An amazing tap/bottle selection and good happy hour prices make Harry's a great place to go for happy hour, but it's a little on the pricy side without it.
However, the black bean dip appetizer? Enough to make me come back again and again. Chips, black bean dip, salsa and a lime sour cream drizzle are the perfect complement to a beer and conversation with friends in the cozy atmosphere. The music is always great and the patio is one of the best during the summertime with a great view of the downtown skyline. Get there early, though - it gets crowded fast.
It's good in the winter, too - the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo makes for fantastic comfort food. The rest of the menu is pretty good, and while I'm unlikely to go just to eat, if meeting friends out for drinks it's a place I know will have tasty options.Listed in: veg-head challenge!

OK Harry's, I like you even though you have annoyed me the last two times I have been in. So first the good. As far as neighborhood bars go, you're tops! An easy five minute walk from my loft, you make it simple to plan meetings among friends. All of my friends like you and even my friends in the Northlands are willing to drive to the Market to meet here. Your patio is great, especially during a Sunday fun day or warm weather happy hour. I love the atmosphere, kinda of a rockabilly feel. The beer selection is fantastic and the availability of whiskeys is phenomenal. I really enjoy the food here too, the happy hour fish tacos are a super deal and really good. I also love to get the spicy hummus and have liked the pizzas my friends have ordered. A vegetarian friend loves to meet me here because she can always find something, albeit usually bar food or a salad, to enjoy with her beer. Overall, the food is well priced, as are the beers.
Here are my beefs with you. No posted hours. I get that if business is slow you want to be able to close a bit early, say 12 or 1 during the week. But kicking my friends and I off the patio at 9:30 on a beautiful night because we are the only ones is ridiculous!! Perhaps you are loosing all of your night business because everyone thinks you will be closed. Oh, I was hot that night and almost swore you off! But I decided to give you another chance which went pretty well, until you told me I had move because a larger party needed our table. What? My friends and I have been here for two hours, drinking and eating pretty liberally and now you want us to uproot and find somewhere else to sit. Wrong!
OK, I said my peace. I am still a fan and will continue to visit, especially during happy hour. I do appreciate the excellent selection of beers that are pretty damn cheap during this time! -

First let me tell you about 2 of my favorite things at Harry's Country Club:
1. The ladies bathroom. It's filled with photos of men's buns. Hot little booties of sexy guys, sometimes in their undies. Applause please! Makes me smile everytime
2. The large painting over the bar of the naked woman in a headdress. So wonderful & eye-catching.
Although these could sound in poor taste, let me assure you they are not. Harry's is a class act. It's a welcoming, comfy place to gather with friends or family for some drinks or food. Decor is an homage to the good 'ol days goneby. Lots of pictures, signs & treasures to keep your eyes entertained. Service is friendly.
Their beer & liquor selection is unmatched in KC. They have a multitude of options of whatever liquor suits your pleasure, at every price point, whether it be mezcal, rye whiskey, scotch, etc...Tons of beer options too. I'm getting thirsty
Good happy hour specials on food & drinks M-F 3-7 & Sat 11-7. Food is mostly straight forward american fare with a few tex-mex & italian offerings.
Fish tacos are my fave & they've got 'em! Soft flour tortillas with grilled tilapia, cheddar & jack cheese, shredded lettuce & pico de gallo served w/ Spanish rice & chipotle sour cream. This is a hearty helping of 3 fish tacos. I prefer grilled to fried fish & these chunks are well seasoned w/ a peppery kick. Always extra points for chipotle sour cream. Spanish rice had good flavor & salsa is simple. I'm a fan of these fish tacos.
The live music offerings on the patio when the weather is nice make for a charming evening.
Pull up a bar stool or chair & settle in for a nice time at this modern saloon.Listed in: Fish Tacos!

Have you ever wanted to drink in a place with some actual soul and life to it, as opposed to the usual corporate concocted dreb of neon lights and matching uniforms? Harry's is your place. They've got posters and jukeboxes, and a dark, fun atmosphere to match the wall adornments. The waitresses are very engaging and nice, and the happy hour foods are absolutely killer. I love coming here for either cheap food and drinks or the live music they set up on the porch outside.
For such a small place, their beer selection is a wonderful surprise, with much more range than any of the bars in close proximity. I've really got no major complaints about this place, other than it not being closer to me and serving all their items for free!! Great little place in the River Market!!Listed in: Best Happy Hours

From my first hand experience, this place is Amazing. It's like the country music hall of fame in Nashville only with great food, beer and drinks!
Nashville should be so lucky to have a restaurant/ bar of this caliber. -
Review from Nicole K.
Harry's is my favorite neighborhood bar. It's comfortable and welcoming. The service is usually good, although I've had a couple instances of absent servers. According to foursquare, I've been to Harry's 43 times, so only a couple instances isn't too bad.
The food is pretty good, but not fantastic. Good American bar food. I'm not a big drinker, but my beer-fan friends like it a lot. I just like that they serve Diet Dr. Pepper.
In warm weather, the patio is delightful. The honky-tonk bands that play there are fun.
And the crowd is usually there for good times with friends, not to see and be seen. -

Holy smokes, am I the last of my Yelper friends to review? EEKS!!
I've been there a few times, including the recent wake, errrr, going away party for our Yelp goddess Joi.
We arrived early so got to partake in the yummy happy hour prices! We shared some chips with Daniel, and I think everyone enjoyed their food. Despite having 20 or so people there, I thought the waitress did a great job of keeping everyone's drinks filled, and tabs separate (couples and singles!!).
I thought that the employees were friendly and the parking convenient. Our tab turned out very reasonable, considering the number of drinks and food we had AFTER happy hour! Parking was pretty good, although the bar wasn't that crowded.Listed in: If the lights are on and no…

Kansas City, MO
Wow. I feel like I should automatically give this place 5 stars just because of hype and, you know, to follow the herd. But I'm not...sorry.
I went on a Friday at about 6:30 pm. Went inside the front door and the interior space was completely wall-to-wall with people. I was shown to a tiny table for 2 near a bathroom and I thought that would be kind of weird, so I asked to be seated outside. With some grumbling and a snotty "oooookaayyyyy" from the server, I was taken outside through the apparent smoking area and to something like a cheap patio table that had bird poop on it and did not get cleaned off until I asked twice.
That is how it began and it never got better. Fortunately, I guess, things were consistently mediocre to bad and never got horrendous. That's about the only positive thing I can think of to say. I had a hamburger and a coke and I couldn't see what the deal was with this place...the bun was just a generic bun out of a bag and the patty itself was like one of those cheap manufactured patties you buy in rolls at Wal-Mart. I got an attitude when I asked for ketchup with my fries.
Maybe people go here because it's trendy and neat and kind of shabby and old-timey on the inside. Maybe some people actually go for the music or whatever. It's a mystery to me why this place is so popular. -
Review from Brandi C.
Last weekend seemed to be a time for trying new things - new restaurants, new shops, and new bars! Harry's was one of the new places that we tried, and it was definitely A-OK, even if we were there for the sad (for us) occasion of Joi's farewell!
Harry's certainly has an old-time saloon feeling to it, especially with the large pin-up style painting over the bar - it's totally something you'd expect to have seen in Tombstone, AZ back in the 1800s. Couple that with the creaky wood floors and the comforting yellowish lighting, and you feel like you've stepped back in time. And I'm totally cool with that!
We weren't exactly sure where the group was when we got to Harry's, so we ordered a drink at the bar before scouting everything out. The bartenders were quick and friendly, and while the drinks certainly weren't cheap, they weren't horribly expensive either. The outside enclosed patio was nice enough, and I hear the proper outdoors patio area is even better, when the weather cooperates! The table service out there was a bit slow, but in fairness, she did have a large group of us to contend with.
We didn't have any food, as we were on our way to dinner, but the chips and dip seemed to be a big hit, as were the burgers.
I'm glad we finally made it to Harry's, as I had been hearing about it for ages, and I could see stopping in for a drink from time to time, though I'd probably be most content sitting at the bar. -

I recently moved to KC from Phoenix and have been in desperate search of somewhere I can go and know the food, service and drinks will be great. Harry's Country Club has provided just that. As a downtown resident, there are plenty of chains to choose from in Power and Light, but I prefer the locally owned vibe of the Rivermarket. Harry's fits that bill!
The happy hour menu is great and the food never disappoints. I strongly suggest sitting on the patio (when the weather agrees), taking in a band in the evening and enjoying a Pear and Ginger... YUM!
I have taken almost every out-of-town visitor I have had to Harry's and they all enjoy it. Each one of my friends and family members looks for something different in their drink of choice and dinner option, but they all come away satisfied, full and happy. With my picky friends and family, that is something special!
The waitstaff is always friendly, has great suggestions on drinks and menu items with fast service.
If you want a casual, low-key place to take in a great dining experience, Harry's Country Club is for you... I know it's for me!Listed in: Best Happy Hour

Review from Daniel H.
I met up with Joi B. and other yelpers for Joi's farewell. They were in the patio area that was enclosed which would be opened but it was windy and cold. This place was a little small with limited seats and tables inside as well as the patio area.
Everybody there already had drinks and a couple of appetizers. I ordered a Murphy's Irish Stout since I ate before I came. Our waitress was super friendly and nice. My Murphy's Irish Stout tasted like a lighter version of Guinness but still good in my opinion. I also shared some chips and sour cream dip with another yelper. The chips and sour cream dip were a good combination together.
Somebody ordered a burger and it made me want to order one too. It looked pretty good and the fries were tiny. I don't know the name of it but I'll be sure to try it next time. -
Review from Zach G.
I have been here before and really liked Harry's. Had I done a review of this place before (this was my first time there since getting on Yelp), it would have been 4 stars bordering on 5. However, my most recent experience makes me hesitant to ever come back - this was probably 1.5 stars, but I'll round up to 2.
First, this was a Monday night around 6:30pm. When I asked what the happy hour specials were, seeing as this place is routinely noted for its happy hour, I was told "there isn't one". Seriously? Because your website says Monday to Friday from 3-7. There was a concert up the street at City Market at 8pm, so maybe they suspended the happy hour for that day only, but that still doesn't make sense. We decided we would take a few minutes to decide what to get to drink, but were completely ignored for about 15 minutes, despite our server helping all of the tables around us.
During the wait, I went up to the bar to check out the vodka supply. The amount of liquors of all kinds behind the counter were spectacular. I was chatting with the bartenders for a few minutes while looking and they were really very friendly and seemed to know their stuff. While harping the good parts of my night, I must say that this place has a nice ambiance and a laid back feel.
So when we finally did get a chance to order, I decided to order a Belvedere martini, straight up. They were mixed quite well - nice and smooth. I forgot to ask for olive's on the first one, so I did after it came. I was tossed 4 small, ugly, tasteless olives on a napkin...not really the way to serve them for a martini.
When our third person came to the table, she was helped immediately while my girlfriend and I were ignored. Eventually, we did get a chance to order food. And wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. Same thing with all the other tables around us. In the end, it took 50-60 minutes to get our food. And that food wasn't tough to make - Cuban sandwich and fries for me, Reuben and fries for m'lady, and...I forget what kind of sandwich and fries for the third at our table.
And the food itself? Pretty mediocre. My Cuban was soggy on one side, had almost no meat whatsoever, and the fries were almost cold. Same with my girlfriend's Reuben. 50-60 minutes for a basic sandwich with no meat and cold fries, and no explanation or apology for the wait? Ridiculous. I understand the place was busy for the concert...but the concert wasn't a surprise, they should have staffed for it. And I can understand a delay, even a long one, but keep your customers updated and at least say "I am so sorry for the wait, the kitchen just got hit with so many orders at once." I can understand that, I can accept that...but for pete sake, keep us updated and say you're sorry.
Refills of drinks were slow. Again, the third person at our table was helped while my girlfriend and I were somewhat ignored - he took her order, then walked off (despite our empty glasses) before we waved him back to actually help us. I ordered another martini, he walked away, I said "oh can I get olives this time?" to which he rolled his eyes and said OK. Really? I'm ordering an $8.50 martini and you're rolling your eyes when I have a simple request for olives? At least they came on a stick this time.
So, was this a one time bad experience? Maybe...but there were no apologies, no explanations, and just an absolutely terrible server...perhaps one of the worst and rudest of my life. If I ever go back (big if), I will sit at the bar, have a drink, and do nothing else whatsoever. I cannot imagine ever ordering food here again.Listed in: KC Originals

Went for the second time last weekend and had there food for the first time. Started with onion rings, I had the French dip and my wife had the chicken salad sandwhich al were good. Must try the St. Peters cream stout and the chocolate martini's! The wait staff was friendly and the bar tenders knew there drinks.
Prices were fair. Seen other reviews about prices going up but what isn't going up in price?

I used to go to Harry's quite a bit when living in the area, but toward the end of that time less and less.
The atmosphere and the bar probably are more of the draw. The place has a great vibe to it and I really like the vintage look and feel of the place.
Bartenders here are generally smart and can hold a good discussion. Most of the wait staff knows how to treat customers (I say most because some of the people working here are not trained well).
All well and good, right? Meh.
Here's the thing. Prices continually increase. It has one of the longest Happy Hours in Kansas City. Two years ago, this Happy Hour was an amazing deal and some of it still kind of is. I get prices sometimes have to go up. But it's pretty silly. It feels like they get you hooked and then continually raise the price.
Plus, beers can be outrageously priced when not on the Happy Hour menu. I think a Boulevard runs about $6. A PBR is $3. It's ridamndiculous! I won't take it! And I don't. I just drink elsewhere now. -

I really, really, really, really adore their happy hour. One of the best happy hours in town. And the bartenders are extremely knowledgeable about different kinds of beer -- ask for their recommendation, and they'll bring you something tailored to your tastes.
Like most places in KC, the food is a bit heavy (and greasy). But, hey, what else can you expect when cheese grits are on the menu? Get the fried city chicken. It's an indulgence, but it's far better than many of the other options -- like a store-bought hummus, or a completely, unarguably average chicken quesadilla. -

I am writing this review primarily because of one amazing experience. Although, all of my other experiences have not been bad.
Saturday night, before dinner at Le Fou Frog, my husband and I stopped in to Harry's for a drink.
It was his birthday. And, randomly (for him) he was interested in a Whiskey flight.
Let me just tell you that the amount of thought, education and discussion the bartenders put into recommending which whiskeys for him to try and why was MEGA impressive. They were informed, very nice, enjoyable and their recommendations were spot-on.
Thanks to them, this pre-dinner stop was part of a birthday my husband will remember. -

Harry's looks like it's out of a movie, as bartenders pour bourbon and Johnny Cash pours from the juke box, you can imagine you're stepping into a scene where something interesting will happen...perhaps a fun night out with friends?
The bartenders are knowledgeable, though the wait staff not always. We were once told a smokestack series beer was a certain price, only to have a significantly higher price appear on the bill, with the waiter playing dumb claiming the manager said nothing could be done. That guy didn't stick around that long though. Another annoying thing that sometimes happens, sometimes not, is charging for ice if my husband orders bourbon neat but ice on the side. They're clearly making a profit off the bourbon, no question. Charging for an ice? What gives?
Drinks, overall, are not the cheapest in town, which is why I remove one star. Also, they aren't open on Sunday, and I always need lunch or dinner on Sunday, another star removed. But for selection of certain liquors, ambiance, a nice patio, terrific jukebox, and proximity to my abode, it can't be beat. -

Simply put, this place has the best beer and liquor selection in town. It may appear to be overwhelming but fortunately you have a staff to help navigate the large selection. It seems that they have tasted everything in their inventory and can help guide you to your perfect selection.
Over the last year I have spent many hours propped up at the bar and never had to wait long for my next recommendation.
They have great seating outdoors and a great happy hour to go with it.
Not a big fan of the food but I don't go to Harry's for a dining adventure.
Step out of your comfort zone and trust in their staff, you will not be disappointed. -

There's so much I love about this place!
The drinks are amazing.
The breakfast ( served all day and night) are sooo good and cheap.
Any place that plays Johnny Cash regularly is a-ok with me.
The decor is great. Love the mid century lamps, kinda wish I could take them home with me.
The staff is always fast and friendly.
The patio is the best on a summer night. -
Review from Joi B.
True confession time: I have a fondness for Ruffles potato chips and French onion dip. Or, at least I used to. Frito Lay used to make a delish French onion dip, the kind in that little tin can. I think it had been about 20 years since the last time I had it and I had been craving it, so I bought some for a party. NOT THE SAME ONION DIP! Either that or my taste buds have changed significantly since I was a young 'un, but I have pretty strong taste memories (or "chewmories" as the K would put it).
Harry's, in their infinite wisdom, has somehow recreated the French onion dip I so enjoyed in my youth. Their homemade potato chips are outstanding as well (I can forgive that they aren't rippled like Ruffles:) Despite my best intentions, I scarfed down half of the huge basket and I think the K and I were about to fight over licking the dip bowl clean (I let him have the honor...JK).
It's patio season and Harry's has gone under a bit of renovation, starting last fall, I believe, with an additional semi outdoor seating area (convenient on rainy nights), a stage for bands and what appears to be interesting industrial looking vessels with trellises (?), which I assume will be planters. Last night the five of us sat outside and took advantage of the perfect Kansas City early summer weather (read: it's not over 90 after the sun goes down). Beer was flowing (wine for Yours, Truly, a decent Cabernet), old country tunes piped outside, courtesy of that amazing juke box, and you can't get a better Saturday evening, in my opinion.
Now, to get that damn onion dip out of my head...Listed in: Mmmmm...Sandwiches Kansas City, Summertime, Cheap Eats, Kansas City, Places that Seem To Tell a…, Boozin' on the Patio

Can't get much better than Harry's. We go here a lot for birthdays. We always go at night. Today however I went to a Yelp event during Happy Hour.
What a great happy hour. The waitress recommended the Elderflower Martini. It was fabulous and dangerous at the same time. I could have drank these all night long they were so yummy. I had to switch to a different drink so I wouldn't get trashed. I had a dark and stormy and it was good too.
I ordered the hummus plate today and had it 1/2 traditional and 1/2 red pepper. It was just as good as all the other items I have eaten here in the past. Hubby's favorite is the BLT.
The atmosphere is laid back and fun. Great neighborhood bar with really great drinks and food.
We sat on the patio and enjoyed the sun and warm weather. We talked and made new friends.
This is a place that needs to added to your go to happy hour.
They also have live bands.Listed in: Best Happy Hour

I literally don't give a shit what anyone says: Harry's Country Club is my favorite bar. Like ever. They cater to my kind of people. I'm a guy who might (and will) order a $2 PBR can on the same tab as a $32 dollar George T. Stag (neat, if you would). I want Schlitz cans and George Jones. If I'm going to cry into my beer, Harry's Country Club is where I'm doing it.
First of all, they make their own french onion dip, and chips. Who ever decided that home made dip and chips was a good idea was right. And I literally cannot have their dip and chips without a beer. It's suggestive marketing at it's finest, and I get it: I'm their demographic.
Secondly, I love their patio. It's somehow always nice out there, although it could be the never ending barrage of whiskey and beer talking.
Thirdly is their selection and service. They literally have everything. I'm the kind of guy who's into some off of the wall shit. Obscure micro brews and odd bottles of whiskey are my wheelhouse, and Harry's knows it. That's why they have hundreds of bottles of whiskey and even more beers for me to choose from. If I get a hankerin' for something off the wall, I just ask the bartender or waitress. I've never been turned down, no matter how odd the request.
Most importantly, they have the decency to put semi-nude retro lady's pictures in the bathroom. If I'm going to into a bathroom in a place that makes me feel inherently more manly, I hate being disappointed with scented soaps and frills. None are found; just lovely pseudo-native-american lovelies, shooting their arrows from their canoe into my heart.
Yep, Harry's. It's the place to go. -

I have always been a fan of Harry's- recently when I attended the yelp event I got to experience the patio... if you are a big fan of patios this is one to check out! Great space, live music, fantastic happy hour, great food, and who doesn't like to meet new people?
Over all great night. I had the pomegranate margarita. So yummy, if you like margaritas this is one I would recommend to anyone, perfect blend of sweet and sour! The happy hour menu is a great mix of different drinks and food for any picky eater out there!Listed in: Best Happy Hour

I'm a bad Yelp-er because I never remember to take pictures of beautiful food. Today I had beautiful food at Harry's. Go figure.
This place has something for everyone. Today I had a most beautiful Greek salad. It had cruchy romaine, grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts, black olives and feta cheese all tossed in a light lemony vinagarette. All around the outside were grilled pita triangles. WHY did I not think to take a picture of this salad? I will try to be better about photos because you need to see this work of art. Besides being beautiful it was very, very tasty!
Let the record show that I am addicted to the damn french fries at Harry's. On my many visits I have tried (and liked) burgers, chicken sandwiches, tuna melt, patty melt, chicken salad sandwich, enchiladas, great appetizers, cocktails and live entertainment occassionally. The Waldorf salad is Way up on the preferred food list, too. See...almost everything I order comes with the damn good fries. You can eat healthy or not so healthy. It's all good.
In addition to the food I have to give this place mucho kudos for their variety and service. I like the atmosphere at this place because it's an 'everyone' kind of place. Today I sat next to a large, very tatt-ed KCMO police officer. I did not cause a rukus.
Get to Harry's and try the special Greek salad or one of your favorite foods prepared the Harry's way. -

Had lunch at Harry's today. The service was great and the place is clean and has good atmosphere, it's a KC institution so it should. I was however disappointed in the food. The menu had a lot of great options so it's not an issue of variety. I feel like things were just meh, and they should have been great.
It was pretty cold in there today, so I ordered the soup of the day, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and a grilled cheese. As I was planing my order in my head I thought "I really need to ask what's in their grilled cheese and if it's nothing exciting go for plan B." I didn't do this. Why didn't I do this?! We were busy talking about work stuff and I placed my order without asking the question. I thought it would be ok. Grilled Cheese is pretty exciting these days and shows up with all kinds of nice touches to it. Not at Harry's. I got plain old grilled cheese with yellow processed cheese food. I'm pretty sure they didn't even spring for the Kraft Singles. And to pile on the disappointment, it was not hot enough to have melted the "cheese" and the (white) bread was barely toasted. The chowder was good, loaded with smokey bacon but a bit light on the clam. It was hot enough to warm up my grilled cheese, so that was nice.
Now I'm not asking Harry's to produce West Side Local or even Beer Kitchen level grilled cheese here -- those guys rock the grilled cheese -- but it would be nice for them to step away from the orange "cheese" and try something a tad more legit. And seriously guys? Toast that bread, thanks.
I'll probably be back to Harry's at some point but unless I hear something to get me in there sooner, it could be a while. -

While there are certainly other restaurants in town that I would pick over Harry's Country Club, this place is still pretty good. I've been to Harry's twice, and each time I had a different quality of experience. My rating for this review is the average between my first 2-star experience and my second 4-star experience, which I think to be perfectly fair.
The first time I visited Harry's, about a year or two ago, I'd give 2 stars simply because the service was slow and the food just wasn't that memorable. Not that anything tasted bad or that the waitstaff were rude, it just wasn't anything that had me thinking "I have to come back here!". I ordered the Cuban sandwich with fries for lunch, which took a while to get even though the restaurant wasn't that busy. The sandwich was hot and flavorful and the fries were crispy and seasoned nicely, but nothing was worthy of coming back for. The waitstaff were nice and attentive, however, as I said before, it took a while for us to get our food even though there weren't very many other patrons among us.
Though I was a little reluctant to return, my mom wanted to give this place another shot, hearing that their dinner menu had a lot of good stuff to offer, so I returned just a few weeks ago and was happy to see that they had redeemed themselves. The restaurant was busier than it had been at lunch, but the service was good, and seemed to be a bit quicker than it had been before. I wasn't particularly hungry, so I ordered a side of cheesy pasta and hummus with pita bread, and both were decent. I've had better, yes, but both tasted better than the sandwich and fries that I'd gotten for lunch on my last visit. My mom ordered one of their tex-mex breakfast skillets, which I wished that I had ordered because it was delicious and by far the best thing that I've ever tasted here.
I think, overall, this place is decent. But, like I said before, if given the choice between other restaurants around town, I'd probably go for them before Harry's, but this place is a good plan B or C if your other first picks are too busy to wait for. -

5 Reasons to Hit Up Harry's for Happy Hour:
1. The prices. You can get quality drinks---including imported/micro beer---for good prices.
2. If you enjoy a cigar and a drink---purchase both inside and take it out to the spacious, although less attractive, patio.
3. No popped collars, botox, silicone boobies, or natural light
4. Food options, though not memorable, seem like the only logical pairing to the drinks
5. Babycakes is next door. Nothing takes off the remaining edge like a strawberry cupcake w strawberry icing.Comment from Mary M. of Harry's Country Club 1/8/2011

Finally getting around to reviewing Harry's after living in the River Market for five years, there is no question that this is my favorite spot in the RM and of my favorites in the city as well.
Great drinks, with an extensive spirits menu, especially whiskey, scotch and Rum. The food is well above average for bar food and good service. Along with a real laid back atmosphere make this a must stop location when in downtown. -

The Belhaven Scottish ale is awesome. Talk to Travis the bartender about his spicy autumn cocktail, too. Let's make this dude famous.

Finally stopped by Harry's for lunch last Saturday, after years of meaning to go there and a few friends' recommendations. Loved the play on "country club" in the country-themed decor that pays tribute to country music legends. The low-key kitsch brought a smile to my face. The dining room is pretty roomy too, with nice high ceilings.
Food was good barroom fare, thoughtfully selected, with high quality ingredients. I got the hot ham and Swiss on rye, which was as hot as described and very tasty. Gotta love the combination of sweet honey ham and nutty Swiss cheese. SO got the French dip with mushrooms and Swiss, which he said was one of the best he'd ever had. Both came with shoestring fries that were hot and golden. Because I got up late and ended up forgoing breakfast, I order some coffee with my meal and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Tasted freshly ground to me and was served with cream. Unlike other reviewers, our experience with the service was solid. Everything arrived on time and waiter was ready with a warm-up when my coffee had run out.
Overall, I found it a classy, yet casual, joint with an impressive drink selection and good service. I'm not a beer drinker, but the beer menu was quite broad and quite long. The selection of liquor behind the bar is impressive. Not much in the way of wines, but some interesting mixed drinks. Next time I visit, I'll be stopping by in the evening for drinks, or taking advantage of the happy hour specials. -

Love the happy hour specials. They are dirt cheap and we've enjoyed all the food we've tried here. The staff is pretty friendly and take care of us.
I'm looking forward to coming back, as I can just stumble my way home as it's so close.
They have a beer garden, which I haven't had an opportunity to try. Unfortunately, it isn't doggie friendly even though it's outside :( -

We went to Harry's Country Club for a late lunch and I am now a fan. Their homemade chips and french onion dip are fantastic! I ordered half a turkey sandwich and half a spinach salad for just under 8 bucks. The sandwich was exactly what you'd expect, nothing to sing about. The spinach salad was yummy! The salad dressing and candied walnuts MAKE it.
My oldest (11 yrs old) devoured their Tres Tacos. He, like usual, went with chicken instead of beef and they looked gorgeous. He didn't even put the salsa on them. When I asked, "Were they dry?" He replied,"No they were greeeaasy." with a YUM in his voice and look in his eye that only a really good chicken taco can provide. I will say that I saw no pool of grease on the plate for those of you repulsed by the comment.
My daughter split the chicken fried steak dinner with a cousin. Splitting was no problem at all and they even served the meal already split on two different plates. So many restaurants I have been to balk at this notion of splitting, I was pleasantly surprised. Also surprising was the enormous size of each girls' portion. Neither could finish it!
Our table also ordered two flat bread pizzas. For 10.95 you get a platter sized, crispy, super thin crust pizza with 3 toppings of your choice. They have LOTS of toppings to choose from. Our vegan friend ordered 3 veggie, no cheese and when it arrived WITH cheese our waitress quickly and happily took it back and corrected the error.
The atmosphere is great here too. The pictures of Patsy Cline and Hank WIlliams (Sr) gazed down at us as good ol' country music set the mood of our lunch.
I could see popping in for some hot wings and a beer after shopping at the Market for fruit and veg. Now that would be a reward!
P.S. Sorry no pics...we annihilated our lunch before I even thought about snapping a few. -

Bad Customer Service and Rude Managers
The drinks are great, the food is ok and the servers are friendly, but when our group had a problem with an error on the bill things turned ugly.
We were charged full-price for a happy hour item that should have been half-price and just needed a simple apology and correction; we received neither. The shift manager stonewalled us and we ended up leaving very upset.
A letter of complaint was written and received by the general manager who promptly contacted us with what we hoped would be a quick resolution. Instead, we heard the same line as the lower manager that there was no error and they were not going to do anything for us. It took some reasoning on our part before a refund was offered, but there was no apology or warm invitation back.
I don't understand how a business, in the struggling River Market area, can afford to upset loyal customers and not care. We won't be going back unless there are some major management changes. -

Classy joint. Sums it up.
Harry Murphy is a pro. He's developed a place that reflects his joys of things coutry and western classic, and his hospitality experience which is vast in KC.
This is decidedly non-high falutin, by significant design. It's a place to gather with friends, drink well, gnosh, and always leave satsfied.
Locals and newbs, this is always a good call. Just take off your attitudes before the door. -

I used to be a hard core regular here. For years my bowling league would come here on Tuesday nights and take over the patio. They'd even hold the kitchen open late for us, which was awesome. But a couple of years ago that trend kind of fell apart, and I stopped coming here as often.
Last night I visited Harry's again for the first time in at least a year -- in fact for the first time since before they rebuilt the patio. And I was reminded of why this is one of the best bars in Kansas City, yet also reminded why I haven't been a regular anymore.
The atmosphere, decor, music, and the beer selection is great. I'm a fan of the extended happy hour duration, and I love the new menu. Especially the new happy hour appetizers that are better priced than most of the appetizers. And the patio remains my favorite outdoor place to drink, with its stunning view of the downtown skyline.
But there are two problems that still keep me from coming here often. One is simply because of Harry's success -- it's almost always packed and inside it gets very loud. The second reason is the price. The prices have incrementally gone up over the years to the point that I just can't afford to hang out here 1-2 nights a week like I used to. Last night I had an appeitizer and two beers during happy hour and my tab was still over $20. I could go to John's Deck or Caddyshack and spend almost half as much for pretty much the same things. Yes, I know I'm paying extra for the atmosphere, but I just can't afford to do that often. :(Listed in: Where the real people go to…

"Excuse me, are you a pin-up artist?"
It's not every day I'll be sitting around having a beer and someone walks up to me and asks that. But here, at Harry's, having a lively conversation and cocktails accompanied by The Dame and The Dynamic Eye, that's precisely what happened. Turned out I'd been talking to the guy about a commission online, and he just happened to recognize me.
Much like I'd recognized the slew of Country Music legends adorning the walls (and the jukebox) of Harry's; the gimmick that keeps on giving.
And it's a great gimmick, actually; the interior decor of Harry's is well known in these parts, and an experience to share with folks from out-of-town and locals alike. Whomever is responsible for this place deserves a pat on the back, because they done right, creating a rich and historic aesthetic that feels like Kansas City should: proud of the past, and proud of the things that make it distinctly midwest...without being mired in "yee-haw".
A wide selection of beers make it a destination for the drinkin' kind, and the lonesome hearts crooning from the jukebox will help you supply your own tears. It's pretty packed on the weekends, though, so there's a lively mood to the place, and always cosmopolitan. They even have a humidor to supply the cigars for the Country Gentleman in all of us.
So, whether you're there to enjoy the summer patio, the vintage ambiance, or to just be recognized as some guy who does saucy drawings of scantily-clad ladies, Harry's is a great place to sit back with a tall Schlitz, a sandwich, and people-watch to the strains of an old Porter and Dolly number wafting out of the jukebox... -

For now I will give you.....2 stars, for happy hour. I haven't eaten dinner here, YET! We went for happy hour last night. Good prices, decent food.
We had the tacos, beef jerky, & hummus. The hummus is always solid. I love the sriacha they put on top of it to make it spicy! yum! The tacos we pretty bland. The homemade beef jerky def needs some more seasoning on it. But I love beef jerky so I love the concept of homemade beef jerky. The bartenders are always super nice. Maybe if i tried dinner I would give it another star or 2! Who's knows. I'd go back for happy hour drinks and maybe try some different food. But I will def try out dinner. I don't want to cheat them out of stars in the long because I haven't the full experience! -

I know many of you with a more refined cocktail palette will shudder as I give a shout-out to some of my favorite Harry's CC concoctions. No summer evening is complete without an icy Bomb-Pop Martini (and yes, it tastes like a bomb pop! And it's blue and red! Magic!) If you realllly like the sweet stuff, the Jolly Rancher is divine. And during the colder months, the winter warmer (a sumptuous mix of rum and spiced chai) is soothing and aromatic and downright delicious.
The fantastic cocktails, insane beer selection, classic country jukebox, patio and skinny fries (think Steak 'n Shake) are just some of the reasons that Harry's is among my top three favorite bars in KC. Having lived in the River Market for nearly a year, it's great to have such a laid-back, awesome bar within walking distance (especially if I indulge in too many of the aforementioned Bomb Pop Martinis ... it's been known to happen).
My fiance and I talk so enthusiastically about Harry's CC, in fact, that when my stepmom visited from Columbia a couple weeks ago, one of the first things she said was, "I have to go to Harry's! You talk about this place all the time!" Indeed. Regulars, non-regulars, locals, out-of-towners---everyone has a place at this country club. And the best part? No collared shirt and khakis required!
