Haru is a great place in Midtown if you are looking for good sushi! I've been here many times for business lunches and have never left disappointed. The prices are reasonable, the service is attentive and the food has always been great. I recommend the Spicy Titanic Roll--I tried it once and have gotten it along with another small roll ever since!

I would advise to make a reservation if you are going for lunch--it tends to get very busy, full of suits, so be prepared to wait if you do not have a reservation. Also, they do have a seamless account and deliver--I have used this option as well and it is very convenient.

What is the freakin deal with the decor? This place is incredibly over-done inside. It's very confusing.

That said, the food was pretty good. The kitchen really knows their sauces. We had a chicken curry sauce that was fantastic, all of the dipping sauces were delicious, and the spicy tuna rolls were seriously amazing. Even the miso soup was notable. We had shrimp tempura, which I was a really big fan of, and also came with an awesome dipping sauce, and the crab dumplings to share. The Spicy Garlic Shrimp was more 'spiced' than 'spicy' and they really were serious about the garlic. The portion was huge, I couldn't come close to finishing it after all the things we shared, but would recommend it to serious garlic lovers.

One piece of advice though - don't order meat. The meats were all overcooked and dry. Also, steer clear of the fried things in the lunch boxes, they are terrifying.

I think I've been to all the Harus in the city at some point or another.  Warning though, my thinking may not be accurate as I never knew this one existed.
Ambiance was okay...not my favourite location.  Plasticy weird seats.
I always order the same dishes because I know they deliver a solid taste and value.
The service, ugh, was extremely nice yet they had a hard time with conversational English and times that by 3.  Yes, we had 3 waiters in rotation asking us every two minutes if everything was okay.  At least I think that's what they said.

I came here for lunch and ordered a sushi combo; the sushi was average for such a hefty price. I had definitely expected more out of this place, considering that it's one of a series of excellent restaurants on Park Avenue between 23rd and 14th. I would give it the benefit of the doubt though because perhaps they do better for dinner.

Fun place to go with pretty good food in general. I like the duck salad and any sushi roll. A few years ago we were badly treated by the hostess and I complained to the manager. Next thing I know they sent me a coupon for a free meal and the manager always makes sure we get a table fast. I have been going for years since then and will continue going.

great lunch specials, friendly wait staff and nice ambience. busy during lunch, but try to get there before 12pm and you'll be seated quickly. Price is up there, but you'll feel like you're getting your money's worth with the bento box at lunch.  nice place for a business lunch, and you can also bring a date here

    I love this place.

I had eaten at Haru Boston several times and loved it, so i thought i would check out the one in NYC when i was nearbye.

    did not dissapoint.

Honestly, i am pretty sure the Gramercy Park Roll is the most incredible thing i have ever tasted. It sweet, spicy, fruity, and wonderful.

it must be made of angel fish, or some shit like that. i dunno.

Also, the Saki Mojito is killer.

One advantage this has over boston is the outdoor seating.

This place seems to have gone downhill. I mean, like took a nose dive and crashed into a cliff, then continued to roll downhill.

I had given this place a 5 star rating when I first reviewed it. I revisited recently, and was more than slightly annoyed. The hostess claimed to not have our reservation, meanwhile I remembered speaking to her not 2 hours before. Regardless, we were still sat. She sat us upstairs, then told us we could only have the table she sat us at if we were going to be done in under an hour. When I said we weren't, we were sat in the middle of the dining room. OK. A table is a table. Our waiter was rude and uncaring.

We ordered a large assortment of sushi for the two of us. Woah. Sub-par isn't even the words for it. The yellow tail was crunchy. CRUNCHY. This was sashimi. Nothing should have crunched. The meat was just that hard. We also had a few rolls. The avacado on one was brown. The rice in another was falling out. We had edamame as well, and they were cold and unsalted.

When I expressed my dislike to the manager, I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. We didn't eat half of the food, and not so much as an apology was offered.

This was my favourite sushi place in Manhattan, and now I refuse to return.

What smells fishy and makes my tummy hurt?

The sushi at Haru Sushi. It was over priced, the wait staff was not very helpful considering there weren't that many people at the restaurant.

I feel a little queasy, don't go. Whoever has said that this is the best sushi in NYC may be getting paid by the company as it is definitely not even close to the best or even the cheapest and the best.

The bartender was friendly and we hadn't been there in a while.  It was a Monday night, Columbus day.  The yellow tail was on it's way out so I sent it back.  The rolls were good though-salmon avocado and spicy tuna.  What used to be great but was pretty bad was the calamari salad.  Calamari undercooked and not so fresh, mushy tempura coating which needed another 5 minutes in the fryer.  The Salad itself was good.

They may be resting on their laurels and better wake up.  There are a lot of places to eat sushi in NYC.

The decor is kinda awesome. Faux bioluminscent jellyfish glow in tanks above the sushi bar. The pillows are plastic-filled bamboo shavings that are amazingly comfortable. It's a sensory experience across the board.

That said, the food is decent but overpriced. But what do you want?? It's midtown. The service is so-so, and it's crowded even on weeknights. The lychee martinis are effing fantastic, but the overall experience is definitely 3 stars.

Pretty cool spot - food is pretty good and the atmosphere is nice.. it's one of my regular spots to get sushi.  I love the King Crab dumplings.. it's so yummy!!  Chicken Teriyaki is alright ...taste regular.. nothing special.

What I like about this place is they have pretty good tempura sushi if you don't like raw fish.  They have shrimp tempura and seafood tempura rolls.. sometimes I get a roll of each for a meal which is pretty filling since it's fried.  The california, king crab and tuna rolls are pretty good too.

My friend loves their eel rolls and some of my friends love getting sashimi here.. I've tried it but I won't comment on it because sashimi is really not my thing.

The service here is ok... people are relatively nice.  Coming here for lunch can be annoying because the wait is long and sometimes even after you are seated you have to wait a while to get served.  Coming here for dinner is a lot seamless.

The food here is amazing! I haven't tried much of their menu but so far everything is fantastic, especially their obento boxes!

The prices are what you would expect from a Japanese restaurant in NYC but it is worth the price.

I usually get my lunches to go so I dont know how the service is but the interior is nice. It has an asian atmosphere and spacious.

I went to Haru Sushi on Park ave with a friend for a belated-birthday dinner. I LOVED the sushi here. Everything was fresh, cut perfectly, and absolutely delicious. We shared a Park Avenue roll, which includes a topping of mango slices and gold leaf, and a Gramercy roll. Both were amazing, I would definitely recommend trying these rolls.

We also had a few Lycheetinis, a coconut-infused mojito, and a Haru Painkiller. They were all equally delicious. Best lycheetini I've had in a long time.

The service at Haru Sushi was  great. I didn't have to wait to have my drink refilled and was offered more wasabi TWICE, after they noticed we were running low. Most sushi places give you a hard time if you ask for extra wasabi or soy-sauce, but our waiter was more than accommodating.

Haru Sushi definitely earned five stars in my book.

Service bad. Took about 50 minutes to get our order, and no one bothered to explain or inform us that the food was late. However I did look around, and no one else had their food.

Ordered the Sushi and Sashimi for Two, and the Tempura dinner. The Sushi and Sashimi for Two can easily feed three eager sushi eaters and 4 not-so-hungry people. Comes with three maki rolls, 8 nigiri's, and another 8 slices of sashimi. Fresh, and tasted really good. The sashimi was nice and cold, and they were big pieces, not itty bitty. Tempura was light and not battery. The shrimp was a good size, and there was a nice selection of vegetables.

Not as crowded and loud as the Times Square one, where you can hardly have a work conversation at lunch time without feeling like you've gone clubbing.

Decor is pretty cool and good and nice service :-)

Sushi? overpriced but competent. If you are charging it, great sure, go for it. If you are funding it, well, not so sure about it, but then again that is MidTown (however wrong this statement is, it is what it is, and short of giving up sushi in midtown or getting sick, there is no other solution). So hail to Corporate Amex!

Reliable, slightly more Americanized sushi place. good salads big chucks of fish for sashimi and an usual spot for corporate dinning. However, compared to Hatsuhana or sushi den it's definitely two levels below in terms of menu, presentation, selection and fish.

I would prefer Haru over most other sushi take outs but it's not as delicate as Hatsu or sushi den.

Eulgh.  I got the Shrimp Tempura and it was all soggy and greasy,  much too heavy for tempura. I ended up just peeling the fried parts off to make it somewhat edible.

I love Haru. I work by Haru. I take out guests or meet friends for lunch at Haru, I go to happy hours at Haru, and when I work late, we order from Haru. So I'd say I'm pretty familiar with Haru.

I'm not a big sushi lover, but I'll do tempura and various rolls. The lunchbox special (soup/salad, tempura, chicken teriyaki, california rolls) is a great deal for lunch, the happy hour cocktails (pomegranate martini) and appetizers (seafood or vegetable spring rolls, edaname) and corporate professional scene make this the best time to visit, and ordering in for a late night at the office is always an easy process. My usual order varies from the rock shrimp tempura appetizer or the shrimp tempura roll - make sure you specifiy. And my favorite hot entree is the grilled spicy garlic shrimp. It's marinated in a hot chili sauce that has just the right amount of smoke and heat. A little on the pricey side, but the perfect choice when someone else is treating you to dinner.

Our party of seven showed up without reservations at 7:30 on a Friday evening and had no trouble getting a table (granted, it had been raining). Yes, it's relatively expensive, but you're paying a premium for the locale and the decor. We shared two appetizers and had an entree and one beer apiece, and our tab averaged $45 per person, including tip. My three-roll Kabuki maki combo was tasty and a bargain at $16. The electronic jellyfish presiding over the sushi bar are worth a visit all by themselves. The servers were pleasant and courteous. We all had a good time, so what's not to like?

Went here for a late dinner last week with a bunch of people and I was a bit skeptic because I never heard of it before but I must say I was impressed with this location. The décor is very nice and they a sick glass waterfall at the entrance.

Although it was around 10 I think when we got to the place it was packed but we were seated in 5 to 10 min minutes max.

Since we were 7 people we got to order quite an array of items from main dishes to sushi. The service was very good, the dishes were aesthetically pleasing and the taste matched the look! We skipped dessert because we were all stuffed so overall very good food and the crowd was nice too!

I would definitely recommend this location to others and come back here if I'm in the area and in the mood for Japanese.

The atmosphere is great here. I have been taken here twice on dates and both times I was impressed. The sushi is just ok though for the price. I have been other places in the city that have much better sushi for the money. The bar is a nice place to hang out with a date and get a glass of wine. You are basically paying for the atmosphere, because the food is overpriced and overrated.

Again, to steal from U2: "Uno, dos, tres, catorce." In English it translates as "one, two, three, fourteen." And that is the correct math for a review on Yelp.

Uno: one Happy Hour that consisted of a group of people that can entertain one another for, literally, minutes on end.

Dos: two California rolls which were very fresh, delicious and very filling. Two was also the number of Spicy Tuna rolls I had, which were beyond delicious.

Tres: three hugs that I got from my Yelp crush, who as always shall remain nameless

Catorce: Fourteen seconds was how long each hug lasted from my Yelp Crush.

Fourteen was the number of times I put my head down on the bar from all the Lychee Martinis I had.

Fourteen was also the number of times I think I almost passed out from all the Lychee Martinis I had.

We had a party of 5 and they refused to let us push 2 tables together to get more space and made us cram 5 people at a 4 person table. Automatically a star off. Especially considering how empty it was outside because, dude, it's getting chilly!

The individual green tea pots were a nice touch, definitely a fan. The sushi was quite good. I had the sumo combo (eel cucumber, salmon avocado, and spicy tuna). The rolls were definitely made with some very fresh fish, but the spicy tuna was anything but! Looking at the sashimi and combo plates being carried out, I think maybe that's the best way to go, but it's still pretty pricey for the quality we got.

In short, not bad, but there is much better sushi to be had, and I will find and eat it! Consider that a threat!

    *Lunch

There's always a wait if you come after 12:30 and there is no reservations. that blows.

The most memorable part of my meal last time was the:
Lemongrass Hot & Sour Soup - so spicy, so good. Warms you to the core. In fact, I'm craving it right now.
also good, the rock shrimp appetizer.
on another note - I always smell like food after I leave this place and I'm not sure if it's the restaurant as a whole or the rock shrimp...

I've tried their rolls and it's nothing out of the ordinary. There are definetly other places around here with better sushi.

I was really in the mood for a nice glass of plum wine and a few pieces of inari last night, so I went to Haru with a friend.  The outdoor seating was nice on a warm evening.

After seeing the menu, I chose the plum mojito instead of plum wine.  A light, refreshing drink for Spring.  It went well with my inari (ok, so I really just wanted the yummy wasabi).

The only down side was that my tofu appetizer came with bonito flakes, which I found out half way through my dish are actually dried, smoked, fish flakes.  Fish!  At a Sushi restaurant!  I'm such a naive vegetarian.

So my lovely lady friend and I meet at Haru.

It's on the side of a huge building on Park Avenue.  I'm kinda getting a smalltown transplant emotion "Wow...it's so big". [That's what she said]

The place is lovely.  Nice cool blue / marine / teal thing happening with the decor.  The hostesses are gorgeous and well dressed, I felt a bit out of place with my tight hipster outfit (that's what I get for letting Mario dress me) but I coordinated and smelled good so I felt okay.

I came here because of Josie...my guanaco princess.  She suggested the Happy Hour.  I must say it was enjoyable and very well priced for the area and venue.

7 dollar cocktails (as opposed to 12 dollar cocktails) paired with inexpensive drafts (can't quite remember the pricetag) and 3 dollar california rolls (yes I'm still a rookie) and 6 dollar chicken teriyaki breast.

Best cocktails IOHO (In OUR humble opinion)
    -Komodo Dragon (her pick)
    -The Derby (my pick)

Komodo is all things sweet and delicious.
Derby is less sweet, but just so...breezy.

Sake Mojito is good, Cherry Blossom is forgettable.  That Komodo is dope...

Cool note on the breast: You get the whole cutlet, they slice it but preserve it's general shape so it's a nice portion.

On my recent trip to NYC, after a lovely afternoon of shopping, I was craving some serious sushi.  My friend recommended Haru, as it's her favorite sushi joint in the city, and she knew there was one relatively nearby.

The place was empty when we walked in, but the staff was very friendly.  However, despite being devoid of customers, it took us flagging down our waitress to order, and then to get our water refilled.  The rolls we chose were yummy, although a little on the small side.  I definitely could've eaten everything that we ordered without sharing.  Prices are okay, but nothing stellar.

I'd try Haru again, but maybe at a different location.

    New York, NY

    3.0 star rating
    5/7/2007

Straight up-- this place is all decor, ambiance and of course, creativity which all fusion restaurants are built upon.  With that said, the decor is amazing, with a luxury feel, high ceilings, glass waterfalls, comfortable booths and bar on each floor.  Topping it off, a great drink selection and polite attentive service.

The food?  Indeed delicious.  Aside from the sushi staples, they also have a wealth of creative sushi combinations.  Other dishes include the famous salmon tar tar, fish, crispy duck, you name it.

However, this is New York.  With fierce competition at your doorsteps every block and half-basement away, the quality does not justify the price.  Looking for melt-in-your mouth one of a kind sushi?  To your left.  Flavorful filets and exotic greens?  To your right.  Awesome bar serving up a potent combination of at least 5 different colored bottles?  Honey, alcohol's flowing all over the city!

Looking for a beautiful classy fusion restaurant that does all of the above decently with a slight cost premium?  Haru definitely has a chance.  Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful place, but I'd limit it to special events.. other people throw.
