This place has it all, and in a nice little location as well.  The staff is well intentioned if a little hapless, but they're very nice to everyone.  Best features are the heated floors in the bathroom, fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs.  The view is also great of the river, and you can hear the train going by every once in a while.

Location-wise it's also a good place to stay with many good restaurants, although being in the middle of Chicago's suburbs I can see how it might be an overlooked spot.  If you need a break, want a romantic spot to stay this is likely a very good choice.

The downstairs area reminds me of the banquet room in the Schloss Adler from Where Eagles Dare.  It looks like it's straight out of 18th century Imperial Germany, replete with heavy oak and leather chairs, fireplaces and a classic looking bar.  I wish I'd had more time to spend down there, even if I lived in the area I'd love to pretend I didn't and stay here for a few days.

The Herrington is what I would call small town luxury. It's clearly a staple in Geneva and a sought after destination for many "locals". We were charmed with it from the moment we laid eyes on it as we crossed over the Fox River. The front desk staff (Anjelica and Corina) were more than a little delightful, taking the time to recommend a few places for dinner and putting us in the best room in our "bracket". There were fresh flowers in the lobby and local fare in the room. Plenty of Hollywood elite (Tom Hanks, Jude Law) have stayed there thanks to Geneva being the home of "Road to Perdition" filming several years back.

We thought our room could use some upgrading (fresh coat of paint, a bit less lace and rose-themed fabric, new fixtures) but it was grand to be sure. $200 for a suite was a welcome surprise, and we enjoyed the little things about the stay, including our favorite element: little bottles of milk and homemade cookies as part of turndown service.

We would stay there again in a heartbeat. . . and will. Not to mention if you're looking to have a wedding in Kane County, this is the ONLY place to do it. I'm sure of it.

The Herrington is a wonderful hotel... fancy, but relaxed. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and all of downtown Geneva is walking distance. You can local-yokel-shop or bar crawl or fancy-dine... whatever! Downtown Geneva is especially beautiful during Christmas. The hotel bad is also cozy for cocktails with a toasty fireplace and comfy chairs a plenty.

We did the "spa thing" as well, and it's the same nice, relaxed atmosphere. Great!

Sorry for the short review, but this place is a no-brainer 5 yelp-star experience... and I have Christmas shopping to do!
Merry Christmas yelpers and yelpees!

On a whim, my husband and I decided to take a quick getaway to Geneva.  And the Herrington was the perfect place for our retreat from the bustling city and everyday lives.

The location on the Fox River just 'whispers' relaxation.  We were excited to get a room with a balcony over the river.  Its a picturesque view and is perfect for kicking back and drinking some wine and cocktails.  We loved it so much we even had breakfast on the balcony the next morning.

The rooms are well furnished with king sized beds and jacuzzi tubs.  They even have services where the spa can deliver a bath basket and draw you your bath ! Another nicety was the cookies and milk (Oberweiss glass bottles!) provided in their turn down service.

We didn't get a chance to visit the spa.. but definitely plan on coming back and completing the full Herrington experience.

I love this place. I absolutely adore this place. It is my stress-busting secret -- when I don't have time to get away, I can still get away! So let me start with the backstory...

Last April was a very hectic time for my husband and I. We were planning our wedding and it felt like we were on the phone with someone about the wedding most of the time. One calm night (which was a true rarity), I asked him if he wanted to go away with me for the weekend; kind of like a pre-honeymoon trip. He agreed, and after doing some internet research, I found the Herrington Inn and Spas.

I am so glad I did.

I made the reservation for a weekend, and told the people at my office that I would be leaving town, told my friends and family that they wouldn't be able to reach me, and shut my cell phone off. We drove, together, to Geneva and were greeted by an extremely friendly bellman, who helped us with our bags up to our room on the 3rd floor, overlooking the courtyard.

The room was goregeous. A king size bed, a small private balcony, and an incredible bathroom, that even included a spa menu -- a menu of things you could order from their spa and have brought to your room...

We decided to go out to a casual dinner the first night, so we left the hotel for a short time. When we got back, they had dropped off some freshly baked cookies and milk for us. We ate our cookies on the porch and went back inside to sleep.

The next day, we walked around downtown Geneva (very very cute), and in the afternoon, I went to the spa. The spa service was just as good as the hotel was. The masseuse (Megan, I beleive) was gentle but strong enough for me and helped make the whole weekend getaway experience even better. While I was at the spa, my husband enjoyed spending time in the room watching the golf tournament and napping...

It was an incredible experience, and I just booked another reservation to go back this year. I'm six months pregnant, so going back to Italy this year is kind of out of the question...The Herrington Inn and Spa is getting away without really leaving town...

Pure luxury.

We stayed here for a friend's wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous.  One night we stayed in a suite and the other in a smaller room.  The suite was amazing.  It had a kitchenette with a dining table, a living room with a television and an electric fireplace, a great balcony, a private bedroom with a king size bed, television and huge bathroom complete with giant jacuzzi tub (it fits two people comfortably).  The room was too nice for me to even take in in just one evening.  Everything was luxurious - the fabrics in the living room, the carpets, the sheets and comforter, the robes.  It was very soft, cozy and wonderful.  It's the perfect place to get away with your significant other.  The suites are expensive, but worth it for an anniversary or special treat.  They even bring you milk and cookies before bed!!!!  Soo yummy and fun.  The kitchenette - of course - has a mini bar and a gourmet food basket.  There's also coffee and tea service free of charge that you can make yourself in your room.  The windows have nice wooden shades that block out all light so you can sleep in.  Yay!  The balcony in our room opened out onto the Fox River and it was really beautiful and calm.  It was a nice view during the day and very relaxing at night.

The smaller, regular rooms are just as luxurious, just not as large.  The bed was still amazingly comfy and large (king size again) and there was a semi-large bathroom complete with a jacuzzi tub for one.   The room is still nice and they still have the great gourmet mini-bar and free milk and cookies before bed.  The small room also has a fireplace so you can still be romantic and cozy.  The  French Doors open up out onto a shared patio with a small table so you can go outside.

The lobby has a great seating area and bar that is open all day.  There is a free continental breakfast in the lobby that is comprehensive and very nice.  It starts early and ends late to accommodate everyone.  The hotel staff are very knowledgeable about the area and have suggestions for activities near the hotel.  They are very accommodating to all of the guests and go out of their way to help.  For my friend's wedding, we needed to leave the hotel and walk across the street to the site of the wedding and reception hall but it was raining!  The hotel staff scrambled to find umbrellas for everyone in the wedding party so our dresses wouldn't get wet.  It was great!

We had a lovely experience at the hotel and I would definitely go back.  It was a great place to host a wedding or have all the guests for a wedding stay.  The hotel amenities are great and there's a lot of historic things to see and do nearby.

Love this place! I have been there several times for spa services.  The girls working make you feel extremely comfortable and the environment is very calming.  Upon entering the spa, you are escorted to the second level of the Herrington where a secure locker awaits you with a plush robe and slippers.  There is a bath area with a stocked vanity and walk-in shower.  A waiting area is provided so you can relax to the sounds of a waterfall and drink tonic water.  The lighting is low and soft piano music is playing.
A full spa menu is provided.  I have had a facial, massage and go regularly for skincare products that were recommended following my faical.  I also see one of the astheticians regularly for waxings.  Andrea is my absolute favorite asthetician! She made me feel soooooo comfortable and does such a wonderful and complete job.  I highly recommend her.  Although I shouldn't let the secret out, as it will probably make it more difficult for me to get in with her!

I came to the Herrington Inn for a girls day about a month ago and really enjoyed my experience.  The place is gorgeous and quaint, right next to the Fox Valley River.

It's a hotel and Spa - I'm reviewing the Spa service and the lobby - I didn't not stay there.

The spa is great!  Very cozy and warm - needs to be warm especially if you're half naked in a robe!  I went for their 30min massage and man...I wish I booked a 90 min session.  The spa area is decorated with Asian accents, very Zen -like with soft spa music playing in the background.  The is also the sound of running water from a rock garden.  In th waiting area, there is a very loud massage chair that faces a tv screen displaying pictureque scenes of birds, water, and mountains. very relaxing.

Besides various different massages, you may also get a facial.  I'm not sure what else they have, but I'm sure its great! My two girlfriends both got mini facials and LOVED it!

I'd love to go back again!

We booked a River Premier room at the Herrington for our anniversary and had a wonderful stay. These are just a few observations that you may find interesting or helpful.

Staff:
Staff was very cordial and seemed to take their work as hosts of an upscale hotel seriously. I felt that they would do whatever they could to make the stay enjoyable. Top marks.

Accommodations:
Very comfortable and nicely decorated, of course you would expect that from a high end property. So allow me to get a little nit-picky. We had a balcony overlooking the river. It was a nice place to relax. On the downside, there is no divider or privacy in between your balcony and the adjacent balcony. If your neighbors are out at the same time it can feel a little awkward.

Suprisingly, it's pretty loud out on the balcony. I think something about the design of the building tends to reflect the traffic noise and can make can make soft conversation difficult. So you have to speak up, but not so loud that your neighbors on the deck hear.

Also, whenever I'm at a very high end inn or restaurant (which isn't very often), I like to take a close look at the woodwork and little details. I appreciate seeing the small details that somebody has taken pains to produce. Not too much of that here. Railings are simple 2x4, spider webs in the lights, etc. but 98% of the population will neither notice or care about this.

The bathroom is gorgeous. Heated marble, spa tub, etc. very nice.

All in all, the Herrington's location (in the most beautiful town in Illinois) along with the staff make this place a winner.
