So, Headliners has its downsides: the women's bathroom is always flooded, the wait at the bar can be excruciating, and if you get the wrong bartender you'll be drinking Coke with a splash of bourbon. I've seen a lot of shows in a lot of cities, though, and so I've learned to appreciate a lot of things about Headliners. Having a balcony with seating is awesome--so if you want to kick back during a show and just watch the action, get there early and score some action on the railing. The elevated back bar is also great, so that when you're standing in line you're at least rewarded with a clearer view of the stage. There's also a side bar near the bathrooms, which is great to empty and immediately refill your bladder. And, although the women's bathroom floods, there are 6 or 7 stalls, which minimizes wait time.
And then there is the more important stuff: the club has great acoustics (although it's up to the sound person to get it right.) The stage is sizable and elevated enough to see from any point in the room. Not only do they book great touring acts, they also host a lot of great local events. The ticket prices are reasonable, and so a lot of things will sell out before the day of show--I highly recommend advance purchasing if it's something you really want to see.
Oh, one more thing worth noting: recently they lost access to their parking lot, which means you'll have to find parking on the street. If it's going to be a packed show, either get there early or be prepared to hike a couple of blocks.
Very cool place for music. This is probably my favorite stage to play on and the sound is pretty phenomenal- great system and great sound guys. Also a great place to see bands and there are usually always some cool groups playing here.
I look forward to working with Headliner's again in the future.
Headliner's has a good vibe going for it. The venue is more on the smaller side and more personable/intimate which is always nice. It's always way too smokey though.
I've seen several shows here now over the span of 7 years, including Son Volt and Wilco. It's a decent-sized venue with an interesting look (a former cafeteria for workers at Distllery Commons when it was part of an actual distillery).
Saw the Shack Shakers here in my first time in Louisville and I have to say I was impressed by this venue. $10 friday nite show and $3 beers; it had a mixed crowd that drank with enthusiasm. I really liked the fresco paintings on the wall and how they pimped out the professional sound equipment in the center of the room in front of the elevated bar area. Acoustic paneling and the real aluminum stage rig? Huge plus, great sound. Don't miss.
