First, I think the map of this hotel is off.  It is located directly on the boardwalk, about five blocks from Rehoboth Avenue.  This was a fine choice for a last minute family weekend at the beach.  The features I really liked were 1) on the boardwalk; 2) changing rooms you can use before check-in and after check-out; 3) our room was very newly furnished and nicely appointed; 4) the room had a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and a microwave.  The parts I didn't like as much were 1) no pool; 2) the design of having sections of the building facing each other over a courtyard caused the humming of the air conditioning to drown out the sound of the surf; 3) it was pricey; and 4) the included breakfast was a little cheap.  We did get a large studio room with two queen beds and an entertainment center that served as a room separator, which was nice.  There were two balconies where you had a partial view of the beach, but for $359 I would have expected a little bit more.  Still, a solid choice, the service was fine.

I would make a minor point that there was a major accident on the Bay Bridge at 4:00 am on the Sunday morning we were leaving that caused 5 hour delays crossing the bridge with two lanes open.  I heard other hotels had warned their guests at check out.  We didn't learn about it until we were in the delayed traffic.  Not a huge subtraction from the hotel, it wasn't their fault, but they didn't go that extra mile.

We would consider coming back, but might check out other places first.

The hotel rooms are large, but plain, and we had a problem with flies in the room.  But, you can't beat the location.  Right on the boardwalk and 10 minutes from Rehoboth Avenue.

The Henlopen isn't overly fancy by any means, but I like its location further up the beach and a little bit away from the crowded area. This hotel has been around forever, and while the rooms could use some updates, it is great for the price. The rooms have balconies, and it doesn't cost much more to get an ocean or partial ocean view. The Henlopen doesn't have a pool, which might be a drawback for people with kids. They do have parking, which is great. All-in-all I would definitely stay here again.
