This review is for Toby's Christmas Trees who uses the parking lot at Heather Farms. We have come here two years in a roll for our tree. The staff is very nice, the lot is big so you can take your time browsing all the trees, they help you carry the tree to the front, tie it to your car, and there's candy canes for the little ones. They only take cash or check so bring one or the other. Slightly more expensive than Home Depot or the supermarkets but you can't put a price on good customer service. I don't mind since I don't buy Christmas Trees all the time and like to help small businesses when I can. Merry Christmas!

Wow!!! This is a great park! I wish there were one like this near me!!
Big with lots of variety. There is a long road that goes through the middle of the park. One side has multiple Little League and soccer fields, and the other side has everything else... and I mean everything: 10 tennis courts, three swimming pools, two ponds, playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, outdoor basketball courts, a garden/rose garden, a dog park, and equestrian area, group and individual picnic areas, and lots of grassy areas. It's crazy big with lots of things to do for everyone.
Each part is great, and the whole is even better.

The upper pond is more on the man-made side with a concrete border and fountains. The lower pond is more natural with lots of plant life and geese.

So the dogs and I ventured over to Heather Farms Community Park to check out their dog park. No bueno... I'm still a fan of the Paso Nogal dog park so I'll draw my parallels from that park.
Heather Farms Dog Park, although located in a huge park, is small. The entry way is a little confusing (three gates one opens / four gates two that open) and both the small dog and large dog area entries are located there. The small dog park looks very nice. I figure a small dog (maybe 15 - 20 pounds) could get a good run there.
The large park is still on the small size but my hound got a little running done. The trees are young and spread out along the periphery of the grass so there is no shade. The perimeter of the play area is paved cutting it to an even smaller size. The turf is in need of repair (I now understand why it's closed after it rains, although a mud bowl would be fun).
The rest of it in list form;
There is only one water fountain, located in the entry area
No one seems to pick up after their dogs
Two sides of the park are a flanked by dry overgrown weeds (three burrs removed so far)
Bee / wasp issues. -

This park makes me want to get pregnant like right now. I can already envision all the birthday parties I'd have for my kids, watching them chase ducks around, dropping them off to soccer practice. I'm too selfish for kids right now but I do have a dog! My boyfriend and I took Bob our Norwich Terrier to the dog park section.
I'm a first time dog owner so I don't know what goes down at the dog park. I was envisioning a big field and Bob booking as soon as we take off the leash but as soon as we got to the actual dog park, my worries were gone. There is a smaller area for smaller dogs and a bigger area for the other dogs. I felt like such a proud dog mom when I saw Bob playing with the other dogs. There are benches for the dog owners to sit down on and lots of shade. They provide a few toys, little water fountain, and bags just in case your dog takes a dump. The only downside is that it stinks tremendously. Not from the dogs but it smells like you're driving down highway 5 through Norco. Aside from the ass smell, this place is great!
The rest of Heather Farm Park is pretty awesome. It's big. There are two baseball/softball fields, playgrounds, duck pond, and lots of trails. -
Review from Cara D.
Heather Farm Park is a gem. We take many long walks out there, circling the area, and sometimes stopping to let our dogs socialize at the park. You can find Bailey out making friends and lovers, while Charlie chases down and barks at the big dogs from the side of the little dogs' fence. I love seeing the ducks, the geese, the baby ducks, and we even saw some small fish there the other day.
The Verdict: It's a great way to get out, get some exercise, and experience the nature and beauty in our own backyard. -

One of the most complete parks I've ever seen - softball and soccer fields, basketball court, skate park, swimming, open fields, tennis courts, wildlife, dog park. The place is immense.
The children's play area is well kept and safe. The parking easily fills up though. And they are always having special events (fairs, egg hunts, etc.) - so check the online schedule to plan accordingly.
The 4 star review is only not 5 because I do want to warn about the goose poop that is extensive. I know they probably can't do anything about it but people should know so they dont let their toddlers run around unsupervised. -

What a fantastic park!
This place has just about everything you'll need to relax and recreate... and in a lovely setting, too.
Personal Highlights:
1. Wildlife in a suburban park! On a short walk around the pond, we saw tons of animals, including a colony of muskrats! So cool!
2. The dog park is wonderful. It has well-kept grass, bags, water, and separate enclosures for large and small pups.
3. Very nice demonstration gardens with plenty of cozy spaces to sit and stare.
4. Free parking.
The goose poop is out of control, but this is a problem throughout our fair state, so I won't fault Heather Farms... -

Came here last Sunday with my boyfriend after our brunch across the street. We were quite excited to get out of our car and to check this place out because we had drove through the park once. We were both amazed at how beautiful and large the park is. They have so many features and it was definitely peaceful at the same time.
My favorite part was Heather Farm's Garden. Their rose garden was spectacular and smelled absolutely wonderful. There is this lovely gazebo in the garden that would be a great place to have a small wedding ceremony. Their "eleven" waterfall is small but indeed a peaceful setting, especially during the day we went. We walked around and strolled their their garden and went by the lagoon, where we witness about 20 baby geese, duly protected by their mothers, just eating and going into the water. I was so happy that we went here. I would love to come back again!Listed in: East Bay Flair, Fat vs. Fit, Its a Date, Dub C

Dog park is so nice. Lots of benches. Lots of shade. Lots of treelins that when grown will be amazing. Big and small side.
I didn't like the fountains positioning. There is one shared by the two sides.... in the box before the run areas. That and it is the slowest filling.... fastest draining fountains I've seen of that type. I don't want to use a hose :T
Still, this is a really nice dog area. I am jealous. Of course sacramento can't have stuff like this. -

I was at the Heather Farm Community Center last night for the Walnut Creek CERT Crab Feed Fundraiser. This is a program that Gayle is not only actively involved, but emotionally committed. These are local folks (and their families) who treat Community Emergency Response seriously, and give their time (including organizing this Crab Feed from scratch) selflessly. As a lead person in this effort, Gayle works hard too, but is also a firm believer in a Ronald Reagan quote: "There is no limit to what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit."
Although we didn't win the Shark's ticket package during the Silent Auction, Gayle and I had a great time. We happily sat with some City officials and otherwise chatted with an engaging and multi generational variety people who are committed to their community. All the while, CERT, Rotary, Youth Council, and Citizen's Institute volunteers (among others), served up delicious crab, pasta, and bread. It doesn't get much better than this grass roots-wise.
Best of all, I loved seeing Gayle in her element, and what degree so many folks openly admire her smile, her energy, her intelligence, and her hard work. The later carried on after the event was over as both Gayle and I were cleaning up well after our fellow travelers had gone home. The final bonus was the beautiful view of the lit fountain as we worked into the night, and recognizing that we had all done good.Listed in: Gayle, Wedding Venues

I took my dog he for the first time over a year ago. We were there about 20 minutes when another dog bit him. I didn't see it happen but a witness came forward. The girl who was the owner of the dog wouldn't take responsibility or pay for the emergency vet bill ($750). Animal Control was wonderful & kept trying to contact her. At first she denied being there. In the end Animal Control couldn't determine anything for certain.

On a winter break from school, my nephew and I have been hitting up the park almost every day. Even with the non-stop raining lately, it's still a nice place to visit but it wins major props for being walking distance from my sister's house. The previously mentioned goose poop covering the sidewalk around the lake is a bit unpleasant... but my nephew loves the "penguins"!
Also I think the mini climbing wall in the playground is an awesome touch! -

I love this place.
Whether you are working on your fitness with the multiple pull up bars, trying to catch a fish or 6 in the man made lake, or just having some drank with your boo ( I saw a couple of newlyweds drinking some Hennessey in their Acura today in the parking lot) this place is a nice escape from the desperate downtown housewives of Walnut Crizzle.
A shopping plaza is located across the street in case hunger sets in. -

Second on Toby's Trees! There is no Yelp site for them, but I got my tree there last night and couldn't have been more pleased with the service and selection. I knew what I wanted, found it in under five minutes - all the trees were so nicely shaped that wasn't an issue. Fresh needles - the young man carried it to the front, did a fresh cut, and then my favorite....put on my tree stand for me (I brought mine with me). This stand is great but it has eight long bolts and he tightened them, making sure the tree was nice and straight. He loaded it on the car and I was on my way. At home, with the removal of two little knots I was able to untie the tree, roll it off the roof of the car and shoulder carry it to the yard so it can enjoy a day or two of outdoor time before brining it in. Great service. Lots of selection. Tip: Don't go late on Sunday - the trees are more picked over. Go early in the week for best selection and service.

I love going here on the weekdays in the afternoon. Basketball courts are usually open, nobody every uses the volleyball sand pit. Pretty gardens too!
I only give four stars because of all the goose poop but hey, it's the public's fault for feeding them constantly. -

Went here for my nephew's 1st birthday and had a blast. My sister's father-in-law arrived at 5:30am to reserve some tables for a party of 80 people. We also brought our own tables, chairs and canopies to accomodate that many people. Parking wasn't too bad.

This is just the pool.
I compete here when WCAB hosts a meet, I've practiced here on Saturdays during lap swim when I go home because AIA lacks Sat. am practice.
The pool is great, but after doing lap swim, I was shocked how shallow it really was. (When I dove into the pool to compete, I didn't feel that it was shallow. But then again my feet aren't allowed to touch the floor or I'll be DQed)
The good thing is I can use the equipment here- the kickboards, pull buoys, which help a lot when I'm getting a set from my coach. It doesn't get too crowded during open swim (I can't say the same for a swim meet.) Some people have 1 a lane.
Showers are pretty lacking, but they plan to have new ones.
Price is $4.75 for adults, not too bad. Cheaper than Mills, also close to Broadway Plaza and Downtown WC. -

Over all this park is really nice, with everything and more. However, the dog park needs a major overhall. I haven't been there in a while, since I use Newhall Dog park in Concord. But since they close on Wednesdays, I decided to trek over to Heather Farms. Bad Idea. My dog got her exercise, but I was not impressed with the lawn, the poop, and the smell. I watched as people walked in and ignored their dogs pooping and choosing instead to socialize with others. No wonder there is so much poop in and on the lawn. I am surprised since this is Walnut Creek. People should take pride in their dog park and watch their dogs! PICK UP YOUR DOG POOP! Choosing instead to head over to Point Isabel, Hap Magee, or Shell Ridge on Wednesdays. Also, this dog park is small compared to Newhall.

For my first visit to the park, we hit the trail for a 2.5 hour walk one Saturday morning. Since we were walking in a steady downpour, I didn't really get a chance to take in the surroundings. I just wanted to get through the walk and get back to the car to change into dry clothes. The trail was decent. Gentle inclines in some areas. If you're walking this trail for the first time, I'd recommend walking with someone, i.e., you walk through a drainage tunnel in one area but not for long. Hopefully I'll have another opportunity to visit this park in more sunny weather.

too~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ much goose poop~~~.
I have 3 kids, the grass area and the walk way are full of goose poop!! we all felt sick about how dirty it is. the playground is great, but you can still see goose poop here and there. we went there twice, and I will never take my kids there again unless there is a solution for cleaning up all those disgusting goose poop! -

Great Olympic-sized pool, plus a separate diving pool. Lap-swim/entrance fee is only $4 (a steal in the bay area). Nice water temperature, always clean water, and a friendly atmosphere. In high school I swam on the USS team here. Now, on occasion, I'll make the trek out here just for a nice outdoor swim in the sunshine.
Home to excellent swim teams (both USS and Masters' teams), in a really beautiful setting, this pool is a gem in Contra Costa County. (With the added bonus being that the presence of stellar swim teams means that there are a serious lot of hot bods around.)
Minus a star for the open showers with luke-warm water in a locker-room that is sorely in need of updating. Plus back a star for the rest of the gorgeously landscaped surrounding parks and greenery.Listed in: Swimming!

Walnut Creek, CA
A fairly large park. It annually hosts the Walnut Festival. The park features a full assortment of recreational use. Swimming pools, Tennis courts, all that good stuff. However, they're lacking a decent basketball court.
The fountain in the like is a suffice pleasant view. Beware of the scattered geese poo on the grass and even on the concrete walkways. In the back of the park, there is a almost hidden gate to the trails that links to the iron horse trails. Parking is always plentiful.
This is a pretty chill place to throw your banging BBQ cause its got plenty of space. Easy to park and right along the busy street of Ygnacio Valley Rd. -

Spent the good part of the morning and afternoon here with Wyatt. This park brings back so many memories. Despite living in Antioch, I went to school in Concord/Walnut Creek. A bunch of my friends held birthday parties here. Went to cross country meets here. Took prom pics here. So many good memories...
I completely forgot how beautiful the garden is. Setting my eyes on it today, I instantly remembered. Beautiful roses of many colors. Benches to sit. Perfect spot.
The lagoon is absolutely beautiful as well...lots of geese and ducks! They were a treat to see. Just watch where you step -- the bird poop is as big as my dog's poop, which is kinda unnerving. -

This park is great, and has all the ammenities: softball fields, a reserve for geese, a pond for ducks, a nature trail, huge picnic areas for company parties, etc, tennis courts, swimming pools, and a cool flower garden. Great for runners and walkers! But I'm really yelping Heather Farms to write about the renovated dog park:
Dog Park Review:
I guess during the closure, it allowed new grass to grow. But it looks like more grass seeds, fertilizer, and water did the trick because it looks good! Both the big and small dog sides have A LOT of fresh grass. Instead of playing, my dog just like to relax and lay in it instead. As so it appeared with a lot of the dogs. They all just looked happy to lay in it. I'll have to add this to my "dog park list". OH, and they got the fountain to work again!!!Listed in: Best Dog Parks - East Bay

The park is big and vast....good parking, a variety of play structures and grass to sit-on. Shade is available for parents.
I had an issue with my son wanting to dive into the lake (that is not fenced off, etc.)....perhaps we will go back when he is older and it is not so warm (thus lessening his desire to swim). -

Heather Farms. The place I don't come often enough.
I almost fell into the big lake as kid. And I had my third date ever in front of those fountains.
I've been geocaching here, and there's a great trail on the other side of the road. They also have the walnut festival here every year, but as much as I love squirting the water in the clowns mouth, I hate trying to park when those things are going on.
The cops drive around at dark and oust people parked or hanging out. It's actually kinda funny to watch if you're ever bored. -
Review from Ivy R.
I am in love with this park. When my family moved to Concord in the early nineties my mom would take my sister and I here during the day to feed the ducks.
My now husband then boyfriend, took me here once as a little early evening date to take a stroll and feed the ducks. He was shocked that I would let the wild geese eat right out of the palm of my hand. My husband really didn't get out much as a child I guess.
Today was an amazing day and we took the opportunity to take the wiener out and check out the dog park that we have never been to before. This place rocks your socks off! My wiener dog is pretty shy and it was really cool to see her walk around without a leash on and sniff butts and other things.
My company also rents out the community center for a events. It can accommodate a trade show and serve food to quite a few people. The beautiful surroundings help to make a fine event as well.
I am coming back every chance I get. Now thanks to my fellow yelpers I know they close the dog park in the rain.Listed in: Event Spaces, Doggy Friendly, Parks & Recreation

People, PUH-LEASE, PLEASE, PLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSEEEE pick up after your dog, most people do (THANK YOU), but there's a lazy woman who comes and looks directly at her 3 dogs while they go number 2 and she doesn't pick it up. Listen, people run around with their dogs, play catch etc. I'm sure NONE of us want to step in YOUR dogs crap because you are too lazy to pick it up. It's an awesome dog park that provides great baggies and trash cans for you so that you may pick up after your dogs, they make it EASY for you! The moral of the story is, if you come here, please pick up after yours dogs to keep this park a nice place for us all and to keep the bottom of our shoe free of doggie poop.
Sincerely,
Me, the one who isn't a fan of picking up poop, but does it because it's the right thing to do.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

This review is mainly for the dog park section.
Bongo has been with us for about 4 months, and we've been taking him to the small dog park (there's a big dog park right beside it) ever since. Although he is a little shy when it comes to big social groups, he's slowly coming around. When an outgoing pup eggs him on, he leaves the cement sidewalk and starts playing in the deliciously fresh grass. And in case he decides he wants to take a good poop, the park provides everyone with pooper scoopers. Very nice! There's also community water and community dog toys.
Heather farms is a great place to socialize your dog, and socialize with other dog owners. :D
Oh and if you or your dog get bored, you can always leaved the fenced in dog park and go for a little walk on one of the many trails at Heather farms. -

Heather Farms is a great park. Lots of fields, a pond, rose garden, play structures for the kids, walking trails, horse rink and dog parks (small and large dogs). I love just walking around here. I also play softball here once a week in the city league and the fields are good - minus the ton of geese all around. Overall a really great park

This is a nice place to bring the little ones and let them run free for a couple hours. We mostly stick with the playground area which has an adjacent picnic area - so I can relax with some tasty deli and still keep a keen eye on them.
Bring yourself a nice picnic or bbq lunch and enjoy the WC sun. Parking can be a bit much, but we've never had too much of a problem.Listed in: Good Clean Fun, my parents are coming...

Large -no HUGE - inner suburbia park that has:
-large Olympic pool (admission charged only for this area)
-large children's play area
-large grass areas
-lots of walk/jog trails
-volleyball courts
-basketball courts
-tennis courts (fee for use)
-bbq/picnic areas for small and large parties (reservations available)
-2 ponds, one natural and one man made
-equestrian arena/area
-2 community centers for renting out
-rose/flower garden with walking paths, gazebo and little waterfall
-soccer fields
-baseball fields
-several large parking areas
-access to canal trails
I have always loved this place for peaceful walks and things to do with friends. They keep adding to it and making it better all the time.
The only thing I hope is that they never get rid of the equestrian area - the city has threatened to do so in the past and it narrowly escaped the chopping block. However the history of this place is that it used to be a horse farm and race track and was even the site for shooting a 1931 movie with Clark Gable called "Sporting Blood". Today there are many avid equestrians who use this arena for practice and shows. If you'd like to keep up on the Walnut Creek Equestrian Center, here is their web site:

Review from Sean O.
Five straight days of rain means my dog is behaving like a crack-crazed lunatic cooped up indoors. Seriously. He pissed in the middle of the floor during a dinner all while staring right at me. He knows better. Not to mention, he chewed up my bluetooth headset used for playing Call of Duty on the PS3. He's never been a chewer. That almost had him turned into a rug.
Anyways, after the crap weather broke, he NEEDED a trip to the dog park. Two fenced in areas, one for big dogs and one for little dogs makes off leash simple. After his customary mach 4 sprints in the big dogs' area to wear him out, I'll drop him in the small dog park so he can mingle with other little guys.
Great spot to relax, unless you are one of the dog owners who can't seem to break their dogs of their aggressive behavior and are therefore breaking up fights the whole time. Then it could be aggravating. Not Baxter, though. He is a little gentleman. Good people, good pups and great park. I meet someone new each time and there are some great regulars. There are even patio tables if you have the courage to bring in food! On a beautiful day you really can't beat this place. Take a book and let your pup exercise!

Heather Farm is a comfortable BIG ASS PARK in the East Bay 'burb of Walnut Creek. We walk our dog here when we can't decide to go anywhere else or when it rains. By summer '07 there's supposed to be a nice dog park built on the north side. Our boy won't be interested. Dude's not into fenced-in mosh pits now that he's older and thinks most dogparkdawgs get too HYPHY... he wags his tail to a different drummer.
This 102-acre park pretty much has it all: picnic areas with BBQ grills, walking trails, kids play area, sports fields, tennis courts, hoops, pool, skate park, community center, equestrian center, ponds, the "Gardens at Heather Farm", lots of cool ducks, birds and geese. As the signs say, PLEASE DON'T FEED THE WILDLIFE, especially with that stale processed bread shit. Watch out for the goose poop! Not a problem if you do a little cross-steppin'... HEY, there's some NATURE here... deal with it. U all Netflixed "Winged Migration" yah?
We try to avoid this place when the popular Walnut Creek Art & Wine Fest rolls around --- not our scene. But if you like that sorta thing, look for it at the beginning of June. Overall, a well-maintained park with something for everyone. Worth the haul eastbound through the Caldecott if the summer fog has got you bummed and you need to get reacquainted with Mr. Sol. -
Review from Geoff D.
A recent family outing to Heather Farm reminded me what a terrific suburban park this is.
Given that I was in the company of pre-schoolers, I was most focused on the large playground area that's modern, well maintained and conveniently sub-divided by age/difficulty. There are no fences between the different climbing areas, but since they are all set well back from the roads, I found it reasonable to watch my 4 year old on one climbing structure while my two year old played in the sand area on the other side. Large clean picnic tables surround the playground area, and heck, there's even a decently-sized climbing wall for the older kids like me.
In addition to the playground fun, Heather Farm offers a host of other assets including a duck pond, community center & gardens, tennis courts and public swimming pool. I can't speak directly to all of these, but I will close by noting that this is one impressive lineup of public space just outside of downtown Walnut Creek.Listed in: Outdoor Kids' Adventures in…

I came here for my law school picnic over the weekend, and we couldn't have had better weather, not too hot and not too cold. Especially since my friends and I were a tad hungover from our previous night's debauchary!
This park did not seem to have a problem with alcohol, and the restrooms here were actually pretty darn clean, they had all the major necessities a girl could ask for: tp, seat covers, doors, soap and cleanliness!
Also there was plent of nearby parking close to our spot.
