Review from Kate I.
BOSTON CLG, MA
This ain't your high school history class. Say what you want about boring history lectures, but it was actually the historical basis for the tour that made it so creepy!
Our tour guide was snarky and fun, very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what she did. She gave great tips on ghost hunting, and even examined the pictures we took after the fact to look for signs of paranormal presence.
The LaLaurie mansion was seared into my brain. Hearing the terrifying details of what happened thee (don't worry, no spoiler alert here!) while looking directly at the darkened mansion was enough to make me squirm (and thinking about it still does...)
Fortunately, I had recovered my wits in time for a voodoo juice at a haunted bar. A real pirate's hang out, the place was crawling with booty-squeezing pirate ghosts (or that's what they want you to think). We then moved around the French quarter, and even in the lull time between stops, it was a nice scenic tour of the city.
No, I didn't see any spooks. I didn't even get felt up by a dead Captain Jack Sparrow. But I learned a lot about New Orlean's culture and history, and I definitely got the creeps at points. At the end, my roommate and I agreed that this was an absolute highlight that all the booze on Bourbon Street could not make us forget. -

My friend and I enjoyed this tour a lot, but don't be deceived, it's all about history and entertainment, not going ghost hunting.
What we enjoyed: walking the French Quarter and seeing so many cool looking buildings, most of all hearing about the Lalaurie Mansion.
What we didn't enjoy: the tour guide. She was insufferable, like she wanted to be an actress and it didn't work out so she makes her every day life into a performance. -

I'm sorry to be harsh, but it was pretty terrible.
We paid and lined up below an awning, waited, and were seperated into a large group. One group went with a male tour guide, one with a female. My companion and I got the female. Her name was Jennifer.
Things started out wonderfully, the guide was engaging and witty, but I soon realized this was literally standing outside of the building on the opposite side of the street while we are fed some unverified ghost stories. There were remarks of how they even got activity on these tours, and that is BS, how do you get activity when you stand across the street from something?
The worst part was, our guide, being self proclaim-edly drunk, would stand in the middle of the street, so every time a car came by (which was often) she'd stop talking. I am not ADD, in fact, I have the concentration of steel, and yet I was still drifting off in another direction and couldn't follow the stories she was telling.
Literally 2 hours of time wasted, looking at buildings I could have looked at on my own. I really thought this was going to be something where you go INTO old hotels, and stand in the lobby for the story at least to get a FEEL. But no..
So I urge you to find another tour to do or print out a self guided tour which will be more entertaining.
I will verify that all of the locations besides the bar we went to were haunted, but it's not like we could see anything, we were standing across the street... Most of it felt like BS, too. -

This tour guide company offers several different tours. The only one that is scheduled early in the day is the cemetery tour, so we picked that. Our tour guide (Ernie) was very passionate about history & New Orleans. He
was clever, witty & sharp. I would not recommend this tour if you do not like history, walking, or being around a large group of people. If you do go on this tour make sure Ernie is your guide for a guaranteed good tour. -

Loved our punk rock ghost guide Randy, an earnest historian and great storyteller so he gets a five! Setting out process could have been better-bit of a cattle call. Do it - great way to learn some history and enjoy the city.

The most important thing to know about this tour is that it is a historical tour, not a spook tour. If that is what you're looking for, then this is a good choice.
Our tour guide did a nice job balancing information and wit. The history was all very interesting, as well as the elaboration on the lore surrounding the various ghosts and vampires of New Orleans.
My only complaint is that it might be nice if the tour group were able to work with some of the more famous haunted locations, such as Muriels or the community theatre, so that the groups could go inside and see the buildings. As it is, you stand outside and are told about what goes on inside. And that's fine, but it's probably nothing you couldn't do on your own with a local guidebook or some internet research.
But if you have no sense of direction like myself and want someone to do the research work for you so you can relax and enjoy the sights (at least from the outside) and stories, then this is a solid choice.Listed in: Two Days in New Orleans

Word of advice..... If you are planning on drinking for 6 hours straight...do not book a ghost tour in the early evening. The tour will be way to slow, boring, and not enough to keep you interested for 5 minutes.

I'm a total history nerd so naturally, I go to New Orleans and go on these tours. I went on two: the ghost tour and the graveyard tour.
These tours are a hit-or-miss and it's entirely dependent on your tour guide. All tours are packed with historical information, but our ghost tour tour guide (George? Greg? Michael?....hm...) spoke so quickly that it was hard to be completely engaged in what he was saying and to also envision the spookiness of it all.
Our graveyard tour guide was much better (aka she talked at a normal pace), though there were some joke repeats.
If I were to recommend a tour, I'd say - skip this one and go for the graveyard one instead. -

Do NOT waste your money. One of the worst tours I have taken. The guy with the mohawk was the tour guide and he was all about his performance, not to mention telling false stories. We stood in front of a building for 20-25 minutes before he got to the actual story (later I found out to be a fake tale). We ended up just walking away... what a waste.
Don't get me wrong, I was not expecting ghosts to jump out, but I am a history buff, and did my research. I appreciate TRUE stories. -

I want my time and money back...
SCARY ENCOUNTERS: a few obnoxious bums, a few drunks, and some drag queens.
OUR TOUR GUIDE: certainly looked like someone who was dedicated to the role of scaring tourists...but my excitement was quickly lost when i learned that the tour was nothing more than walking the streets of the French quarters, while the tour guide tells un-verified, un-documented ghost stories in her most practiced story telling voice...
HOW IT WORKS: 1) You go to the meeting location and pay 2) You line up and wait for the next available tour guide. 3) They bundle you up in groups of 10-15 people then send you off with your tour guide. 4) you walk several blocks with your tour guide, stopping at several buildings while she tells of the building's "haunting past".
ATMOSPHERE: the stories lose their effect when tourists and other street activities constantly interrupt the story telling...
POTENTIAL: it IS possible for this tour to be good...but such would require a tour guide with a better mastery in the art of storytelling...at least mastered enough to hold your attention from the normal hustle and bustle of New Orleans's streets; unfortunately, your assigned tour guide is not self-selected. -
Review from Annie S.
This was not haunted in the slightest, and in fact, most of the stories weren't even ghostly or scary, but it was somewhat fun and I learned a lot more than I would have otherwise.
The initial organization of the tours is a bit flustered, but it seems to work for them. They break you up into opposing lines and then into groups. We actually got a great tour guide (Randy) because he knew his stuff, though he was quite a bit of a character and got a little too serious at times. I wouldn't recommend some of the stories for kids, either. He got a bit graphic on a few.
Some of the stories were a major snooze, but a couple were really interesting and I'm glad I went for that. Our tour ended up being over 2 hours. It involves much more standing than walking, so make sure your shoes are comfortable for standing! -

I signed up for this Ghost Tour along with a group of coworkers as we were in New Orleans to attend a conference. The others were a little more excited than I was, but I figured at the very least, I'd get to see a couple of cool places and maybe a haunted hotel or something for my $22.00.
Upon the start of the tour, I was disappointed to hear that we wouldn't be on a bus, but that we would be walking for 2 hours in the afternoon heat with a group of about 20 and a tour guide, who could barely be heard over the noise of the city and the members of the tour group. Luckily I had worn comfortable walking shoes despite the fact that I thought we'd be sitting on a bus!
As we walked from our initial starting point at the Jackson Brewery, we spent the next 2 hours walking around the French Quarter and stopping every couple of blocks in front of a building while the tour guide told us some half-baked ghost story and supposed haunted events that would occur at each of the locations. Any discernible adult would be able to tell that most of these "scary stories" were just that - stories, and it was up to each individual to take the experience for what it was worth. I guess I just wasn't feeling up to it that day. A combination of the intense summer heat, plus the 2 hours of walking, and the inability to hear most of what the tour guide was saying resulted in a pretty bad experience for me. In fact, a family of 5 had asked early on if we would be entering any of these supposedly haunted buildings, and they left the tour halfway through after realizing that we'd have to walk around and listen to ghost stories instead. I would've done the same if my friends had wanted to leave as well...
Halfway through, you stop at a bar where you can cool off with a drink and use the restroom. That was a nice relief, and probably good for the bar owner as well as our group purchased several drinks during our quick stay.
I'd say you're better off exploring the French Quarter on your own and doing some reading on hauntings and ghosts in the city if you are interested enough to do your own research. During the tour, I read on Wikipedia about one of the stops, the Laurie Mansion, and read a little bit about what actually happened there. Read on your own and save yourself the $22.00!
So overall...
The good: Can be entertaining if you allow yourself to experience it for what it was worth. Learn a few tidbits on the lesser-known history of the city.
The bad: The 2 hours of walking. The high cost. Not being able to enter any of the buildings. Too-quiet tour guide. Unsubstantiated "ghost" stories.
The ugly: Most of it was just not great. Skip it! -

Ok, first off this tour was totally amazing. It was informative and historical, so for a history nerd I was in love with the storytelling. Mind you, I am the biggest pansy when it comes to ghosts and the other-wordly...I mean I am the one who covers his eyes during a semi-scary movie at home during the afternoon. But this tour was awesome.
It was awesome because of our tour guide Shelby!! Shelby if you read this, this is that group of 13 dudes from the Bachelor Party. Hopefully you remember us and if you dont, I put a picture of us with you. Anyway, thanks for making this tour one of the best events of our trip. You rock...now tell us where the Haunted Liquor Store is at. -

Cheesy...but isn't that what we were expecting? C'mon reviewers...you cannot expect tour guides to be able to conger up actual ghosts for you. This is a fun, silly, nighttime walking tour of the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Everyone meets at a central location in the FQ and you break up into tours (there are several to chose from) and the tour commences. Everyone was really nice. When I got to the location to start the tour I realized that I had forgotten my tickets. The staff told me that they would attempt to confirm that I had paid right then, but if they couldn't we'd need to pay again and they would reimburse us the next day when they could do a more thorough examination of their records. I thought this was totally reasonable since I was the one who forgot her tickets. Luckily they were able to confirm everything on the stop and we were all set.
The tour guides were knowledgable...I had a good time. This is about what I expected :) -
Review from Patty S.
We took the Ghost tour one evening and we had fun. Our tour guide was very animated and spoke in ghost-like conversation. The most enjoyable part of the evening was strolling through the French Quarter at night and hearing about some of the real history (and some scary stories) of some of the buildings and what they were used for so many years ago.
One stop was humorous, as our tour guide showed us where Candyman 3 was filmed and asked one of us to say Candyman three times in the mirror that was hanging. One brave soul did and then we walked onto the next stop.
This is more of an entertainment stroll than a scary one. Alas, it was fun. -
Review from Jackie A.
We took this tour on a Sunday night so it wasn't too crowded. I have to admit, I was expecting something a lot scarier. Our tour guide was a good story teller but not great at making it scary and made it known that he doesn't really believe in this stuff himself. The whole tour was on the streets of the French Quarter but for $20 a person I really expected to be taken into at least 1 haunted building.
I've taken a ton of walking tours in plenty of other cities and usually they are either less expensive for this quality or the guides work on tips alone, or they are far more comprehensive. -

Now that I've stopped my head from spinning, onward to part two of my bon voyage tour. We decided we wanted to act like tourists for a change (that and no haunted houses were open that night). The guide, Renee, was spot on and gave a great tour. Even with locals screaming (from balconies and cars) and drunks prying, he just kept on with his info.
While going to one site, he told us about the worst interruption he's gotten with guy buck naked on his balcony. Takes a lot of patience to not ridicule him or do otherwise. The group we were with was meh until we got to Lafitte's bar, then they warmed up. All in all, it was great and I'm contemplating the vampire tour for shits and giggles as well. -

Go on this tour. In fact, Haunted History offers up a variety of tours in the city - though not all of them haunted. I can recommend some of those, too.
I went on this tour with Carla, who is a brilliant storyteller, and well-versed in the many macabre tales of the French Quarter. I love that she really focuses on the documented history as much as possible, painting a vivid picture of the tales and the times in which they happened. Understanding the context of the stories really adds to the the horror - and I also unwittingly learned a great deal about the city.
She did her homework, whenever possible she pulled from interviews she did herself for the portions of the stories that describe the hauntings - having spoken with locals, hotel guests, concierge workers, neighbors of the Lalaurie Mansion.
This is not Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt. There will be no one jumping out at you in a scary mask, covered in fake blood. What this tour does have is rich history, and some stories that give me the creeps even now, safely more than 1,000 miles away back home in Los Angeles.
This tour also has what comes off as a real love for New Orleans, and respect for the rich history there.
Again - if at all possible, go on the tour with Carla. She really knows her stuff and can spin a fantastic story. Then, if you haven't already, go on her Garden District tour. I went on the regular one, and it was fascinating.
She also, over her decate plus experience as a New Orleans tour guide, collected enough ghost stories from the Garden District to start a Garden District ghost tour, also run by Haunted History. She carefully collected and curated these tales and designed a tour centered around them that is given at 2:30 p.m. most days. (Garden District doesn't allow night time tours.)
I missed out on it this time, but it's high on my list for my next visit. -

Our ghost tour guide was a complete snooze. I wanted to hear about murder, pestilence and the sexy criminal side of New Orleans. He wanted to talk about knowing someone with a friend who saw "orbs". Occasionally he would throw in a "know that movie____? They filmed it there." I couldn't have been less impressed. Our group was huge and our guide was hard to hear. The drunk sorority girls really made the tour--not that I blame HH for that...
Our group stopped at Turtle Bay for a drink and when we heard how much better one of the other guides was, we seriously considered jumping ship to the other group. This tour is a real crapshoot--you might get one of the few awesome guides but there's no guarantee.
The next day we took the Voodoo Museum tour, which cost about the same amount, was 3 hours long and AMAZING! Definitely shop around. I almost gave the HH tour 2 stars because 1 feels cruel, but it is what it is. -

So, I do a ghost tour pretty much every time I go to New Orleans, and must admit, I was kind of underwhelmed with this one. I don't know if it was my tour guide or the number of people (it was pretty crowded), but I felt like this tour didn't give many ghost stories, and it gave abbreviated versions of some of the ones I've heard before.
I mean, if I hadn't done another ghost tour, I might have thought this tour was just fine, but like I said, having heard N'awlins ghost stories told by several different companies and guides, I just wasn't really in love with this one. I felt like my guide wasn't really a good story teller, and many of her ghost stories were sprinkled with jokes. Yes, this makes it fun, but I'm on a ghost tour for a little bit of scary fun, not a comedy show. And, sometimes the jokes detracted from the tale at hand.
Some of the other tours I've been on also gave more of a comprehensive overview of New Orleans history. This one gave a little, but again, I just wasn't impressed. In the future, I'll probably go with another company.Listed in: NOLA Fun

Can I vote zero? This was horrible! Just horrible! The guide got drunk, lied about a photo he didn't take and didn't even know the actually facts pertaining to the tour! To top it off when a guest decided to take a photo of "his" photo he called her a confederate. There was about 20 people that started the tour and about 10 at the end! Oh but for a fee you could complete the tour and get drunk with the guide. A complete waste of money. Oh and when I called to complain 5 days later (considering I live on a different coast) I was chastised as to why I took so long?! Seriously why should that even be a concern? The funny part is I could care less about my "$24" refund, but more about the clear un-professionalism of this guide. Obviously that is not a concern. If you want to do it, good luck hope you end up with a great guide. My advice, save your money and don't do this tour!

My boyfriend had taken this tour before, but we decided to take it again and see the spooky sights of New Orleans.
The tour was packed and we all waited outside while they divided us into groups. The tour guide we got was nice enough, but she wasn't really scary. I felt more like it was a walking history lesson instead of a ghost tour. I want to hear scary stuff, dammitt! She was also a bit insistent that everyone be completely silent while we walked around and she was talking. I get that you don't want to have to talk over people the whole time, but when I whispered something to my boyfriend once, she gave me the evil eye like she was going to give me detention or something.
You shouldn't make your customers feel like naughty kids.
It was an ok experience, but my boyfriend and I bailed at one of the last few stops and headed t a nearby bar to drink. It was far more entertaining than listen to her rattle on.Listed in: New Orleans Style!

As a tourist and someone who is interested in ghost and vampires, I loved this walking tour. I had been on the same tour about 9 years ago and thought it was great. On my latest visit I brought my boyfriend and he loved it as well, but he enjoyed the history aspect of it.
For $20 you get to walk through the French Quarter and hear some interesting stories about paranormal activities and some history on the oldest buildings in the city as well as brief city history. Adam was a great tour guide. Large groups are divided so I don't think you can request a guide but I'd ask anyways. Go at night! -

So, I want to give four stars for the cemetery history tour. The information and tour guide were great.
But the Haunted night tour was horrible! Our guide had no information and there was nothing haunted about it at all. We basically walked uprightness three different houses and she told a story with no pertinent information. Just horrible. -
Review from Garmen C.

I think it boils down to who you get as a tour guide -- and unfortunately you won't know until you get divided up. It's a total crap shoot.
Our tour guide was overly dramatic and easily irritable.
She would abruptly stop if someone else was talking, whispering or moving. Felt like we were in school. You'd think that if she wanted our undivided attention, she'd be this great storyteller, but she wasn't. She wasn't convincing in her storytelling and she herself had no personal paranormal experiences to add to the mix. (Not that she needed to have one to make her legit or anything...but it would have made her slightly more interesting).
One weird thing is that there was a "break" for all of us to get drinks at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. Lafitte's happens to be the oldest bar in the U.S., and while I appreciate the history of the place and all, we weren't expecting a 15-20 minute stop as part of the tour.
Needless to say we weren't overly impressed. It was more history than scary. The best thing about the tour is the introduction to Lafitte's and the two for one drink deal at the bar next door to the meeting place for the tour.Listed in: New Orleans Newbies

The Ghost tour is a close to two hour walking tour of the french quarter, that departs at 6 and 8pm every night. The guide narrates the story of New Orleans, including mysterious murders, paranormal activity, haunted sites, and ghostly phenomena of which the audience hears their tragic demises.
Visit the mansion where slaves were buried alive beneath the floorboards, the church infront of which two nuns were drained of all their blood, the house with romeo spikes where a young lover met his end, see the alley of the annual ghostly procession, where a scene from Anne Rice's "Interview with a Vampire" was filmed... -

Took this tour when my dad came into town for a visit, just to kill time.
It's not particularly scary, but the tour guide came off as pretty knowledgeable about the ghost stories, and I would say it's probably worth going on if you've got nothing better going on during the daytime.
Apart from the quick cemetery tour, and the occasional ghost story, it was a nice tour of the more affluent parts of the Garden District. Got to see a few of the celebrities' houses pointed out, and learned a bit more about the history of the area (i've only been a local for about 4 years).
$20/person, probably a bit steep for the quality of the tour, but we did get a full 2 hours of pleasant walking and stories out of it. -

Much more historical not so much scary. But you can learn a lot of interesting stuff if you've never been here and have an awesome guide. I guess I got lucky as my guide had tons of stories and took us to the haunted whorehouse. Sadly we weren't able to go into any of the haunted sites but at least there was a bar break.

This was a dowright blast. We loved every minute of it. I wish we could have had a whole tour just on the history on NOLA; it's just so diverse, spooky and rich. Next time, I'm going to read up on the history of NOLA so I can learn even more about this amazing place.
Our guide was great, and the stories he told us were really awesome. The bf and I still talk about the crazy lady who tortured and killed all of her slaves, buried some alive, and was exposed during a huge party approx 150 yrs ago. Nicholas Cage apparently bought the house, it's on Royal St., and it was such a cool story. Every time we walked past it after the ghost tour we got chills.
Do this tour if you have interest in history and ghosts. Totally awesome.Listed in: New Orleans Trip 2009

I was a little skeptical when I saw the title Haunted History tour, but this tour definitely exceeded my expectations.
The two hour walking tour throughout the quarter was very educational because we learn about the influence for the style of the buildings, the great fires, and about the culture of New Orleans. What made this tour even more enjoyable was that it was presented in a story tale format.
The tour guide, Eugenia was excellent, and I think her exceptional story telling skills, dramatization, and great facial expressions really sold the tour.
The tour is $20 per person, but make sure to get a coupon for $3 off. I would recommended doing this tour on your first night so that you are better able to familiarize yourself with the area. -

We loved this tour. We had a great tour guide and lucked out on a great group of people. I agree with most reviewers the meet up point is incredibly confusing but if you plan on taking the tour don't sweat it and just follow the person in front of you.

We signed up for the ghost tour at the last minute. There was a pretty large crowd gathered at the meet up place, but a man with a husky voice and silver hair quickly reassured me that there would be two groups. I immediately decided that we should be in his tour group. Definitely made the right decision. The tour was interesting and our guide clearly had done his own research. A great way to see a little more of the quarter and feel like you've learned something at the same time.

so we decided to do a ghost tour wh ile we were in town. It's a great way to learn about the history of a city, and maybe see some spooky stuff. This tour was no exception. Our guide was Lenny and he was a great tour guide. We walked past a few of the other groups and I'm glad we got Lenny. He was very informational and conversational. the other guides seemed to have somewhat of an act, which would have annoyed the poo out of me. Overall, a cool tour and way to see some of the city and hear somje of the great stories.

Renee and his demon dog were our tour guides. Fun, not scary as anticipated, but full of history and interesting information about NOLA. Some were quite gruesome or downright raunchy (like the story about the prostitute ring...so that's where the term "ragtime" came from...).
Overall good times and worth the money! Plus, you get to drink the whole time and stop at a bar halfway through. The tour is about 2 hours long, so use the restroom at the bar!
Look in the local tourist magazine for a $4 off coupon. -

The 5 stars are for the Garden district tour, and for the tour guide Katherine Young. She was amazing, there's nothing like getting history from a live source, especially one as knowledgeable, and entertaining as Mrs. Young.
You've seen the Garden district in movies all your life, but nothing compares to walking it's sidewalks with a local, imparting her knowledge. We even got a mini tour of Lafayette #1 cemetery thrown in.
I can't give as glowing a review for the Haunted French Quarter tour (21/2 stars very average). Our guide was knowledgeable, but was also a professional hypnotist and did a lot of self promotion along the way. What we saw on the tour was very interesting I will say that, but self promotion (bragging) always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. -

My wife and I did the Cemetery tour. It's more a history tour, not a haunted tour. Ernie was our guide, and he was great! You can tell he loves his city, and has done a lot of personal research. He's not just repeating a script. Really enjoyed it!
