I found hedy through yelp and I felt that I was in good hands. She remove my blackhead and whiteheads and what nots, and without much pain. ( i have been to some that is extemely painful)

I liked the way she was massaging my face and overall how she was very encouraging and positive about life in general. I did feel better after the whole experience.

She is pushy about products and services, so I found that part a tad annoying .

Overall, I will come back again.

Hedy is quite amazing. I would definitely recommend her facials & eyebrow wax. She knew exactly how to clear out my skin and made me feel better about my face than I have in a long time. She's kind and is very skilled.

The good:
-great facial
-great looking eyebrow waxing, and not too painful
-skilled
-products are high end, she only uses the best
-she understands your skin and knows exactly how to make it better
-explains everything before she does it
-she is very warm and comforting

The downsides:
-sometimes Hedy would leave the room for a number of minutes, and I wouldn't know what was going on.
-she left the door open when she was doing the facial, and everytime another customer came in, she would go out to help her other estetician help them find the right product or book an appointment.
-she is a bit pushy with selling her products. I wanted the basic pack, but she kept throwing more and more on, things she said were necessary.
-pricey

I know this place has a gazillion 5 stars (which is how I originally found it) but I really wasn't too pleased when I went for my appointment (months & months ago now).  I went in for a brazilian wax and holy hannah, it was the most painful waxing experience of my life!!  Hedy tried to be gentle, I know, but she seemed to pull out the hair much more slowly than I'm use to!!  Additionally, I remember being there for a looong time (probably over an hour).  The thing I hated the most was - she frequently pointed out how imperfect my skin was and she must have said at least twice "oohh, you have hair THERE?!  I'm going to have to charge extra for that".  Bah, to quote Stephanie from Full House - "how rude!"  Seriously, I'm already baring to you - I just want to hear supportive things when you're ripping hair out of me!  All in all, I spent around $120 for the wax and for a $30 product to help me with my "troubled skin".  It seemed a little steep to me.

I have been going to see Hedy for the last 4 months and she is amazing. I have only had facials, but she gets down and does the nitty gritty. She analyzes your skin and does what is best for it. She really knows her stuff and obviously has excellent training. The products she uses are good, though a little on the pricy side. Although I have to say that I have noticed a big change in my skin since using them...you do only have one face!

I found this place through Yelp and am so glad that I did.  Hedy is the most knowledgable person I've met on the subject of skin and nail care.  She is a licensed esthetician who has studied in Japan, New York, and all around Europe.  I got a bikini wax ($30 for regular and $50 for Brazilian) and she was extremely helpful with any off-the-top-of-my-head questions I had on day-to-day skin care or recommendations for creams and salves I didn't even know existed.  She was very comforting and kept up a lovely chat while I received a usually dreaded procedure.  Alhough, with Hedy I felt far less pain and got the best waxing I've ever received.  Besides waxing, she offers microdermabrasion, general skin care, body wraps, pedicures, reflexology, massage, lash curl, tints and more.

Double thumbs up!

UPDATE:
Hedy's goes down three stars in my review for various reasons:

1 - I always end up waiting for 10-15minutes after my scheduled appointment was to begin. This is due to Hedy running over with each and every client she had before me. Attention to detail is one thing, b ut I didn't appreciate being told it was always the previous client's fault for coming in late. If a client comes in late, cut their appointment by that time, don't make me sit and wait (and consequently late for something else) because of it.

2 - I agree with other patrons. Hedy is a heavy pusher of product and services you may not want or need. The kicker is they aren't cheap either. Her prices are steep enough that I don't need to add on $60+ "goodies" at the end of a treatment.

3 - The last waxing I went in for left me broken out with pimples all over my forehead. Hedy had acknowledged using a different wax on that area and I suspect she knew something was up when she called a week later to ask if I had a reaction. Unfortunately, I didn't talk to her live about it as she had left a voicemail. When I called her back to discuss that yes, in fact I had broken out worse than I had ever been since puberty (and it wasn't even bad back then), she never called back.

Very suspicious.

There are cheaper, more genuine places out there. For me, this just confirms that I just need to go for laser hair removal and not deal with bad waxings.

I won't be back.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +

I just had an appointment today with Hedy based upon the raving reviews here and I have to agree, she's good!! She's very knowledgeable and even-paced in her work, taking the time to thoroughly complete and clean.

Her services are pricey compared to other places, but worth it. When you have a waxing service done, you want someone who takes their time, knows what they are doing and can work in a way that's comforting and relatively painfree.

Thanks to Yelp, I found Hedy's and she's awesome! She always takes the time to study your skin condition & was very gentle but effective in my skin treatment! I got a micro-dermabrasion, bought some products which were expensive, and saw results within the next few weeks. The skin on my forehead totally cleared up. I highly recommend Hedy's to anyone who's serious about taking care of their skin.

I went to this place for a leg wax and my first ever bikini wax.  The leg wax was one of my least painful ever - she's very professional and very very fast (which is key to making it seem less painful in my opinion).  The bikini wax still hurt but she actually taught me some techniques (kinda like lamaze actually) for dealing with it.  All in all the best wax experiences I've had around here and I've tried many places. Not too cheap though.

Hedy is the queen of waxing!  I was reccomended by a true Hanny follower (her sister who sold the shop to Hedy).  Over the past five years I received wonderful service from Hanny.  Now that Hedy has taken it over, I wish I would have begun making appointments with her sooner.  This woman is talkative and calm.  She is very informative and services to your skin/hair needs.  She does not use "mass market" methods.  You want to be faithful and loyal to this woman.  She takes pride in her work and always gives you what you came for.  You want something to make your man's eyes widen?  Hedy will deliver!

I found Hedy on yelp and based on all the reviews i decided to finally go for the wax, er, there, (just bikini b/c i'm too chicken sh*t for the foreign stuff....)
It was relatively easy for to get there, but the salon is small and located on a major PA through way by the light rail.  Parking wasn't that easy on the street, but i found a space on the street.  I did see a lot, but am not sure if that is open to the public.
Needless to say i was a little nervous, but Hedy is friendly and warm, reminded me of my friend's aunt - not in a strange way or anything - but in that way you can really talk about anything, and it's important to have someone you are comfortable with when engaging in such personalized services such as facials, massage or waxing.
only minus 1/2 star (1/2 minus later) b/c right before we were getting started she answered the phone, not a bad thing in it of itself, but kinda awkward when you are nervous and semi nekkid.
the wax itself was fine - she was quick and it was as painless (as it could be!) and i think she double dipped, (also 1/2 star down) fine - if i am the only client for that day.... but so far, everything is ok.  We talked about a variety of things, which was good b/c it certainly diverted my attention.  Hedy uses the blue wax w/out strips that is more gentle on the skin.
so overall, a good experience, i would recommend to a friend to go.   At the end she gave me some tips on what to do and some cream stuff to take with me that helped in a major way.  oh, and i think the prices have gone up b/c it's $50 for a bikini and i think she said $70 for brazilian...?

Update: 7/2007

Ok, so i veered and i went to another place and boy do i regret it!  The other person was nice but not as meticulous as Hedy.  Going back to Hedy's next time and upgraded to 4 stars now that i have a reference point to rate by.

Absolutely the BEST facial by Hedy.  Hanny was taught microdermabrasion and skin care in London and Germany - she is amazing.  Well worth the drive down to Palo Alto.  I've tried to find someone comparable in San Francisco, but I haven't succeeded yet.  It's now called Hedy's Skin Care - she has taken over full-time for Hanny.  Everytime I leave, I cannot believe how clear my skin is!
