2224 J StThis place is great! I was so sore after my first class but it was such a good sore. I felt like my whole body had been worked out. The instructors are quite nice and very personable. I've only taken a couple of classes but I'm enjoying myself thus far. Our instructor is funny and has great stories. She fills the class time with good celebrity gossip and whatnot so you forget (momentarily) that your legs are burning. I'm looking forward to trying some of the different classes that they offer. I went ahead and took the plunge and bought a package of classes so I should be in great (or at least not quite as bad) shape by the summer.

After my first pilates class at Healthy Habits, I could not walk/run/bend/move for 1.5 days. The pilates class at 5:30 lasts for an hour and during that hour the instructor takes every part of our bodies and BEATS THEM UP. But, in a good way. My friend and I loved it! It's fairly reasonably priced- 15 per class. We also tried yoga here and the instructor (still don't know their names-we've only gone 3 times) was really nice. The only problem I had is that my friend and I are quite afraid to walk in right on time or 30 seconds late for fear of getting reamed with a pilates mat from the front desk lady. And if you are late, you have to put your mat right in the middle of the room due to no more room on the sides....it feels like they are all singing that song.."the cheese stands alone" about me.
Anyways, I am thinking of taking the strippercize class next. I will be heading to Healthy Habits tonight for pilates and look forward to the pain....and I will arrive 3 minutes early.

HH is a great place to get the attention you deserve when you want to commit to a body change. Rose Zahn (owner) is very knowledgeable (UCLA graduate). The atmosphere is fun and energetic. Not only does the studio offer personal training and intense nutrition classes, they offer a variety of great classes. Try their Dance X or Boot camp...those two classes together are taking my backside to another level...and I have been a runner (12-20 miles per week) for years!

I HATE working out. HATE...IT. With a passion. But a few friends and I decided to try the Stippercize class at HH. I gave them 5 stars because I actually had fun! Can you believe it? Me! It is an aerobics class based on moves an exotic dancer may use. No poles in this class (that's the next class I'm taking). No removal of clothes. It's just a really fun aerobics class...and it kicked my a$$....literally!
Rose, the instructor/owner was so much fun. I had a hard time with some of it because I have asthma and aerobics always do that to me, but usually I just want to quit when that happens. But she made it enough fun where I hung in there and just took a break here and there rather than quitting.
If you want a fun workout, some laughs and all for a reasonable price...hit up HH!!

Admittedly, I'm a bit biased (I work the front desk on occasion), but I LOVE it here... which is why I work the front desk on occasion!! :-)
I started taking classes here a few years ago and - for the first time in my life - discovered that my arms had muscles. Biceps, triceps AND delts, oh my! I became hooked on Pilates and threw in a couple of Yoga classes in here and there... mainly because I loved the staff.
So... when I came back to Sac last August, one of the first stops I made was to HH. Although some of the instructors had changed, the vibe was still the same - friendly, laid-back and totally supportive - not to mention FUN!
I have yet to make it to a Dance-X class, but based on the laughter, whoops and stomping I hear sitting at the front desk, I think it's definitely worth a look-see. I'm currently doing a group training class and have to say that the trainers do a great job of customizing the workout for each one of us in the group.
Although it might seem a bit estrogen-heavy, guys are totally welcomed, too.
Check out their website for updated class schedules... or, better yet, stop by the studio. There are always updated schedules out on the porch, so that you don't feel "pressured" to come in... that's just how they roll. ;-)

I've attended quite a few yoga classes here taught by various teachers and I have enjoyed all of them! They all have very distinct styles and personalities, which I appreciate. Personally, I hate going to yoga classes held in gyms on a basketball court so the fact that this place is in an old Victorian with midget lights strung around the ceiling makes me very happy. The downside is that it gets a little cramped. They used to offer a stripper aerobics class that I was always intrigued by, but I don't know if that is still on the menu. And they offer pilates as well. The whole staff seems very friendly and genuinely invested in promoting a healthy lifestyle, which is also something you don't get at a typical gym.

I found myself strolling up J Street a few months back (which I had not done for SO long) when my curiosity was piqued by the convenient class schedules and Healthy Habits information available for me to grab as I walked by. I literally would never have guessed that a converted Victorian would be the home to one of the most fun, best workouts I've had in recent memory. I thought I would just suck it up and pay for a few yoga classes because the freebies with my 24 Hour Fitness membership just weren't cutting it but instead I followed the advice of my friends Teri Hatcher and Kate Hudson who swear that aerobics classes based on stripper moves are kick ass and fun at the same time. Okay, the Strippercize class here is so great! The studio is a bit small and gets hot really quickly (definitely don't overdress even if you think it's cold outside) but the red twinkling lights and seriously fun workout totally make up for those minor issues! I kid you not, take this class here---it's easy, makes you laugh, works your whole body, and adds a little bit of a saunter to your step.
Despite the fact that my legs kind of weren't working right after the millions of lunges and squats we did to prime our stripper bods (oh, I should mention that you really aren't stripping nor are you rockin on any poles nor are you wearing 9 inch plastic stillettos---it's more like saying that you do kickboxing because you take a martial arts inspired aerobics class at your gym but I digress), I checked out the rest of the place to find a really clean, fun spot to get in shape. There is a great combination of high intensity, more advanced yoga and fitness classes coupled with mellow ways to work out too. I just got an overall wellness sense about Healthy Habits without having to face an abundance of bamboo, fountains, and zen gardens which are often there to overcompensate for a lackluster energy and vibe of a place. In this case, you just know that you're in a relaxing, positive, healthy zone---plus you don't have to look far to get a killer workout!
