i came here on a thursday - $1 nigri night. gooood deal. i should warn you though that the $1 special does not include every fish... only about 10 kinds are in the special. i got the maguro (tuna), hamachi (yellowtail) and hotate (scallop). (i think salmon, smoked salmon, mackerel and eel were also on the $1 menu.)
the quality of the fish was OK, but i probably wouldn't seek it out again.
i am deducting a star because the waitress basically forced miso soup upon us and charged us for it too. i guess when i say "no thanks" it sounded like "yes"?
This place was just okay. The interior is nice and the food is decent. I cannot say that it was over the top. We got two different types of Sushi recommended and both were just okay.
The server was very nice but kind of scatter brained and way to attentive to our foreign friends at the table next to us and not us.
Also it was freaking cold as hell in there. I froze and was shivering the whole time.
Read in SNR about their nightly specials - we went for Monday $1 handrolls and were way impressed!
The $1 handrolls are mini but you could EASILY be full off $5 worth. Me and the bf had two each but I wanted more! A perfect night to be at Hashi for all fish-rice-seaweed sushi purists.
Since we were trying this place on for size for the first time, we ordered some rolls. Spicy Vargas was A. MAZING. So different than any roll I have had. Indescribably delicious. We also had the Buddah which was very good but its been done.
Then the chef threw us 2 of their Fire Oysters on the house. Wow wow wow wow.
Needless to say we will be back, perhaps on $1 nigiri night!?
I really loved the creativity in the menu here. Definitely a different kind of sushi joint - in a good way.
I am a huge sushi fan and when I moved to Sacramento I knew that I had to find a go to sushi restaurant. Hashi was the third Sushi restaurant that I tried and I probably won't be going to any other place for sushi. I was a little apprehensive because it looked a little clubby from the outside but the price was right and they had a great menu so my boyfriend and I decided to try it.
The service was really great and since we were there on a Monday night they had $1 hand rolls and $2 drafts from the bar because of the sports that they have playing on the TVs. When we saw that Tuesdays were $1 Nigiri we knew that we had to come back.
When we paid our check the server gave us a free small entree coupon which is good for any of their appetizers of which the have a pretty big selection.
When we went back the next night we decided to try a bento box and I admit I was less pleased with it. I didn't think that it was bad in anyway just not nearly as good as the sushi. When paying our check that night they gave us another coupon for a free appetizer so I look forward to going back.
I drove for over 2 hours to eat here for my friend's birthday.. so this place had better be good and well worth it!
This place is located on a corner in downtown Sacramento and parking is street only.. the inside reminded me a bit of Mikunis because of the bar area as you first step in and there was also an upstairs area where our party of 30 girls was seated.
The prices here are pretty cheap.. especially for a Japanese Fusion place.. small plates/appetizers could range from $8+ and the rolls started from $9.. and not to mention their cocktails were only $6 (although my pomegranate mojito sure could've been a bit stiffer). The food was good.. Between four girls we shared 4 rolls and the oyster appetizer which was different because it had a pesto sauce on it, but it was still yummy in my tummy!!
Downside to this place is that the service was superrrrr slow... I know we had a party of maybe 30 girls.. but the food took FOREVER to come out and it didn't all come out at once either.. the waiter seemed too laidback in my opinion.. leaning his elbow against his table to take our order.. and so forth..
I would definitely come back if I am ever in the area again
Another new sushi place in DT Sac so I decided to give it a try.
Couldn't hurt right? Good reviews, close to work, and I've been craving sushi for weeks.
Walked in to an empty restaurant. I usually don't mind because that means I'll get all the service and attention I need.
Waitress came by to explain the menu as if this Sushi "Fusion" place was different from any other place, that took 10 minutes of my life. Normally I don't mind hearing about the food and such, but I was starving after a 10 hour work day.
Boyfriend and I opted for:
Spicy Vargas Roll- which was probably the best thing I've tasted since the SSC roll from Zen Toro's in Davis. To quote my boyfriend it was like...."summer in my mouth". The Spicy Vargas had a little bit of everything I loved- spicy, crunchy, and zesty. It had shrimp tempura with snow crab, seared salmon, avocado, some jalapeno, onions, chili oil and topped off with a thin slice of lemon on each piece. YUM. I think the lemon was a perfect touch, esp during the HOT Sacramento summers. If I come back, this will probably be the only thing I will order from here.
Next up was the Buddah Roll. Good, but nothing out the ordinary. Your regular soft shell crab with tuna avocado, seared tuna, etc. I enjoyed it, but like I said, nothing out of the ordinary.
We also shared a Bento Box- Tonkatsu & Spicy chicken. The Tonkatsu was good, crunchy and cooked well. Spicy chicken was something I did not car for.
Service was okay. Not very friendly, actually the entire staff was neither friendly or very welcoming. At least we didn't get ignored. :P
I shall be back for the Spicy Vargas. I can taste the "summer in my mouth" just thinking about it.
Great Happy Hour Menu. Mondays $2 Coors Light Drafts, and $3 all other drafts (Blue Moon, Firewood DBA, Kirin, Sapporo).
Good Selection of Happy Hour appetizers: edamame $2, gyoza, lamb lollipops, sushi rolls etc.
My friend and I started off with $3 dollar sake bombs, edamame, followed by a few different pints, we had an interesting roll, i want to call it the the artisan roll..it was good and very filling, we also had the bbq albacore salad ($5) which was very good.
After another round of sake bombs, we were off. The bartender was friendly and hot. I'll be back.
We stopped by Hashi's after strolling 2nd Saturday, so we were quite hungry! My friend informed me that this place was fairly new, so I was excited to try it. Four of us were seated at the sushi bar since the place was quite busy (which is definitely good sign) and were well taken care of by the two friendly sushi chefs.
I'm usually not a big fan of oysters, but I did try it here. Served warm with a hint of lime juice, it actually tasted refreshing. I also liked the thinly sliced Kobi beef and the seafood salad was amazing!
My friend is having her birthday dinner here sometime in mid-June, so I'll definitely update this review soon!
Ive been contemplating on writing this because its such a great deal. On Tues.(after 5pm) they have $1.00 Nigiri sushi. This is a awesome deal and my wife and i have been coming here almost every tuesday since they opened. The service is great and every now and than we get comp'd edamame or miso soup for being a good customer. For the price i think this is great place with a good atmosphere.
This place replaced the Stonegrill and had its grand opening a short while ago. The restaurant card for this establishment called the place a fusion sushi & bar.
I attended a UVA Club of Sacramento event at this establishment. We had some various sushi and an assortment of drinks. Both food and drink seemed adequate. We had oysters in the half shell, which was nice.
I definitely need to patronize this place more to give a more definitive judgment on the place but overall it seemed nice.
A friend and I had lunch there today. I ordered the Lunch Sashimi, and she ordered the Hashi Deluxe. The sashimi and sushi pieces were extremely generous, and the fish was fresh and tasty. We had dined there before when it was Stonegrill, and we both agreed that the change was wonderful as well as reasonably priced. My lunch came with miso soup and only cost $8! What a killer deal! 'Nice service, too. Yelpers, do patronize this great reincarnation - I will definitely return!
By the way, the photo on this link is incorrect. Ju Hachi is a different restaurant!
Really good sushi, fair amount of veggie options. Large assortment of liquor and beer. Prices pretty good, staff is really friendly, hours and location is good.
We came here after a long day of moving (from Palo Alto). Hostess/server was very pleasant, and service was attentive. Our water glasses were never neglected, but it was pretty early, so there weren't many people in the restaurant yet.
Appetizers:
Citrus hamachi - great and tasted fresh, citrus was a nice touch
Seafood salad - fresh but with a tad too much dressing (which had a great wasabi kick to it)
Seared filet mignon with mushrooms - it was okay, a bit overcooked (well done) and salty sauce
Tuna tartare - way too bland and boring. The only dish that was under seasoned
Oysters - My favorite app - cooked well with spicy sauce!
Miso soup - decent but a touch too salty
Rolls:
Buddha roll - loaded up with soft shell crab, spicy tuna and other fish that I can't remember - pretty good!
Lion roll and Dragon roll - I only had one piece from each roll, and they were decent
Entrees:
Misoyaki cod - this had great potential, but it was too salty and over seasoned
Teriyaki chicken - again, could have been great, but the teriyaki sauce was too thick and salty
Tempura - way too much batter
Gyoza - not the authentic Japanese kind, it's the crispy Panda Express kind, but it comes with a nice spicy chili oil
Hiyayakko Tofu - fresh, good and comes with the right amount of katsuobushi ( or bonito flakes?), ginger and scallions
Overall, I think this place was just too salty with heavy sauces. It's definitely not the authentic Japanese style of using subtle flavors to highlight the taste of the ingredients. Maybe that's why it's "fusion"? If they lighten up on the salt and thick sauces, then I would go back again.
My BF and I came in here for lunch because we found a coupon in the SN&R. We both had bentos and shared a California Roll. The food was delicious and perfect portions. The service as kinda slow, and we were the only ones in there! The California Roll was pretty good, but it was kinda falling apart. It was very cheap too. I'll probably come back sometime.
I admit that I was skeptical going in. BUT. The fish is fresh, and the prices are very reasonable (definitely more so than Stonegrill). Like the others have said, the bento boxes are a great deal for a decent amount of food. And every week I get more and more excited that they continue to advertise their "buy 1 item get 1 half off" coupon, which I've used every time (usually to buy more food rather than just get the bento box, so keep posting that ad! haha). I will be back for sure.
Hashi is is the reincarnation of Stonegrill. Same owner, staff and location, new lower priced menu. Very reasonably priced Japanese cuisine. Their $7.50 two-item lunch bento boxes are available for dinner at just $2 extra. Lots of rolls from which to choose. I had the Korean short ribs/ nigiri bento box, and a scallop/tobiko roll. For four people, 3 having a glass of wine, the bill was about $100. An enjoyable meal.
I went here on a dinner date this last Sunday looking for the Stonegrill, which this place used to be. I was super excited when I found out they still did the Lava Rock meats and seafood. We got there at 430, but they don't open until 5 for dinner, but they let us sit at the bar for a beer and sake anyways. The bartender didn't pay us any attention and was more busy flirting with the guys and the old man on the other sides. Then they said we were okay to be seated. They tried to sit us at the 2 person tables by the sushi bar, which would not have been enough room for us to do the lava rocks, so we went back to the bar. When going to the bathroom, we saw that they had a huge dining area, but never offered to seat us there. I was super excited to try the lava rocks, until i had to ask the bartender how to do it, and she very hurridly told me a couple of things then skirted off. Sooo the food was okay (i didn't know how to cook it) and the ambiance was nice, but the service was awful. I'd try it again, as long as there was a different bartender and i was able to sit up top.
This is definitely a new addition to our list of great sushi joints. They have a great menu of tapa-inspired small plates, which allows you to try a little of everything. "Fire Oysters", raw on the half shell topped with wasabi tobiko, pesto, a touch of jack cheese, Tabasco and Japanese mayo, and finished off with a squirt of lemon juice. Probably my favorite of the night...we also tried a few more of their favorites, like the Kobe Carpaccio, Enoki Filet Mignon, Flying Shrimp, and Hawaiian Walu. If you like tuna and have never had Walu, you HAVE to try it - the texture and flavor are out of this world! The Pyramid of Tartare is another very inventive dish; its a stack of smashed avocado, salmon, tuna over which you pour your own sweet garlic ginger soy to dip these little black sesame chips. I wish I had a camera with me because my descriptions don't do it justice. Just go and give it a try...oh, and did I say FULL BAR?!
My husband and I decided to eat here before attending a play at a local theater. We are from L.A. but spend a lot of time in the Sacramento area due to work. We have yet to find a sushi bar that we can all "ours" in Sac. This might be it! We sat at the small sushi bar in this very nice restaurant. Dennis was our sushi chef. He was very amiable and made our dining experience quite enjoyable. The other wait staff was also attentive. Our glasses were never empty or even half empty. Now for the reason we came here - the sushi. We enjoyed a roll we've never had anywhere else. the Godzilla. It was prepared with sweet shrimp, mango, avocado, walnut and coconut flake. Delicious! I think I would have had this roll last, instead of first, since it is more desert like. We also had the Buddha, soft shell crab, spicy tuna, snow crab, avocado, seared tuna, unagi, sauce, scallions. While not unusual it was equally delicious. The yellow tail sushi and Spanish mac were also tasty. The other rolls as well as the sashimi looked very desirable. As I write this I could go for a roll or two right now! The price was very reasonable and we will definitely return.
