Thank you Laura and Jason Matthew Salon! Thank you for seeing me at 8:30 am on a Saturday, for carefully taking the time to make sure the water was just the right temperature, for the quick consult before we got started and for the amazing job you did with my hair.
Before this cut my long layers were just shaggy, my ends were split and the weight of my hair left zero room for volume. During our consult Laura quickly understood what I wanted, face framing layers & a couple inches off the bottom. My worst hair fear is the Asian mullet a la Carol Brady. Luckily I was in very capable hands.
Laura worked mostly with scissors, but finished off my layers with a razor. This great cut was followed by the best blowout I've ever had! Laura gave me tons of volume, and my hair fell perfectly in place remaining flawless for the rest of the weekend.
I'm making plans to save up for a Keratin treatment (yay!) with Laura & will definitely be back. She gave me the complete run down of the process and answered all my questions.
I should also note that I was not the only early bird on Saturday morning, the salon filled quickly with about 3-5 other clients each with their own stylist.

I'm not one to spend more than $20 on a haircut but this deal seemed to good to pass up. I went to Jason Matthews Salon for a haircut and had a great experience. I got it cut with Laura, who was very nice and attentive. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my hair since it's been lifeless for months and didn't want to lose length either. Laura made great suggestions and gave my hair lots of life. Without taking away much length, she gave it more volume and made my side swept bangs much fuller. The layers are nicely subtle and the blowout made it so pretty and soft. I got some good hair product advice from her as well. :) A $60 dollar haircut for $30?! NICE!!

I got a haircut here yesterday as part of the Hawt on Yelp promo. Jennie was so nice from the moment I got there. She was very accommodating and knowledgeable about how to cut my super curly hair. She recommended products that she liked and wasn't pushy about me buying them. No uptight feeling here either. Very relaxed atmosphere!
As was said before, it is very hard to find someone to cut curly hair well and Jennie did an awesome job! She didn't have to blow it out first to cut it like most people do and then end up with uneven curly hair. I really do recommend her to anyone looking for a curly stylist in the city. I LOVE my cut!
I didn't know there was a special section for this event so here's my review for Jason Matthews Salon. :)
I walked into the salon with my bushy hair piled up in a bun. I had to wait for a while because Jason was busy with another client. (my apointment was 1 I was seen around 1:30.) That was fine with me, I people watched from the wall of windows they have. (3rd story) Then, Jason floated over. He smiled, introduced himself and thanked me for my patience. He was so graceful (used to dance) that I nearly melted but I kept it in check.
Carol, the darling, she washed my hair. Her fingers were firm but gentle and caressing. The water temperature was perfect and I have to admit I was in Heaven. She has another year or so before she earns her chair and she's been there since they opened! I liked that. :) Then she whisked me into Jason's chair.
He began his magic. Snip snip snip. Smile smile smile. It went perfect. We talked, shared stories, it was easy and relaxing. All the sudden the time flies and I'm done! He begins his famous blow dry and I'm telling you. I. Look. AWESOME. My hair is the sleekest it has EVER been.
How much you ask? 35 dollars. Thanks Hawt On Yelp week!!!
Now while writing this I see Crystal E saying it was dirty... I actually complemented him because it was so clean. Carol came by and swept as I was there and the light was beautiful, the floors beautiful, it was very organized. Maybe she came on a busy day or an understaffed day?
You got to go and you HAVE to get Jason!!
PS, he offered to have me come by any time to get my bangs trimmed for free! What a doll.
My Hawt On Yelp Week review is for Jason Matthews Salon in Center City. My service was a haircut.
I have been to this salon before but it was my first time with stylist Bernedette. My experience with her was pretty good!
My hair: I have straight, thin, Asian hair that can be difficult for some to cut. It was about half way down my back with beautiful layers done by my stylist in Dallas. It is usually not this long but I had grown it out for a few reasons: had my wedding end of May in TX, was a bridesmaid on halloween weekend, being cheap. Well as said before, my hair grew about ~3 inches beautifully without any trim or maintenance after my Dallas hair cut.
Alas, with the Yelp promo and risk of looking like cousin It (I am very short), I took this opportunity to get a cut.
Service:
Bernedette is tall and blonde and beautiful and friendly. I felt at ease with her right away. She took time to listen to my concerns and desires. I just wanted to trim everything 3 inches and keep all the layers. I was also short on time and she took that into consideration as well. She got to work right away, took 3 inches off and also gave my hair some body and gave it some hairspray at the end. She really paid attention and focused on it even when she was blow drying.
I enjoyed chatting with her during the cut and the time when you just want to sit there and not talk was not uncomfortable either.
The styling she did held up for many hours till the next morning when I rolled out of bed.
Results: I must come back to update because I think it will look better when it grows out 1 inch or so. Right now, I feel like the layers were overly done a bit or perhaps the length is too short for these layers? I am lazy and very bad with styling hair -- wash, blow dry and go. And I feel that with these current layers, my hair looks messy. It was my request to cut short so we must not blame the stylist.
Overall: I enjoyed the service at Jason Matthew Salon once again.
