood) my portion was pretty small (yes I know its my own fault!). I tried the chicken also and it was fantastic so good that next time I may get that. For sides we got the mac and cheese (OH MY GOD - believe the hype - its fabulous) and the garlic spinach which was also really good.

Dessert was not a disappointment. We got the chocolate cake that was about the size of your head and it was great. I was nervous because I've had huge chocolate cake slices that were dry and disappointing, but this was not. It delivered moist chocolate goodness with fudge filling and a cherry sauce perfectly. The other dessert was an ice box pie that was also god, but that cake was divine so the ice box pie was an after thought.

Overall - this was a great dinner. Great good, great service and every staff member we passed was super nice and had a "i hope you enjoyed your meal" or some other pleasantry. It's a nice touch.

Perception is reality to me when it comes to food and food service.  We came here for restaurant week and had reservations set for 7:45 on a Thursday night.  When we arrived, we were told there would be a slight wait.  No worries, we stood off to the side of the entrance engaged in conversation for a good ten minutes.  I saw another couple walk in, then they waited for 3-4 minutes before they got promptly seated at the front of the restaurant.  My gf and I just kinda looked at each other like "hmm, weird" I approached the hostess stand and asked how much longer was our wait.  They said just another minute or so.  We were then told our table was ready and to follow.  We were walked allllll the way to the VERY last table in the very back of the restaurant.  Now when I say very back of the restaurant, I meant it.

We were greeted promptly by our waiter who was cordial and explained the menu available.  We then ordered quickly choosing the crab dip, mac & cheese, scallops, beef/prawn, and ice box pie.  Crab dip was phenomenal.  I enjoyed the home made crackers.  Mac & Cheese was good, but way too rich.  We took the mac & cheese home but it was inedible after reheating, a pool of butter formed underneath it.  Scallops were very good and steak was very good as well.  Dessert did not fail either.  So overall the FOOD was spectacular.

After our main entrees were served, the waiter was basically non existent.  We had a food runner bring our dessert, and the busboy was actually more helpful.  He offered to box up our mac & cheese and filled our water glasses at least 5 times during the meal.  He also cleared plates a couple times.  I ended up tipping the bus boy separately b/c he was the saving grace of my experience there.

I did feel like we got treated differently perhaps b/c of restaurant week or perhaps b/c of some other disparate reason.  I did see another group of restaurant weekers seated at the very back with us.

Would I go back...no.  Food great, service I've had better.

Sis and I hit up Hibiscus for Restaurant Week '09.  We could only get in at 5 p.m. on a Saturday, which is all well and good.  We got there right on time and were promptly seated.  Major snaps to the hostess who, without question, let us sit at the only booth with a good view of the ballgame that was on that night (sis is a die hard sports fan).

Our waitress was a little less giving.  She barely came to the table to check on us the whole night and was a little passive-aggressive when she did.  Mind you, the hostess sat us at a table that was meant for four folks, and the restaurant had just opened, so who knows how that may affected her service shift.

Now, for the RW menu: I chose the roasted chicken, sis grabbed the beef of choice, and then we both selected the salad, mac and cheese, and chocolate cake for the remainder of the meal.  The salad, IMO, was the best part.  The chicken was tender and moist but lacked any real flavor.  I know, I know, it's really hard to season chicken well.  I was also expecting chicken breasts without bones.  I had to dig around for my meat, and, for what we paid for dinner, it really should have been de-boned.  I'm not a big mac and cheese person either so that was only 'meh' though sis loved it.  Finally, the chocolate cake was WAY too rich.  Don't get me wrong, I lurve me some chocolate, but this was over the top in such a way that I left feeling absurdly miserable...and not in the good way.

I know the RW menu tends to not be their usual specialties so I *may* try them out again if asked, but I definitely won't seek it out on my own.

On another note: ladies and gents, check your vehicles before you leave the valet.  I have a lovely streak of black rubber across my drivers-side door now and I NEVER valet, EVER, for that reason.  If you can find a spot on your own, I'd highly recommend it.

Absolutely the best American joint I've ever eaten at.  Will definitely bring the family here.

This was the second restaurant I hit up in RW and I brought four fellas along for this wonderfully joyous thrill ride, all of whom had a blast and didn't regret spending a single penny on this meal (some of em go insane over the thought of spending more than five bucks on non-buffet food).

So lets cut to the chase and tell you about the food:

Fried Green Beans- how the hell did they make green beans taste so damn good?  Oh that's right, they fried em.  But its as if they replace the fryer they use for each batch of these bad boys with a brand new one so it tastes exceptionally fresh.

Crab Dip- how did they make it so creamy but leave out any trace of a buttery taste?  The crab itself was pure, succulent.

Bruschetta- I was never a fan of this stuff, but they had a labana type yogurt spread on the bread that tasted just like the stuff we have at home.  It was a nice touch.

Mac n Cheese- I can still smell that stuff now.  Perfect crust, flavorful cheese, well cooked macaroni.  Beautiful piece of art.  I actually took the leftovers of this home and after microwaving it there was a lot of orange oil that oozed out.  I hope its from the cheese and not a ton of added fat.  It was still the best Mac n Cheese I've had in my life, just don't eat too much without a side of Cardiologist.

Petite Fillet- we always order our steaks well done, and every time we get a filet mignon cooked that way, it comes out chewy and dry.  Somehow, whoever the chef back there is made this thing stay so friggin tender and juicy and cooked it just perfectly.

Prawn- man that's a fat ass shrimp.  And the breading was so clean and bright.

Roasted Chicken- I had a taste from another guy's dish, and it was fabulous.  I don't remember having too many roasted chickens that taste as good as this.

Now the best part...

Chocolate Cake- THE BEST

Ice Box Pie- EVEN BETTER.  Man I love me sum Butterfinger!

Apple Crostada- pretty damn good for a fried fruity delight.

For a supplemental review, refer to Mohammad K's just below.

For that $35 I got more pleasure and excitement than if I had spent it on a shuttle ride to the moon, no doubt.  Five stars!

Wow. Talk about a great way to start of my first Restaurant Week ever. I have been living in Dallas for about 6 year now and I must say that Hibiscus is one of the best Neo-American restaurants to begin with.

Upon arrival we knew this place was going to be a treat. Just the vibrance of the atmosphere was enough for me and my friends to be astounded. The service was really friendly and sat us down as soon as we arrived.

On that note when we sat down it felt like I was falling and could not stop due to how plush the chairs were. They were soft and had such a thick cushion that I felt rather light headed due to the unexpected drop in altitude. Man that felt so good.

Our waiter was great, he took the time to explain to us how the RW menu worked and that since we were an odd number of guests that would work in our favor.

Our table was ordered each of the possible combination of the appetizers (salad, crab dip, and Green Sprouts) all of which should be called Heroin because we could not stop eating them. Once we started there were 10 Hands flying all over the table until there was one lonely Salad Leaf but unfortunately it's time had come 2 seconds later. Having tried Crab for the first time I must say it was amazing, everyone must try that. The Green Bean Sprouts which were fried actually were so good with the sauce they gave that our mouths were all clamoring for more.

But now on to the Entree. Our table ordered 3 Mixed Grills and 2 Chicken Entrees. I must say the Mixed Grill was amazing. The Prawn was fried, yet the batter was such a thin golden brown layer which allowed you to actually taste the Prawn, which by the way was huge. The Steak was AMAZING. We got ours well done and even at that it was so tender and juicy, and not to mention the sauce that they served it with was excellent.

Our sides were 3 orders of Mac-N-Cheese and although I dont know the hype around these, or to what extent it is. I must say that this is definitely the best Mac-N-Cheese in town, Sorry Kraft.

Desert was a great way to cap of the night. The Chocolate cake was huge, the Butter-finger Desert was amazing, and the waiter even threw in there a Apple desert.

I will have to say that this is quite possibly one of the best restaurants in Dallas and RW is a great way to highlight what this place has to offer. I will definitely be stopping by again.

My parents were in town a couple of weeks ago and because my dad and my husband have the same birthday (creepy? yes) we decided to take them to Hibiscus for dinner. We chose Hibiscus because not only is the food fantastic, but because they seat until 11pm. In a city where it seems like most everything shuts down around 10pm, this is a godsend.

We started with the dungeness crab dip, which everyone at the table loved...of course. It had huge chunks of crab, which isn't always true with a crab dip. I considered licking the plate but thought better of it. I now regret that decision. As for entrees, I opted for the Hawaiian Big Eye Tuna which I loved.  Others are the table had the pork chop, ribeye, and halibut. No one did much talking, which generally means the food was fantastic. The portions of the ribeye and pork chop were HUGE, so leftovers were taken home and eaten the following day (and from what I hear, were just as good). For sides we had the mac and cheese and the spinach. Both sides were fantastic and I liked the mac and cheese even more than I did on our last visit.

Service was spectacular throughout the meal. They even brought out a giant piece of cake for my dad and husband after the meal.

The pressed duck blew my mind! I have never had duck this good before and dream of it all the time. The appetizers were good as well, but the baked apple pie wasn't great. Of course I didn't get to eating it until a few hours later on the plane.

Highly recommended.

Last night I discovered my favorite restaurant in Dallas (so far).  Everything about this place is exactly what I expect when I want to have a fabulous dining experience.  First of all, I love the location.... Knox-Henderson... such a charming area with antique shops and other popular restaurants.  The appealing rustic decor would make anyone feel at home.  And the aroma of the various flavors being prepared immediately tingled my appetite.

I'm not a big fan of foo-foo or sweet drinks, so I ordered my usual: grey goose press. But i did get to sip on my friends drinks... they were tasty. We shared the ceviche special and  tuna tartar for starters... which I thought was just ok.  I had the chilean sea bass which was incredibly delicious.  And got to taste the halibut which was also amazing.  We also shared the infamous mac and cheese, which was very good... but all you need is a few bites... because it is super rich.  Finally we shared the caramel crème brûlée... which was also decadent.. so a few bites was perfect.  Not only was the food fabulous, but the service was excellent... super friendly and attentive.

This is definitely a place I would recommend to friends from out of town... because it will definitely leave a memorable taste... and return visit to Dallas.

I really like Hibiscus.  I've had yummy food every time I go, and it's right up the street from my house, so I don't have to deal with parking.
The grilled halibut is probably my favorite entree on the menu.  It's so fresh, perfectly seasoned, and totally yummy.
My date and I started with the tempura green beans, which were good.
The time before my last visit I had the bibb salad, which was AWESOME!!! Definitely a great choice if you're in the mood for something light.
Anyway, back to this meal- I had the halibut and my date had the lemon sole.  His was good, but mine was better.  ;)
We ordered the asparagus and corn as sides (and both were good, especially the corn.  They grill it on the cob and slice it off-yum!)
We also had the mac & cheese b/c my date had never had it, and it IS their "signature" item.  The mac & cheese is a bit too rich for me, but people rave about it, so we had to get it for him to sample.

We were way too full for dessert, and I actually don't think I've ever had dessert at Hibiscus, so I can't recommend anything there.
I think it was around $120 for the two of us, no alcohol, but we did order way more food than what was necessary.

This place is amazing. You open the doors to this place and you'll be amazed and surprised. It has a very nice setting to it, dark yet comfortable. The food far exceeds any expectations. Every single thing that went in my mouth from there was pure enjoyment and amazement. The mac and cheese that many have spoked about is the best mac and cheese in existence. Even after I was full, I saw the dessert and suddenly my stomach opened up. That chocolate cake is beyond belief amazing. I didnt think such a cake existed. I will definitley be heading there again, once my wallet fills up again.

This is a wonderful restaurant. The food is amazing. I would definetly make reservations for this restaurant and use the valet service. When you first look at this restaurant from the outside you may think it is going to be some hole in the wall. Once inside the atmosphere is perfect for a special occasion. The mac and cheese is to die for!

My family has gone two times and each time we have had some negative things happen. First of all, my mother hates to be near the kitchen or the bus service/payment area. All the tables for large groups are near the kitchen/service area. Our chairs were constantly bumped and our dinner has been ruined by waiters congregating at the service area and gossiping loudly. My mother's steak was also not cooked to her liking and not much was done to correct this.  Also, before dinner was served the staff wanted to move our table so that they could fit more chairs around another table near us. Our group of 7 had to get up while they picked our table up full of drinks to move us around. This was not cool.

I would go back to this restaurant only because the manager called the next day to apologize for the behavior of his staff.

Went here on Friday night with 2 friends.

Love the menu here, most of the dishes are very well thought out. Nice dining space, although if you get seated in the front room its rather spare and I suggest waiting for a table in the main room.  Our service was prompt and our waiter was polite and helpful. This place is everything it should be.

We started with salads. My bib salad was off the chizzle. Everything was fresco fresco. My picky friend who doesn't know too much about food was immediately impressed with his lobster bisque. My other friend loved her wedge salad. We ordered fries and brown butter asparagus to accompany our entrees.  I got big eye tuna with a mound of fresh avocado, marinated tomato, lump crabmeat. I am a sucker for such things... My friend had mahi mahi with a creole mustard sauce and the sweet potato accompaniment was fantastic.  My friend's steak was damned delicious.

Expensive place for expensive tastes.  If you want to check out the menu its on their website just google it(prices aren't listed... which is funny to me)  .  Lobster dinner is like 72 bucks. We went with some 13 dollar cab by the glass. Not bad. I have always had good food from this place. My friends who probably didn't set out to spend 200 dollars between the 3 of us actually thanked me for the dinner recommendation. It was well worth it. Definitely worth visiting again and again.  Big fan of this group of restaurants. I would consider a fifth star if I tried more of the menu and had more dinners here.

I've been here twice and tried the ribeye and their salmon, and on neither occasion was I too entirely impressed.  The crabcakes were great and so were the sides, but the entrees left me hanging.  I may have to update my rating once I try a few more of their dishes.  In the meantime, I suggest steering away from the ribeye and salmon because other establishments prepare them better. Restaurant was a bit small and crammed.  Not very quiet either. Service was acceptable.

Wow...what a meal! I was originally going to try Hibiscus for my birthday. However, they are closed on Sunday so went to Nick and Sams. Yesterday, we decided to try it It was great. We started with a crab cake for appetizer. This is a very large crab cake and not too bready. I absolutely loved it. I had the beef short rib, very yummy and no need for a knife. It was huge, I ate about 1/4 of it, which was served with phenomenal mashed potatoes. I also tried the ahi, which was really good if you are a tuna person. I really liked the crab/avocado/mango side that came with it. There was no room for desert and the wines by the glass were great. It's a small selection, a

Over two years ago, my kid sister was in town to visit and one of her SMU buddies took her to dinner here.  She got the idea to give me a gift card for dinner here for my 1st wedding anniversary.  Fast forward two years - AFTER HAVING A BABY - and we finally get to use the gift card!

So, we were the first table of the "evening" ... at 5:30pm!  We explained to both the hostess and our server why we were eating so early, "at $15.00/hour for a babysitter, we try to eat as early and as quickly as possible!"

Am I ever going to get to the restaurant review???  Let me back up...

There is valet parking in front of the restaurant.  This is highly recommended because there is a scarecity of parking in the area.

The restaurant decor is something like that of an old time steak joint, but not the standard "men's steakhouse with all dark woods and old fashioness".

We were warming greeted by our server (there was no one else in the restaurant at this point), who explained the menu thoroughly with suggestions.

My wife has the crab cake, which was the better of the two appetizers.  I had the tuna with chips (our server's recommendation), which was fine but the crab cake was better and different.

My wife's choice of salad - the bibb - was again the winner of our two.   had the tomato and mozarella; but alas it is not tomato season, so they were bit mushy.

I ordered the three-pepper steak, which was delicious.  MY wife has 9 oz filet tenderloin, but I won this "battle".  We shared the mashed potatoes, which were heavenly.

For desert, our favorite was the oreo crust, ice cream pie (no point in telling you about the other one).

The service here was sublime.  I would not hesitate to recommend this place, even though it was my first time.  I know it is VERY popular (not just on Yelp) because it took a few times to get make a reservation.  But definitely worth it...  my wife and I are planning another trip here for her birthday (sans giftcard!)

Hibiscus is definitely our "special occasion" restaurant.  Great ambiance!  If given a choice, I love to sit in the back of the restaurant, which is like a small grotto.

I've never had a bad meal.  The menu changes often, but the sea bass, if offered, is my absolute favorite.  My boyfriend loves the lamb shank and the veal.  They have a wonderfully extensive wine list.  And, as desserts go, the chocolate cake is phenomenal!  (We order one every year for my birthday).

Reservations are definitely needed for dinner seating.  Although, you can get there early to and sit at the back bar without a reservation.  Watch closely or you'll miss it - it's somewhat hidden on Henderson.

Hibiscus is amazing on so many levels.

It has class, everyone is well dressed and the food it to die for!

I lived in Dallas for several years and was a regular at Hibiscus. Then I moved to Austin to and still travel back to Dallas just to eat at this restaurant.

The crab dip is awesome! The mac and cheese is phenomenal! The steaks are cooked the way you choose and the sea bass is fantastic.

I highly recommend Hibiscus. Make reservations well in advance or you won't get in

Not much more can be said of this place that wasn't already said.  Lots of nice cars pulling up to Valet.  My only complaint about this area is the lack of non-valet parking.  That said, food was very very good.  I had the sea bass and wife had the scallops.  We ordered the mac and cheese to share and started with the crab dip.  The dip had a generous portion of crab and in a good way.  Drinks were also excellent.  Strong, but not too strong, with the right balance of sweet.  All-in-all, sooooo gooood.

food, atmosphere, and service were all perfect.

we had the 3 pepper crusted prime ribeye and lobster pan roast. ribeye was perfectly crusty on the outside and done medium. very flavorful and tender. lobster pan roast was rich and delicious. we also had the crabcakes (YUM) and the lobster bisque (ok, i'd skip it), and the haricot verts side (very nice and crunchy).

I can't say anything that hasn't been said.  It's definitely here to stay.  A great steakhouse with a lounge feel, you can wear your mini dress and stilettos to dinner and not be out of place.  You can also wear your stilettos with jeans, but you must wear stilettos.  Nothing like dressing up for dinner!

Food and service don't disappoint, and the staff is as hot as the oven.  Plan to be here a while, this is a place where you order several rounds of drinks before you even look at the menu.  More fun with a group, as this is not an intimate date type place.  It has energy that the old standby steakhouses can't compete with.

By now you know what I'm ordering:  crab cakes, crab dip, steak, lobster bisque, and mac and cheese.  dessert will make you holla...they do it like it oughta be did!

You must try their Mac n Cheese!
It's served on a huge side dish full of fat mac noodles and oozing with real cheddar, pepper, then topped with bread crumbs and parsley and baked until it's crispy at the top.

The ambience and service is top notch!
They serve New American cuisine that is as unpredictable as Texas weather. Get ready to try combos and flavors you've never had before. Do try their Hibiscus Martini. If you love cheese and seafood, I recommend the Crab & Cheese dip to start. Their crispy lobster wraps were okay. Their Ahi tuna is perfection for a Summer dinner. The basil sauce that comes with it is light and refreshing. The halibut special of the day was extremely fresh though lacking in flavor. It was seared and topped with nectarines & red bell pepper. Our server told us all their seafood comes from Boston. For sides, we had mac n cheese (the best part), mashed potatoes that were fluffy and pretty standard, and potato salad that had too much garlic and was made with thumb sized potatoes. My favorite part was the dessert. We had a decadent classic chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. We also tried the white chocolate cheesecake and the caramel creme brulee. Hmm if I could go back I'd only reorder the mac n cheese and dessert and maybe try one of their famous steaks. Service alone deserves 5 stars but entree I tried was just lacking in flavor. Hope the next visit will be better.

I am a fan.  However, whether I'm just getting bored, or they are starting to slip, now when someone says, "Hibiscus", I just say, "ok."  Gone is the visceral excitement with which I used to greet such a request.

The relatively new menu was much needed.  My wife loves and cherishes the sole.  When it was off the menu, she was downright grouchy.  Now, all is well.  The steaks are good.  The hamburger is actually really good.  The sides are almost always outstanding. The one side I don't care for is the mashed potatoes.  Just not good.  The mac and chz might be the best... ever.  Perry's is good, but this stuff is i n c r e d i b l e.

I don't really care for the crab dip they always tout as their best app.  Yet, I seem to be in a very small and quiet minority.   I do enjoy the tempura battered green beans.  Pure nutritional bliss =).

Their bartenders are ready for the quick hook from the hostess and never seem to get too put out when you have to get up quickly for the now-ready table.

Ever since Rudy left, the wine list is largely uninspiring.

I'd go, just enjoy the energy and try not to get lost in the sea of pretty people trying to look even prettier.

I just went to have a drink with friends and was so impressed with such personal service.  Our server was  very familiar with my friends.  He knew they're likes and dislikes and served them accordingly.  The restaurant was warm and inviting. They'll see me again for sure!!!

Hibiscus is definitely one of the best restaurants in Dallas.  It's one of the few places that you TRULY do need a reservation in order to visit.  Even with a reservation, I've waited almost forty five minutes to be seated.  Such is the way of Hibiscus.  Grab a cocktail while you wait, 'cause it's gonna be a fun, delicious night -- I promise.

I've had horrible dates here.  But that's because of the person that I took, not the experience of the restaurant itself.  In fact, my experience dining there was always so awesome, that it kinda made up for the fact that my internet date was about 30 pounds larger than her photos portrayed her, or that  the beautiful woman I'd met the weekend before was actually a psycho fundamentalist Christian to whom I made the mistake of mentioning my political views.  I thought it was REALLY trendy to back Obama!  Man, I learned something that night.

But it wasn't about dating.

It was about ceviche.  And steak.  And how the experience of eating at a fabulous restaurant should be.  It's one of the few expensive places where I don't feel gouged by their high prices because, dammit, it's worth it.  It's the kinda place where you wanna go ahead and order another bottle of that expensive wine.  Sure it'll knock you out until your next paycheck, but you won't be coming back to this place for a while because let's face it, you simply can't afford it!  LET'S DO IT UP!

For starters I highly recommend their crab dip or their ceviche, which changes all the time.  They don't bring you bread at the beginning, which at first annoyed me, but then a light clicked on: "Duh, silly, it's so you can eat more of their awesome food!"

The seafood is fresh and delicately prepared.  The beef and lamb are cooked exactly to your specifications.  They might have the best meat in Dallas.

O M G the lamb.  I love it deep, ruby red in the center - just bordering on purple.  I want to hear it go "baaaaaa."  And they did it.  Without killing me.  And it was so tasty.  Kudos to you, Hibiscus.

Get the mac and cheese -- 2nd best in Dallas (see my review on Hattie's).  The mashed potatoes have the consistency of a warm stick of butter.  So creamy.  So delicious.  If God came back as a potato, you would find him -- gloriously mashed in their holy, righteous mashed potatoes.  I made that comment to the fundamentalist.  I don't think she appreciated the analogy.

All of their sides are served a la carte and are HUGE portions.

Their desserts are equally awesome.  I'm not much of a sweets guy, but the 30-pounds-heavier girl was SUCKING THEM DOWN.  NOM NOM NOM!!  Watch out!  That's my arm, babe!  jk/nr.

I've still got a lot to try, but it's just one of those places that won't let you down...  if you can even get a reservation.

Bottom Line:
Classy, understated and so good.  Impeccable food and service.  Very expensive.  This is a place for special occasions and first dates -- good or bad.  Also -- the very wealthy.

Side note.  I did eventually have a great first date here.  I'm marrying her actually.  Ironically, we spent the entire dinner talking and we never made it past the appetizer.

Hibiscus, welcome to my "Best Of" list!  Five stars!

Hibiscus is a damn fine dining experience from beginning to end.  I felt very comfortable there, which was a pleasant surprise.  To be honest - and my dining companion even told them this - we expected it to be stuffy.  Not. at. all.

We started with the baked dungeness crab dip which was just lovely.  Crabby, cheesy, and delicious.  The crackers were crisp and perfect.  I had the lobster bisque, which was the only part of the meal that I probably would not repeat.  It was good, but not outstanding.

I had the tenderloin which I could have cut with a butter knife.  Delicious, though I should have gotten it cooked medium well rather than medium ( I know, I know!) because it was a tad red for me, but still a fine meaty specimen.  We had the Pt. Reyes blue cheese potatoes which were great.  I wanted to try to try the macaroni and cheese instead, but my friend loathes macaroni and cheese, something I learned about him during this dinner.  Horrors!  Our waiter brought it to me anyway because, "You have to try it!"  I loved that he did this, and I loved the mac and cheese.

At some point during this crazy food fest I had a hibiscus martini.  I think it was somewhere near the beginning.  There was a hibiscus floating in the glass, which was so cute.  Cuteness is really what I go by when ordering a drink.  Oh yeah, it tasted really great too.

Last but not least, we had the chocolate cake which was about as big as my head.  With 2 of us trying our darndest, we barely made a dent in that thing, and the rest of it went home.  It was wonderful chocolate cake, and I know my chocolate cake.  The perfect ending.

Yay, Hibiscus.  You rock.

Get the brick.....just do it....I know it sounds like a lot and believe me it definitely is but you need to quit looking at the fish or the salad...well if youre going to get a salad the best one is the T Boone's prime tenderloin and tomato with blue cheese, balsamic and EVOO. That's a salad! Back to the brick....its an 18oz prime bone in ribeye with roasted garlic butter which reminds me of crack cocaine but without that nasty drip or the coughing that ensues after smoking it....just all the good stuff. When you do finally order the brick make sure you order a side of the mac and cheese.....it is also amazing, and in my opinion the best mac and cheese out there. A good starter is the warm crab dip or the calamari. The service is good and the location rocks because you can walk next door to Victor Tangos or down the block to Candleroom, Vickery Park or Old Monk and have a night cap!

There are a few reasons I love Hibiscus:
-The staff (Herman, love you, the best waiter of all time) Robert, Taylor, etc- all lovely
-Steaks- they're all good...always cooked perfectly to order.  (my way, charred mid-rare)
-Mac and Cheese.  OMG.  Plan on a 16 mile hike to negate the gazillion calories in a 1/4 serving of this side order
-tempura fried green beans.  YUM.
-service.  did I mention Herman??

There is very little consistency in Dallas dining- and let's face it, one day you're good, the next day you're the ugly stepchild.  But hibiscus always delivers.  Just get a reservation and show up!

110% good.  The mac 'n cheese is super cheddary and tasty.  I had a snapper special -- it was very good.  The chocolate cake dessert is ridiculous (huge) but good and good to share for even up to 5 people, it's that big.  3 of us only ate half of it.  My friend said his margarita was excellent too.  Nice atmosphere, good location.  Me likes.

I ate here with some friends a couple weeks ago and would gladly go back.

We started with the fried calamari and the tempura green beans, both were good. I was concerned that it might be too much fried fare to begin with, but that wasn't the case. I continued with the big eye tuna and was pleased with both its quality and preparation. On top of it all the waiter was knowledgeable about their wine selections.

All in all, the food, wine, atmosphere, and service were enjoyable.

I came for my birthday, which was on the 31, but went last night for dinner.
Yes, the ambiance was great: brick walls, dim lights, hard wooden tables, etc.
The food was great, but not out of this world.
We shared calamari and I had better at Sevy's.
I had my straight up 9oz beef tenderloin and it was delicious, but not melt in your mouth good.
I tried my sister's sea bass and that was great. Fabulous actually.
Dessert we had the raspberry cheesecake with ginger snaps and that was fine too but again, not wonderful.
Overall, I had a great dining experience b/c I was with the two people I love most (my sister and husband) and the food and service was great; but not perfect. Or at least perfect enough for a 5 star review.
Oh and this is the First place I've been to where they didn't serve bread, which was good b/c that's just carbs adding to my body.

My first review of Hibiscus was written long ago when I first joined yelp. Since I just went back last night and since I am now way more loquacious, it is time for an update. Plus I only gave it 4 stars last time because I hadn't got my mental star system down yet. This place is a SOLID 5 stars from me because I never turn down a meal here and find myself repeat-visiting all the time!

The atmosphere is kind of a swanky cool. You could be dressed up in formal wear or you could be dressed in jeans and a sassy shirt. Either way you are going to fit in. The music selection is kind of random but still fun (heard last night: Don't stop till you get enough...OWWW!)

Every meal I have here starts with the crab dip. Crabby, gooey, and delicious. We also had the fried green beans and I eat them with that mayo stuff they serve it with even though I don't like the white creamy stuff (how many times do I have to reiterate that? hehe). Then I always order the bungalow salad. We usually split it between two people because it is huge. We did that last night and another diner got the full salad and all of ours were equally as much, so maybe they just say they split it and don't? Anyway, this is PHENOMENAL salad. I almost licked the bowl clean. It has blue cheese, tomatoes, avocado, candied pecans, and one of the best foods on the earth: apple-smoked bacon. Since I had already eaten a very large man's daily allotment of fat and calories I opted for the halibut. It was fresh and delicious. But the real reason I got the lighter entree was so I could eat super-human sized amounts of the mac and cheese. THIS is my fave mac and cheese in Dallas people! There's no onions/ham/kitchen sink thrown in there, just cheese, cheese, cheese. Baked with bread crumbs on top so it is super crispy. I could wallow in a trough of this if given the opportunity. Honestly, it is damn near orgasmic. We also tried the sweet potatoes and those were pretty solidly awesome too. After eating all that, we passed on dessert, but when I do get dessert here the chocolate cake is the best.

As for drinks, which are an important part of any restaurant, they have a few specialty drinks like the one that comes with a hibiscus in the glass and some drink with watermelon chunks in it. Get crazy and order something festive! They also have a pretty good wine list - by the glass and by the bottle.

The service is generally impeccable. And last night I noticed that I recognized almost all the waiters and waitresses from my many visits there over the past couple of years. This is sometimes unusual for a restaurant, so it must mean that they like their job and the restaurant treats them right. Plus they do little things, like give you the black napkin if you are wearing dark pants, fix your coat on the back of your chair, and I even saw the host walking people to their table and he was carrying the Christmas present that the people had brought for their friends. Classy!

People watching alert: we saw a chick that, at first glance, appeared to be Jessica Simpson. We went to the bathroom where she was, but when she came out it turns out she was just a chick that had hair and body that was very similar to Jessica's.

Overall, this is the place I like to go for special occasions or just because I feel like blowing some cash on a great dinner. And because I want to eat the mac and cheese until I pop.

Sublime.

What a fantastic experience we had here last night.  The service was just amazing, our waiter was so knowledgeable, didn't try to oversell anything, and hooked us up with a perfect wine for our table.

We started out with the Baked Dungeonness Crab Dip and the Beef Tenderloin Potstickers.  Both were fantastic, but the dip really stood out.  It was rich and creamy with tons of crab.  The potsickers were an off-menu item, so you'll have to ask your server for them when you go.

My brother looked like he was going to start crying when he took his first taste of the Lobster Bisque.  I tried it, and would recommend sharing it with others - it's extremely rich but full of buttery lobstery goodness.  I had the "Brick", which is a bone in strip steak, rated in the Observer as the best steak in Dallas for good reason.  It was as good as my Bone-In Filet at Mastros in Beverly Hills.  My husband had the short rib, which is a little on the fatty side, but the flavor was intense and the meat was falling off the bone.  My brother had the rack of lamb.  Not a word was spoken as he ate it.  Seriously, I thought he was going to go into a Food Coma.  My father-in-law had the Veal Milanese and said it was the best he's ever had.

We got the spinach with roasted garlic and whipped sweet potatoes as our sides...and the mac and cheese.  We have so many leftovers, it's ridiculous.  It was my birthday, and the Chef and I have mutual friends, so he sent over the Sour Cream Apple Pie with Lavender Vanilla Ice Cream, The Chocolate Cake, and Caramel Banana Split for dessert.  It was obscene.  The lavender ice cream was beautiful.  In color and taste.  Possibly the most lovely flavor I've ever tasted.

The decor is great, very laid back for this type of place in Dallas.  People were in shorts and flips, some in suits and dresses.  The lighting is great, there is just a great vibe here.  Service A+.  I'm coming back.  Often.

I thought I was in LA, given the hip scene and hard-to-find parking. Very trendy cool food. It's notable for its grill; however, everyone at my table ordered fish. Pecan crusted mahi mahi, seared scallops, etc. BIG portions. But everything here was pretty darn good. I would go back.

Wine recommendation from the bar was excellent.

Like I said, parking is rare and I actually fell while walking into the restaurant. Two big bruises on both knees. The sidewalk is falling apart and my shoe got stuck and I came down hard. Be careful.

The macaroni and cheese is the stuff dreams are made of.  Seriously.

My company hosted our holiday party here in 2006 and it was unbelievable.  I think I had steak or chicken or something.  Not really sure because all I could focus on was the dreamy macaroni.

The place isn't cheap - that's for sure, but the portions are good size, the service is excellent and there's a great bar.
