All of the food tasted great, but my scallops still had connectors and the phantom bread never appeared.
Hard to add to the other reviews. Hubby and I were so involved with our own conversation the staff could have been aloof, but we were just glad to have a quiet corner alone :-).
Such a nice place in such an awkward location. HG has a nice bar and interesting seating areas in the bar. Their wine list is great, with a few special selections at good pricing. They also do half-price bottles on Wednesdays (subject to change of course).
The dining area is neat, broken up like a maze, so it's very intimate and not too loud. Good for a couple or for bringing along some friends. The menu always has several interesting Italian-inspired dishes that use as much in the way of local ingredients as they can.
I have taken several other couples here for their first visit and all have gone back since, so all in all a fine place to eat. Get a reservation if you plan to show up after 5:30ish.
Good food! I always thought this place was in a strange spot in a strip area; I can picture it downtown. Such a good food experience deserves a nice walk afterwards.
My fiancee and I went for brunch on Valentine's Day. There was one other couple in the place. Thus, service was prompt. Though they were very busy, getting ready for all the people expected that night. We had some standard breakfast. The highlight for me: the Puglaese bread. Portions were good size, and they offer some inexpensive things as well like breakfast burritos, if you are into that sort of thing. Drip coffee was good as well.

We did not stay long. I am sure, we will go back one night for happy hour and music.
HAPPY HOUR IS THE BOMB!
We showed up at 4:30 (which is really early for us) and had a seat in the lounge. The waitress was pleasant and helpful. We ordered 3 appetizers and 5 drinks during Happy Hour and our bill was under $50 with the tip! We were amazed!
the Kobe mini burgers are great, and the fries are awesome. can't remember what else we ate, but it was all great!
Wow, absolutely delicious. I came here with my mom one weekend and it was very empty. The service was great as well as the dish I ordered: creole salmon and prawns. Actually, that dish was more than great, it was absolutely fantastic. A bit pricey, but well worth it.
Ordered:
Shingles Smoked Salmon (too salty)
Top Sirloin (very tender, not dry)
Seafood Special (lots of leftovers)
I got the $50 gift certificate for $25 and I was excited to try to this place. I saw the menu online so I already knew what I wanted. Arrived hungry at 9pm (30mins before the kitchen closed). By the time the food came, I had already over stuffed myself with bread (I was starving). I was really surprised by how fresh and hot the food was. Maybe I've gotten used to the prepackaged food service foods that are often served at restaurants (sad.. I know). I didn't get to try the desserts (I wanted to) but it was late and I was ready to get out of there. The decor is nice and cozy, a little brighter then I am used to. The live band is awesome! The bathroom is nice.. I was tempted to steal the iron chair. Overall, I want to give three and half star for the wait (one and half hour) and the service (I was dying of thirst!) but I'll round up because the food is so worth the wait!!
We brought some friends in for dinner on Saturday night. I had the sausage and chicken pasta special. It was just ok. Wish I would have gone back to the stuft chicken. The bread was good again, even though we had to ask for it. Overall the food is strong but again I wasnt thrilled with the service. Nothing major, but they just seem ummm... how do I put this???..... Un concerned. Yeah, thats it. Un concerened, almost like they are doing you a favor by serving you.

This place is fantastic! The food is great then after a nice meal you head into the bar for some live music and tentative wait staff. It is my favorite place to go by far!!! Close to home, great food love it!
This place had great food, a nice atmosphere (though very crowded when we went for dinner), and friendly service. I know it's rated as casual, but it actually was fairly dressy when we went in. Maybe that's only true for dinner? If you're looking for something a little more classy in the Puyallup/Sumner area, this is a great place to go.
If you're anywhere in the South End, RUN...don't walk to this wonderful restaurant. Went there for the first time tonight. The food here was some of the most flavorful and delicious that I've had in AGES.
We started with the calamari, which came in a chili creole cream sauce. Bonus points for the fact that the calamari was not fried and the fact that the sauce was so tasty.
I ordered the Mediterranean Linguine with Scallops and my friend ordered the nightly special--a ravioli with prawns, scallops, and ahi. Again, DIVINE.
For dessert, we split a piece of the Cheese Brulee. It's a slice of amazingly light cheesecake with a creme brulee topping. PERFECTION other than the fact that it came with a couple of dollops of Cool Whip. Real whipped creme would have been much better.
The only reason I'm not giving this restaurant 5 stars is that the service was a little slow (which our server apologized for profusely) and the above mentioned Cool Whip on our otherwise perfect piece of cheesecake. Great atmosphere and decor. Don't let the fact that it's next door to the Daffodil Bowl scare you. I plan on returning many, many times in the future!
Probably the best kept secret in Puyallup/Sumner area. Great atmosphere and a restaurant that serves both Earthquake AND 7 Deadly Zins wines. Nuff said.
The food is wonderful. Check out half price wine nights!! :)
Mother's Day 2009 - huge crowds but the staff managed to stay attentive, friendly, and calm. We had a reservation for 10 and had to wait almost 1/2 hour for our table but the manager /owner compensated us with a free round of drinks. The food was delicious, especially the manila clams, prawns, chicken and french toast. The only drawback was the buffet was frequently empty of the more popular dishes until they could be replenished, and out of some dishes within hours one waitperson said. The cooks got creative and started cooking up scrambled eggs and bacon to replace the quiches and crabcakes. I think we would go back for a quieter dinner and try some of the recommended entrees and wines one evening. Nice place!
The Hungry Goose has the best sandwiches and fantastic quiche! They used to have a cute little shop in there but it's gone now. :( Their lunches are spectacular! I know I am over-enthusiastic but this place is really that great! Awesome date location.
The HG rocks my socks every time I go! The food is amazing Italian fare and their wine selection is perfect for someone who wants to sample a little of everything. There's a nice TV for game night and the people are nice as well. If you're in Sumner, hit 'em up!
this small italian bistro is a great place to enjoy a night for many reasons...shall i begin. along with some of the best italian food around, the HG bistro is know for a superb wine collection and a full service bar. live music five nights a week ranging from jazz to acoustic folk will entertain you while you glance up from your significant other
to catch a glimpse of the game on one of their large plasma
screens. the relaxing atmosphere and friendly wait staff will treat you like royalty even thought the price will not cost a crown jewel.
This was my favorite in Puyallup before the management changed a few years back. They took off most of the already few vegetarian options on the menu, and prices have gone up since as well. I'm sure it's good enough food, but probably not nearly as good as it used to be, and now it's pretty much useless to me, anyway. Lame......
