Karen and John- the owners are sweet and great at what they do.
The place is a short, nice walk through downtown healdsburg to get to the square.. wine tasting and restaurants. Karen is a world of information and will spend all the time with you that you need to figure out your trip of places to visit.
Breakfast is amazing!!! I have not stayed there but I work in the industry and they were kind enough to invite us for a preveiw. John was chef and man oh man, you will know it! The tables are sweet, you are greeted by Karen with coffee and fresh squeezed juices.. the coffee is thee best coffee I have had in a long time, usually I use some milk but this is delicious with no additions.
The food is amazing and the presentation is nice as well. They are good hosts and if I didn't live here I would stay there!
Stayed at the Haydon Inn during the Barrel Tasting weekend. B&B's normally required a 2 day min. stay but the Haydon Inn was very accommodating and allowed me to make 1 night reservation. I booked the Cottage Suite (1 bedroom) which was lovely. The cottage has a private entrance and back patio with patio furniture and Jacuzzi. It also has a big kitchen and living room, perfect for entertaining. I was wine tasting with friends and invited them over after the event to hang out at the cottage while we waited to go to dinner. Downtown Healdsburg is within walking distance, just a few blocks from the Haydon Inn. Keren was very helpful and suggested that we call the restaurant in advance to be placed on a waiting list. Thank god we took Keren's advice because Willi's (fantastic tapas) has 10 indoor tables and it was jammed pack.
Did I mention that breakfast was awesome? To begin they served a chilled blueberry soup and scone, followed by a fresh fruit parfait, Eggs Benedict with home style potatoes. They served freshly squeezed orange juice and french pressed coffee.
The Haydon Inn was a great find and can't wait to go back.
we stayed here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely great. Karen and John are extremely nice and very helpful. They gave great recommendations on what to do and where to eat. The three course breakfast is a great idea for a solid foundation before a day of wine tasting. On tuesday nights they set up a blanket in the plaza for you to listen to live music. Other nights the six o clock wine hour is wonderful as well. I recommend staying in the cottage. It is wonderful. To the reviews of people who say Karen can be rude, it is not true. She is a very direct person, but not rude.
We all had a wonderful stay at the Haydon Street Inn in Healdsburg. The rooms are really nice and clean and the beds are to die for. The husband/chef is very lovely and helpful and easily approachable. Keren the co-owner tries her best to be hospitable but it doesnt appear easy for her. The outdoor area was great and we especially loved the 6 p.m. wine tastings with appetizers. Good food and very comfortable.
One star for rude staff. We thought the person's behavior was not conducive to fostering paying customer relations for repeat business. The inn is a large converted home with small bedrooms but very comfortable beds and a great front porch. Our room's closet is converted into a toilet and the shower is opposite the sink. They have a cottage in the back formerly occupied by the owners who now live across the street. On the plus side, the owners host a wine/cheese session at the end of the day, which isn't offered at most B&B's. The chef/owner is friendly and people focused who serves up great meals, can't say the same for the partner who can be quite surly. If you read the reviews on TripAdvisor, you'll learn about the consistently rude remarks or behavior bestowed upon guests. It's real people, different people from different places who are consistently making the same complaints.
I would give 3 and 1/2 stars if I could. My husband and I stayed at Haydon Street Inn and enjoyed our stay, and our review reinforces what's been said. We got a 'procrastinator's special' that Keren honored even though I hadn't mentioned it at first. The plusses: afternoon wine and cheese with quality wine the owners hand-picked. John's homemade pesto was delicious. The bed was incredible - soft, high-quality linens and wonderful pillows. En suite hot tub a big plus! :-) The square was a short walk away. Mimosa for breakfast - not your usual B&B fare. The minuses: the Rose Room is beneath the stairs and next to the living room, so you definitely get noise from upstairs. Keren is accommodating but I would agree with the other Yelper that it doesn't seem natural for her. Yet she and John are generous with their time and make arrangements to ensure your stay is enjoyable. I would definitely go back to Haydon Street, although it will likely be one of those last-minute decisions and specials again. Hey, that's why we live in SF, right?
