26 reviews for Healthy Spot
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Have to agree with pretty much everyone that this place is as good as it gets. I am back on yelp reviewing and starting with the gang at the H.S.! Everything is just wonderful at the Healthy Spot. The owners are so awesome: that deal with Dude's (my dog's wildly inappropriate and overprotective Jewish grandmother) with care and understanding. We have literally had to change Dude's food literally 56 times on her request, but time and again they give out samples and attempt to please the unpleaseable. The staff is equally grand. I have been going to the Healthy Spot since pre-Dude and they helped me get ready to welcome a new puppy to my home. The are all so knowledgeable, you just can't go wrong. The groomers are superb: my dog actually loves going to the groomers. I also use their doggy day care, and I love reading their little report card where it says who he plays with and how many poops he made during the day. Bottom line: the Healthy Spot carries the best brands, they advocate for your pet, and they love your pooch like your own. I am happy to call Healthy Spot Dude's home away from his home away from home (in case the over protective Jewish grandma is reading). PS. Healthy Spot just had the most precious King Cavalier Ball! Sign up for the email list for deals and the coolest events. There are not enough good things to say about the Healthy Spot, but I will just say besides it being totally clean and pet-friendly, it is the people who make me keep going back to the best pet store EVER!
So by now I have tried out almost all the services at Healthy Spot, and everything...the owners, grooming, daycare, products, services...are amazing!
Andrew, Mark, and the entire staff are always helpful and go above and beyond to ensure you are happy and informed about their products and services.
On my first trip in, my dog Pom was checked into the groomer, given a full orientation with all the staff and other dogs in daycare, and pampered to the fullest. I liked that they were not only concerned about taking your dog, but really integrating them into socializing and being comfortable. They even give you a report card on your dog and how they interacted with the others. Kinda cheesy, I know, but it was nice to see she was so well cared for.
There was a little mix-up when I came to pick Pom up, because the groomer had thought she only wanted a bath/style instead of a haircut. The groomer got her back in immediately, even though he was I think leaving for the day, and did a fantastic job. Andrew then gave me a discount, although I told him it wasn't at all necessary.
Oh, and the first session of daycare...eventhough I had intended on paying for the four hours she was there, was free and comped as an "orientation".
Other great things - The entire staff cares...a lot! Very expert daycare. Clean, modern chic design and products. They have their own loyalty card and program. They support local shelters. Very cute customizable dog tags. Grooming product line "Ilse of Dogs" is I think better than what my salon sells :) Oh...and did I mention free parking...which is always better than hunting for quarters.
Shortcomings - The prices for their products are sometimes a bit high, so I do pick and choose...but the selection is unbeatable.
I brought my pup here all the way from San Francisco to get groomed! The staff was friendly, helpful, and very kind to my doggy child. I know people think Healthy Spot's grooming fees are pricey, but I paid more at stupid PETCO to get my pup groomed and she came out looking like a moth had eaten her fur. PLUS, the staff at Petco wasn't friendly or kind to my pup at all. We were originally supposed to have our pup in daycare for a day, but we didn't make it to LA in time. She's going to check it out another time. :) Love the store, love the staff, and love the healthy food/treat selections as well.
MY dogs only get the best. This place is the best! I've been to many doggy stores and groomers, but this place is hands down #1.
Grooming - Take every down every detail and deliver!
Store - They have a lot of special dog food that you can't find anywhere. It's pricey, but if you want to see that tail wag at home, you'll buy it.
Staff - Super friendly, knowledgeable
Only complaint - it's expensive. But then again its a spa for dogs.
Well, i took my Sandee here or her second visit on Saturday.
She looked like a million bucks when she was done
I have to thank those great groomers, they do a wonderful job!
I'd have given 5* if when I asked for my Yelp discount (which they
advertise as 10%) only came up as $5 on a $68 bill.
the math just didn't match up on that one ;)
Sandee will be back :)

LOVE this place. 1. very competitive prices; 2. very knowledgeable staff; 3. AWESOME GROOMERS!!!
My shih tzu just needed her face trimmed and a lil' hygiene shave on the booty. A lot of places make your dog sit around in cages for hours, or will only do the full bathe and groom. The groomers here did an ala carte face/booty trim, charged me $10, and did it while I wait. They did a great job, too. Seriously, I've tried 6 different groomers in the area and these guys are a treasure. Thank you!
I have been to a lot of dog stores, always looking for cute clothes to dress my chihuahuas up in. However most of these stores no nothing about actually caring for your pet. Not the case at Healthy Spot!
The employees are knowledgable about what your pet needs to stay healthy.
They offer anesthesia free teeth cleaning for your pets. I did this today for my two chihuahuas. It took her about an hour and their teeth look amazing! Most importantly the staff helped me understand that health teeth does more for my babies than just give them better smelling breath.
Not only will this make it easier to brush their teeth from home, my dogs are healthier now.
Healthy Spot also offers doggy day care and grooming!
Plus all your other pet needs, from food and treats to super cute collars and bags!
I recommend this place to everyone, stop wasting your time and money at other pet stores.
The prices are affordable and the service is great!
Best. Pet shop. EVER.
I gotta tell you, I hate going to most pet supply shops. Other than the cute puppies occasionally there for adoption, the service generally is crap, nobody knows what they're talking about, the places look like a warehouse, and the staff of zombie-teenagers generally couldn't give a hoot about your pooch.
Healthy Spot is totally different and in a world of its own. I trekked over here to stock up on Souplements for my dog (btw, awesome product for those of you who have dogs with hydration issues) and discovered what an amazing shop it is.
This place is spic-n-span clean and modern, with a funky but functional product layout. Everything is displayed attractively and alluringly (sp?). But the best thing is the service and the knowledge. These people really know every product that they carry in the store - the pros, the cons, the why or why-nots. These are true animal lovers. I got some great samples of healty snacks and organic domestic foods. And for those of you who don't think mass-market food is an issue, have you seen the news lately about the human food (let alone dog food) that comes out of China??
I liked it so much that I took my dog in recently for a nail clipping. The grooming area of this store is cleaner and nicer than most spas I've been to, and again, the service and attention was just amazing. Unlike most grooming places where your pet disappears into some hidden room, this grooming area is wide open and exposed so you have confidence that your dog won't be mistreated.
Yes, there are some crazy ridiculously expensive items in here. But rest assured that all of it has been researched and bought for a reason, and all you need to do is ask the staff.
If you care about your pet, pay Healthy Spot a visit. Totally worth it.
I've been to Healthy Spot a couple of times this week, and i can't wait to be a regular from now on.
I would always past by the place but i thought it would be as pretentious as its modern-forward-thinking-floor-to-ceiling-glass-win dow-open-floor-displays would be.
I finally went in and found that their dedication to healthy living for dogs and cats is their sole mission. Their drive is more than trying to catch on the organic train.
They select products that are sustainable and environmentally friendly to the earth, your pet, and ultimately to you as well.
The staff are welcoming and attentive to new customers.
I've compared prices from the original vendor to what Healthy Spot charges to re-sell them and it's not a big difference. (I've bought "Shammy" by Planet Dog and "Good Dog" treats by Sojourner Farms.
My last visit was on a Sunday when they host pet adoptions from a great organization called Bill Foundation (http://www.billfoundat...), and even though the store was busy, someone graciously escorted me to the groomers when I only had a pre-appointment question.
I recommend this place.
My neighbor recommended me to Healthy Spot because she thinks I am abusing my dog by taking him to Petco grooming. In her mind, Petco does volume and they don't care about anything else. I was reluctant at first because I looked through the Healthy Spot LA brochure she gave me and it reminded me of the Bliss Spa inside W Hotels. I thought, no way will this upscale, doggie spa be reasonably priced & no way will this business located in Santa Monica provide parking for its customers. Street metered parking just don't mix well with me.
Then I was bored during the long Labor Day weekend and booked a grooming appointment and made my way down there. First of all, there is parking, LOTS of parking behind the store. I was in shock!!! Second of all, the grooming price costs the same as Petco. Extra brownie points for Healthy Spot because all the staff there are SUPER FRIENDLY and I really felt they loved my dog more than I did.
Put away your perception of upscale, snobby pet services located in hip, urban cities such as Santa Monica (been to plenty of those once and never returned). Try Healthy Spot! I was blown away because this place carries organic pet food and treats and they sell earth friendly doggie beds made from recycled bottles that are super soft! I love this store!
Top notch service, best quality of food you can give to Fido, and global sustaining products! Best of all, the prices are not that much more expensive.
First off, there's no water bowl at the front door. What's up with that? This is the ultimate first impression. Oh well, they're new so...
The store is clean and modern - lots of windows and light and bright white shelves. Everything is organized in neat little rows.
I thought the selection was just ok. I didn't find anything that was unique but I like to support dog boutiques so I ended up picking a 4 oz.. bag of Real Toppers salmon for Simba. Much to my chagrin, it rang up as $19.00!!! My goodness, I'll grill and dry my own salmon (from Costco) next time!
First impression of the store:
Clean, Bright, Modern, Dog-friendly! Lots of stuff, different, but in a good way. I think the super-cleanliness of the store reminds me of Apple - it's very inviting and open.
Staff:
And the staff is very personable. I've never gone into a Petco or a Petsmart to get even remotely the same service as this place does. It's obvious Healthy Spot is specifically geared towards Dog Lovers, and dog lovers only. (sorry cat fans!)
Products:
They provide a wide array of products I've never even seen in any other pet store. From cool funky toys, to wholesome nutritious foods, you can spend a bit of time in here, before deciding on all the goodies you want to treat your dog with.
Food:
My dog loves the new Evo "brand" of food. The one he eats is based mostly from chicken and turkey meat, and includes all that healthy goodness from whole, raw fruits and vegetables. The first day I put him on the new Evo food, he scarfed it down as if he was starving. We've always just bought like whatever brands that they carry at Costco, but the difference is totally noticeable. He used to just leave his food in the bowl and not eat it until whenever he felt like it. But this Evo stuff, he just digs in right away. I guess dogs have a pretty picky palate too.
I also highly recommend a lot of the snacks they sell! Try out the Dogswell brand if you haven't yet - they have a lot of snacks that are specifically geared towards different nutrients that supplement your dogs' well-being. My dog loves the Vitality line for healthy eyes, skin, and coat - it's like these sweet potato snacks wrapped in chicken jerky. He goes nuts for anything with chicken jerky!
Grooming:
It looks like they offer grooming and doggie daycare for those who are interested - I would probably drop off my dog if it was closeby... I drive out all the way from South Bay area just to buy food~ it's totally worth it! I have tried their Isle of Dogs line which you can find at a lot of the boutique type pet stores. But the shampoo/conditioner totally makes a difference in the fur. My "wolf" has been getting compliments for days!
Miscellaneous:
I like the fact that the store is really open, and they're not restricted to just one or two lines of product. And I like that a lot of their stuff isn't just for the overly-pampered high-maintenance dogs, it's for ALL dogs, of all shapes, kinds, and sizes. The staff doesn't hound you (no pun intended), but if you ask them questions they're courteous and knowledgeable. So you can even bring your dog and walk around the store together while you shop.
And some other guy on here mentioned their frequent email newsletter you can sign up for. It's great because they keep you updated on what's going on with the store. They don't just sell stuff, they work with the community to provide dog adoptions, TV viewings, and community events. I went to the annual Walk for the Underdog nearby and Healthy Spot was there providing water to all the dogs that participated! It's so refreshing to see a dog store that actually reaches out to the community.
While the only thing is the price may not be exactly bargain priced or dirt cheap - this isn't a Walmart or a Food 4 Less for dogs...it's premium products. I've always firmly believed you get what you pay for. It's healthy, nutritious, and you won't have to worry about what your dog is eating. One time I went to Petco and found a bunch of bugs crawling around in a bag of biscuits (I'm not saying all Petcos are like that) but... I don't trust Petco anymore after that incident. My dog gets enough protein from other sources.
They really emphasize that your dog IS your family - rather than just your pet. I like that. My dog has always been a part of my family, so I would definitely return to Healthy Spot for this experience.
Got a chance to revisit Healthy Spot and I'm happy to say that the store has matured by leaps and bounds from their opening. I am impressed with the level of commitment and energy Andrew and Mark have put forth and am upgrading my rating to 5 stars. They provide a wonderful service that has up to now been sorely missed to the locals who live on the Westside. I'd definitely recommend visiting and think that if they continue improving, they could threaten Pussy & Pooch and overtake my fave dog boutique.
5000 char max?! As usual, I'm very long winded in my reviews, so I apologize in advance to those of you reading this. Some background - I got a pm a few weeks ago from Andrew K. who is the other co-owner of Healthy Spot that I didn't get to meet last time. He was very understanding of everything in my review and offered me the chance to come visit again and allow him to show me how they have matured and addressed the areas I pointed out. That's probably one of the best things I like about Yelp!, when an owner responds to a review I wrote in a positive and constructive way. I meant to get back to him, but things just piled up. Until I was passing by the store at night with Angus around 8PM and thought, "oh I'll just stop by and take a look." Andrew happened to be there and remembered writing me, even though I was surprising him by coming unannounced. He was very warm and interested in my thoughts about the store, which I was quite flattered by since my opinion is just a singular view that he could just blow off. But he took the time to show me the various aspects of the store that have developed since my initial visit and took a lot of time to visit with me. To get under the 5000 char limit, I'll sum up what I think is Healthy Spot's strength with one example. Grooming tables that could be raised or lowered by an electric motor that also provide light from the bottom panel where the pet is standing. Never seen them before and I think it exemplifies Healthy Spot's most attractive attribute - their intense proactive nature in searching for the newest, most innovative, stylish, and above all practical information, services, and products for owners and their dogs and presenting it in a smart and intelligent fashion. That attitude spills over to just about every aspect that makes up Healthy Spot and none of the warmth or enthusiasm gets lost along the way. Another thing I'll point out is their hosted events that they are really doing a great job on. Every Thursday and Sunday they have someone from the Sepulveda VCA come out and perform anesthesia free teeth cleaning. First cleaning is between $80-$120 depending on your dog's tartar state and quarterly follow up visits are then something like $15. Great service, and I'm thinking of taking Angus in as he losing the white teeth brilliance of his puppydom. Dog rescue sponsored in store many weekends and cool newsletter that is sent frequently round out the standouts. I'm not mentioning other minutia that they've improved, but just about everything described as lacking in my previous review has been addressed. Additional staff have been hired that are better trained and friendly. One more thing I'll say bc I'm such a fan of Fara A. - they now have a water bowl at the front door. = )
You wouldn't think I could come up with many negatives after making such a glowing list of positives right? Well really i don't have any, just nit picky stuff and are more suggestions for improvement. Still not sold on their doggy day care area. The smallish under-ventilated room falls victim to the overused pet-a-potty smell and probably germs as well. Grooming area is nice, but they have a back room where they use cages to house dogs to be groomed. It's not a sin by any means and I don't know of many places that would offer it, but bc they are so innovative I would like to see if they could come up with a way to make the dogs' stay nicer than being in a cramped dark cage. Finally, and perhaps predictably for the great Santa Monica location on Wilshire, prices are high, even for a upper echelon dog boutique, so come prepared to deal with sticker shock unless money is no object to you (and there are so few of us... ha!)
Looking forward to visiting them again.

Yay! This is my favorite pet store in Santa Monica. The staff is super friendly and very well informed about their products. I not only buy dog food, treats, and clothes here, I also take my dogs to their grooming salon.
Trish, the master groomer, is awesome and does an incredible job with both my puppies. Overall, I think HealthySpot is an awesome store and an asset to the neighborhood.
I've taken my baby back to Healthy Spot twice to get groomed. Trish is an amazing groomer and always makes her look adorable. They've recently raised their prices a bit but they are still comparable with other groomers in Santa Monica - plus, you know your dog will come out looking great!
Thanks Trish and Health Spot!

Besides being an fantastically hip Pet place, they support animal rescues. Their prices are very high, but at least their heart is in the right place. Thanks for all you do with adoptions.
Being a new "mommy" to an adorable little pomeranian girl, I was in the market for a groomer close to where I live. When I did a search using Google, the Healthy Spot pops up. The reviews for this pet store/daycare/grooming place is just unbelievable so I filed the Healthy Spot at the back of my mind.
I usually give Coco a bath myself but on the days she needs some ear cleaning and nail trimming, I decided to give me a break and take her to the Healthy Spot instead. The staff there is super nice and helpful. The owner of the store, Andrew, is often there and I've met him pretty much every time I go there and he's super nice and friendly.
Coco comes out smelling nice and fresh out of grooming and the salon is super clean! My experience with the Healthy Spot has been excellent and Andrew is very knowledgeable with the dog food they carry in the store. They carry Party Animal which is highly recommended by my vet, Dr Shane.
I also attended a meetup for Yorkies that was held at the Healthy Spot and met the girls who worked at the day care. They are both very nice, cheery, and love playing with the dogs. I've never taken Coco to daycare... I'm hoping they will branch out for dog boarding soon!
This place looks nice and cute, so I thought I would check it out. I brought my both yorkies for a bath and intimate grroming. Four hours later when I called and asked if they are ready I find my dogs half-way done. I ask them to finish with this intimate grooming, they do, I go to the counter to pay and I get a compliment about my dogs haircuts. It is so funny, they didn't get any haircuts..... :-) Anyway, two days later I start to notice that hair on both of my yorkies start to fall out, especially on the head, skin turned pink and bloody red where it fell off. I gave them a bath myself with my organic doggie shampoo. And imagine what, all allergy is gone.
Probably one of the best pet stores I've been to in a long time. I use to manage a pet store years back and my priorities were always keeping a clean store and customer service. Healthy Spot has both. Going to the bigger chain stores always have employees that are always talking to each other and are never knowledgeable about the food or products. I also like the fact that they are very green and healthy. Thanks guys for a great pet store. Now open one in WeHo :-)
After doing a lot of reading about the pet food industry, I have switched from commercial brand kibble to specialty pet food. I saw an advertisement in a magazine about Healthyspot and decided to check them out. The shop is clean and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.
I spoke to co-owner Mark B. who spent a lot of time helping me find a healthy, low fat, no grain, high quality dog food. I had originally went in to pick up some dry kibble, but wanted to get the opinion of someone who does this for a living. Mark explained that even kibble made with healthy ingredients isn't as nutritious as raw and dehydrated diets due to the intense heat used to bake the kibble. He was not pushy, rather the information that he provided me made a lot of sense. I walked out with some bully sticks (the urethra of a bull that makes an excellent chew toy/dental cleaning tool) and a box of dehydrated dog food. The bully sticks are completely digestible --unlike raw hide-- and won't cause choking, upset stomachs, or more serious conditions such as pancreatitis. The dehydrated food (made by the Honest Kitchen) comes in 10 lb boxes, however they make 45 pounds of food after you add water. It is completely human grade quality and contains freshly dehydrated fruits, vegetables and meat.
Although the products are much more expensive than the junk food available at national pet food retailers and markets, it is well worth it. I used to spend $20/month on dog "food". Now I spend $70. Yes, it's more expensive, but if you compare it to the amount you spend on yourself on going out to eat , it's not much at all! Although I don't make a habit of it, I've spent $70 on myself for one meal. My dogs and their health are absolutely worth $70 a month for fresh, nutritious food!
Pros: My dogs now have thick, healthy coats. They love their bully sticks and pet food. Customers can sign up for a free membership which gives you a discount off your food purchases. The prices of the pet food is the same in store as it is if you buy it directly from the manufacturer.
Cons: It is a little far from where I live. Other than food, they have accessories and toys for small dogs, but not a lot of stuff for big dogs.
Woof Woof!!! RRRRRRRufff! (pictures posted, check it out!!!)
if you know me, "KNOW ME" ya'll know i WUV dogs ... and if you do too, and if you OWN one or KNOW OF SOMEONE who does, this is the place for you~!!!!
and with that, i will be *extremely* biased with this review ... i can't help it ... 2 of my best guy friends (check out the pictures! =D sry to A & M for snapping pictures when you fools weren't ready) have recently opened up a "healthy spot" in LA, in santa monica, to be exact, for doggies to the public ... before i went down to san diego and mexico this past weekend, i made a QUICK* stop to santa monica to check out their store after it was opened ...
this is DOGGIE HEAVEN fo sheeeeez ... this has EVERYTHING for you doggie lovers ... why not treat your dog with the fullest w/organic goodies, grooming, etc etc ... with an experience that is truly unforgettable... HSLA, your neighborhood green, organic, & modern dog retail store offering premium products, salon/spa tx, and a daycare w/puppy preschool... it gets even better!!
so yes, i was HONORED to attend the GRAND OPENING EVENT on 5/31 to celebrate the birth of HSLA ... =D thx to andrew & mark, hehe, and it was DEFINITELY great seeing you guys this weekend too!
why not pamper your best friend by enrolling him/her to puppy preschool? for puppies 3-12mos, HS provides a monitored environment where puppies can interact w/each other and begin proper socialization for a healthier lifestyle... this is not only very important but it helps prevents future behavioral problems... keep in mind, ALL PUPPIES MUST BE HEALTHY AND FULL VACCINATED.. 10-4pm $36. they also have doggie day care, 1st day is free, 0-6hrs $29, 6-12hrs $2, and each additional dog, $8 off. you even get discounts too depending on how long you plan to keep him there. FYI, every 2 hrs, your dog will be taken on a 10min walk w/no extra charge, but if you'd like to request a 45 min walk, that's another $12, and to feed your dog, $5 more. the grass is actually real grass w/2cute lil fire hydrants... cool thing is, you can actually check up on your pooch if you have a web cam set up.. now tell me, is that COOL or WHAT? it also has its own climate control with its own ventilation system as well..
HS also raises the bar in grooming and provides high quality styling services keeping your dog's coat clean and shiny eco friendly products. each signature spa includes bath and brush, anal glands expression, ear cleaning & nail clipping. call for rates but they differ depending on whether they have short or long hair.
they also sell all sorts of cool goodies ... doggie pick up bags that are biodegradable, mats that are made out from plastic soda bottles, or you can make your own with over 20 diff kinds of fabrics, shampoos, organic fiber toys called "toughies" which is saliva resistant that's recycled, and if they toys rip, they will replace it for FREE. yup... for F-R-E-E! um, they also have flea/tick potions, cute shirts that ready "princess" "sweet pea" or "cupcake!" =D
they ALSO host special events such as doggie adoptions, puppy socializations, and more!
*you must provide HSLA with all vaccination records, and all dogs must be spayed or neutered.
just tell Andrew/Mark that Jen sent ya (no i ain't making any $ outta this, i'm doing this for the love of DOGS & for *burp* Andrew & Mark), and i can promise ya that you won't regret it & for surely they will take care of you!! if you really wanna get on their good side, you can get some mochi for Andrew and get NYY tickets for Mark =D
" healthy spot ... for your dog's mind, body and bowl "
Great place with great people. I'm never stepping foot inside another Petco ever again.
Update on Healthy Spot-- kick ass grooming. My dog looks like a superstar!!

I love this place.. and Ryley gets such a cute grooming :D
I enjoy visiting Healthy Spot b/c the owner is always in and comes across as really enjoying his work. I sent my poodle to Patricia who was extremely conscientious and concerned that I was happy with the cut. I find their prices to be reasonable. The shampoos, beds, etc. are definitely high - end but the food is the same as it is anywhere and the grooming is really reasonable.
So I'm not one of those foofy dog people who dresses up their dog and refers to it as a human child. But i do have a dog and he needed a bath. And healthy spot is walking distance from my house. So I called them up and they took him right away - literally as soon as I could walk him over. They had him ready exactly on time and gave me a full report - how he was a perfect angel for his nail trimming and the state of his anal glands (ew. this is why I pay other people to do these things). He looked great, smelled great and seemed happy as can be. And only $40! That's less than petco charges, and it always seems like petco is torturing your dog and not actually doing what you ask them to do anyway. I highly recommend.
