Tomales Bay State ParkWhy would someone want to pay $6 per car to enter the Tomales Bay State Park, which is right next to the free use of the Point Reyes National Seashore? Heart's Desire Beach, that's why.
While beaches on the National Park required a hike down steep sandy trails, the State Park had a parking lot right at the beach. We found this to be a warm, sheltered, white sand beach with clean water. At 4 pm the parking lot was nearly full, and all the picnic tables were taken. About 100 children were playing in the cove, and there were three boys rocking a platform offshore. Looking north, we could see another beach with just one person on it, a short walk away on one of the nature trails.
I noticed there was no lifeguard. The only improvements to the land appeared to be the nature trails, the parking lot, and the clean public restrooms with outdoor showers. If we were to spend the day here, it would be a good idea to bring our own food and beach umbrella.

So many people have told me what a great toddler beach this is..
It is on a very calm bay, but the beach is muddy and we found broken glass.
My neighbors who have lived in Marin their entire lives told me that is a great place to find great whites, not exactly where I want my baby to play if you know what I mean.
I probably won't be back to this beach.
