For small stores that offer products mainly to delight the shopper, the eye of the person editing the inventory is critical to their success. I for one was very pleased with the fun, cool, interesting selection in this place. I wish I'd come here before the holiday to do some of my shopping. A real gem.

Love this place! I stop in here every time I am in Rockridge and yet, today was the first time I've bought something. Very eclectic mix of kids toys, stationery, decorative items and fun items like tote bags, candles and lotions. The prices are reasonable and it's a great place to go for a gift.
The shop was packed today and they had some adorable Christmas decorations-birds, owls, squirrels and other various trinkets for your tree.
I've got to get back there after the holidays and pick up some more ornaments, in the hopes they'll be on clearance.
Great neighborhood shop, friendly owner and workers. Stop in and buy something (unlike me who took 2 years of visiting this shop to finally spend money there!) -

This store is super cute! I discovered it years ago and I make it a point to drop by whenever I'm in the area.
CLEVER GREETING CARDS + UNIQUE GIFTS GALORE! It's a perfect one-stop-shop if you're looking for a gift (bday, anniversary, etc.) They have stuff for babies, boys + girls, men + women, puppies + doggies, everyone!
The lady behind the counter was very nice. She even allowed me to eat my [Tara's] ice cream in the store. AND when I was done w/ my ice cream, she didn't mind recycling the cup/spoon for me. If it were the norm, I would have given her a fabulous tip when I made my purchase. You sweet lady you. :) Thank You.
Oh, BTW... Ladies: Heartware has a nice selection of pretty socks and tights (colors galore!), located on the wall behind the register. I almost always buy a pair whenever I go. I heart socks.Listed in: Born to Shop

Since they changed a few letters in the name and the ownership of this great little place, I realized I better re-post my review of the shop it was before but still is just with a new and different. Confused? You won't be after reading my review. This is just a great lil place in the neighborhood. Now go buy a card and/or a gift!
"How have I not Yelped Heart**** before? I love this store. I always find the perfect cute and unique gifts in here. I especially like getting gifts for kids in here. I'm not a big shopper, so having a nice, easy-to-browse selection like they do at Heart**** is perfect
And, I gotta say, that I find the employees to be really nice. I am always chatting and having nice little conversations with them. Plus, they play really cool music in there. (In fact, I think they might have stolen my iPod!) "
See, that wasn't so hard. New name. Same vibe. Same great 5-star Yelp review! -

Ok selection, ok prices -- I just couldn't figure out what this store was really "about." Some kitchen stuff, socks, and some toys. All of them nice and interesting, but I'm not sure if this place would come to mind the next time I go shopping.

The owner of Heartware is so darling and her store so distinctly personal. I bought four aromatherapy scented soaps during a recent visit. When I struggled to decipher the ingredients of two of the soaps, the store's owner searched the Internet until she found the French to English translation for this ingredient. This is outstanding customer service.

This little gem of a store is not only wonderfully located as to facilitate a great Saturday shopping experience (next door to a great artisan butcher shop and a European bakery) but perfect for finding unusual and clever gifts. I must admit I shop there alot and some of my favorites are the soaps, picture frames, jewelry and purses! Now, as a grown up, but hopefully semi-cool house wifey type I also love the napkins!!! I especially love the retro Cowgirl and California styles. I absolutely couldn't do without this sweet store! And the gift wrapping!!! I forgot to mention how convenient and cool the free wrapping is!!

My fiance and I loved Heartfelt and although he lives around the corner, we had not realized there was a change in ownership from Heartfelt to Heartware. We were a bit confused with the name and the newish layout and merchandising style in the front. Nonetheless, we were happy to find the same gag, bath/personal care, baby and birthday gifts as well as selection of greeting cards. Let's keep small business on College Ave alive and well - go shop Heartware for your next gift!

I've stopped by this shop a few times now and unfortunately I've had two bad experiences. I really appreciate their selection of printed matter and other fun things. I don't really appreciate when the woman behind the counter who is using a price gun does not look up at me when I am asking her about a product. Her response and tone made me want to never ever walk into this shop again. I'm sorry to trouble you shopkeeper. Don't be so arrogant when speaking to someone who plans to buy something at your shop! Alas, I live down the street and will be forced to at some point try again. Hopefully, this makes an impact on their customer service.

This is one of the most adorable shops ever. It has a quirky sense of humor mixed with a dash of whimsy, which pulls you in. They have some fun toys, a wide selection of witty and artistic cards, and some adorable baby gear. The ladies behind the counter were very warm and welcoming. If you are strolling down College Ave stop in for a browse. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I recently discovered this cute little store in Rockridge. I grabbed some New Year's Eve stuff there at the last minute, and picked up a cool "I Am Not a Paper Cup" coffee cup. Their merchandise changes frequently, and they have lots of clever greeting cards and nice gift wrap. The staff is very friendly. This is a great place to get a unique gift.

One of my all-time favorite stores in Oakland. Heartware always seems to have the perfect gift items.. for everyone on my list, young and old. They carry a fun and funky selection of toys and kid/baby stuff as well as exciting housewares/decor items... and their greeting card selection is off the hook. This is the kind of store that I go back to over and over just to see what's new!

I love this store. When I need gifts of any kind, I go to Heartware. If you want to spend a lot or not so much, this is the place to go to find that perfect present. They have gifts for ALL ages, from newborns to the elderly, find the gift that says it all and a card to match. I shop there way too much and spend all of my money there. That's why I only gave them 4 instead of 5 stars!

Wow!! Worst customer service EVER!!!! I walked in looking for a specific item and when I couldn't find what I was looking for, I walked up to the counter. The woman behind the counter was totally ignoring me, not looking up, staring at her laptop, pretending to be super-busy. So I was standing there for a minute or two, feeling very awkward and not daring to interrupt her playing busily at her laptop, until she finally looked up and snapped at me in an "I'm-better-than-you attitude": "If you want to know something, open your mouth!" WHAT??!! Excuse me?! First of all, it is your job to treat your customers in a nice and polite manner, which you obviously don't do. Second, it is your job to address the customer by asking in a nice way: "May I help you?". (And feel free to add the word "Madam" or "Sir" at the end of this question). I would like to advise that nice lady who in such a friendly manner told me today to "open my mouth" to increase her knowledge of good customer service by taking a class in politeness! Yes, I'm a foreigner and you might think that in that case it's ok to snap at me like that, but I tell you what: It's NOT ok!!! It's not ok to snap at anyone like that!! I won't be seen in that shop EVER again!

What a great little store! Some really unique items, and the woman that helped me, I think she was the owner, was very helpful. I recommend it to anyone looking for an unusual gift.

I've had a couple bad experiences here. I agree that the woman behind the counter, who today I confirmed is the OWNER, is terrible at customer service. I asked if they would have more journals coming in and she seemed annoyed. But, worse than that, she had a sign on the door that said "back in 10 minutes" I waited outside for 25 minutes, and when she returned, she actually made me wait about another 3 before I could go in AND she was not apologetic at all. She is super arrogant and unfriendly and it makes me not want to spend money in her store.

I have to agree with the two other negative reviews. The owner has a problem. I've shopped there twice, found great stuff, had a pretty pleasant, almost friendly interaction with the owner (and mind you, each time i was shopping for about 10 gifts so I was in there for a while) and then at the end she pulled some ridiculous attitude about the gift wrapping, this last time informing me that she was not in the business of giving away tissue paper (I was going on a plane and could not have the items wrapped.) After I had just spent $130 in her store she wanted to make an issue about putting 8 sheets of tissue in the bag (maybe 50 cents worth?) instead of wrapping the gifts for me which she said she would be happy to do, but don't be fooled because last time I did have her wrap all the gifts and she had an attitude about that too. So either she has created a conflict of interest for herself since she also sells nice wrapping paper by the sheet, or she simply has a problem. Both times I left the store with a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be going back. Any suggestions for great gift shops in the area with friendly owners or salespeople?

This is the best of College Ave - what a clever creative place and the card selection is worth the visit. Linens, toys, baby clothes , japanese erasers, dishes, soap, candles. It is truly a variety store with style. The owner is always there and very friendly,
