Back before it was called Gilroy Gardens.

Back before it was called Bonfante Gardens when I worked there one summer.

This place was called Hecker Pass-A Family Adventure

I went there a couple times back then for my parent's summer company picnics.

Free food, mostly BBQ and green stuff.  Clown balloons and face painting.  Some small ghetto carnival games.  A train ride around the park.  And the most fun was spending like 1-2 hours in their pool.  Not sure if that pool still exists.

But yeah, this was a 2-star company picnic location.  I had more fun when my parents had their company picnics at Great America, Raging Waters, and even Blackberry Farm and some random picnic location on some road off in the cuts on the drive to Santa Cruz.

Hecker Pass is a cool little stretch of wineries between Gilroy and Salinas Valley. It's a great place to go if you're from the South Bay and just want to get out of town and do some wine tasting but don't want to go all the way up to Napa. One of the best things about it is that the wineries all offer either free of very low cost wine tasting (at most $5!!) and they're all very small, family-run operations. I'd love to go back some day and just do some inexpensive wine tasting with friends, it's just too far now that I've moved out of San Jose and live up in the City.

Excuse me? Hecker PASS is now a THEME PARK?

It sure is a BORING one if so.

Maybe they just wanted to offer something in the vicinity that is MORE BORING than Bonfante Gardens.

Just kidding, it's a wonderful family park. But Hecker Pass is just a ROAD as far as I know.

My wife and I found a dog on it one time, running right down the middle. Old guy. I'm pretty sure he wasn't going to last long that way.
We gave him a ride into town.
That was kind of adventurous. Maybe that was the theme park- Hecker Pass Dog Rescue Adventure....
