Beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly located. What more could you want? Troy and the rest of the staff are awesome.

I had one of the best nights of sleep of my ENTIRE life at this hotel. The bed was wonderful (you can choose three types of beds, 5 types of pillows..heavenly!), room service divine and all in all, a great experience.
The bar downstairs has a nice seating area for cocktails or coffee. The restaurant service was good, food superb, and staff friendly.
The rooms were roomy, furnished well, came with a coffee press, peets coffee and some aromatic loose leaf tea. The toiletries are L'oocitane, which I enjoyed very much.
To top it off, the door man is dressed in some time warp of an outfit that resembles a court jester. Hey, how can you be in a bad mood when a jester is greeting you?!

Paul and I had quite a nice stay at the Heathman. The rooms were quite nice, we had a king bed which was fantastic. I thought that the mattress was way too hard, but Paul loved it. They had a card in the room that said there were actually three different types of mattresses you could get and that you should talk to the front desk about choosing. I wish someone would have mentioned that when we checked in, I would have preferred a softer mattress!
The bathrooms were a bit too small with almost no counter space. That was annoying but they did stock the bathroom on a daily basis with soaps and lotions from L'Occitane. Woo hoo to that! The water pressure was great though and having super hot water was a very good thing considering how cold it was when we were in town.
Parking was steep, $29 a day, valet only but it was unlimited in and out anytime of the day which was great. Internet was FREE!!!!!!!! Awesome bonus! The staff couldn't have been any nicer in fact, one night when we returned from dinner for some odd reason our entire room reeked of smoke. It was so gross, suffocating almost. Someone came up right away and moved us to a different room. That was great, especially considering the heat didn't work all that great in the first room. It worked fine in the second room although the TV didn't come in that great in the second room and one of the lamps were broken.
Hmmm, now that I am writing this, I am thinking....geez, should it be 3 stars? Broken lamps, TV that doesn't come in, heat that doesn't work, too hard mattress, $29 a day parking? All of that doesn't equal up to four stars, right?
Well, here is what does: great location, more than accommodating staff, free internet, king sized bed, very clean rooms, and here is the best part: $152 a night for a king sized bed with a AAA discount!!!!
I would recommend this hotel to our friends/family but mention the mattress to them and have them make sure they check for broken items prior to renting the room! LOL! For that price and location, I suppose you can deal with a few mishaps.

The undisputed top hotel for service, sophistication and dining. The Heathman is smack in the middle of downtown Portland, two blocks from Pioneer Square, and the only choice for many world weary travelers to this progressive and friendly northwest city. [This is also home to the exceptional Heathman Restaurant, a popular and stylish dining destination for power breakfasts, business lunches and date-worthy dinners.]
The hotel, built by one of the city's prominent lumber families, is contemporary and stylish; a reflection of the city is serves. Though its been renovated several times, rooms can be on the small side, but what they don't have in square footage, they make up in warmth, comfort, service and amenities. When the still-under-construction Nine's Hotel in the former Meier and Frank building opens on the other side of Pioneer Square, the Heathman will have some tough competition. Until then, this is your place.

Who doesn't like a man dressed up in a medieval jester's uniform at the door? Nice hotel in P-TOWN, but a slight musty and ghosty vibe.

How do you work a coffee press? Oh, the instructions are right here.
What is there to do in Downtown Portland this week? Hey, here is a list right here of things going on over the next few days.
Let's relax in our room with a movie. Anything on TV? Wait, there is a list of movies in the hotel library that they can put on one of the three in-house channels.
There is restaurant with one of the best kitchens in Portland (and room service from the same kitchen). A good wine list. Well stocked mini-bar. Great beds that rival the Westin Heavenly beds with lots of pillows.
But the French press for the in room coffee is just over the top.
If you get out of the room, the hotel has a nicely stocked bar next to the very good restaurant. There is also a nice tea room with cushy couches and a grand piano that gets played on occasion. Though I have never had tea there - I prefer a Manhattan from the bar.
In addition to the nice amenities, the service is top of the line. If the desk is not too busy, the person checking you in will even escort you to the room. The daily list of local attractions left in your room even has a recipe for something yummy using local ingredients.
Some of the rooms are pretty small, actually really small. I had one room one time that when I set up the ironing board I had to climb over the bed to get to the other side of the room.
But those rooms are a minority. The regular rooms are very nice and the junior suites are great with a separate sitting area. If you stay there regularly you will will always get a nice room, and sometimes even get a follow up not in the mail from the hotel manager thanking you for your visit.
I've stayed there probably 15 or twenty times. There is one other hotel downtown that I have stayed at that I would rate higher, but it is also almost twice as expensive.

After researching endlessly for the right hotel for our 15th anniversary -we decided on Heathman, a great decision.
Where and what to start. Front desk service was superb. We arrived early and our room was not ready but the guy (I'm so sorry I forgot his name - Nate?) was extremely friendly and nice. Took our luggage and showed us a nearby map and places to go... We stepped away for lunch and shopped around...great location too, Nordstrom, Banana Republic, Tri-Met, Pioneer Square...etc. When we returned, the guy was not there but a lady was there and she was also very friendly and helpful. While she checked to see if our room was ready, we took a look around the bar/lobby - LOVE the fireplace and the beautiful chandelier. In minutes, we were approached by the lady informing us our room was ready. She took our luggage and took us along to our room and giving us some history of the hotel. I don't remember the last hotel we stayed at provided such personal service.
The room was nice - it was a bit small but still comfortable. The bed was very comfy, we requested for the feather bed and it was heaven. On the first night, we opted for the Romeo & Juliet package which came with champagne, chocolate, a rose, bath salt and candle. It was very nice and perfect for our 15th anniversary celebration. There was a chaise off to the side - perfect spot for a quick nap. The electric kettle, french press, Peet's coffee and tea are really great to have. The bathroom was very small and no fan. They do have very good toiletries - L'Occitane so that's a big plus.
Back to service - believe it or not the gentleman we met when we arrived early remembered us, not just by face but by name! I was very surprised - mind you even though it's a "boutique" hotel, there are still over 100+ rooms.
Great place, we really enjoyed ourselves and will look forward to visiting again.

I had the opportunity earlier this year to do a photo shoot and stay in the Andy Warhol suite. It was an amazing night I will not forget! I recommend that suite if you want a truly unique hotel experience! The staff was great and we ate at the restaurant and it was superb!!

Last weekend I left San Francisco to visit friends in Portland. I spent a lot of time researching boutique-style hotels and called many of them for prices. The Heathman offered me a suite with a king bed for $166 a night. What?! In SF, the Motel 6 costs more than that!
We arrived not knowing what exactly to expect, but it was great. Our room had a separate, small sitting/TV area, a great bedroom and nice bathroom with L'Occitane products. If a hotel gives you L'Occitane products - you know it's good! The also have rooms with pillow top or tempurpedic mattresses, so let them know which you prefer.
The hotel is is a very central location and the staff is helpful and friendly. Reasons for not getting 5 stars - the gym is small and the equipment is old and when checking in, there were only two people working and it took a long time. Other than that, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice, clean room in a good spot for a great price.

Staying at the Heathman was one of the highlights of my trip to Portland. We had the Symphony Suite and the bed was amazing. I am going to miss that European feather-top mattress!
The room was small for a suite but well appointed and comfortable. I loved the pocket doors that divided the sleeping area from the living area! They divided the space well without making either area feel tight.
The only downside of the suite was the bathroom. It was tiny and the water pressure in the shower sucked. But the towels were huge and fluffy and the shampoo, conditioner and soap were all from L'Occitane, so I can't complain too much!
The Heathman's service is second to none. Everyone makes sure your stay is comfortable--they have a free turn down service at night and even drop off a paper at your door in the morning.
If I go back to Portland, I'll be sure to stay here again.

Troy greeted me at the front desk and asked me if this was my first stay at The Heathman; I replied it was, I rented a Flexcar for the weekend and brought my dog with me for a weekend in Portland since I'd never visited the city. He escorted me to my room: a black marble vanity abundant with white, fluffy towels; a spacious king-size bed with a European pillow-top mattress; a chaise lounge looking out to Broadway below; a writing desk and chair with a full coffee set, and a matching tea set on one of the bedside tables. He said he would later bring me a menu from the restaurant below and would be sure to indicate which items were vegan.
Toiletries were provided courtesy of L'Occitane, with a separate soap for the shower and sink. I only wish the housekeeping staff would have not thrown out the bottles I used once--how else am I supposed to return home with virgin goodies?
The staff was friendly, courteous, hospitable, everything you'd expect from a luxury property. I'd return to my room in the evening and find the bed already turned down, a bathrobe laying on the blankets and a bottle of water on the bedside table. Whenever I wanted to know the way to a neighborhood or store outside the downtown area, the staff graciously printed directions for me. When I accidentally left my phone in the car, the valet retrieved it and had it sent to my room.
I can't recommend the restaurant with any confidence as the kitchen was unable to prepare my meal to my satisfaction--I'm sure the executive chef is a marvel, good with numbers, keeps a tidy lawn, but his sous chef and/or line cooks need to reconsider the lasting effects of smoking weed. In the restaurant's defense, they paid for everything but my two cocktails to apologize for their lapse in service.
I will gladly return to The Heathman whenever I visit Portland, overall my experience was fantastic and exactly what I needed for the weekend: peace and relaxation.

Simply amazing. Wonderful service. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well stocked. They have over night parking and you can take you car in and out with no extra fee. Of bonus note: The hotel is reported to be haunted.

Although I haven't had a chance to stay at this hotel, I'm in love with their restaurant/bar. I've been to this place twice and have always been 100% satisfied. Nice and cozy place with great food. You can't ever go wrong with either crab cakes, hash-brown with salmon, and eggs with muffin. I'm telling you....it's just amazing!
I'm not done yet. It's also one of the best place for dessert in town. Their chocolate items are pretty good if you are a chocolate lover. Otherwise you gotta go for the bread pudding and/or tiramisu. You'll be glad that you give it a try. Don't forget to order a cup of coffee with your dessert.
A little bit pricy. They have Jazz from Wed - Sat nights. Perfect for a romantice date.

I travel a fair amount and this is one of my favorite hotels. The staff is helpful and polite, the rooms (while on the small side) are very comfortable and the hotel bar is fantastic. My only knock is that the work-out room is small but they have a nice treadmill and I have never waited to use it so this must not be a real issue.
Last week I flew in for work, late in the day, ran on the treadmill, ate in the bar and crashed in one of the amazingly comfortable beds. I woke the next day ready for my meetings.

Great old historic hotel. My co-workers had been raving about The Heathman for a long time so I finally got a chance to check it out on my own. I spent two nights there and enjoyed it very much. The lobby was really old fashioned/cool, the rooms were great, the bathroom was just the right size and the bed was great (I had a featherbed this time around -- you can choose between this one, Tempurpedic and a pillowtop). My only complaint was the A/C didnt work too well. I was there just yesterday (late Feb) but I like to have my room cold when sleeping. So unfortunately I woke up a few times each night to get a drink of water.
Valet parking with in-out privlages was a nice touch even though I didnt have to use it. Everything was right near the hotel -- great restaurants, good bars (Henry's 12th Street Tavern was a 10 min at most).
Will stay here again.
