These ladies are magic! In an ever-present mission to keep things special, but not formal for our wedding we found this place right next to our wedding venue. It was so much more than convenient.

Heather got a perfect idea together from my first visit, & despite some crazy bride nerves, got my hair to be just right. Ditto for the bridesmaids & MOB ( i love that one).

Make-up & manicure/pedicure were equally spot on. Everyone has such an amazing personality here & they make sure you look like you have some style without being pushy or cooler then you at all.

Thank you all! My wedding was spectacular and getting pretty here just made everything better.

Heather is a wizard with scissors.
I stubbornly grow out my hair for 2 years and wonder why it has no body.
Duh.
I go to Heather and her shears sparkle in the sunlight as she snips away my pathetic ends into something fancy that I can never duplicate but I sure look good when I walk out. I'm still working on the duplicating part but it takes me about 5 times the time (and effort) that it takes Heather. Um yeah, I'm not big on styling.
Hmmmm......maybe in two years I'll finally have it down. ;-)
They have moved to a bigger space with air conditioning and now have pedicures. The chair looks like a throne and I may have to check that out.

Oh how I love Yelp!  It helped me find Helmet Head and see all the great reviews that previous Yelpers left so that I knew that I was going to a great place.

So many good things about this place: private parking lot (BIG plus!) and big and spacious shop (they have a garage door that opens up on nice days - so nice and refreshing!  Also good if there are perms & colorings going on so the chemical smell won't stay contained in the shop).  Some other goodies: 3 totally cute dogs, laidback environment, variety of magazines to read, oldies music (I love stuff from the past!), and the girls that work here are all down to earth, friendly and informative.

Kudos to Kurstin for being patient and fixing my crazy colored hair.  All different shades of brown from old dye jobs with 1+ inch dark roots but after a few tries (and as painless as it can possibly be, especially for my sensitive scalp), I got an even all over color!  YES!  As maid-of-honor, I know that my best friend/bride-to-be will approve.  She was nervous that I'd go lighter.  Although I originally wanted to go lighter, I'm glad that I got a dark brown shade - it makes me look tanner haha.

This place is really fun.  I've known Heather for most of my life.  She always gives me a great haircut.  Her pug, Pepper sits on my lap and we talk about old times.

I came to Helmet Head after following Betsy from Vain.  I've usually had really good experiences with Betsy, but unfortunately this past appt wasn't one of them.

I have hair that takes a long time to grow.  I have fine hair so most stylists choose to give me layers to give the illusion of volume.  I told Betsy I didn't want my shortest layer too short and to not make my hair look like a mullet.  She accomplished the latter, but unfortunately my shortest layer was much shorter than I wanted and the shape of my hair afterwards was just too awkward.

I was very displeased with my haircut which I explained to Betsy.  She invited me to come back during my bang trim to reshape my hair, which I probably will not end up going to because I fear she will just chop more of my hair off.

I ended up going to another salon and paying another stylist to fix the shape.

Overall, I probably will not be visiting Betsy again- which is unfortunate considering how happy I had been with her a few years back.   Betsy is still a great stylist and very pleasant to be around- I just don't know if I would trust her with my hair again.

I recently went to Helmet Head and treated myself to a pedicure, compliments of Annabeth (she ROCKS!).  I had never been to the salon before, but I will be back!  The decor was cool, love the funky vibe, and best of all, I had a fabulous pedicure!  I wish they sold the OPI polish they use, because I'm digging this color on my toes!

I just went here today and had the best experience I've ever had at a salon. Sammy did an AWESOME job on my color, she is so knowledgable about what she does and just such a fun person in general. I had a great time and felt like the three hours I spent there just flew by, what a fun salon this is. Unpretentious, colorful, full of fun stuff to buy, and the cutest chihuahua sitting on my lap half the appt! Maybe this isn't some people's kind of place but to each their own and I will DEFINITELY be back here. I got some great tips on keeping my color in and wasn't scolded as I am at many salons for the hair crimes we all commit at times. I think I died and went to hair heaven.

Thank you Helmet Head for making me beautiful again, and being so close to my work, with free parking and bars next door. God bless Georgetown.

Attention all South-enders:  Go here, you deserve it.

Helmet Head kicks ass, plain and simple.

Got my first cut with Sammy yesterday and she took my less-than-optimal description of what I wanted and made my vague vision come to life.  On top of being gorgeous, Sammy is friendly, down to earth, had a vested interest in my happiness, and didn't try to push any products on me.  She also didn't make me feel bad or guilty that I color my own hair, she actually gave me some good advice about how to do it for best results.  I walked out of there with a great look that's completely me, and I will be back.  I'll bring my guy there too.

The salon resides in a terrific new space complete with motorcyles on display, one of a kind dressing mirrors (Sammy's husband made them!), pedicures and manicures, massage, Reiki on Fridays, and well-behaved, adorable dogs that add a special welcoming touch.

Look for the painted flames on the front windows and go get yourself a great new 'do!

So far the best hair salon I have found in Seattle. Chill and relaxed. Heather knows what she is doing and is nice. I like that they have doggies around and the decor is pretty fun too. Will recommend!

Let me start out by saying that I have CRAZY curly hair. I have a really hard time finding someone who can cut it and not completely screw it up, so I'm really gun-shy about hair cuts. I usually wait until my hair is seriously damaged and ragged before letting someone take scissors to it.

The decision to go to Helmet Head was made somewhat *for* me, as I was going to get my hair cut as part of a fundraiser and all the other participating salons were booked.  When I looked at their website, though, I had a feeling I had made the right choice.

My appointment was with Heather.  She was awesome.  She not only listened to my concerns, she also understood them and, this is the best part, took them into consideration while cutting my hair.  She clearly has an artist's eye and cares about making sure her clients are happy with their look.  I got the best cut from her I've gotten in years.  And, she didn't try to pressure me into buying expensive product (which I did, anyway, because the stuff smelled so good).  I am thrilled to have found such a great place; I won't get my hair cut anywhere else.

What's not to love?

Talented, friendly, and talkative staff.
Dogs to keep you company while hanging out.
A nice, relaxed attitude.
A general feeling you're getting your hair cut by a good friend but getting professional work.

I love this place and will be back again for sure!

***Update in early 08 - they moved to their new location along Airport Way so if you're just planning on popping in, go there!*****

They may be in my backyard (one reason for the visit) but this place rocks. The decor is much better then other salons I have been to. Rudy's never takes appointments which made it hard for me to go to and even with the good service Helmet Head blows them away.

The staff is friendly, outgoing very talkative and ready to make you feel at home. I won't be one to comment on the mani's and Pedi's but Ali did a great job trimming the hair that I am blessed enough to have left on my head. Instead of just pulling out the old buzzers she buzzed with a comb! Made it look more like a cut and less of a fresh buzz (my normal is a 1.5 buzz if that helps)   She made my hair look clean and head look great.

The dogs rule and are funny as hell. I kinda wish I had more hair to cut so I could hang out a bit more. For the price of Rudy's I got a cut and THEN a rinse to get all those annoying small hairs that drive me nuts off my head and neck. ($10 for my cut)

Will be making this my new place for sure!!

Edit: we now have a new puppy and she is welcomed and allowed to run around off leash while we get our hair done. This is a huge plus since its always good to have pet friendly places.

Stay tuned for the new location opening this spring!!!!

AWESOME! heather cut my hair for the first time since i moved here and i am a very happy girl. she listened to what i had to say, didn't push products on me or try to get me to color my hair and she gave me a great style. i used to work in the industry and am always wary of stylists because i've seen the good, the bad and the ugly up close. nothing to fear here! and the little dogs - SO friendly! if you don't like dogs, this may not be the place for you as there is a certain puggle who will end up in your lap.

Great atmosphere, Great talent, chatty, fun, hip atmosphere, casual, cool, and puppies. Those are all the best things about Helmet Head. I sincerely appreciate all that Sammy (co-owner) did for my hair when she transformed it from black to white with Minimal hair loss. She foiled in the color carefully instead of recklessly globbing bleach straight onto my scalp - and THEN sent  me home with handfuls of sample product. Not finesse either; high end product to ensure the health and well-being of my coif.

Everything about this business tells you that these babes mean business. They're in it for fun and they do what they do because they love it, they love you, and they're oh-so-good at it!!

I can't wait to see Sammy, Ali, Heather, Mary, Pepper, Ozzie and Cisco again!

I am always looking for hair salons, ALWAYS.  I decided to try this place because of the reviews online and I didn't have to go downtown.  Now I will say, I actually did like my haircut by Ali.  I got a color and a cut.  I wasn't sure about either when I left the salon, but as the days went by I felt like she did a good job.  This salon has the rocker girl vibe, lots of cute dogs to sit in your lap while you are there.  Being that I don't consider myself much of a rocker girl, I don't really think I will be back. I tend to like salons that are more spa like with head massages, great relaxing environments, where I feel pampered.  This is more of a fun, hang out and talk about parties salon.  If Rock of Love with Bret Micheals were a hair salon, this would be it.

Visiting Sammy at Helmet Head--this is the first really great hair experience I have had in Seattle. I was born and raised in California and I am used to having my hair done by people who invented BLONDE. In contrast, the colorists up here in the Pacific Northwest seemed to have no idea what to do with my straight dark brown Asian hair. I tried periodically to find a stylist after I moved here in 1992 but was always badly freaked by what they did to my hair. Upon a friend's recommendation, I attempted to get my hair done in Kirkland a few years ago and the colorist turned my hair the color of a newly minted penny--Abe Lincoln was not the look I was going for. I did not go back there and ever since was white knuckling it for months in between hair appointments with my trusted So Cal stylist at South Coast Plaza. I was forced to get courage yesterday as my hair had become so scraggly that I could no longer wear it down and I was running out of ways to wear it UP. Thank god I found Helmet Head. I had tried to get an appointment at VAIN and they could not take me for a week--the lovely VAIN receptionist suggested that I try Helmet Head and I am so glad VAIN was booked up. Sammy at Helmet Head is BETTER than my colorist/stylist in California. She runs circles around difficult to color hair. The words "fried hair" are NOT in her vocabulary. She does not even know what that means she is so careful with hair. If you want your hair babied and your color perfect and your style to turn heads then go see her. I love her dogs. Do not go to this salon if you happen to be allergic to adorable long haired chihuahuas, pugs, French bulldogs or Australian Shepherds.

I used to go to Rudy's, which was fine but inconsistant, until a friend turned me on to Helmet Head.  This place rocks - they always do exactly what you want, they can handle anyone from a prom queen to my punk rock husband, and they have great magazines and beer.  Sammy took time to show me how to do my hair for my wedding as I'd be out of town and had to do it myself.

*UPDATE* New location!  Why doesn't Yelp have 6 stars?  These girls are living the dream in a new space and it rocks.

I used to go to overpriced 'salons' and forked over way to much for a bad hair cut with a side of attitude.  Now I go to Helmet Head.  I get a greeting from the puppies, a friendly hello and a great haircut - attitude free!  These girls know hair and aren't afraid to show it!

*UPDATE*  They now do manicures and pedicures!   This ain't no 'chop shop', this is HIGH CLASS.  Your hands and feet will thank you.

Old School Pin Ups Thinks this is THE Salon for Seattle, they can do anything! All types, all ages! Sammy, Heather, Ali and Mary really get the individual, they don't just cut n color to their whim they get to know what your tastes are and if you want to keep your length. I have always had a hard time with Hairdressers wanting to chop off my hair and cram their style onto my head, not here! You get the utmost attention to your feelings about how you like to wear your hair. When I first started going there, Sammy painstakingly took the time to bring my dark colored, but naturally blonde hair into something that I could go for a while before having to color while giving me something in between dark and light. I love love love my hair! IT feels great and looks even better. Then it was off to the magical hands of Mary, she gave me one of the most relaxing manicures I ever had and then polished them with Skill!
While there, I watched Heather and Ali all give haircuts and their patrons all looked great, it was obvious that many were their regular customers. That is what I am now "A Regular" I'll be going to Helmet Head from now on!
