Outstanding market and shopping experience. The olive bar is aplenty and has THE best basil, fresh mozzarella and marinated sundried tomato salad I've ever tasted. Their meat department is fantastic (haven't had a piece of chicken or filet that good in a long time). Great selection of bulk spices and a nice balance of organic, vegetarian, vegan, and regular items. A little on the expensive side but well worth it. Go here if you want a bigger selection than Corners of the Mouth but clearly don't want the generic experience of a Safeway.

I think this is the largest market in downtown Mendocino. And it's not that big.
It brings you back to slower times, a full service market that also carries dry goods and has a pharmacy. The difference is you still find yourself in this decade. You may be in a very small town but this market definitely has the "gourmet taste" influence.
Lots of health foods, fresh produce, wines, deli items, an interesting abundance of snacks, clever kitchen goods, and attractive gift items.
This is a fun but also practical store. -

Nice grocery store. Has all the essentials, high quality produce and meats. A great selection of prepared eats-to-go and TONS of yummy cheese too. Reminded me of the "uppity" grocers in Portland: Whole Foods, Zupans, New Seasons, but not over-priced.
Had some tasty deli salads, got the necessary firewood and beer for the night of camping - all and all an overall pleasant market experience! -

This is a great independent market with tons of interesting, unique products. It has saved me several times that I have come to town hoping to score some jam from the jam store only to find it closed. The market stocks the jam (hooray!) along with many other great products.

I have NO idea where these ridiculously high ratings are coming from, and what even warrants them in the first place! This place has a terrible selection, high prices, and the customer service.... HA! Surly locals, surly hippies, bad ambiance. Take a pass on this one, and drive a couple of miles to the Fort Bragg one, it's worth it!

Solid grocery/variety store!
Beach towels, buckets and pails, salad spinners, dish towels, USA organic Braeburn apples at $1.29/lb., Ft. Bragg Bakery bread, Sonoma County goat cheese, big variety of microbrews and wine.
Really reasonable prices for an impressive selection of high-quality and local items.
Great place to stock up on lunch items and snacks before heading to Orr Hot Springs for the afternoon!Listed in: Mendocino County Getaway

This feels like a Safeway meets Whole Foods to me. I really like the store. They have a great cheese selection!
I have not been here in over a year so it's hard for me to think of to many things to say but I do know you can get Thanksgiving coffee here and I love it! I only gave it 4 stars because I think the prices are a little hight. -

Walking and exploring sure can make you thirsty but luckily this market was nearby.
What a neat find! This place has so many interesting and wonderful products plus you'll find some rare treats, healthy eats, and your usual grub. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful.
We stocked up on snacks and drinks. We also walked around and checked out what else they had to offer but most of it was pretty expensive just like everything else in small towns are we soon discovered because any major chain grocery store is miles away. Tom Horner gave us a true market to be proud of. Great meat, produce and wine.

Parked the RV across the street and stocked up for a few meals while camping North of town.
Great selection of "crunchy granola" type of food found at Whole Foods types of markets.
I'm giving an extra star for not making me drive seven miles to Fort Bragg and Safeway, if I paid an extra couple of bucks in Mendocino I made up for it in fuel savings. -

I frequently stop here before work to grab lunch, usually consisting of the salad bar. I really appreciate the salad bar, as it's exactly what I want and it doesn't break the bank as much as ordering a disappointing lunch at some cafe/deli here in the village.
This is a much more limited version of Harvest in Ft. Bragg but all in all, it has a good selection of what everyone needs in a grocery store. -

THE grocery store in Mendocino - so they can mark up their prices as much as they want - we'll still shop there when in town! The selection is actually very good considering the remote location of the town. It seems like the store goes on for miles.
Great meats and veggie selection. We bought the ingredients for our meals for our stay and weren't disappointed by the quality/freshness. My only complaint is the price, but that is expected in such an out of the way locale. If you're staying in Little River, though, save your booze buying for the Little River Market down the road - their wine prices are definitely lower there. -

It's a cute place - quaint even - and reminds me of an equally cute market in Portola Valley. Harvest Market carries just enough of what you need to carry you through until you can drive up to Fort Bragg to the Safeway. Some items are overpriced, as one would expect, and then you'll find something you actually need priced at a bargain rate. The meat selection looked good, and the frozen section is well stocked. I did notice a lack of fresh, artisan baked goods; I would have expected that here. One thing that struck me was Crystal Geyser Water for 45 cents!! In the Bay Area a single bottle sets me back $1.00 - 1.50! Stock up folks!
They have great Chinese food selections in the pre-packaged cold foods section. It's awesome!!
Great hand made burritos, too. Very tasty. -

Harvest Market at Mendosa's doesn't have much grocery competition in the area. As far as I know, this is THE place to go for groceries in Mendocino. Some of our best finds here included:
- Bob's Red Wine: actually called that with a picture of Bob on the bottle; so good for $4.50 per bottle!
- a variety of yummy asian seaweed crackers
- Blood orange sparkling juice (like very fancy Martinelli's!) on sale for $2.99
- box of avocado sushi -

Great for early morning preparations or mid-day aspirations. Fresh sandwiches made daily, personalized with the maker's name written on the side. First-rate food and beverage selection. We came early for our picnic needs on the way to the coast. With a grocery store on the left half of Mendosa's and a hardware store on the right half, they have everything pretty much covered. It's the one-stopper dime-dropper for the Mendocino shopper.

Great little place to grab all your beach picnic needs! We, being the girlfriend and my parents, stopped by here last weekend and picked some fantastic stuff. I grabbed a steak cheese sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it, as did my cohorts with their choices. Selection is wonderful for both wine, drinks, chips, and anything else you would need.
Just a wee bit on the more expensive side, but you must come to expect that when stopping by in such a secluded, beauty of a town. -

Minus one because I could spend too much money here.
$7.99 for dehydrated peaches? Well...maybe this one time...
$5.00 for fruit chips? It sounds so interesting, I guess it's ok to put those in too...
$.69 an ounce for your own jar of local honey? What, they only have quart sizes? So thats...about $25 for a quart...mebe next time.Listed in: Mendo--cino, yo

Finally, a place with a great organic selection without the pretentious feel of Whole Foods. Loved their premade hummus sandwich with sprouts! Nice shop to stop by and grab sandwiches for a hike. Salad bar too.

Your cute Mendo B&B a little stingy on the TP?
Head over to Harvest Market and get a personal pack all your own.
You won't regret it.
Yeah...they sell foodstuffs and other goodies here too. But we come for the TP! -

This is where I got my bitch wine! My exciting purchase of an Australia Grenache *see picture* http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Is it made for bitches? Or does drinking it turn you into one? Who knows?
Anyways...
Not much of a selection foodwise. Produce, a bit of snacks. Tons of local wines though. Prices are reasonable, considering it being the only place for groceries in Mendocino. -

We always restock up on food here when we camp every year down at Van Damme State Park.
We got several pounds of rib eye steak from the butcher for under $22... Fed a family of five and then some.
The produce selection is fresh and they have plenty of other items in stock, at decent prices. We needed a basting brush and found the exact same brush we paid for at Safeway in Ft. Bragg for two bucks less at Mendosa's. -

For Mendo locals, this is kinda like the really cool independent/family owned market that everyone goes to and everyone knows each others names.
On the small side for a market, but none the less carries all of the food and amenities you would need. Fresh produce, a few wee little free standing rolling carts with olives, salads, various pre-cooked dishes by the pound, a decent selection of beer and wine, tons of snacks from local vendors, soap, pots, pans, a deli/butcher, fire wood, candy, the list goes on..
The prices are a little steep like the fuckers at Whole Foods, but hey.. it's just another local business trying to make a dollar holler.. it's expected.
Definitely plan on stopping by again to stock up on food and such if ever I'm in town. FYI, white chocolate brick w/ cranberries, raspberries and strawberries.. TO DIE FOR!! -

East Bay
A very popular store that sells groceries and hardware. We went there a couple of times during our recent Mendocino trip and they seemed to be out of several of the basics.
I agree with some of the other reviewers that there is a "Whole Foods" kind of vibe to it. (Not necessarily bad). The friendly, down-to-earth staff makes it seem like your corner market.
IMHO I prefer the small worker-owned Corners of the Mouth. I hope Harvest doesn't take away too much of their business. -

I went here for the first time on June 2nd. I'd never been in the area, let alone a really classy neighborhood market. It was clean, well stocked and prices were decent for a way out there place. A friend and I were well serviced by a young hispanic gentleman who's name I wish I remembered, but was most friendly and helpful.

Bay Area
Totally feels like a scaled-down, small-town version of Whole Foods. I loved it (yes, I'm a total YUP).
I could perhaps move out of the Bay Area and live in a "village" if there was a nice little grocery store smack dab in the middle of it like this one. Beautiful meats and produce. Great "general store/hardware" area off to the right too. High end goodies all over the place. -

We've been visiting Mendocino since the 70's and are SOOOOO glad that Mendosa's Market has been taken over by the Harvest Market people of Fort Bragg. Now there is finally a decent all purpose grocery store in the village.
Sure, Corners of the Mouth health food store is great, but it's tiny and doesn't really carry everything you might need.
YAY for Harvest Market, the BEST grocery stores on the North Coast! -

Mendosa's is a single listing in the phonebook, but actually it's a grocery store and a hardware store side by side on Lansing St. Prices are reasonable (they sell to locals as well as tourists) so you can pick up some picnic gear without blowing your vacation money.
The grocery has all the basics you'd expect in a small-town store. The hardware has both normal hardware items and hunting and camping gear. The hardware staff are pretty helpful and will guide you if you feel particularly lost, but I just like wandering around and getting those items I forgot to pack, or didn't know I needed. -

Hadn't been in here since Harvest bought it away from the evil Mendosa types - ok, they're not evil, but I know my dad hates them for some of the stuff they did in the Village 40 years ago - and was really impressed. If you haven't been in here since they took it over, they've completely remodeled (except for the meat - same nice butcher - and refrigerators) and restocked. Harvest always has the weird vibe of Whole Foods lite along with carrying standard stuff, which can be priced a lot cheaper especially when on sale.
The hardware store side still exists (closes at 7 instead of 10 like the rest of the store) although they're talking about moving it out to the shed or something. Hopefully they'll fill out the hardware store side to bring up the selection to close to that of the parent store, which I'm guessing has like 4x the square footage.
Normally would be 4 stars unless it was something extraordinary, but had to give them 5 after a Ralph Lauren wearing Jaguar driving snob asked where he could buy booze and was politely told about the offsite sales at the local bar. I asked the cashier why he didn't send him up to the parent store in Fort Bragg with their huge collection. His response was, "Well, the bar is more expensive than us and he screwed up the environment getting up here in that thing anyway." Priceless. -

The usual good, fresh food -- and then the quirky things like a book on Squirrels of North America (purchased) and impromptu party supplies (heat lamp torches, party plates, and TAG products). You can get lost in here... so much good stuff.

Quaint, overpriced, has great cheeses. Real small town feel. Got my fix of Dr. B's soaps for the camping season.

Harvest at Mendosa's is perfectly to scale with the surroundings. Mendocino is a tiny village close to some of the world's best food and wine. Harvest at Mendosa's brings all of that inside with tons of organic, local, and artisanal items. Considering the competition - none - and what Whole Foods charges normally for similar groceries, the prices seemed fair. PS their meats and produce looked good and if we had rented a house instead of staying at a B&B I'm sure we would have celebrated by cooking some Mendosa's food into a meal. On this trip I was just thankful there was somewhere to buy lip balm, snacks, and a shirt from the local brewery in one stop.

oooh! this place takes the blame for delaying our departure from Mendocino to get on a hike because:
1. they had cases of lagunitas on sale and I just had to convince my sweetie that we need at least THREE cases (one of which I lugged about a mile to our vehicle) to take home with us
2. they had so many yummy things
3. they had cool housewares and art supplies and things that really distract me immensely
4. the peeps were uber friendly and nice, I like that in a place... -

As another Yelper, Lisa S. previously stated, it's like a scaled-down "Whole Foods". They have a lot of organic stuff, something I didn't expect in a market like this, which is pretty large for a small town. They have a larger selection of Thanksgiving organic, fair trade coffee beans, which is why I came in. Even more choices than the 4-5 offered at the Mendocino Bakery & Cafe, which is owned by Thanksgiving Coffee Co. You can purchase the beans by filling your own or pre-packaged for approx $10/lb. (Same price at Mendo Bakery). There's about 2 shelves of wine and we picked up 2 bottles of Scharffenberger Sparkling wine on sale for $16. Even at $40, the Roederer Estate Sparkling wine was $5 cheaper than what a local wine shop was charging. They have one of the largest Avalon organic shampoo/conditioner selection I've ever seen. Usually it's lavender and lemon. But, they had rosemary and other scents.
They have a meat section, cheeses, local honey, and produce, etc. You can tell the locals shop here. I picked up an organic dark chocolate bar, Lake Champlain, from Vermont. Never heard of it before but it was quite good.
One lady asked the clerk how come they were so busy & the clerk responded that it's been that way since school let out for the summer.
Don't be surprised if they ask you for your birth date and enter that info into the computer when you make any alcoholic purchase. On a second visit, the older male clerk was unfriendly, as if he didn't want to help you & I had to ask for a bag as he was just going to have me carry my one purchase of a lb. of coffee beans out the door, like a shoplifter. Yes, Mendo residents of approx 1000, I know you hate tourists, but we do help keep your economy going and I'm not one of those obnoxious tourists.Listed in: Mendocino, here I come

Your all American general store. Get in quick before Walmart squeezes out the last hand full of these places.

Made several visits here during our two nights in a rented house in Little River... mostly because it was the ONLY place to get groceries in the area. But still, it is a great market and general store. I love general stores. They are charming. And always ALWAYS overcharge, but that's to be expected in a small town like this. We came here to pick up some breakfast stuff for the house, and I was pleasantly surprised to find my favorite cereal on the shelves! And the new Paste magazine! And Clif Nectar bars! Nice!

Good selection of wines to your everyday products, toiletries, to grocery items, Harvest Market carries them and at a reasonable price. Snagged some postcards for $0.40 each and bf bought a toothbrush here since he forgot to bring his.

This was like mini-Whole Foods crossed with a hardware store, with a cool local vibe. We were only in Mendocino for a weekend, but I could see that we'd be able to find almost anything we wanted if we'd been there longer. The Harvest Market folks were so nice and helpful, whether we were asking about where to find aluminum foil or where to have brunch. I loved shopping here.

We purchased mostly drinks here. They have a variety of Hansen's flavors that I normally don't see anywhere else. It's a great market for a little town as it seems to have pretty much everything. Also the ATM fee is only 1.50. Love how they use paper bags here and they weren't cheap to double bag the drinks either.
