Heyday Cafe is one of the little joys of living in Placerville CA. Gigi and I were there the day they opened and have returned many many times over the years for lunch & dinner.

The food is always excellent, the service is friendly and prompt, the beer/wine selection is amazing for the small space in which they operate. And the staff always treats us like family. We couldn't ask for more!

Since our only complaint is that we can't get in occasionally (we don't do lines!), we just ask the "flat-landers" and Bay Area food/wine snobs to go away!

    All the best!

I've been here a few times and It is a bit pricey for me as a poor college student but it is definitely worth it! One of my favorite places to eat downtown for sure.

The service is always good and the food is excellent! From the Heirloom Gazpacho to the Salads and wraps and the pizza, I love it all! Fresh ingredients and just a hint of our local charm.

Have a nice glass of wine or beer with your meal to round things out.

This is a place that never fails! I tried the "special" that was okay, but I'll stick with the regular menu next time... Still a winner in my book as I will keep coming back. I almost don't want to yelp because this tiny place a mild secret...

This is a review for dinner only.  I'm still a fan for lunch.  Dinner...not so much.  We had dinner last night and it was...average.  Actually, our food was overpriced and bland.  I had the chicken.  When I pay over $20 for chicken, I expect something pretty great.  I could have done better at home.  My husband had the flat iron steak and was not impressed either.  No bread..ok that's cool.  No salad..ok, since you are expecting the entree to be worth the money.  So, it's a disappointment when the entree  arrives and it's nothing worth coming out for.  Service was fine.  We won't be back for dinner, but you haven't lost us as lunch customers.

While doing some Christmas shopping in downtown Placerville my husband and I chose the Heydey at random and are so glad we did!

The cajun chicken panini and Heydey salad were excellent, but it's the roasted red pepper soup we're still talking about.  It's set a very high bar for all future soups.

Our waiter was personable and the decor attractive (love the skinny wood floorboards and exposed old brick), but did I mention their roasted red pepper soup?

This place was great. Our waiter was an excellent host, very knowledgeable about the building/history/food. (Very nice historical building) We had the salmon salad with cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, avocados, cucumbers, and a very nice dressing, all was VERY fresh. We also had a pizza with pesto, sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts, def one of the best pizza's I've had. GREAT PLACE! LOVED IT

Great food and service.  This place was packed on a Friday lunchtime.  So much so people had actually made bookings.  Amazing considering the fact its not exactly located in a busy metropolis.  All that pointed to great food, and our instincts were right.  Really personal service too.

You can definitely tell that the people making and serving the food really care about what they're producing.

What a beautiful little surprise in Placerville!  My friends and I had just come from a nice weekend backpacking in the desolation wilderness and were very, very hungry.  After a previous encounter with the sub-par Z-Pie, I was not so excited about the Placerville lunch stop.  However, Heyday Cafe delivered.

The heirloom tomato gazpacho was probably the best gazpacho I've ever had.  It had tang, garlic, and just a bit of heat, and it was just the side dish.  The mango chutney chicken panini was perfectly tasty.  Unfortunately the chutney was hard to keep on the sandwich, but the chicken was perfectly done.

Service was very friendly and well-timed.  The ambiance is nice and the place was clean and bright.  In SF, I'd probably give this place 4 stars since there's a lot of tough competition, but here in Placerville, it's outshined the rest for sure.  The wine and beers looked interesting, but we were dehydrated from the hike and stuck to water.

    To go order.
-Tomato Bisque: delicious. not too heavy, plenty of flavor.

-Salmon BLT: AMAZING. Flavors are spot on, fresh, tasty fish, I could tell that it was cooked immediatley before being served to me. Perfection.

-Potato Salad: the reason that this only got 4 stars. Kinda dry. Good, but not great.

Terrific little place in Placerville with great atmosphere and excellent food.  The service is very friendly and knowledgeable.  We visited after a hike in the Desolation Wilderness this past weekend with four adults and four little kids.  We were seated and served promptly.

My wife said upon tasting her lobster bisque "I think this is the most delicious thing I have ever put in my mouth."  She uttered the exact same phrase after trying her mango chutney chicken panini.  I won't go that far, but they were really terrific.  Everyone left satisfied and happy.

The only downside, and this is minor and easily corrected, was the bathroom.  I see below that I'm not the only one to experience the phantom patron occupying the bathroom.  I guess sometimes folks close the bathroom door upon exiting with it locked, so the next person that happens along winds up waiting interminably before either giving up or alerting the staff thinking someone may have croaked on the can inside.  They just need to install the right type of lock on the door and this will take care of itself.

Overall I think the Heyday is wonderful place to grab a bite and drink.  I'm looking forward to our next visit.

    Located in Downtown Placerville.
Added bonus = the parking garage behind it.. Two free hours!

    Casual Cafe.
Small and busy. It's pretty crammed-- tables and a counter/bar space.

The bathroom.. oh, the bathroom.. Another lady and myself were waiting to use it. She was there first and said someone was in it so I waited with her.. then time went by and you know when someone has been in the bathroom for a while, you don't want to be next in there.. so we both went back to our table. Come to find out, one of the staff said no one was probably in there and that the door gets locked sometimes with no one in there. (Great!)

Everything, otherwise, was pretty great. Service was great. Food was great. Food was fresh. We went for lunch and they offered soups, salads, paninis, pizzas, and desserts.. Beer and Wine.

We tried their Turkey and Cranberry Panini and it tasted like Thanksgiving in a sandwich. We had that with Potato Salad and it's probably one of my favorite potato salads I've ever had.

We also had a small pizza solely because I thought dungeness crab was an interesting topping.. Never had it on a pizza. It was good but, crab on pizza? What was I thinking? It wasn't even necessary. It was overpowered by the other ingredients. I forgot it was there.

This is a very small cafe, but well worth a visit.  I have been here three times and each was a pleasant experience.  I love the balsamic vinaigrette dressing they use on the salad.  Very yummy!  I also loved the steak sandwich with caramelized onions.   Mmmm.... I've had it twice.  Each time I've visited, it's been after a session of wine tasting around Apple Hill, so I have not had a chance to explore their wine list.   The service has always been friendly, the right combination of attentiveness and discretion.  The ambiance is casual, yet romantic enough for a date.  Because of how tight the space is, I do not recommend it for small children.

My wife and I went to Heyday this afternoon based on reviews and had a great experience. We found a great glass of wine and ordered 3 different things off the menu. The owner was very social and let us taste a few wines why we were at the bar.

We will be returning to this location many times in the future and can't wait to take friends with us. I'm looking forward to the owners second location that has a totally different menu further up main sometime next month!

This was recommended by a local winery as a place for lunch.  But I'm not in a hurry to go back.  They had a great wine list, but given we had already been wine tasting we passed on that.  I had the chicken curry salad, and it was very good but pretty small as far as entree salads go.  I left hungry.   My wife had the same thing as a wrap with a side salad, which is basically packaging the same thing up but adding a tortilla to the mix.

There's only one uni-sex bathroom which seems to always have a line (which says something about how popular this place is).  We gave up and waited for the next stop to find a bathroom.

A lovely place; delicious food and wine, and excellent service.  The Garlic BLT and the Peppercorn Steak Salad are my favorites.  The wait staff is personable and professional.  Because I live in Cameron Park it is not always convenient for me to drive over, but the local restaurant I normally eat in, Zac Jac Bistro, proved to be appalling in its service and I will gladly make the drive to Heyday moving forward.

Placerville has seen some nice additions to its downtown scene, becoming more boutique-y, trendy, and less hang-towny.

Heyday cafe is riding high on the new trend, serving up wild mushroom pizzas, thai soups, wraps, butternut squash salads and wine flights of the day.  All in all, a fair version of what has become the standard fusion restaurant.

They do a busy lunch, with unpolished but friendly waitstaff.  Prices are a tad higher than other places in town, but with their brisk business right now, why not?

Not too sure how the locals feel about this new blood, but as a regular visitor to this area, I rather like it.

(At the very least, a little extra tax revenue never hurt anyone, did it?)

Our group of four wandered in for lunch after a trip to Apple Hill.  We ordered a couple of panini combinations and wraps, mine with bacon and turkey.   They were all remarkably ample in size and excellent tasting.  The service was very good considering the large luncheon crowd, and we  promised to return on another visit to downtown Placerville.

I love Heyday, one of the shining stars in Placerville. But the food is somewhat inconsistent - in my experience at least. I like salads - sometimes the Heyday salads are well made, but sometimes they seem uncreative. Sometimes they toss the salads with the dressing. But more than once it came simply poured on.

If it wasn't for the inconsistencies, I would give five stars. Looking forward to trying their new place down the street.

Had their turkey, stuffing and cranberry pannini. It was fantastic.  Along with my side selection of lobster bisque soup, it was filling and very satisfying.  Hubby had a chicken pannini that I had trouble getting a taste of - it was that good.  Service was good and we received our lunch timely, even though we arrived during the lunch rush. We found this place through Yelp and boy was it dead on. This place is 'deelish'! Food is great, wine selections are good, customer service is wonderful and ambience is very relaxed yet nice.

I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and my boyfriend ordered the Pork Tenderloin. We shared both dishes and they were both phenomenal. The jek chicken has more spices and the pork is on the sweet side and less spices. They wer both cooked to perfection. We had a  bottle of Chardonnay with friends and it was great.

This is  must go to place if you are in Placerville.

Desserts: We had the fudge brownie and bundt cake. They were ok. Nothing out of the ordinary. Wish there were more choices for desserts but hey, the main dishes are phenomenal so I'm happy.

My new favorite restaurant!! I'm tempted to drive all the way to Placerville all of the time now just to come back and eat here.

The food is phenomenal, the service is amazing, and the mocha was exceptional. I loved the decor and the brick walls. They are located right on Main Street in the heart of all of the P-Ville shopping. My date and I sat and enjoyed ourselves long after we finished our meal. I can't wait to come back....I couldn't imagine a more perfect restaurant if I tried!

Ok so I am spoiled by SF and while I do enjoy visiting the town I grew up in I wouldn't say it offers too many  diverse dining experiences.
We visited Heyday around 5pm on weeknight and it's a rather small place, but very cute; it's very homey but modern and trendy at the same time. The menu has something for everyone and there's an excellent wine list to complement your meal.

I go here regularly when I am in Hangtown and have never been disappointed. Last night was another excellent dining experience. Salmon with a corn salad an exceptional Vanessa salad with what must have been local fresh and probably organic tomatoes. Our server opened a bottle of wine for us to taste (Greco de tufo ??) This was very nice of him; he would have used it at the bar if we had chosen something else.  The room has a casual and cozy ambiance with exposed brick and plaster walls.

Wandering the main drag while on a driving break to Tahoe, I was very pleased to have chosen this cafe for lunch.  Fantastic food in a nice, open space with friendly staff.
Since I arrived just after the main lunch hours &  there were just about 10 other patrons inside.  Although tables were available, I chose my preferred at-the-bar spot.  I like to watch the staff process orders and see the dishes brought out from the kitchen.  WOW!  YUM!
I ordered a lovely sandwich/salad comb. plate which was super yummy.  The salad was perfectly dressed with their own house dressing (unexpected), and the curry chicken sandwich?  Delectable!  I tasted my dining partner's potato salad and sandwich comb. as well.  Equally great.  I don't think you could make an 'error' in anything you order here.  Very fine wine selection from locals vintners.
    I look forward to returning!

Cute restaurant. Good wine selection.  Good service.

My friends and I stopped here on the way back to Sacramento from Tahoe.  The restaurant is located in Old Placerville.  The place is really cute and has great ambiance, but is really small...I think it can only hold about 40-46 people.

The service is great.  The staff came over immediately when we were seated and checked on us regularly.

The food selection is great.  I can't remember half the stuff on the menu (probably because I was still re-cooping from a hangover), but I ordered their Salmon BLT Panini.  For all those that know me, I don't eat land animals...NADA, ZILCH, NOTHING.  Well...I decided to leave the bacon in my panini.  Yes, I purposely told them not to take it out.  And boy oh boy did it taste good.  Regardless of me leaving the bacon in the panini, the sandwich would've still been yummo.

For my wine pairing with my panini, I ordered a glass of their Chateau Grand Piquey Sauternes.  This was definitely their most expensive glass of white they offered and it did not disappoint.  I love sweet dessert wines and this hit the spot.  Overall...I feel they offer a pretty diverse (geographically) selection of wines...South Africa, Italy, France, El Dorado, Amador, Spain, Mendocino, and the list goes on and on.

I look forward to going back again...mmm, so yummy!!

I came here for lunch because, well, you all put it to number 1 on the lunch list in Placerville.

While I can totally understand where you all are coming from, I wasn't as pleased with my visit.

I ordered a basic pannini without the dairy, and it was decent, but not $12 decent. It was very small bread overloaded with protein, and I just wasn't satisfied when I left (fries would have helped, but were not available).

The decor/ambiance was very nice and the service was superb.

People love it here, but it just wasn't for me.

Cute little place in Placerville! An old friend of mine met here when I was in the area for dinner.

Showed up on a Thursday night and got seated immediately. Our waitress was sweet and told us the specials of the day and took our drinks order.

Their menu looks really delicious and lots of great items on the menu. Their only downfall is that their prices are a bit higher for what they serve. That was a disappointment.

I ordered a salad and a bowl of soup. The potato leek soup was really good and was worth the $4. Unfortunately the salad was nothing to get excited about and was $10.

When I come back, I plan to order something else. And I definitely would be back...cute place and atmosphere.

Need comfort food...gourmet pizza or steak and mashed potatoes. Personal favorite: Greek salad with cut up dolmas on top. Great wine list featuring and supporting the local vineyards. Atmosphere is perfect, trendy and hip yet comfortable. Service makes or breaks an evening and it is consistently very good here. The owner is always present and interactive so one is sure to be well taken care of.

Right amount of food after a day of sightseeing and wineries.

    Great service.
