I guess it was inevitable that my honeymoon with Helmet would eventually end. Fortunately, all was not lost and I think they did a pretty good job at remedying the situation.

Let's flash back to the week of the "Ain't Nothin' But a Yelp Thang" party. Of course, I had to look my best and wanted to get my hair did and my eyebrows cleaned up. On Monday I called and made an appointment with Som, my favorite stylist. I was given a few options and decided to go on Wednesday at 5:30 PM. I arrived a little early and was told that Som wasn't even working that day... my appointment had been booked with Deborah. *GASP*

Needless to say I was upset because the party was only a day away and I needed a haircut. Badly. They offered to call Som, but I didn't want to be "one of those people" who throw such a fit they make their stylist come in on their day off (even though I am pretty sure he would have come in for me). The manager came up and apologized. I was okay and decided to wait for Deborah. A few minutes later I was told that Deborah was still finished the client before me and Lindsay was going to assist me. Hearing that made me upset again because I had already resolved to seeing Deborah and now I was being forced to change my mind again.

Apparently Lindsay is a master stylist and was very thorough with me (it actually took an hour to finish). In the end I was very happy with how I looked and the manager was kind enough to comp my brow wax in consideration of my troubles.

Lindsay was great, but next time I think I'll be asking for Som because of our relationship. Regardless, it's nice to know that in case he's not available there's someone else that can cut my hair to my exact standards. Hopefully in the future whoever is answering the phone when I book my appointment knows that Som is my guy and won't make a similar mistake.

This review very nearly got four stars. In fact, I'm still wondering if I'll switch it. See, my experience was somewhat lop-sided at Helmet today. Upon the rave reviews on Yelp, I figured what the heck, I need a new place and everyone seems pretty into this place. I took a chance after checking out their website, which was somewhat difficult to navigate. I got my reservation confirmation rather quickly after making a request online. (Having the online option made me very happy.) So I hopped on the train and went down into Midtown.

When I walked in, it was rather cute inside. Cute old house in Midtown. I looked around a bit, saw the desk, came up to the two folks behind the desk, smiled, and said hello. Now, I'm a bit self-conscious, and always have been...but I got one of those feelings where I was being judged by my look; and since I'm not super-fashion savvy, I think I got a bit of the stink-eye. The receptionist took my name and checked me in, then told me I could wait in the waiting area. I looked around lost for a bit, then I heard a sigh and an "oh, yes, it's over there."

Then it all got better: Ashley came into my life. I was early, so I was expecting to wait a bit. Nope. She came in the waiting area after about 1 to 2 minutes of waiting. Yay! Ashley was amazingly personable and super-nice. We had a great chat about beer, the economy, religion, and acupuncture. She had personality with a capital P. AND she did a wonderful job with my hair. We talked for a few minutes about what I wanted, and she was able to take my indecisive babbling and turn it into what I wanted. Yay for Ashley! It's the best cut I've had in a loooooong time.

After I was finished with Ashley, she walked me back to the desk (yay, professionalism!) and wished me well. The entire time with me Ashley was warm, fun, and making sure everything was going well for me. After she left the desk area, I encountered another desk person who missed the customer service training and acted as if they were talking to an alien. Seriously, I'm pretty sure I don't have any kind of crazy abnormality. Maybe it was because I was wearing t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers in Midtown? I have no clue.

So the bottom line from my experience: go for the great stylist, not the customer service. I loved Ashley's work, so I'll survive the despondent/snotty/whatever desk agents again. But hopefully one day I'll be able to change this three-star review into a four or a five.

I went to Helmet recently for the first time and I was very pleased.  I had heard good things about Erika and decided to give her a try.  I had been going to someone (who will remain nameless) for over 18 months and it seemed he had lost his touch, as I felt like I was starting to get old lady hair!  GASP!  One who is 40, does NOT want OLH.

So, on with my review.  Erika was great.  She listened to what I wanted and came up with a perfect version of it.  She also did a mean blow-out and style.  I wish I could style my hair the way she did that day...it has yet to look as fabulous as it did that day, which is the only reason I'm not giving the experience five stars.  I think that it would be helpful if she could have shown me some styling tips, but she was a little behind on her schedule due to a late client before me (so I did not ask).

I'd recommend Helmet in midtown and Erika for sure.  Friendly staff, good service, nice style...no hassle!  I will definitely go back!  No more OLH for moi!

I have searched & searched for a stylist that can CUT...I have found him (yes, him...Cartez...bless his hands). I must admit that I was spoiled by my beautician of 20 years & only got my hair cut or colored while I was home, Chicago....my am I glad I found him...that was an expensive visit to the salon! ;~)

In addition to great service... The salon is easy to locate, good parking (for downtown) & the setup in great!

If you go there, ask for Cartez. He is great! Very nice personality and professional stylist.
I'm from Europe, and I used to get my haircut in a great hair salon in Milan...but I've never found someone able to do such a great job on my hair. Even the hair washing was different than in any other places - whit a very relaxing massage.

I was expecting a very expensive bill, but I would have paid for it because the result was great. And at the end, it was inexpensive compared to a lot of other salons.

The place is very clean and in a safe area.

My wife and I recently moved back to Georgia from Los Angeles. We have been every where that people say is the best and have been disappointed time and time again. Until we met Cartez Washington at Helmet. I have never seen my wife so beautiful and happy with her hair. Women go to Cartez, men take your wives and be so so pleased. He is incredible! It really is inexpensive compared to the prices of other salons.

I am very picky about the color of my hair and stylists often have a difficult time getting the shade correct. But WOW since I recently had Ashley color and cut my hair, it was the perfect color and shade of red. The cut is very easy for me to manage and style. I enjoyed the experience and talking with Ashley. She was very personable and totally focused on making sure I got the perfect outcome I was looking for.
I will be going back to Ashley from now on!

Erika, thanks. You made me so happy; I could write you a haiku. I'll stick to a review for now--I came out of a few (and by a few I mean 6) bad haircuts in the span of 7 months, all in attempt to fix the previous cut. Erika was my last try. I had never been to her before. I was nervous. I knew if I ("she", I should say) didn't get it right this time, I was gonna have to tough it out and just grow it out.  When I arrived to my appointment, I still had no idea what direction I wanted to go w/my hair. I thought that might be a problem. I let Erika know, "At this point I just want something that looks good.. . help me (*tear*)" I needed not say more. Erika came to the rescue.  I left with a smile on my face and a flattering cut. I got a compliment 3 min. after I left. I love it. my boyfriend loves it. I heart Erika.

I finally grew out from a particularly icky haircut at Helmet.  My fault entirely--I chose a junior stylist and gave her carte blanche to cut my hair from mid length to short.  I think I must have shocked her with too much freedom because she took way too long (2 hours!) to cut my hair.  Her  lack of confidence while cutting gave me a serious case of the doubts.

Results were bad (hubby said something about how I looked like a circa 1990 record store girl).

Choose your Helmet stylist carefully Yelpers!

Pay the money for the stylist who is experienced and will cut your hair to fit and flatter your face rather than giving your the cookie cutter record-store-girl-haircut she felt secure enough to do.

My hair has mostly recovered--Thank you to hair rockstar Oneal at Van Michaels in the highlands!

Ask for Zach - he is awesome! This is the second time I have had my hair cut by Zach. He does an excellent job. I am test driving my hair tonight and I am sure I will get lots of compliments! I have been in stylist limbo for the past two years since my long-term stylist moved. It is great to finally have somebody to see regularly. He charges $40 per cut.

Helmet is a great salon. It's not frantic like most salons. The hair washing area is like a mediation room- quiet with candles.

The staff are always fast and courteous with the checkout and appointment making. Enjoy!

I am sorry to admit that I have never been one to keep up with my hair on a regular basis.  I usually break down and make an appointment when friends start commenting on my roots showing--but since up until three weeks ago I lived nearly an hour away from Atlanta (where most of my friends had located to nearly a year before), let's just say that not many people saw the horrors of my unkempt highlights.

I saw Helmet was highly rated on this website and very close to me (less than two miles), so I decided to give it a shot.  When I called, the very polite receptionist asked me a series of questions trying to determine who was best suited for me--is your hair long or short?  Curly or wavy?  Are you a different ethnicity?  What do you want done?

He finally told me that he had the perfect person:  Deborah.  I showed up on a Saturday and only waited about 6 minutes before Deborah came out, all smiles and wonderfully welcoming.  She said she's worked there for about 4 years, and it showed in her professionalism and knowledge.  I am terribly indecisive when it comes to my hair, and I get bored very easily.  I told her that I would like some red in my hair, but asked if she thought it was a good idea.  She told me that she liked the idea and thought we should keep it subtle, but could always go back and make them thicker if that was what I wanted the next time around.  I took her advice, and she worked efficiently while making conversation the entire time.

When it came time to wash the color out, I have to say that it was one of the most heavenly salon experiences ever.  She not only massaged my scalp with just the right amount of pressure, but also added a conditioning therapy that she explained contained, among other things, sunflower oil to make hair shiny.  I nearly fell asleep in my chair.

When she asked what I wanted with the cut, I told her to do whatever she wanted as long as she limited herself to cutting only about two inches off the length.  She told me her ideas and asked before she lifted her scissors, which I liked, and ended up giving me layers that not only looked good with my face shape, but also made my hair feel fantastically lighter.  It was definitely the perfect cut.  She also gave me tips for doing my hair when I asked what I could do besides wear it down or throw it in a hasty ponytail.

All in all, I thought the experience was wonderful.  The only reason I give it four stars is because of the price--it's a little higher than I'm used to--but I have to say, I liked everything enough to spend that much again.

I had a botched dye job and couldn't bear to leave town for 2 weeks without getting it fixed. I called Helmet after reading their reviews and seeing they were one of the few reputable salons open on Monday. I have very short hair and have only had one person successfully cut it for the last 5 years so I was very nervous.

When I called and explained the problem they recommended Emily who had an opening in an hour or two from my call. She listened to what I didn't like a came up with a solution to make it better. She dyed my hair to get rid of the brassiness and gave me a few highlights (which my previous stylist had said wasn't possible because my hair was so short). She also texturized my hair and gave it the look I didn't even know it was missing.

I was really happy with the results and continue to go back to her.

I'm moving out of Atlanta to Florida (boo) in a week, and one of the things I'm going to miss is getting my hair cut and styled by Marianne C. at Helmet.  Two years in Midtown and I had yet to find The One to cut my hair.  I am Filipino, with very straight, Japanimation-like hair that grows like grass in the summer.  In other words, a pain in the butt to cut.  I try to be unique, and though I don't cry for attention, my hair gets attention. It's not crazy, just spiky, jet black, and has defined a recognizable silhouette.

If only you knew the painful journey I've been on in my transition from awful Cheapo-Cuts to legit and well-trained 'artists.'  Then, I found Marianne C.  She was new to ATL from New York  at the time, but after that first cut, I knew I had found The One.  Oh, she was wonderful.  Very easy to talk to, a great sense of humor, and an adorable laugh.  I've come to be a regular, getting a cut every 3-4 weeks.  I let her be creative, and ask her to do whatever she wants.  She never ceases to amaze me with her skills and vision.  Since I've been going to her, I've received random compliments from strangers frequently.  My girlfriend gets her hair cut by Marianne too, and feels the same way I do.

From what I've said, you may think I'm secretly in love, but seriously, I would fly back up or pay to fly Marianne to wherever I am to cut my hair.   Maybe some day...

I go to CJ Jackson the nail tech at Helmet Midtown for my mani/pedi. She introduced me to BioSculpture Gel Nails. It's a European product that is now found in the States. I've tried other gel products before which equated to lots of filing, frequent fill in trips and thicker looking nails. WELL LO and BEHOLD, this product is the TOTAL OPPOSITE! Takes 10 minutes with no filing and your nail color is COMPLETELY DRY! CJ is very skilled in the application so your hands look and feel like butter! Plus no more worries about 'thinking' your nails are dry so you reach to get your keys and OOPS, now you have messed up your perfect mani. YOU MUST SEE CJ TO TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!

I highly recommend stylist MAUREEN LYNCH at Helmet.

Per usual, I waited until the last minute to schedule a hair appointment for a wedding I'm attending this Friday.  I was already 2+ months overdue for a cut and highlights, so I was desperate to get in anywhere and get something done.

I took a chance on a "junior stylist" at the highly-rated Helmet salon in Midtown.  How could I pass up $95 cut/color with online booking?  I chose Maureen mostly because I'm a big fan of Aveda (she attended the Aveda Institute) and I liked the style of her hair.

As someone who has had mostly $200+ cuts/color for the last decade at some of the "best" salons in Atlanta (mostly Buckhead)... I'm blown away by how well she did.  Color is perfect, exactly what I wanted and described.  Cut is fabulous, too.  Classic AND stylish, plus flattering to my face and skintone.

So, A+++, Maureen.  My expectations may have been (relatively) low, but you blew away many stylists I've experienced who had 15+ years in the biz.  Helmet itself is very convenient, ample parking, friendly and professional staff, good atmosphere.  I will definitely return.

I think there are two types of people in this world: those that go up to an artist, ask for a commissioned painting of say, a landscape, and tell them exactly where to place each tree, snowflake, and dollop of sunshine. And then there are those who tell Bob Ross to paint whatever he's feeling, cause he's the artist, and they trust him. I'm definitely the latter. Yeah, even when it comes to the hair on my head.

I like being different, so I have a hard time walking in to a salon and saying I want so-and so's cut with so-and-so's color. Boo on that. Instead, I say things like "I want a flattering cut" and "I want some color that makes people think I'm a wee bit batshit crazy." Then I expect the stylist to get their creative juices flowing to come up with something really amazing that's custom made for me: something that works with my hair texture, my face shape, my coloring. Claybourne, my stylist in DC, knew exactly how to do this, all with incredible results. And, oh, how I loved her for it.

So after reading the rave reviews here I made an appointment with Melanie. She's a super senior stylist so I was expecting the same level of creativity and ability to really put something fun and special together. The minute I sat down in her chair, I felt uneasy. I can't put my finger on it, but we just didn't jive. Which is fine, I don't get along with everyone: no one does. But it just got worse. While I appreciate her thoroughness in asking exactly what I wanted, she made me feel ashamed that I didn't have an exact "vision" and I sensed some serious disdain in her tone. As if I was really putting her out to come up with something new. After quite a long time of going back and forth between us, her asking me (in a slightly belittling way) if was *sure* I wanted to do a bright color, asking me why my hair was *sooo* dry in the same way your dental hygienist asks if you floss, and the like, we had finally arrived on something I was kind of excited about. Yay.

The rest of my experience at Helmet was kind of lackluster. Bad music (ugh. I heard that horrendous Lady Gaga song TWICE. I'm pretty sure my ears were bleeding), some water and tea around the corner that was self-serve, and some picky service issues like not telling me that I'd be sitting in the sink-chair for 15 minutes while my color set in a rather uncomfortable position.

Melanie was extremely detail oriented in the cut, which I appreciated. I like the final look okay, but I definitely didn't walk out of the salon with that great boost of confidence that I look forward to when I get my hair done. And for $195 +tip, I want that feeling!

I'd recommend Melanie for those who know exactly what they want, as Melanie is certainly a skilled stylist. She's just not for me.

I'm off to find a super cheap ticket to DC for 3 months from now....

After weeks of being crazy busy with work and life, I woke up one Sunday morning and realized that I was in desperate need of a haircut. After living in Atlanta for almost three years, I still didn't have a regular stylist or even a place that could do in a pinch. I checked out Yelp and realized most places were closed on Sundays, but not Helmet, plus they had an afternoon appointment.
The location is great with three parking spaces out front, but it's within walking distance of my apartment and the park (So after you get your fabulous haircut, show it off by strolling around piedmont park!). The salon is upscale but not too trendy or pretentious. The front staff was helpful and they had coffee and tea.

My stylist was Emily, who was extremely helpful. Emily listened to my concerns, asked questions and suggested a few things. I felt completely confident that Emily knew what I did and did not want. In fact, my hair looks AMAZING! I've received so many compliments on it, that I'll be back to see Emily.

Since I lost Zip n' Clip, I've been on the search for a new place to get my hair cut.  I decided (after a couple of bad haircuts) that maybe spending a little extra money was a good idea.  So I got my hair all cut off at Grow, but then as it grew out, I had a problem.  My hair just started getting frizzy and humongous.  I randomly decided on Helmet to help me stop looking like a crazy person and also randomly got Wendy (she's new!).

I definitely lucked out.  Wendy is awesome.  Infinitely so.  She was great to talk to and gave me a great cut that looks so much better than before.  I never put time into my hair, so I definitely appreciate a cut that can deal with being in a bike helmet for a few hours a day.

I went to Helmet for three reasons. 1) the location couldn't be any better. If you live in VaHi, Poncey Highlands or Midtown, Helmet is in your backyard. 2) the old house is very inviting. I popped in to make my appointment and loved the vibe inside instantly. 3) they have a Jr. ("new talent") stylist which fit within my budget.

I had my appt. last Sunday and I was literally the only person there. Myself, the receptionist, and Sara (the stylist) were it. It was like my own personal beauty palace. Sara spent a lot of time with me (it was my first time there) and took extra-special care of my highlights. When they came out too light during the rinsing process, she took the time to tone them down and get them exactly how I wanted. After the color I had a haircut. I was a bit nervous during--it looked like Sara had cut my bangs WAAY too short--but once she was done blow-drying my hair I loved 'em. She also took the time to show me how they'd grow out (she could see I was apprehensive) and assured me I'd love them in a hour or so. Sure enough, she was right.

I love my new haircut and color from Helmet. If you're looking for a change or suddenly find your current salon charges too much, come to Helmet and ask for Sara. You'll love it!

Ever since that fateful day 4 years ago when my favorite stylist disappeared off the face of the planet  with absolutely no notice, I have been searching for another stylist who can cut naturally curly hair. And not only just cut it but make it fun and interesting. I have hopped from one place to another spending a lot of money and being as unimpressed and bored as the last cut. Until....UNTIL! I found Erika at Helmet.

She rocks the freaking casbah with curly hair and color! Many years in the past, I had an awesome short "do" and for some reason I decided to grow it out (girls, why do we do that?). Anyway, I went to Erika once and told her I was really bored with my hair and instead of placating me she just said "yeah, it is kind of boring...just kind of vanilla" while some of you might be saying "Ooohhh, no she didn't", I thought it was refreshing to have someone be honest. My hair was boring for crying out loud.

So the first cut we just made it a trim with the promise that the next time we were going to take the plunge and do something drastic. I walked in for my cut and color on my 2nd appointment and she got really excited about what we were going to do and I am proud to say that I have my short curly hair back and she gave me low lights which added even more interest and contrast to the cut. She can do it all!

For weeks after my cut, I walked around telling people "Look at my hair, isn't it freaking adorable?" and I'm not usually that narcissistic! But it WAS, it was that cute! It's grown super fast so it is only half as cute at this very moment which means its time to go back to Erika.

In conclusion, my search is over! I have found my new curly girl! WOO HOO! No more wasted time or wasted money. All I can see in my future are cute hair cuts and fun experiences. Erika is the best!

Just moved to Atlanta, found this place through this website. Went for a cut and color. Love my hair...just told the stylist I wanted about 3 inches off of my already really long hair and some caramel highlights. She gave me a great style and worked in lowlights and highlights to make the color look best.
Midtown salon has a great vibe...it's basically set in an old house and you can get your hair done while watching people walk by on the street. Chic and college-y at the same time, while staying classy. Will definitely return.

And yes they do Black hair for those that may be wondering. lol

I have been looking for a stylist that is "the One" my whole life, and I found her... at Helmet... in walking distance of my place! Fate! Although I've heard all of the people that work there are incredible, I can only speak for Nicole. Whenever I leave tis salon, I cannot stop touching my hair, strangers comment on it at Kroger (not my constant hair-stroking, but the actual hair itself), and babies in strollers stare in wonderment. After just two visits with Nicole, my hair is much healthier, and there is much less visible breakage. I used to have dried out, straight-off-the-beach (which would be cool if I didn't live in the middle of a landlocked city), brassy hair with these 1 inch long "bangs" (after a slip-up with self-trimming during a bus ride in middle school followed by years of highlighting and straightening, they never quite recovered). Now, I am proud to say my former 1 inch fringe is now over 3.5 inches long! Whatever products Nicole uses are incredible, too. I'll never go anywhere else.

The salon itself is in an old house on Piedmont right before the 10th St. intersection. The inside is beautifully done, and the hair-washing chairs are the most comfortable I've ever been in (no terrible neck pains, and there's even a footrest). The prices are reasonable (I spend just under $200 on cut, full highlights, blow out, and tip), and the service is great. Their hours are very flexible, the receptionists at the front desk are friendly and professional, and I've never waited more than 5 minutes for my appointment. They're also one of the only metro Atlanta salons open on Sundays and Mondays. All of my friends and family members that I've sent here still thank me profusely!!! Go here!!!!

Pricier than I like, but haircuts are the kind of thing that really do get better when you spend more money.

I've had the same haircut essentially since I've had hair, but recently decided to go different and give a good hairdresser full creative license. She went short with me and gave me bangs, but it totally works and I love it! My stylist seemed to have a great understanding of hair (I have lots and lots of extremely fine hair which can be tricky), everyone there seemed to be experienced (many years of hair chopping = yes please), and the salon has a beautiful atmosphere.

Overall, I was very happy with my experience, and I'll be back for sure!

I spotted a girl one day with the COOLEST hair I had ever seen.  It was shoulder length with bangs and some graffiti-esque highlights.  I am not cool enough to pull that kind of "do" off, but I know a good cut when I see it.  The girl directed me to Erika at Helmet in Midtown.  I immediately felt comfortable with her.  She has a great personality and is someone who needs very little direction, although she will take it if you want to give it to her.  Many times hair stylists think a "cool" cut means whacking off your hair and dying it crazy colors.  Sure Erika can do that, but that's not her only trick.  She's well rounded and adjusts her style to your personality and preference.  I have long straight hair that is very flat and plain.  She was able to pump my style without completely altering the general look that I am confortable with.

I have been looking for a hair stylists for YEARS.  I had one way back in the day that I just grew tired of and have tried a few different stylists since then.  But not until Erika did I start getting compliements on my hair again.  She's great!

i loathe finding a new stylist as it makes me feel, for whatever reason, a bit whoreish (am i alone in this?). anyhow, after my last cut/color (at another salon) didnt go so well, i went to melanie, helpless, hapless, and with an overgrown mess atop of my head.

melanie is amazing and no-nonsense when it comes to cutting a head of hair. she took the time to really, really throughly analyze what what currenly atop of my head and what needed to be done (and for this im so grateful). she explained her method as to what she was going to do (and while she was doing it) and it came out beautifully.

my hair is once again enviable instead of a mess. see this HBIC (but dont take my appointment slot, please!)

Melanie Bell, at Helmet Midtown, is the best stylist I have had!   I am moving next month but it looks like I will have to come visit Atlanta often to get my hair colored and cut.  Melanie is super detail oriented, making sure that your hair cut will suit you.  I tend to go for the modern, stylized look and she always nails it.

It is not easy to color Asian hair so I am so glad that I have found her to do so!

Do I dare give away the secret of the single best blond-highlighter in all of ATL?  Yes, Tim at Helmet in Midtown.  I am super picky about blonde highlights-- can't be too chunky, too stripey, too blond, too many colors, too much one color, the list goes on.  But Tim gets it just right-- extremely fine highlights and lowlights that brighten up my hair without giving it the rainbow effect.  It took me 3 years and many ATL salons to find Tim, but I am so happy I did.  The highlights aren't cheap, but are less than Van Michael's and other status salons.

Also, I strongly prefer to have a stylist who does both cut and color, which Tim does.  How will you ensure that I look fabulous if you are not overseeing the process from start to finish?  His precision cuts are great and are worth every penny if you have a sure enough "hair style."  If you have long hair with no layers, maybe you can get away with a cheaper cut.

I hate moving to a new city and finding everything all over again...dentist, ob/gyn, hair colorist.  But after a ton of research (I was advised to go to Van Michaels), and checking with Yelpers, I tried Helmet, and I cannot ask for better results than I get from Nicole.  She's creative, dead-on, and extremely picky and meticulous - exactly what I want in a colorist.  She also knows how to shampoo a girl's hair!!

I wanted to update my review because I've had COLOR now :-) It looks awesome. I love it!! It was a last-minute decision when I was in for a cut and Melanie had a cancellation. I did a moisturizing gloss to cover my gray popping in (EEK) and the fact that my hair is long and the bottom is lighter than the top/new growth. I'm looking forward to going back for a re-do in a few weeks. This is the best my hair has looked-ever. Melanie does it again! :-)

Thanks to David K for his review. Because of his writing I went to Helmet and let Som cut my hair. I was not able to wait for my regular appt next weekend at the Wright Touch and I gave into temptation. I figured if it came out bad I could blame David K who I do not know officially yet although I think we have mutual contacts.Anyway, It came out great.  I decided to go shorter and since we both dont like Scissor lines I was even more satisfied. I am not  exactly sure how to explain to my regular guy how my hair suddenly became shorter than it was 3 weeks earlier but I'll come up with something and I might actually consider cheating again.

My first experience here was lackluster, but after hearing positive reviews from other friends I decided to give it another shot.

The second time around was a much more positive experience. The recommended stylist (Rexx) was professional, knowledgeable and gave me a solid haircut. He also provided me a few tips on how best to handle my hair.

Based on my last experience I would definitely feel comfortable recommending this salon.

I have to say I went to Helmet based on the great reviews here - and was very disappointed with the result. I am mixed with curly hair, and asked for a blow-out/straighten job. The products and tools she used just didn't do the job, even though I asked her specifically if she was familiar and comfortable with my hair type. My hair was a frizzy mess 10 minutes after leaving the salon, turning my $50 payment a complete waste. Perhaps I just got a stylist on a bad day, but I won't be going back.

I had seen a total of 5 stylists in Atlanta before I found Emily at Helmet in Midtown.  After my first appointment with Emily I immediately made an appointment for my boyfriend and referred all my friends to her.  Emily is a very talented and conscientious stylist.  What I like best about her is that she actually listens to what I want and tells me everything she is going to do before she touches my hair so there are no surprises.  I highly recommend Emily to you if you are (like me) really picky about your hair and looking for a stylist who is a dedicated perfectionist.  Here are photos of my favorite haircut from Emily: http://www.flickr.com/...

I always have a hard time finding someone who can cut curly hair and make it look fantastic.  Erika cuts my hair and does an awesome job with curls.  So for anyone with hard to cut curls, Erika is your girl.

Good location for me (Midtown), great atmosphere, nice people.  I gave free reign to cut and I wasn't blown away with what I got, though.  It was definitely good, quality work, just not impressive.  Admittedly, I have a tough head of hair to work with.  I'll go back, but I'm reserving a 5 star for whenever I get seriously impressed.

Went in for my first appt with Adrienne this past Saturday. She is really friendly and truly listened to what I wanted. She asked wonderful questions and provided me with great feedback.  I am really happy with my color and cut. Red is not easy to get right and she did a terrific job.

So apparently, My fabulous "white Boy" that used to work at James Madison Salon is now at Helmet. Rexx is amazing. I sat in his chair for the first time and without  any directions other than "cut it and give me something edgy" he gave me an amazing cut. I have natural black hair (also know as nappy!), Rex knows what he is doing if he can cut my hair.
