When a two-headed monster gets married to itself, it's a big deal.

Especially when one of those heads works in museums and loves historic homes.

Our wedding reception (not ceremony, though you can do both) at the Estate was incredible. From the planning phase with the coordinator, to the absolutely unbeatable pricing (seriously), to the event itself, the entire process was totally smooth.
Most of our communication with the event coordinator was through email which made planning from out of state really easy.  We were able to create a menu that was really unique to us. They allowed us to have friends make the cake and dj the music. Our photographers took beautiful photos of us in front of the house, in the rooms and the gardens.
The staff was friendly and helpful throughout the entire event and made sure we had everything we needed.

The grounds are beautiful and the house requires very little decoration because of its ornate structure. It was pretty hot for our mid-June event but the fans were turned on and the windows were open to let in as much fresh air as possible.

Basically it was amazing. Maybe we're partly biased because it was the best day ever, but it was extra good because of the amazing scenery.

I guess I've been spoiled by the great free museums elsewhere- I thought $10 for a tour of the grounds was a little expensive.

Luckily, you can do a self-guided tour for free of much of the grounds at the Henry Ford Estate. The gardens were beautiful, and a plaque by a treehouse replica said that Henry Ford was embarrassed by the opulence of his house and preferred to spend time in a treehouse in a large oak with his children.

There's a restaurant on the grounds, and the you can rent some of the facilities for weddings, receptions and other events. It would be a really pretty place to have a wedding and reception.

This review is for the HF Estate, and not the Pool room/museum.

The HS estate is Dearborn's version of central park, no joke. It's many acres large, and is named as such because it was (not surprisingly) the estate of Henry Ford. He had it built with the natural environment preserved, so it's a track of untouched Michigan flanked by the Rouge river.

There's a quarter mile long grass "runway" that goes from the back patio of the estate to the largest pond on the grounds. I once asked an employee why it was there. What I heard was that supposedly Ford had it made so that on the first day of spring, the sun rises in line with the runway and the first rays hit his home. I missed the first day of spring this year, but I wanted to see if it was true! True or not, it's the perfect place to kick off your shoes and just wander.

I'd suggest checking out the South end of the estate where the river is first (turn left after the brick walkway covered in Lilac!). I've spent many afternoons reading on the rocks here... it's a very peaceful place to be.

(I've also hunted for Morel mushrooms at the estate. They're there, but I'm sure the area is well looked over. Good luck!)

There's a few miles of trails going back through the forest, meeting ponds and lots of wildlife. This is a favorite spot of bird watchers and nature photographers - after spending a couple summers here, you start to see a lot of the same people there just doing their thing. It's REAL calm. If that's what you're looking for, then bring a good book and come here.

This place is awesome. The estate is just beautiful and the tour is great. I had never thought to come here but a friend was visiting from Thailand and we really wanted to show her something unique around here and I had also never been here too.

It was. The tour was really good a detailed. I wouldn't have thought there would be so many imported unique things. Such as the fireplace! I really loved the children's playhouse that was built in the yard. It was more like someones average house. If I was younger I would have been so incredibly jealous!

This place is great for all ages. But if your taking the tour a young child might get bored easily. Maybe skip the guided tour.
