Marcus is the reason I have not run screaming from my life over the past few weeks.  He helped me in a crisis without an appointment, followed up with me multiple times to make sure I was okay, and forgave me for accidentally scheduling an appointment on the wrong day.

I am not exaggerating when I say I don't know where I'd be right now if it weren't for him.

I went to Marcus when he was in Santa Cruz and cannot begin to say how much I miss his excellent work.

I've had plantarfaciatis since I was in 3rd grade and chronic back pain since I was 16, so lets just say I've been to a TON of different chiropractors, specialist, and physical therapists over the years. I really love physical therapists because they actually help you help yourself, but they don't really do much for serious RIGHT NOW pain. Marcus was really the first person to help me heal in the now and give me a really good plan to keep myself healed. For me he mostly did Tui Na massage therapy and a bit of acupuncture, but I know he approaches each person as an individual with individual needs. You won't get a cookie cutter treatment.

His treatment helped me move through one of the worst periods of back pain in my life and later with my first experience with too much computer time (I didn't realize before that your whole arm could tingle ALL DAY LONG). I wouldn't call Tui Na massage relaxing or super comfy or anything like what most people think massage is. It's more like your muscles are getting worked in way that makes the pain stop afterwards and makes your body prefer a more movement friendly alignment. I may not have fallen asleep on the table, but I always felt refreshed and better after Tui Na therapy.

The best part of getting treatment from Marcus is that the exercises and advice he gave me actually work! I know, you're thinking "don't all the exercises and advice health practitioners (HPs) give work?" Nope! I've collected a laundry list of lifestyle choices, exercises/stretches over the years and weeded out the ones that don't do much for me through processes of elimination. Every single exercise/stretch that Marcus gave me is sitting firmly at the very top of my list.

I'm the first to admit that the "chronic" part of my back pain is due to being a little inconsistent about taking care of myself. Most of the time I'm really good about noticing when I'm slipping and can whip into shape again. Occasionally, for whatever reason, I don't pay attention to the warning signs and let myself get really injured. Sometimes other HPs have either made me feel like a bad person for not taking 110% care of myself all the time or have acted like my body was totally unrelated to me and was doing things behind my back that I would never be able to control (anyone else sick of chiropractors who seem to just want your money?). Marcus empowered me to take responsibility and control over my health and never made me feel bad or like I wasn't trying hard enough.

I miss his great work, but I can honestly say I don't need him quite as much as I used to. I haven't had a single major problem since he help me and I'm much better about nipping issues in the bud since he provided me with a strategy that works so well.

My boyfriend received acupuncture treatments from him for back/neck pain (he was in a car accident) and had really incredible results. He was a little skeptical at first, but after going to a chiropractor for a month and a half who just made things worse, he finally took my advice and saw Marcus. He instantly started regaining mobility and got relief from the pain that was making it impossible to heal.

Marcus is a top notch health care provider. From the moment I started describing the numbness and arm pain that gets so difficult to work through, I knew I could rest assured that I'd come to the right person.
He listened very well to my concerns.  He then asked a slew of questions, sussing out what made it worse and ultimately what would make it better.  After running through some tests like pushing on my head and feeling my arm muscles to make sure he knew exactly where the nerve was having problems, he was able to tell me what was causing my pain and give me his honest opinion about how well it would respond to his care... which in my case has been much better than I would have imagined!
On top of being very experienced in the workings of the body, he obviously stays up to date on innovative treatments and cares a lot about helping people.
Lastly, Marcus' treatments are very relaxing. It's sooo much nicer than going to other doctors, because on top of getting a working diagnosis, and some schooling about how to take better care of yourself, you leave feeling fabulous!!

History

Established in 2006

I found acupuncture through a personal injury I had in 1999.  A wall fell on me while I was working in the construction industry which resulted in a severe back injury.  I went through Physical Therapy, Surgery, and Chiropractic care and nothing really worked for me.  My Physical Therapist at the time recommended me to her friend, who was an Acupuncturist, that visit changed my life forever.  I started Healthy Lives Acupuncture to give back to the community and to help people live the greatest lives that they possibly can.

Plain and simple, the vision and philosophy of Healthy Lives Acupuncture is to keep active people active and doing what they love, pain-free. Core to this philosophy is the belief that Traditional Asian Medicine (acupuncture, Chinese Herbology, Nutrition and Exercise) and modern Western Medicine need to be united in an integrative approach to provide patients with the highest level of care.
