i love haus! while doing recon in SF, my dear friend E took me to haus several times for some quiet writing/thinking/job applying. it's sparse with just enough plugs for all the folks with laptops. the americano is just right; and the music in the background is just loud enough to be background noise without being a distraction. the simple wooden tables with chairs dotted across a simple space. nothing much to distract you if you need a good cup of coffee and space to work. E would go there for many hours to work. and knowing that's where she hunkered down is kind of a comforting image for me, now that i'm back in nyc.

what i love even more about haus is when E texted me one day to say "i'm leaving haus and on my way home." heart...

DAMMIT! Things are rolling downhill...
The coffee was utterly horrible on Sunday. Burnt, acid....so sad.
And this girl one day, unbelievable.
I ask her a single espresso, she brews a double, then throws in the sink half of it (the top! including the crema!) and gives it to me. Still $2.
Deal breaker.

Plain and Simple.
Roomy and Sterile Environment.
PATIO...I love patio on hot days!

The coffee list is short and simple, therefore even slowpokes won't generate a line.

Need to double check...I think they have 2 wireless signals running...
They are running strong and consistant.
I hate coffee shops with unreliable wi-fi...not this place.

Place is so cleaning it would put a computer chip clean room to shame!

They do need more tables inside and the patio to accomadate the busier periods.

Nice and well lit  slight industrial setting.

Go a simple patio...huge potential if they have volunteer spruce up the patio. Need to water the exisiting plants. Add some simple weatherproof electrical outlets and more table settings.

Place is now one of my favorite. Patio have a huge potential...could make this place sticks out on the grapevine and articles in the future...With carefull thinking and they don't need to put cheap upgrades like...outdoor christmas lights strung across with cheap solar system...get some free help from large pool of creative brain pool in the neigborhoold...donated potted plants...

Whoa...until today I thought this was another Ritual location. One way you can tell its not, are the power strips that are available to customers. Haus is bright, roomy and has a backyard patio as well. Its not crazy busy and definitely a place you can go to if you need to concentrate.

I want to retract my earlier surlier review and let y'all know that not only have I never seen the tardy employee again, but that everyone else who works at Haus is awesome.  They are always friendly, always into chatting about coffee, and all make a mean espresso drink.  I have taken to buying my weekly beans from here- lovin' the La Paz!  Finally a SF roaster that roasts for the bean, not the brand (yes I am referring to the tea that Ritual and Four Barrel try to pass off as coffee).

very clean and simple cafe around mission. one of the less hip cafe around, but i dont mind because i tend to like these type of cafe more.

4 stars--today was my first time so i wouldnt want to be overwhelmed with the place. i had a chai and it was prepacked. i dont mind but it was good. not a lot of choices for the drinks but you live with it. i did! LOL

the great thing about this cafe is the concrete backyard! aahhh.. very relaxing to just do you shizz out there, but i wish there would be outlets. not a bad first time! :) i shall bring my laptop next time, but probably not on the backyard! hmmmm...

Great cafe to work in. Wide-open internet, plugs for laptop juice, eclectic music selection, patio out back, and really good coffee and espresso drinks.

The bathroom is kind of dirty, and almost all of the chairs have wooden seats which get uncomfortable after awhile.

Of course, Philz across the street has the best coffee in the Bay Area (West Coast?, USA?, planet Earth?), but it's pricey, and it's impossible to work there, which makes Haus a lovely addition to 24th Street.

Really, this is two reviews in one: I would give 4 stars if I was judging purely on the coffee shop, but I also got beans there and they were nothing short of disappointing.  The coffee shop itself is great - the atmosphere is pleasant, not too stuffy - a good place to hang out with a book or a friend.  The latte was pretty decent as well - a little short of a 5 star rating, but still beats waiting in line for 15 minutes to get a latte at Ritual.

Now, the beans.  Having enjoyed the overall Haus experience, I decided to get beans from them - I got De La Paz Bolivia Ciapec blend.  These beans are tasteless.  Really, they are NOTHING close to the French press coffee I tried there.  I am using almost twice the amount I ordinarily do, and the coffee still tastes like flavored water.  I am never again getting beans there.

UPDATE: HAUS NOW TAKES CARDS!

Before I begin, know that I don't base my rating on the actual taste of the coffee. It's all sorta the same to me. I, personally, look for amenities when I go to coffee shops. That's because I only go to coffee shops when I'm looking for a place to get work done.

So now that that's understood, I have to say I really really really like Haus. It's clean. Both in the sanitary sense and in the design sense. Upkeep wise, the place is never dusty or dirty, and the bathroom is almost always spotless. As for design, it's very minimalist. Bright, unadorned white walls, and impeccable, slick wood furniture make up the guts of the place. But the very high industrial wood ceiling and fantastic lighting scheme mixed with an all window storefront are what really give it the bright, crisp, and modern feel. Add chill music, super fast reliable wi-fi, nice-enough baristas and a backyard area, and you've got yourself a great coffee shop for all day work/chill sessions. Oh, and did I mention the coffee is strong as hell?

The only drawback? Closes at 9pm.

Prices: 2 bucks for a small, 2.50 for a large coffee.

That's fair as I'm concerned.

Overall, Haus is legit.

Went to this new coffee shop in the Mission, close to 24th St Bart.  Nice, bright, & clean looking.

This is their drink menu:
Coffee $2/$2.5
Espresso $2
Americano $2
Macchiatto $2.5
Cappucino $3
Cafe Latte $3.5
Mocha $4
Ice Coffee $2.5
Tea $2
Chai $2.5
All shots double

They also have some pastries, bananas, & apples.

I wanted a cafe latte w/ coffee art but she told me she didn't know how to make it so I skipped it.  I got a Iced Cafe Latte $3.5 - I thought it was pretty strong so added Sue Bee honey, simple syrup, & some iced water.  mini shot glass sized iced cubes:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...

One unisex bathroom available.  Patio in the back w/ a table & chairs.  One leather sofa and a bunch of chairs & 1 long bench against a wall.

CASH ONLY now, next week the guy said for Credit Cards.

This place gave me a stomach ache the other day. "Why," one might inquire, "would he give a place that caused him stomach distress a full five stars?" Well, because the pain was due to my inability to stop eating their freakishly delicious vegan baked goods. In other words, it's my own damn fault.

It was a Saturday morning and they had an assortment of hip-hop cranking to my delight which was great while waiting in a line that went out the door. The baristas and other staff were definitely not at a loss for ass shaking moves creating quite the Saturday morning ambiance.

I relaxed with tea while being serenaded by the likes of Mike Jones over the speakers, and spent so much time I kept going back for more of the vegan goodness. First the vegan pumpkin bread, then the vegan apple bread and lastly the vegan zucchini bread. I could. not. stop.

So yea, great tea, great atmosphere, helpful staff, and freaking amazing vegan bakery. Just remember, if you eat too much it's your own damn fault too.

This used to be a cool spot to hangout, but I've since changed my mind. What's up with the plated wall covers over the electrical outlets? Unless you arrive with a charged battery, then forget getting any office work done here.

The barrista's, although cute to look at, come with a bit of attitude. As if they are doing YOU a favor by serving you coffee. Did they forget that I just paid $3.50 for a dinky ass cup of latte? Or are they also doing me a favor by letting me use their dirty, unkempt bathrooms. Oh I know, it's because I get to sit at the unoccupied tables scattered with dirty dishes.

Save yourself the trip, definitely don't go for the Internet. If you want to see hip-cool, fashion forward Mission neighborhood kids, great for the eye-candy, gossip front. If you want a decent cup of Jo with a smile, keep walking.

I will never understand why people like this coffee.  There is no...nothing...its just an overpriced cup of french press.  You can make it better at home with different beans.  I had a gift certificate to Ritual and ended giving it away cause it didn't even stand up to my home brewing.  Skip this place.  AND walk across the steet! where they so neighborhood-ly opened up so close to Philz!

Seriously...no more coffee on 24th!

They're still decorating at this point, but I hope the finial plan has some more personality.  Right now, the space is light and airy yet comfortable, but blank.  Some say blank is a look, I think its just unfinished!  Some big graphic foil letters in the square windows would make a nice sign, as would some plants and art up there and some color on any part of the wall.

I was surprised they didn't install multiple outlets along the custom bench, would have made sense for a computer crazy hipster San Francisco customer base. . .

Coffee is acceptable and reasonably priced.  Looking forward to the backyard when it is completed.

I like the music selection too.

Nice little spot. Pleasant, comfortable interior; nice courtyard out back. Over all a good find. (A note to my fellow laptop nomads: Free internet--and sockets.)

The coffee's fine here, but not great. They use Ritual beans, but the difference in the quality between Ritual's coffee and Haus's does, I'm afraid, go to show how much lies with the barista...

Walked in here mid-morning on a Sunday.  We ordered a soy cap and a latte.  The coffee was ok.  Not the best cap I've had, but it was ok.  They didn't have many pastries to choose from either.

The venue is bright and spacious.  Looks like they're still working on a few things.

I'll come back after they get their bearings but I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Haus has been operating in name-less secret for a short period now, but I finally found out its actual name through a website after I went to it a week or so ago.  Inside, there's a fireplace with a black leather sofa to sit on during those chilly SF nights.  I also hear they are opening the patio in the back soon.

Noe Valley Bakery brings in fresh baked items every day, and the coffee is pretty solid.  I have been told that Ritual and De La Paz are supplying the coffee and espresso.  Also, WiFi is available.

For now, I give it a 3 since it's not completely done.  I'll update once I go back to see it in its fully-completed state.

H ang out in this Mission coffee shop.
A dding a patio sometime in the near future.
U rban decor with an all-wood look inside.
S uitable for a relaxing afternoon or a casual date.

Opening a coffee shop across the street from Philz takes balls, given it's status as a local favorite that can do no wrong.  But really, the two are a bit like apples and oranges, and Haus has stepped in to fill a void on 24th street that Philz cannot satisfy.  That void is the espresso drink void.
Haus serves a full list of coffee drinks - espresso, cappuccino, latte, macchiato - as well as french press coffee made fresh every 20 minutes.  That french press is really what's up, it's so dense and flavorful you'll never want drip again.  The espresso is made by Ritual and the coffee beans are from De La Paz, both local companies.  The baristas here really care about the quality of the drink and really want the customer to be satisfied with every detail - be it the foam on your cappuccino or the volume level of the music.
They do charge extra for soy (50cents), and are experimenting with other non-dairy options such as almond milk.  The pastries are also made by young, new, mission district bakeries and the choices are more interesting than your typical banana bread and a bagel.  There's sea salt & lavender cookies, cheese scones, vegan apricot scones, vegan cookies and vegan breakfast bars.
The space is uuuuber modern and raw, which you should have guessed given the name "Haus."  I think a few more decorative objects might help - simply because the surfaces do little to absorb noise, making it very tinny and echo-y in there.  Perhaps some velvet paintings from TJ guys?? j/k.  There's also a large back patio with some tables, making it perfect on sunny days or for those of you who love a cigarette with your coffee.  Just try not to take a gnarly deuce in the bathroom if you choose to go that route.

Excellent coffee, not crowded, not overwhelmed by lousy music or pretentious art. And notably, instead of a stuck-up hipster barrista there is a very nice, helpful fellow named Ryan who handles both macchiatos and local aggressive drunks gracefully, doing just what's needed. I love the decor and the light and the back garden. A choice has been made to have not too many tables -- so when you walk in, you don't feel you've stumbled into someone else's library. Instead, there's room for you. Perfect wifi and electricity too.

I agree with Adam Z. This is a great, mellow place to sit down and work. Free WiFi, plenty of laptop plug in areas, and space to spread out. For the car-bound folks, there is unmetered, unrestricted parking over by Humphrey Slocombe on Harrison... so if you are heading over from another part of town, you don't have to worry about feeding a meter or getting a 2 hour parking violation ticket from DPT! :)

I can confirm it is wheelchair accessible- yesterday while I was there, some random guy came in in a wheelchair and tried to jack my keys, which was pretty crazy and unexpected...

For the most part this place is tranquil and helps me focus on getting my work done! It ain't servin up the Philz level brew you can nab across the street, but Ritual roaster coffee ain't chopliver!

I occasionally splurge on the Banana Pecan bread or the Almond Croissant...but at 2.50 a pop, it is almost as much is the cup of coffee I get!
Definitely recommended!

As others have pointed out, the space is bright and inviting. Love the music - it's generally interesting without being too jarring. They seem to really care about the quality of their coffee and they brew an excellent french press. I prefer their coffee to Ritual's - not sure what they do differently, but it works. Overall a top notch place for a quiet conversation or a productive work day.

good espresso (ritual)
good wifi
good outlet situation
good patio
good sturdy chairs. well, they are good for work, not if you want to sit comfortably and chat.
in terms of atmosphere - at the front it has a warehouse feel, at the middle, it has a hair salon feel (seriously, massage music and all. well, actually, that's throughout the place. i'll definitely rethink the music) and all the way inside, at the patio, it has a mission st. feel.
wish the barista was nicer though - that would probably have made me more enthusiastic about this place.

I like this place but not a huge fan of the location.  It's a nice and simple place - there's a patio in the back and the inside has a cute little couch and armchair setup amongst other surprisingly comfy tables.  Got the mocha - which I thought was pretty standard.  I'm mostly pleased with the environment; I could kill hours here.  But there's not much else around here and it's kind of a trek for me to venture out to this part of the mission.  If it were a bit more convenient, I'd definitely make it a regular chill spot.

Spare decor, but bright walls with warm wood. Excellent patio.

If "life in the Outer Mission" was a category on Yelp, it would get an extra star with the addition of Haus.  The humble newcomer to artisan coffee in the Mission, Haus has only been open a month or so as of this writing.  There's a lot to discuss here, but let's start with the coffee.  Haus procures beans from two choice roasters, both within a few blocks of the cafe: De La Paz and Ritual Roasters.  For now, De La Paz is the bean of choice for their house coffee which is always french press and without a doubt the best french press I've had to date.  I can't even make it this good at home and I'm not sure what their secret is.  Espresso and espresso drinks are currently pulled with Ritual beans, and as you would expect, it's mighty fine.  I've only had espresso made by Ryan, one of the managers who is there in the mornings and have yet to try out the training of the rest of the staff.  Ryan certainly knows his stuff and is super friendly to boot.  Kudos to the management for offering customers a choice of local roasters.  I'd love to see what Jason and Co. over at De La Paz can put together for a Haus espresso blend.
Unless I'm mistaken, this will be the first cafe in the mission with outdoor seating in the back.  There's a large patio nestled between some houses and ivy-covered walls that's not yet ready for customers, but looks to be soon.  I'm impressed that they seem to be building much of their own seating by hand.
For now the atmosphere has not fully developed, but this translates to short lines and plenty of available seating at their big and small tables, and their fireside sofa.  Let's get some local art in here and we'll be set!
