I actually found Henna Lounge on yelp and chose Darcy because of her great reviews. And I'm not surprised she has so many stellar recommendations.
I've gotten two henna's from Darcy in the last several months- not really for a special occasion, just to do something nice for myself and it has been such a wonderful experience. Scheduling online was very easy, she responded to my questions right away, and location and parking were also easy.
I sent several pictures ahead of my appointment to help describe what I was looking for and then I asked her to add her own artistic insight and the results were awesome. I've gotten so many compliments. -

Great for kids!
Darcy was gracious enough to allow my 5 yr old to get s small henna decoration (usual cutoff age is 6) and it was a great experience. it's true she is fast and very accurate. my daughter ended up watching her work on other for at least 30min at our recent block party.
Now she's proudly showing off her henna art to everyone she meets. thanks darcy! -

Darcy at Henna Lounge does pretty amazing work; she has such a steady accurate hand and is so patient and creative. I got my 9 month pregnant belly decorated with henna and loved the final results. It lasted for a good 3 weeks. She was flexible with the scheduling the appointment and creative with the decoration! If I were back in the bay area, I'd have her henna my feet just for fun! Thanks Darcy!

I was thinking recently of people whose services really are top notch and Darcy immediately popped into my head.
She is amazing on so many counts: incredibly professional (we have worked multiple events together), incredibly kind and insanely talented.
Her henna cannot be matched by anyone here or abroad. She has studied her craft and whether you want a classic Indian, Persian or Middle Eastern style henna, Darcy has designs for you. She is quick and just amazing to watch.
I have attended two parties where she was the guest artist. She was hired to be the artist at my bridal shower and I hired her to do my wedding henna. Everyone is super impressed by her work. Her henna is pure and mixed by her; no crazy additives to make it "black"
She is punctual, professional and a good listener. If we could only clone her, this world would be a prettier place. Since that is not possible, let me just recommend Darcy to be your one and only henna artist , cause damn the girl has talent.
The proof is in the pudding. Just look at the photos. -

This was my first time getting a Henna tattoo done and Darcy was great. Her place was beautiful and she is an actual artist so It was neat to have someone do this with an eye for aesthetics. It wasn't weird to sit there for an hour talking to a total stranger, she made me feel very comfortable and the time went by smoothly. I would recommend :-)

On a vacation in SF a few years ago I decided to get hennaed by Darcy. I had seen her work online but nothing compares to seeing it done right before your eyes. She has exquisite skills, creating gorgeous designs with clean lines, perfect symmetry and gorgeous flow. I loved watching her work; it became a kind of meditation to see her creativity flow out of her henna cone onto my skin.
Being hennaed by a talented expert is an experience not to be missed. I especially liked her space which was beautifully decorated and very cozy. The whole experience was a delight. I'm back in NYC now, far from SF and Darcy's mad skills but I have photos to remind me. I hope to make it back there, if only for her henna. -

Darcy did the henna for my wedding a couple of weeks ago. I'll upload some pictures of it when I get the chance. Short version? Absolutely incredible.
First of all, everyone was stunned by her work. My brother, who's usually one of the most sarcastic and blase people I know? Amazed. My parents? Incredulous. My (new) Indian relatives? Couldn't believe that this was done by a non-Indian person, and couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was.
With the yelp and "come to my location" discounts, she was actually more affordable than any other artist I looked at, and I can't begin to describe how much I loved my henna. I couldn't stop looking at it. I only wish that I had stuck to the Indian custom of not doing any housework, because my hand henna is almost gone at this point. :( My foot henna is still going strong though, two weeks later, and I still ogle it every chance I get.
Additionally, her henna paste smells great because she adds essential oils to it!
This makes me want to learn how to do henna, because although I wish I could have Darcy do my henna all the time, realistically it would be a little silly (and would really add up). For now I'm just going to go to my neighborhood Indian store, buy a few tubes of henna and practice on everything that moves, inspired by Darcy. -

I don't really have a reason or specially event to go to have henna, but since I have no guts to do the tattoo. It's about the time to do something fun on my body. $50 per half an hour, with the best quality you could get. Heehee, it turns out what a AMAZINGLY work she's done! Unbelievable nice! Got my henna at my back yesterday on my back with Darcy. Pic has uploaded, everyone keeps asking where I got it done. Heehee, they are jealous, j/k. Next time I wanna do something more dramatic and bIGGER~ lol Darcy is a very sweet and talent artist for sure. Whoever don't ask for her, shame on you~ woohahaha...

Darcy, the owner of Henna Lounge, is a talented henna/mehndi artist. She offers a variety of henna services for brides, parties, and individuals. Brides may request a free 30 minute consultation. She works at her home studio or other locations.
I wanted a elaborate pattern on my palms and simpler work on the top of my hands and feet. She created an incredibly beautiful and intricate design. She has a warm and friendly personality. She also thoroughly answered all my questions. It cost $200 and took about 2 1/2 hours.
If you go to Darcy's studio, make sure that you obtain clear directions. She does not have a business sign outside her door. Also if you plan to have henna on your palms or fingers, I suggest that you have someone drive you home or take a taxi. -

Darcy is sweet, warm, and an amazing artist. She not only gave me a fantastic design on my hand and arm, but made the whole experience a pleasure.
The paste was home made and all natural, and the stain was a beautiful dark brown color. She drew quickly and precisely, and made conversation about everything and anything while working. We laughed plenty, and I walked away with my art feeling like I'd made a friend.
If you are in or near San Fransisco, you must go and see her for an appointment. She works out of her home; an awesome space in the Mission with lovely decor and a relaxed, fusion-ethnic atmosphere. -

Darcy is superb! She did the absolutely most incredible, beautiful, phenomenal henna on my bald head. Let me tell you, being a bald woman can feel wobbly at times...everyone looks at you and wonders if you have cancer, what your story is.
With Darcy's art on my head, I get stopped every fifteen minutes or so with praise and 'wow! I LOVE that!' People ask, people smile, the admiration around the city for Darcy's work has been mindblowing...it's been the most tremendous blessing.
Darcy is professional, wildly talented, kindhearted, and the absolutely the best henna goddess around.
Honor your journey, celebrate yourself, go see Darcy. She'll take sublime care of you. :) -

Darcy was incredible. I was a part of the bachelorette weekend mentioned in Dara A.'s review below and I would echo everything she said.
Darcy's interpretation of what we "liked" (based on glancing at some examples in a catalog) was BEAUTIFUL. The three of us (Dara, myself and the woman of the weekend) were noticed and complimented everywhere we went - a difficult accomplishment in San Francisco. :)
Highly worth it! -

Darcy is one of the most talented and creative people I have ever met, not just with her henna/mendhi designs. She is a well rounded artist which I believe makes her designs stand out that much more.
I have been a customer of Darcy's for the past 7 years and I usually tell her to have fun and do whatever she wants and I have never been disappointed.
Recently, I attended one of her workshops. Where you get instruction in a small group, not just on the actual designs themselves but also about the history and tradition of this culturally rich art. And it was really fun : ) -

Darcy Rocks! Darcy Rocks! Darcy Rocks! I was so blown away by her interpretation of my pueblo sun for Burning Man. I was constantly stopped and asked where I had my henna because it was such a beautiful rendering. Darcy was really easy to work with, highly communicative from a schedule standpoint, had great parking right out fron, a wonderful space for the studio and to top it all off, Darcy is an absolute sweetheart! If you want a truly great piece, and a great expereince getting it, groove on over to Henna Lounge!

Darcy did my henna for my wedding and it was absolutely beautiful. She is so sweet and just puts you at ease. I've had henna done in India many times, and even my parents agreed that Darcy's work surpassed much of what they've seen there. She puts a ton of care and love into what she does, and makes her own henna- the color and stain is amazing!

Darcy is awesome! I have to admit...at first I was a little skeptical about having a non-Indian do my wedding henna but all of my fears were put to rest when I met her. She is professional, friendly, flexible with regard to scheduling, makes her own henna (and cones!) and is just an incredible artist. We leafed through henna pattern books together for a bit before combining a few of them to get exactly what I wanted. I was so happy with the results, as was my husband, and even the brown people in my family marveled at her work! That's when you know she's gooooooood. I would highly recommend her for anyone wanting to get their henna done, whether it's simple or bridal, and, in the infamous words of the late, great Michael Jackson, it doesn't matter if you're black (or brown as the case may be) or white.

After looking at Darcy's work on-line, I actually booked her almost a year before my actual wedding! We emailed back an forth in that time and on the actual day, my 2 best friends and I went to her loft in SF.
This was cheaper than having her come to me and worked out for the best. Brides usually get their mehndi done at their mehndi party but this set up was soooooo much more comfortable for me. Instead of getting dolled up and sitting up on a chair infront of a crowd of people, I was able to lie back on her couch in my comfy clothes. The application of mehndi on your arms and legs makes you feel cold but she had the fire going and a blankie to keep me warm. On the day of my actual mehndi party (because ofcourse I still had one!), I was able to enjoy it better and dance as much as I wanted because I already had my mehndi done.
Darcy makes her own mehndi from scratch (she gets the henna leaves shipped to her from india and, to my knowledge, doesn't put any artificial dye in it. The color of my mehndi was so intense, I couldn't believe it. My wedding was on saturday and I applied my mehndi on Thursday. I thought it would start fading before the wedding but it just kept getting darker.
Her work is not too thick where it looks amateurish or too thin where it starts to fade quickly. She has a variety of patterns, both modern and traditional. She is very quick at applying her mehndi neatly and makes conversation with you so that time flies by very quickly.
If you go to her loft, be sure to take a stack of quarters with you because the parking spaces have meters. She is truly talented at what she does, you will leave feeling amazed and proud to show off your mehndi! -

Darcy is a very talented artist and I went to her to recreate a large tattoo that I was thinking of getting before making the art permanent. Not only did she do a fantastic henna design, but she referred me to my tattoo artist which is one of the best in Polynesian tattoo. The henna turned out great and it lasted a week. I would highly recommend. I did end up getting the tattoo and I love it. Darcy's help with sizing/placement of the henna design really helped the end, permanent result.

Darcy is the most talented henna artist I've ever met. She has been henna-ing me for many years for special occasions, and the work is always fantastic! She is trained in a variety of traditions, from East Indian to Middle Eastern, but I love her own creations the best. She is an inspired artist who can craft a traditional-looking design to a specific, and completely contemporary, theme.

darcy of henna lounge is one of THE BEST henna artists that i know. she mixes her own special recipe of fresh henna paste and the stain comes out very dark and consistent. if you are looking for really traditional, intricate mendhi, check her out, you won't be disappointed. as a fellow henna artist, i give her 5+++ stars!
