Honolulu, HI
O wow - I hadn't been back to the waterpark since high school I think? I was surprised by the actual large size of the Tornado and Shaka rides. They looked so much smaller from the freeway...
Anyhow, it was a fun morning to spend as a threesome and something out of the ordinary. All three of us had been teased independently about going since apparently it's only for "high schoolers" and "little kids" now. Well after going, I kinda have to agree. I have no idea how I used to spend the ENTIRE day here. I definitely remember running around all day when there were even less rides when it first opened. Anyhow us old fogies made it about 3.5 hours, ate home lunch in the trunk of the car in the parking lot and were satisfied.
The old rides are just as fun as I remember and then new ones are pretty fun too. I let out a few screams on the Shaka. They are a lot better about checking minimum height than 7+ years ago, which was nice to see. Actually, the lifeguards were a lot better about safety overall in general. Unfortunately, they also simultaneously all looked and acted like they hated their jobs. They use whistles instead of speaking, which is not very effective for children. "TWEET TWEET TWEET" doesn't mean "don't run" to a 5 year old. Actually, I'm not even sure it was all that effective for this large child. I got whistled at a couple of times and still don't really know what they were trying to scold me for...
All in all, we had a pretty fun time and felt like giant kids again for the morning. I hope that they repair the bathrooms since they were quite gross. I definitely had to use my quads and hover (ladies, you know what I mean). I don't think I'm going to go back unless I have children who are tall enough for the rides. Let's face it, at the rate I'm planning, that'll be like 10 years.
Note: during off season, the rides are operated on a rotational schedule. For example, two rides next to each other like Island Racer and Raging River are staffed every other 1/2 hour. I think it's probably to save on having to pay pay more staff during this time.
Hints: parking cost $5 if you get there in the morning. Around lunch time I guess the dude goes inside since it was free when he's not there. The Kama'aina Saturday special is great (and why we went) - 20 bucks for the last Saturday of the month. They say on the website that it runs thru the end of the year, but I'm sure they'll do something like that again. Small lockers (we fit 3 smashed bags and 3 pairs of slippers) are $12 and large lockers are $17 - you get $5 when you return your key and receipt. -

It took me awhile to finally make it over to Hawaiian Waters, but the park is certainly keeping up with the times and evolving by removing some attractions and bringing new ones in. It is a well laid out park staffed and with good attractions, it is a little pricey and the fact that you have to pay for parking in the middle of nowhere just adds to the pain.
The wave pool is a cool experience to check out and just hang out to avoid the lines at the other attractions. Yet, it shouldn't be the only reason to check out the park, after all why pay the admission fee for just a beach experience you can get for free? The tornado will get your heart racing as you experience a jaw dropping drop, while the raging waters is a few moments of sheer delight. The Waianae coaster is a tubing experience that might instill the competitive spirit among your group.
The food is bleh...but what do you expect at a theme park? They also have group party areas and private cabanas if you want to check it out.
The park is nice but there is nothing that would keep me coming back for more. It is a bit of a drive from the city and can quickly become a pricey amusement experience. Lines can get long but at most rides, they do move fairly quickly.
All in all, a good place to take a group or kids to avoid the heat or just have a different experience in Hawaii! -

Stopped by here today to check out all the pit bulls in the parking lot. They had some sorta pit bull show/trade/sell thing going on. I would rate this and all the special events 4 stars. Very organized, clean, and buzz worthy.
The water park on the other hand, not so much.
I use to own an annual pass for 2 years but since moving to Hawaii Kai and the gauging prices of gas, I didn't use it as often as I wanted to.
I will only go to this water park if it's for a corporate event. I've seen on more than one occasion, children, OLDER CHILDREN, doing the number 2 in the water, near the water, by the lazy river and the wave pool. The parents should've got a back hand or a fore-arm rip to the head. They did nothing about it, laughed, then walked away. I got into a confrontation with one parent about this. Then low and behold, their whole tribe of a family wants to SCRAP because they said it's just an accident. ACCIDENT? umm, NO!! Your kid is like 10 years old, he should be potty trained by now. I actually saw the kid pull his pants down and crap on the concrete entrance to the lazy river. DISGUSTING! They didn't even bother to clean it up or reprimand their child.
Furthermore, the staff didn't close the lazy river as quickly as they should have.
This also happened in the wave pool, shit floating near us, WTF????
I also seen a child fly out of the big tall slide, onto the concrete and scrape their back. The medics came.
FYI, the lifeguards all look extremely young and inexperienced. I'm sure they are certified but ummm??
Okay, I'm not trying to bash this park, I'm just sharing my experiences. Many of my friends children have also gotten sick after swimming here, so I think I'm right on the money.
Anyway, I refuse to swim here anymore. Even though it is a lot of fun, until you find yourself swimming with babe ruth candy bars and mushroom clouds. So...... NOT FUN anymore. -

Why would anyone want to waste a day in Hawaii at a water park? Because you're an idiot like me who can't say no. Even though I did spend one of my 5 days in Hawaii at a waterpark that I don't remember being any different than Raging Waters, the place wasn't that bad. It's better than Water World in Concord because they allow you to go into the wave pool and stay in it. Last couple times I went to Water World they kept kicking us out!
Place was okay, and I met Master Chief here. Yes, a real live Master Chief. Deserving of 3 stars but plus one for Master Chief. -

So reading the reveiw about the kids going in the water makes me think again about brining my kids here. Despite that my kids (4 and under) had fun, but the managment took some serious short cuts on the adolt rides that killed the expirience for me.
Here are some details from my last visit on a Sunday (I don't even want to know what the weekdays are like). The "Shaka" ride had only 7 two man tubes (that you had to carry to the top of the ride), but 4 of them were flat, so there were only 3 available that you had to wait in line for. "Raging Rapids" line took forever becuase there were only 4 tubes available and the return conveyer was so slow and they all came up at the same time. So they would send 10 people down in a period of a min or two, and then everyone would just sit there for probably 6-10 min before the tubes came back up. "Hawaian Waters" or the wave pool was down for maintanance for the next 2 weeks. All the tubees were just sitting there but should have been brought over to the Lazy River ride (don't remember the name of it) where you were fighting with kids who kept jumping the line to get a tube from the people who were coming back around. Two of the other major rides were also closed ( Waineia coster and big kahuna), and the Mini-Golf were also closed.
The rides we did get on were fun, but the negatives definitly killed it for me. -

This place was AWESOME! Hawaiian Waters is home to the longest and the largest variety of water rides I've ever seen in one place. Our whole family had a fantastic fun-filled day here. Whoever built this place really thought it through because they truly offered adventurous fun for everyone. Our three-year-old spent most of his time in the Keiki Cove where he rode his first water slide ever. It was larger than any little kid water slide I'd ever seen. Its size made it easy to ride down with him.
Slides designed for bigger kids were exciting and fun. Among them, the Flyin' Hawaiian --- which shoots you through a series of twists and turns before momentarily making you airborne before you splash down into a pool and the Shaka, a wild ride for two that is based on momentum. The couple riding sits in a raft that shoots down one steep slide and up another, depending on how much momentum you were able to get on the first downward you may go back and forth more than once.
The staff was very friendly. There are loads of lounge chairs and places to sit and sun yourself as well as plenty of food options and even a bar in the park. Be careful --- sun, alcohol and water can be a dangerous combination!

So the wife and I went to this water park during my recent visit to Honolulu. We arrived around 1:30pm and were told that they were closing at 3:30pm... Um okay... "Do we get some sort of discount for half day errrr 2 hours?" Mmmmm hmmm... I swear if I didn't ask we would have been charged the ridiculous $40.00 fee to get in this place... So we go in and head to the ride we like to call the toilet... There was literally no one in this place... 1 star for that! We rode the toilet ride, some tube slides, and the super slide waterslide. Then we went over to the Shaka only to hear that the ride would be closed for the next 30 minutes and to enjoy the slide next to it... ummmm okay? Well then this started happening all over the park... Well lets see when you only have only 2 hours every minute counts... The rides are located what seems like miles apart from each other in a chaotic set up. When we got tickets it said that only one ride was out of operation for the day, however once inside we counted numerous attractions not operating! Instead of manning the rides employees were sitting around gossiping at picnic table... wow cush job! Okay lets go check out the lazy river? Nope lazty river closes at 2:30pm today... And done! We grabbed are stuff and went up to the front to complain. We asked for a manager and were brought Kline... one of the most condesending and unhelpful people I have ever encountered! Kline was combative and rude! Obviously this place is not the Nordstrom of Waterslide parks... what ever happened to customer service? I think it was because we were two Howlee's aka white girls! She why the second star you ask? Because I got a great picture of me flipping this place off...

the kids love it and grown-ups can have fun too. it is always a winner for the children. this place is very windy, so make sure you go there on a sunny day or you will get chilled. the food is terrible and you are not supposed to bring your own.

11/9/08: Straight from my mainland flight, i headed to a nephew's bday party here expecting the worst. when i arrived around 1pm, the parking lot wasn't as packed as i expected. i thought i would have a 10 minute walk from the far end of the lot since i was getting here really late. anyways, the birthday party was over at the bday pavillion, it featured a relatively central location and reserved picnic benches. food was catered and provided by the park, nothing special and greasy as expected. i didn't have to endure the nightmare of seeing various relatives in their speedos, everyone was well relaxed by the time i arrived. anyways after the kids party was winding down, a few of us bigger kids tried out some the other bigger slides - i had fun and will proudly admit it!

I took my grandson who is almost two and he loved it, they have a small part of the park for small children and they had a great deal on a summer pass. It is kind of expensive for just one time, but I think the passes are definitely worth it.
