This review is specifically for Jenn.  She rocks.  This was the best massage I've gotten.  I went in for a 90 minute pregnancy massage. I was sooooo comfortable.  She really helped alleviate some aches and pains I have gotten lately.

I really love this place.  $50 for a 60 minute massage, $75 for a 90 minute.  Great deal.

    Tips:
    - PB is busy at night.  Remember to plan accordingly.
    - Parking is paid or street (if you're lucky).  They will ticket your vehicle if you don't pay
    - If you like your masseuse, remember their name and request them
    - Specify the pressure you like

This is a pretty solid place. Maybe hit and miss depending on your masseuse.

I like that it's no fuss, no muss. You can concentrate on your problem areas, work it out and you're ready.

Don't expect waterfalls and cocktails. The price is right in my book.

Well, first this review has to do more with my wife and sister, as they are the ones that actually had the massages.  Recently, we took a trip to Pacific Beach.  We rode our bikes on the boardwalk into Mission Beach and back. We had an appointment here as I had called a few days earlier for a reservation w/ creditcard. I spoke with Nancy.  But by that afternoon, we were running late. This was our first time in PB, so there was alot to see.   We called the office and told them we were running late. She said to come in anyway and that they could see us.   I couldn't find the place because the exit was off the main street (Not on Garnet - it's off Cass St). We made it and walked upstairs.

The setting was very office like.  Although when you wal into the actual office, the walls are painted a soothing sand color, there are flowers.  But I expected an aroma or even some water fountains etc.  Anyhow, the receptionists were great and friendly.  Check in was easy - although they were expecting us after my 2 phone calls.   I went to the men's room and it was NOT clean.  I'm sure this is the employee/customer restroom but it was not at all what I expected.

The massage: The girls stayed had their massage.  About 40 minutes later, they came out.  Both liked their massage but one said their massuesse seemed rushed, and it was not a full body massage - her legs weren't done, whereas the other one had a full body.   There was no complaint on the technique.  The oils definitely stayed with them as there is no shower (bad), only a room to change in.  Regardless, both girls enjoyed their massage.

My only complaint would be not getting the full 60 minutes worth and being charged for the full 60 minutes.  Although we were late, you should get what you paid for - we paid for 60min and got 40min worth.  Nevertheless, I DID NOT make an issue of it.   Why? The girls had a enjoyable experience, the prices are low to begin with, and everyone was friendly and welcoming.

I recommend this place.  I would definitely return when in Pacific Beach - this time I'll be EARLY!

I've been to this spot a handful of times and am not sure how to start this review since I have mixed feelings. Overall, I really like this place mostly because it's the perfect place to visit if you don't care about the luxury of a high-end spa and just want to get the knots out. The price for an hour is perfect. I think it's $55 now? And yes, the service depends on which masseuse you get. I once has a male masseuse who sniffled through the entire hour, making me feel more gross than relieved. But, I've also found the wonderful Kim Emmett who is the only masseuse I've found in all of SD who can thoroughly relieve my tension headaches without me feeling like crap the next day. I like that I've been able to make same day appointments. Parking can be difficult if you go on the weekend.

Pros: Being able to get in the day I called, very cheap massage.

Cons: They use oil instead of massage cream so be prepared to go home and shower. My Masseuse slathered it on during the massage.

The masseuse I had was fine but I could definitely tell he was either still in massage school or recently graduated. He did a lot of stuff that involved bouncing me on the bed which did nothing for my muscles. I don't know what technique they learned but I don't think it was Swedish.

The building has old a very "institutional" feeling, they do play music and try to have candles going but it is a bit creepy. The head rest of my massage table was cracked and peeling and I was worried about resting my face on it for an hour.

If your desperate and need a quick, convenient cheap massage this place is probably fine. I'd say its a bit more relaxing than a "Chinese foot massage" type place but definitely not as clean. I don't think I'll be going back.

Very good massage. This, coming from someone with somewhat high standards. It was some kind of combination between relaxing (deep tissue) and stretching, which isn't quite as relaxing but is extremely effective. I also had the hot towel treatment, which is ~$9 more. The masseuse was Nick, and would recommend him.

5 stars based on my amazing masseuse, Andrea. 3 stars for the set up (very office like and the music kept going in and out). The price was good: $50 for an hour. Andrea used perfect pressure, went to town on the knots in my back and neck and left me feeling super relaxed. I might have even confessed my love for her when it was over. Can't be sure, as I was floating on a cloud. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in Pacific Beach!

I have been coming here for 10 years, when it was a "massage school" and the cost was only $25 for a one hour massage.  At $45 for a massage, it's a good price. For "holidays" (like Mother's day, Xmas, etc.) the special is 3 massage gift certificates for $125.

It depends on who the individual massage therapist is ... I like deep tissues sports massage and generally request a male (bigger and stronger hands).  Generally, I have been pleased with 90% of the massage therapists--it's important to be clear upfront and specific about what you like and don't like.  Then I just continue to make appointments with those therapists.

You get a private room with music, but no "locker" to secure your belongings. Soft music is in the background too.  It's not all fancy like a high end spa, but it is fine.

Parking used to be free in the lot behind the building but now it's $3, unless you find street parking.

I am a regular customer because I can usually get an appointment with little notice (sometimes same day) and it's open from 9 am to 9 pm.

I love this place. At $45 for one hour (yes you heard right, one hour...not 50 min, not 55 min...) you cant go wrong. Ive been there 4 times so far and the first three were excellent. The most recent was a little bit rougher than Im used to but he still managed to put me to sleep lol. They have specials going on all the time and you can sign up for their email list to be notified when theyre going on.

There is ample street parking around the area or a parking lot right next door for $3/hr.

The waiting room isnt flashy, so dont expect it to be equivalent to a hollywood spa, but it works for me. They have a little water cooler with lemons in it that you can help yourself to either while you wait or after your massage.
The things that I like about this place:
    1. Easy to access (parking)
    2. Appointment not necessary days in advance (each time Ive gone in, I called that day as a spur of the moment type deal lol)
    3. Inexpensive :) as comparable to the usual $80-$120 for 50-55 min.
    4. Friendly staff that ask you what body parts to work on or be careful around and how much pressure you like (BIG PLUS IN MY BOOK)
    5. lemon water after my massage :)

In fact, I think I might get one today...lol.

I love this place! Who doesn't appreciate getting a same day appointment? And at $45 a pop, it's a steal! Why spend more than you have to for a great experience?

The facilities were nice, and the staff friendly. I loved their pale bamboo floors and white walls. The lighting in the hallway was a nice touch, too. It just felt really peaceful in there. I actively looked to see if it was dirty (based on Ron's review) but it wasn't. The place was clean and I felt very comfortable. My therapist was fantastic, too.

The only reason I'm knocking off a star is because the PB traffic and parking situation can be a pain sometimes. This is something outside of the Center's control, but for me personally, it's tough to get into PB. If I lived there, though, I'd be there on a weekly basis! :)  I'm glad I went, and I'll be back again.

Whacked! This place is straight bunk. I been there twice hoping the next session would be good. Its not that good. Here are my reasons:

First $45 for massage? Yeah. I know the economic climate is tight, but you can still get a $45 massage at any other massage school, namely IPSB. Plus, if you spend ten bucks more you can get a more skilled professional instead of someone that is just testing the waters on your muscles, tendons, joints and skin.

Second, the place feels and looks like a hospital in the Northeast, instead a holistic school near the beach of San Diego. The floors are cold and they use florescent lights in the hallways. The few pictures that hang is not thought out and just hung haphazardly just to cover white space.

Third, I went in one of the rooms and it was freakin cold! WTF! I asked for another blanket so I didnt have goosebumps the entire massage session. It was so cold that I think the massage oil congealed into something like Crisco on my back. Again WTF!

Lastly, the original student who was supposed to give me a massage didnt bother showing up, just like he was ditching a boring class, so I had to wait an extra 20 minutes for a replacement. To some credit, the staff did there best to accommodate me by giving me $10 credit next visit, but I wont be redeeming that credit anytime soon.

I admit it, I'm a total massage lush. I will jump on any opportunity to get a good massage. So obviously when I saw the Groupon for 2 massages for $45, and there were good reviews on Yelp, I thought, how could I resist?!

Well, I went in to get the first of my 2 massage about a week ago, and I have to say that I was a little disappointed with my experience. I wasn't really expecting a world class spa or anything, but setup and the experience in general was just not the relaxing time I was looking for.

For starters, trying to decide between paying for the lot next to it, or finding free parking on the crowded street is a stressful experience in itself. Since this is not directly reflective of this actual place, I digress.

When you first walk into the office, you'd never tell that this is a place where you can get massages. It looks, feels, and operates pretty much like a doctor's office. The staff was friendly, and I didn't have to wait long for my masseuse.

As for the actual massage, the masseuse wasn't bad, but in comparison to the other massages I've had (which range in terms of quality/cost), it just wasn't very professional. The room was pretty much an empty beige-ish room with a massage bed, a small poster, and a small counter. No music. From the random class I took on giving massages, I was taught that if you get a massage from a pretty amateur masseuse, you'll just get a lot of petrissage movement (basically just kneading and pressure). And that's pretty much all it was. It wasn't bad, but it was only worth about as much as I paid at discount for the groupon. The worst part was hearing people talking in the hallway while I was getting my massage. That really messed with the whole "trying to relax" thing.

Bottom line is, I don't know if I'll come back for my second massage, but if the deal were to come up again, I wouldn't buy it again. There are a lot of places in San Diego that have comparable prices and better environment/service.

I was honestly quite torn over whether to give four or five stars... which should right away tell you that I think very highly of it after my first visit today!  I decided to hold back on the 5-star rating because as a massage place in general, it was good.  But once you take into account the fact that these are students, and you're only paying $45... well that's when you start thinking 5-stars!

Perhaps I lucked out, but my student masseuse (Justine) was far superior to many non-student (and FAR more expensive) massages I've gotten in the past.  After reading a bunch of the other reviews here on http://Yelp.com, I was a little nervous about going, but here's another nice little feature of this place:

They tend to have GREAT availability.  So I was able to call in at about 2pm, and had an appointment set for 6pm.  Perfect, since I was in a desperate attempt to "fix" my back after tweaking it hard core the day before.

For a massage parlor, it is somewhat no frills... but still everything was very nice, overall, and that goes especially for the most important room to you, the customer:  The room where you get your actual massage.  The room temperature was perfect, soft music was playing, there was a very relaxing & pleasant aroma, and basically everything was great.

In short, don't fear as I did.  Give it a try, if you're willing to give up on just a little bit of the luxury that normally might come before & after a massage, I believe you are likely to get a massage that absolutely rocks... and you're going to get it for cheap.  I tipped way high in delight & appreciation (and cuz I remember what it's like to be a student), and the total still came out far less than what I'd pay any place else!

I have never gotten a massage, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  I'm glad that I had a male masseuse, so he wasn't chatty cathy at all, I think he only said like 8 words the whole time, which is awesome.

The facility is nice, but the bathrooms are a little janky.  Worth it for a $45/ hour massage.  I will definitely be back.

What's not to love about an hour-long massage that only costs $45 plus tip?  I heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a shot after waking up on a Sunday morning with an aching lower back (the cause of which I'll keep to myself, thank you very much).  I called the School of Healing Arts in PB and was amazed to get an appointment that same morning!
The massage was terrific, I was asked if I had any problem areas and after describing my back issue and also sneaking in a meek request for a footrub, I was ushered into a quiet lowlit room where soft Enya-ish music was playing.   My massage therapist Michael did a fantastic job, it was just what I needed and afterward my back was pain-free.  A completely relaxing experience that didn't deflate my wallet - 'nuff said!

I tried this place out the other day. My regular masseuse was out of town on vacation and my neck was killing me from spending too much time on my back working on my car the day before.

The gentleman answered the phone politely and promptly, and was able to get me in that evening.

I arrived on time and the massage started on time. It was a full 60-minutes. The room was quiet, warm and dim. The facility itself isn't that fancy but its not a spa, and some people writing reviews are critiquing it like one.

The skillset of my masseuse was exceptional. She use the skin rolling technique I love so much, and took some requests (such as jaw work and wrist stretches) which she performed admirably well. I forgot to get her name because I was in such a daze after the massage.

    Highly recommended.

When I didn't have a boyfriend I would be here at least once a week!

Massages are one of my answers to being happy and balanced, Healing Arts has quality massage therapists (they are not students), last appointment is taken at 8:45 PM, same day appointments are sometimes available, refer three people and get a free massage, you don't have to pay extra for deep tissue, usually a good variety of both men and women therapists, receptionists are friendly and give good advice for therapists, and you can usually try someone new all the time.

My only bad experience out of over 60 times was a therapist who was a little over weight. Beads of sweat dropped on me at least 3 times until I finally couldn't stand it anymore and told him to please towel off.

Other than that, I would spend my savings on this place...oh, and massages are only $45...please be considerate with your tips - the therapists really do work hard for you...

Inexpensive massage- at $45 each, I am seriously tempted to just get 1 a week.   I could use that!  I've always called and made same day appointments, which is terrific for somebody who has an incredible volatile schedule like me.  I really liked Andy, who is there on some Saturdays.

Thinking about it makes me want to get a massage right now.

It is true that they don't offer you water.  I was told to go to the corner store a block away.  And the bathroom is not so great either, but I can deal for a good cheap massage.

Ha, I think I had the same masseuse as Sarah S.  AWESOME massage, but a little lacking in the bedside manner.  I couldn't even find him afterwards to thank him!  Absolutely worth the $45, and I really like that they don't use oil (or if they did it was extremely light).  There is nothing like walking out of a massage with butterhead!
    I'll definitely be back.
Use one of the numerous $5 lots within one block to ensure that you are on time, as their appointments fill up very fast.  If you are late, you will most likely get your massage cut short.

Last night 5 of us girlfriends had girls night at Healing Arts Massage & Wellness Center.  We each had a massage scheduled.  Our check in was easy, they asked specific questions that pertained to our particular needs and at the end of the hour massage, all 5 of us women had distinctly different, WONDERFUL massages!  My particular massage with Kim was amazing.  She focused on my neck and shoulders like I had requested, and I feel more loose, less tense and can actually breathe deeper!  This was our first time here and the treatments were fantastic and really worth the value.  We all discussed how we have paid over $100 for a Massage before and that this was as professional, relaxing, renewing and in some cases even better AND it was $50-$65!  (Some of us got the Hot Stone or Hot Towel treatment added~ Ahhhh!)

I highly recommend Healing Arts Massage & Wellness Center.  We all would Definitely come back!  It was extra fun doing it with girlfriends and then going out to dinner afterward.  Thank you, Healing Arts!

I love this place and have been going off and on for over 6 years, even after they raised their prices. I have never had a bad massage! I like that you can usually get an appointmnet the day-of, and they work to accomodate you.

They staff is very friendly and although the center itself lacks some of the ambiance of a higher end spa, once you are on the table listening to soft music it doesn't even matter. The therapists alwasy ask what areas you need worked on and are sensative to the pressure you like.

I still like to try out other massage places via groupon or yelp, but find that I always can count on HA to be a great consistent and very awesome massage!

Prices are up to $45, but still, that is a fantastic price for an hour massage.
The facilities are super clean and very quiet. They usually can get you in the day of calling, although if you are picky about who your masseuse is make sure to call a day or two ahead.
I'm pretty sure they offer free parking in the back, which is a nice convenience in PB.
From what I've seen most of the people that work there are professionals look to expand their network, so chances are you will end up with a professional and not a student.

Don't really have to say much. I felt drunk after I walked out of the building. I was so relaxed that it took me 5 minutes just to pay the guy. My masseuse, JJ, wailed on my outer legs. You know the kind of deep massage that almost hurts... but you don't want it to stop... and you kinda go numb... but you deal because you assume he knows what he's doing...? It was that. A couple times.

My favorite part though was when he worked on my neck. He held my head with one hand and hypnotically destressed my lower head and neck with the other. No joke, I felt like I was 2 again and most certainly almost fell asleep.

The atmosphere felt a bit sterile (which isn't bad I guess) and had nice music playing in the background. It wasn't uber friendly, but everyone felt very relaxed. Not rushed at all. I heard "take your time" before and after my massage, which I did.

Oh, and by the way... it's CHEAP! $45 for an hour massage. Do it. If you want to treat yourself, try this place.

You can not beat the price. But the massage is surely surely forgetable. Maybe i'm just biased cause i'm alomst finishing massage student.

I came here in need of a massage, and i thought it would be nice to get out of my own massage school setting and my classmates. I wasn't expected anything spectacular, cause they were students, so i empathized with them. but man the massage was just so bleah. too apathetic for my liking.

My therapist had lacking in communication skills and the protocol i was use to or merely expected wasn't address. Her strokes wheren't full, not enough connection and I can feel the uneasiness in her hands.  Yes i Know shes a student but it felt like a "day one" student.

I'm tempted to go back, just to have a nother therapist, cause i'm pretty sure there are better therapist there, i just happened to get a newbie.

I called the School of Healing Arts in Pacific Beach last year on the recommendation of a friend. A friend of mine and I had the day off and last minute decided that we really needed a good massage. We were so excited that they were able to find appointments for both of us early that same afternoon! I was a little anxious though because they only had male therapists available and I had only had a massage by a female therapist in the past. It was actually the best massage that I had ever had and not akward at all. My friend agreed!
I just now made another appointment for this afternoon and I'm excited about having another great massage. I have had a lot of tension in my sholders, neck and back which is causing severe headaches. They were able to set me up with a therapist who specializes in deep tissue and it available when I get off work this afternoon! Fantastic!

I'm a huge fan of massage but it's never been something I went and paid for. It was usually from a friend or spouse. That being said, I needed a real massage.

I've been under a lot of stress, not sleeping well and constantly feeling like I was coming down with a cold. I see a chiropractor regularly due to a car accident and had been aching for a massage as the adjustments weren't cutting it. After three weeks, I gave in!

I scheduled an appoint for Sunday evening after spending the weekend frumping around in my PJ's. It was the best decision I'd made in a long time! $65 for a one hour full body massage including aroma therapy for my migraines (and it did help) as well as hot towels for my sore back and legs.

Kim is amazing and very sweet. I left feeling relaxed and slept for 12 hours straight! The best money I could have spent on myself.

Enter the building on the Cass side of the street, up the stairs, and into a barren reception area.  I can get over the worn Ikea furniture, ratty pillows, and 2005 editions of The Reader.  This isn't a zen spa with candles, warm lights, and fountains.  I'm ok with that.

Instead, you get a fantastic deal for a $45 1-hr massage (they may even give you a $5 discount if you can get a friend to sign up at the same time).  I can call a day in advance or even the same day and get squeezed in.  They've got enough therapists there with varied backgrounds that you can ask for a deep tissue, sports massage, Thai massage. Scott gave me a decent sports massage.  I think he may have ran out of time, because my left leg didn't get as much love as the rest!

If you can get over the lack of cucumber water and lavender essence, then you'll get a decent massage to work out the kinks.

This place is OK.  I thought it would a great place considering all the rave reviews.  My therapist was a guy and he was creepy looking.  Like, if he was in an elevator alone with me, I'd get creeped out.  I've had massages by men  before, so I'm not just saying this because I don't like massages by men.  His massage was ehhhh...it was OK, it was like a Massage Envy quality type of massage.

They also don't offer water after the massage.  That's really cheap of them.  Water is cheap and I'm sure little plastic or paper cups wouldn't break the bank.

I found this place while shopping on Garnett last summer. I sure wish I remembered the therapist name. He was so spiriutal and had such incredibly calming energy that gave me an overall feeling of calmness, serenity and total contentment. It felt more like a spiritual cleansing and energy boost when I left. I slept so well that night. I could not pay this guy such a nominal fee for his services. He deserves 2 to 3 times what they charged. It was truly the best massage I have ever received.

I plan to try and seek him out, will update if I get his name.

I've been to the Healing Arts Center a few times and have had pretty good experiences. It's pretty much the only place I'd let a dude touch me in ways no other dude can. The price is very reasonable, and best of all, they take walk ins if they aren't busy. They also have promotions there like if you get a massage, get a free burrito.

    So aces.

    Massage.
    Burrito.
Dude touching another dude in a total PG fashion.

    Cheap.

It'll leave you feeling like a million bucks when you're done. I can't wait to book another appointment!

3 more massages and I'm still a fan.  The roster seems to change quite often so it's hard to get regulars.  So sometimes I like the masseuses better than other times.  One time, I got sort of a big girl with sweaty hands and I swear her armpit dripped a drop of sweat on my back. :(

Anyhow, the quality of the massages are still good.  Just know that sometimes it's hit or miss with particular person you may get.  Definitely remember the names of the people you like.

This place is a fantastic spot. We're talking about a full hour deep tissue massage for $45 bucks people. Yes it's a school but I've been here many, many times and the students are great. It's $45 bucks! You can pretty much just book one without sweating over the cost, and you WILL walk away all noodley (I'm almost sure that's not a word but you get the jist). I've had massages here that were just good, and I've had others that were downright amazing, but at this cost, you should just be happy you're getting all the knots rubbed out in a nice clean and quiet setting. Parking in PB is horrible but otherwise a lovely experience. I wish I could find a suitable sub up in SF.

So after hearing about this place both from co workers and on yelp, i made an appointment and stopped by this evening. I was in an accident on 5 by the 805 interchange on monday and i figured this would be a good way to get the knots out. All i have to say is that i'm not going back to my regular spa for my massage. This place rocks! They raised the price by 5 bucks since last week, but its still so worth it.

I called yesterday morning and got an appointment with Heather in the afternoon for deep tissue massage.  I was well worth the $45 price.  I highly recommend her.  She is a skilled therapist.  The massage room is clean with clean sheet.   The office is OK not fancy.  I don't want to pay for the fancy spa ambience.   The negative part of this establishment is the bathroom which shared with different tenants in the building.
