I sometimes have difficulty reconciling the ledger of my own life, I think, staring downwards into the cool autumn water of the Koi pond.

I am here, khaki-clad, sipping good coffee and having a cigarette, as an IT delegate to a strategic planning meeting.

Beneath me, fattened Koi drift an inch or two under the pond surface.   They are well loved, surfacing towards my shadow with open, gobbling mouths.   Underneath orange and gold scales, rich fishfat wobbles slowly.

Here I am again- 'My primary concern is a repeatible methodology for data integrity, pursuant to our HIPAA obligations-'  Markers skritch on whiteboards.   'The key to obtaining a robust sales process will be successful implementation of SQL 2008 R2 Business Intelligence capabilities-'

A pale Koi, exactly the color of a single cloud in a June sky, flicks her tail.

Once I had a tooth knocked out in Chicago, trying to score dope.

Once I blew a bonus check on blow and strippers and tepanyaki with Japanese IT dudes in a grim LA suburb.

Once I said, 'I'll love you forever,' at the Chinese Classical Gardens in Phoenix.

I comment.  I critique.  I discuss.  Keys tap on laptops.   There is a delicious lunch buffet- thin slices of high-grade roast beef, that I perch delicately on swirled rye with a fresh pickles.   Black clad service stands smiling as I scoop the red-potato salad onto china.

'- guarantee the security of the clinical research database environment, via software package audit, to be conducted in Q3-'

A woman unbuttoning her pants in a half-lit bedroom, long muscles rippling under tan.

'-associate and report to the executive level a combination of real-time performance indicators-'

Tears, a letter, signed by my father, 'Your Father,' 28 days of frisbee golf.

The net result is black or red, I wonder, and stump out my cigarette.

Time to get back to the afternoon session.   That inner ledger remains unbalanced, a column of moments.

The provided white-chocolate chip cookies were amazing.

So what's Heathman Lodge doing in the middle of the Vancouver Mall area?  It's a real lodge!  So strange.  But I'm glad it's here.  Great place to hang out (I didn't get a room but did eat at the bar).  They have wine by the glass, great bloody Marys and Widmer beer.  Plus free wi-fi.  And the atmosphere is so un-Vancouver.  Strange but pleasant.

The restaurant menu is pretty expensive, with entrees going up to $28, but the bar and grill have tapas like things for $5 after 4.  That's where I'm hanging out.

Great hotel for $99 a night.  Amazing beds - nice furnishings.  Good breakfast and happy hour freebies.  Amazing decor.  Just an odd location is only drawback.  Service was outstanding.

This was my first stay at the Heathman Lodge - It is really cute - very "woodsy and manly man like". The staff is GREAT! SO FRIENDLY & HELPFUL. Love that you feel "a part of nature" here but have all the comforts of an exclusive lodge. It was so cozy!

We were here for a party in the evening but our party (with my BF) started around 4pm in the bar... HAPPY HOUR at the Hudson Grill! WOO-HOO!

And boy was it HAPPY! Our bartender was fantastic - we were STARVING and she recommended the Salmon Sliders and Pulled Pork Sliders which we split. She also served us some "grown up lemonade" and at that point, I was in HEAVEN! While we waited for our food, she brought us some Corn Chowder and Bread with Dipping Sauce. WOW!!! I could drink that dipping sauce!!! BTW: Make sure and order the Salmon Sliders, TDF!!! I didn't want to leave the bar and get ready for the party - ABSOLUTELY AWESOME FOOD, DRINK & SERVICE!

Went back up to the room, passed out, then got ready for the party. Hated the Temper-pedic bed but don't know if that's because I was drunk or if I just didn't like "the feel" of it... The room was fantastic though. Spacious with lots of extra amenities. I could stay here very comfortably for a week and that's saying a lot because unless a hotel is "lux", I want to go home.

Finally got downstairs to the dinner and it was great as well. More wonderful food and drink. The room and amenities that they provided for the party was great as well as the staff that helped. I would not think twice about having a function of any sort here. We continued back to the bar for a nightcap and finally headed back upstairs around 12:30 or 1 AM. What a great night!...

Too bad we had to leave at 6:00 am to catch our flight... I heard the complimentary breakfast is fantastic. I will definitely have to come back here for business and/or pleasure. FANTASTIC time!

Monty Python's Lumberjack Song is probably one of my favorites from the entire series. It's almost cliché now... but there's something about the whole setup of a demented barber who'd rather be chopping the forests in British Columbia than his clients' hair cracks me up every time.

I'm sure part of it is because I kind of like the romanticized "Northwesty" mindset.  Having a lifestyle that surrounds spots that are really warm and inviting, especially during the dark rainy winter months is a must. Add a big cup of coffee, a fire, and some good music and I pretty much couldn't ask for anything more.

I've never stayed at the Heathman, but hit it up for dinner with family a few times a year.  It's a big "log cabin" themed hotel and restaurant located by Vancouver Mall, though really it seems like the type of place that would be better situated out in the Columbia River Gorge.  It almost seems too kitschy here.

The food centers around in season poultry, meat, and seafood with local produce complementing each dish. I've yet to find buttered scones for tea, but one can always hope.  They have a great wine selection and a nice bar run by a knowledgeable staff.  The high ceilings, tapestries, and heavy timber allude to a snowy forest landscape right outside (even if it's the middle of summer) and make you just want to sink into the large boots to prep for hibernation.

I've always had a great experience here, but what I wouldn't give to see some disgruntled mounties... just once.

I stayed here for a training workshop this week which was held at the lodge.  My stay was very comfortable and the service was great.  Rooms were spacious and in the lodge theme.  They were cleaned almost immediately after I left for the class in the morning.  Free internet, memory foam bed and a leather couch in the room.  I took advantage of their little gym, which was two ellipticals, two treadmills and two machines while I was there and I had it all too myself.  Their food was great too.  Very tasty like you would find at the high end restaurants.  I believe it was provided out of the Hudson's Bar and Grill which is part of the lodge.  All in all, for a little over a $100, you get a nice quite place to stay with great service and amenities and they are located very close to the Vancouver mall.  I would stay here again if I was in town for another training opportunity.

Wow, this hotel is a real gem.  It's a Northwest lodge-type hotel in Vancouver with large rooms, Tempur-pedic beds, a beautiful lobby, and a great restaurant.  All the rooms have microwaves and small refrigerators.  If this hotel were in Portland, it would easily be $250-300/night, but because it is in Vancouver, it was only $102/night (AAA rate) and that included a complimentary continental breakfast or $3 off each breakfast entree at the Hudson Grill (the hotel restaurant).  Even though it is not far from a Westfield Shoppingtown, it is surrounded by trees, so you feel as if you're in the woods.  Absolutely gorgeous.  And the service was great.  We ended up staying a second night because we loved it so much!

I stayed her one night as I was in the area on business and it was a pleasant surprise.  It is in a great location and the food in Hudson Grill was good.  The general manager was also very nice.  I would make a point to stay here again.
