Thumbs up:
Monday night burger/drink special.
Fun place to watch a game
Thumbs down:
Extremely slow service
Way too loud (to Harry's defense, it is a bar, but I hate screaming through dinner on a Monday night)
I've finally figured it out.
It only took me a couple of visits to realize that this is my fave bar in Pac Heights.
Harry's doesn't EVER have a cover, even on Friday and Saturday nights when they have a DJ spinning a mix of Top 40's, 80's, house, etc.
Parking is so easy to find, there's usually a couple of spots open right in front of the bar or a block away. Taxis pass by here all the time.
Their drinks are on the pricey side between $8-$10 for cocktails. You get a better deal on weekdays with their $5 cocktail specials. (usually the lychee-pineapple martinis or a cosmo). The bartenders are quick on their feet. It's poppin here on Saturday nights but on Fridays, you can actually snag a seat and have room to move around.
Harry's is not the type of bar you'd go to pick up girls. (believe me, our friend tried his hardest!) The chill vibe with its wooden bar and old charm makes this a tried and true gathering spot for friends who you've known for a long time. Whether it's for a birthday happy hour or boy issues my girls and I need to bitch about, Harry's will continue to be my go to watering hole.

I liked Harry's before I moved to the neighborhood, and now I like it even more, since it's less than 2 blocks from my apartment.
Harry's is like The Matrix or Balboa Cafe, but on the other side of Fillmore, landing it in lower Pac Heights.
There is always a "scene" at Harry's, and the drinks, burgers, etc, speak for themselves. Last night, I was super digging the $5 Skyy Vodka specials, especially the pineapple daiquiri, and the parmesean-truffle oil fries were so tasty, and so salty.
The major downsides to Harry's is the narrow-bar/difficulty getting seating, and also only ONE toilet in the women's room.
So first off Harry's isn't typically my type of bar, but i go there at least once every time i visit San Francisco. Why you may ask? because the bartender with all the tattoo makes amazing drinks, they play sweet movies on the t.v. like the labyrinth, and their fries are good :-) I'm a simple guy.
I love that Harry's has plenty of seating. Great drinks and friendly staff.
i came here with a group of 18 on saturday and had a great time. Since there was such a huge group Harrys was perfect cause they took reservations and we got sat right away. i never would have thought of Harrys as a brunch spot but they actually have quite the spread :)
Pros: $10 bottomless belinis that kept refilling, yummy food, the ability to get us all together so well for brunch, and we were able to be loud!!
Cons: our food came out maybe 45 mins after we ordered and not all at once (their kitchen im sure was not prepared for such a large order at 1 time, totally understandable)

A friend of mine once told me that this place is sort of like Balboa but better... I have to disagree. It's not a bad place, but definitely there are better choices in the city. Its a convenient spot for one of my friends, since he lives somewhat clost to it.
Overall it's barfood... the drinks...nothing spectacular...the times i have gone here its after bar-hopping to other places; so I've never really stayed here too long. Yesterday we had lunch here... totally different vibe during the day. The Tomato Mozarella salad was good... but not sure anyone can really go wrong with slices of tomato, basil, and chunks of fresh mozarella?
not a fan of hot sweaty crowded bars
layout is cool prices were a little high but not overwhelming
be a cool place when not so crowded
total frat boy attitudes there
On July 30th, 2009, my girlfriend and I decided to share some drinks. Overall, I don't think that I'll ever go back. We decided to skip the food, as most of the menu options was akin to greasy pub-food and a bit overpriced in my opinion.
The atmosphere isn't anything really special. It is loud and I must admit that the clientele is college/immediately post college crowd. There is nothing really sophisticated about this bar..and it isn't exactly divey and it isn't necessarily a sports bar...SO CONFUSING...It is what it is and admittedly, it isn't my type of place.
What really disappointed me was the service. We went right after work and pre-cinema to grab a QUICK drink and the place was not full and there seemed to be a few waitresses standing around, but it took us 20 minutes to get served.
No thanks. Not again.
Eh.
Came to Harry's last night for a coworkers going away party. Apparently it's the only bar within walking distance of this part of town, so I guess one can't be too picky, right?
Harry's is a sports bar from yesteryear. It's old school with an interesting mix of people eating and drinking. On on end of the room, there was a table full of old dudes swapping stories about their glory days, and on the other end of the bar, youngsters were doing shots and spilling drinks on people. Definitely a generational clash, but it takes all kinds to make a bar tick.
One of my default drinks is always a greyhound. You know when you're just approaching a bar, and you get caught off guard by the bartender when you're not quite ready to order? Those are the situations where I just blurt out 'whiskey/soda,' or 'greyhound.' In this instance, I'm beyond stoked that I went for the 'hound, because they use a juicer to squeeze fresh grapefruit juice into the drink. It was, hands down, the best greyhound I've ever had in my life. I'd go back just for that alone!
I sure hope I don't come across as sexist or something, but I've never understood why bar owners choose to put under-skilled, female bartenders with giant boobs wearing next to nothing behind the bar, instead of stocking the place with people who can actually sling a drink. It happens all the time at flashy clubs and sports bars. I mean, I 'get' why it happens... but it just seems counterproductive to me. I'd rather get a great drink from a quality bartender than a mediocre cocktail while perving out on some half-dressed college girl any day.
Would love to come back to scope out a football game someday. Looks like it could be a cool spot to enjoy sports on a Sunday, but that's yet to be seen.
Another meal, another five stars. This time for brunch, with the same dining companion as that five star burger experience a little over a year ago. The no questions asked service with a smile customization continued, as I got the Harry's Breakfast with egg whites (no charge), chicken apple sausage (an option), toast dry (delivered as promised) and salad instead of fried potatoes (apparently an option I missed, I was enamored they said yes regardless). All for $8 while sitting outside on a warm(ish) August day enjoy the beauty that is San Francisco. It was fantastic.
And looking at the menu one more time, apparently there is a third trip in the future. Gotta try that house veggie burger. Cannot wait.

This is a 5/1 review. Five stars for Harry's, one for me. Let's start with Harry's:
So much to love.… Read more »
Strolled over to Harry's Sunday night to catch the World Series. The large screen TV's were visible throughout the space. This cheered up my friend, a Phillies fan from Philadelphia. Our sight-line was unimpeded.
We ordered calamari and spinach dip to munch. Both were big disappointments. The calamari had a cardboard tasting batter, were overcooked, the aoli dipping sauce was bland, maybe came straight from a mayo jar. The spinach dip. well, tasteless is the nicest thing I can say.
But, the burgers! The burgers were great. Flavorful meat with just the right texture and dripping juice. I ordered mine a bit rarer than medium rare. The kitchen made it just right, a rarity in SF where I've had my request refused or ignored and ended up with medium. The buttermilk bleu cheese had a good kick and loved those pickled onions. Skinny, crisp fries were good and would have been great if not lukewarm.
A couple of people at the next tabled order salads, Cobb and steak. They looked soooo good. I may have try one next time.
When I get a burger carving, I head to Harry's. The Flat Tire beer on tap lures me back, too.
avoid this place if you can.
we waiting literally for 1 hour to sit down for their "bottomless bellini" just to learn that they had skipped over us and let 4 people go ahead.
we were finally seated and had to wait another 15/20 minutes just to get our order taken in.
the food was horrible. it was obvious that they were cooking the waffles on the same grill as the onions/peppers... you could taste it in the waffles. disgusting.
there are a TON of better options for places to eat or watch the game. skip this place and do yourself a favor.
The fact that they serve food here is completely irrelevant.
Drinks: good, strong and cheap.
Music: possibly a ghetto-ish dj, but plenty of fun either way. many a pants off dance off to be had!
Company: always classy.
I may be drunk as a skunk every time I come here, but it only makes me love it more!
I like this place.
Decent drinks.
Seating.
90s music.
TVs.
No weirdos.
Entertainment: male/female cougars on the prowl
Good times.
Wow, I'm getting old....the things that excite me.
Food is great, service isn't.
Waitress wasn't friendly and took forever to take our orders, bring (1) drink over, bring the food, check on us, and bring the bill. She didn't even pretend to care.
I came here for drinks with friends on a Thursday night and had a good time. Aside from the limited seating area for bar patrons, it was a clean venue with a pleasant crowd. The deejay was playing radio hits and the bartenders were efficient (I likes). The drinks were strong and decently priced. We ordered truffle fries and sweet potato fries - both were delicious. And, parking in the Fillmore on weeknights is easy! Great place for drinks, snacks, and hanging out. Try the fruit martinis!
If you're looking for pub fare and reasonably priced drinks along with a good crowd, this place is probably for you! I'm not sure it's a place you'd want to travel to but if you live nearby or happen to be in the 'hood, definitely consider it as a reasonable choice!
I used to like Harry's. But now, whenever I step in the door I'm already planning my escape route. Lucky for them, it seems as though it's consistently packed Wed thru Sat nights. But it's not a fun packed. It's a "I'm gonna need to hire a 350 lbs pulling guard to get to the bar or bathroom" kind of packed a lot of nights... And if you do get a table, don't get your hopes up about the service - the girls may be hot, but the attentiveness is lacking.
I'm sure that it still does the trick for some - good place to trap a coug, no doubt.
Not usually a fan hanging at Pac Heights/Marina bars...but I liked my food and drink order so will proceed to give Harry's 3*'s.
I ordered:
--Their Mango Mojito ($8.5) is delicious. Sweet and refreshing with big chunks of fresh mango.
--Kobe Slides ($11.95 - 3 per order) was very juicy with yummy aioli sauce. 3 definitely fills you up.
--My boyfriend ordered some kind of chicken sandwich...I didn't taste it, but the chicken slices were pretty darn pathetic. Dry and very thin looking...so steer clear of that.
Food aside, its not my kind of place as it tends to draw the a certain crowd. During dinner, a group of drunk preppy idiots stumbled in as Harry's was part of their golf pub crawl...so i think you know the type.
Harry's Bar has a great old school atmosphere, good selection of drinks and delicious food! I love their veggie burgers-the best I've ever had at a restuarant-and sweet potato fries!! Mondays they have a burger and beer special :)
This is an awesome place to come chill with a small group of friends. The place is relatively small so if you have a large group it might take a long time to get a table large enough for everyone.
Still don't really like it here, but I'll give them some credit for excellent service the last time I was here.

Okay, okay . . . first off I will admit that one of the reasons I like to come here is to check out dudes. For some reason hot guys and their friends seem to gravitate to this Pac Heights spot in throngs. It is a comfortable place to meet a date, but if you bring your girls you can ogle all you want.
The Hendricks Cucumber Gimlet was damn good. This is coming from a girl who doesn't drink gin, but what can I say? I guess I felt like getting a little crazy. The pheromones in the room must have been getting to me.
If you are hungry, or even if you aren't, try the Kobe Beef Sliders! So good.
brunch review:
server was slow but pretty. food took 45 minutes and was portioned for toddlers. tvs were tuned to nascar instead of college football.
harry's breakfast may look good on paper, 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes and toast for 8 bucks, but as i said, the provided amount could satisfy an 6 pound child.
go to crepevine up the street.
Solid, straightforward bar, with old-fashioned wood-and-mirror decor and new-fashioned flatscreen TVs for all your sports-watching pleasure. Wasn't my first choice in the neighborhood, but we were thirsty and the place that we wanted to drink was closed (as in, now a different business).
Happy hour is half-price (i.e. $3) draft pints, currently including Widmer's, Sierra Nevada, and Stella Artois. Pretty good deal, and that Widmer's is nice and refreshing on a warm day.
The crowd seemed fine to me, at least on a Friday late afternoon. There was a good mix of types, and my friend and I chatted with a nice older couple who had just moved here from DC and had spent some time in Chicago, where we are both from.
As a bonus, the female bar and wait staff are across-the-board hot.
Came here for happy hour and dinner. Not a lot of seating area and service was pretty slow. There was only 2 waitress serving the entire seated section. The burger I got actually came out better than I expected, though still overpriced at $12... $3 draft beers is alright. But 50 cents to refill diet coke? Yikes...
How do I keep ending up in this bar? It seems that whenever I'm at the Fillmore after a show and am too drunk to think of ANY OTHER BAR IN THE CITY, I go to Harry's. It's always the wrong choice. The people there are snooty and the bartenders even snootier. Drinks are too expensive. No one seems to be genuinely interested in whom they're talking to.
And I spilled a drink directly on my crotch. I had to walk around the rest of the night looking like I need Detrol.

This place sucks. Eric S. and I went in here for one drink and then bolted.
TOO MANY WHITE PEOPLE.
I've had the French Fries - Good
Bloody Mary's - Good (The celery was snappy fresh)
Service - Good
Nice outdoor seating but can be annoying when people smoke outside.
YUM. Good mac and cheese. I have to say, it was one of the better that I've had - and a nice, healthy portion at that! The kobe slider was pretty good too. A juicy piece of beef with caramelized onions on a tiny toasted bun that isn't dry? Sure beats a mini sirloin burger from a cracked out clown.
As far as the drinks go, they were OK for specialty cocktails - good for $5 during happy hour. The pineapple lychee martini was tasty and the wildberry cosmo was alright. The first round we had was actually quite delicious but the second was downright disgusting. I don't know if they switched up bartenders or what but we could have set ourselves on fire with the amount of cheap liquor that was in that drink.
I've been to Harry's too many times to count as alas, it was the only bar within a block of my old apartment. OK for Sunday football watchin', but the night time scene is.... well I'll get to that. The prices on the drinks are a bit high, but it is Pac Heights so I guess that's to be expected.
In my opinion the bartenders are very nice, there have been one or two that were boring but never mean or bitchy. They're all females, I hear rumor that there was a guy bartender once in a time long long ago, but I've never seen anything but ladies.
The portion of this bar that makes me shudder is the crowd. I don't need to get too detailed, it's summed up here already. If you're the guy type to try to get noticed by frantically strutting your stuff in that newly purchased $250 collared/striped shirt then by all means, enjoy. And don't you fret, there are plenty of over-dressed, over make-uped women who have been drinking fruity cocktails all day that will be more than happy to have you drape yourself on them. Same goes for the "aging frat boy" comments, I couldn't say it better myself.
Anyway, if you are stuck in the neighborhood and need some booze then by all means, Harry's has booze. During the early times on Sunday for sports it's fine, just expect the sports crowd. But on a Saturday night? If only I knew how to scare away half the people I'm sure it would be much better.
Loved the inside n outside seating- did not like the hot wings , overfried, dry n not enough sauce, so I wouldnot get them again. But still 4 stars due to very tasty sliders, garlic fries n blue moon! I'd go back there again for the atmosphere (cute, bar-ish, nice crowd) n sliders;)! Yum!!
Harry's is pretty nice. When it's slow...
meh...
I live in the neighborhood and avoid this place most of the time. The reason is that this place is usually overfilled with tools and just not very inviting.
The service is pretty bad.
Drinks are ok...not much else to say.
Great place for a douche bag gathering.

My new local bar! Harry's is one of the reasons I love this neighborhood. I first discovered it a few years ago when I went for drinks before a concert at the Fillmore. I have been back many times since, and love the atmosphere, food, and drinks. The tables outside are great when it's warm out, and although it can get crowded inside, it's not usually too hard to get a table.
I'm a fan of any establishment that has fresh squeezed greyhounds. Their bloody marys and infused vodka drinks are good too. The sliders are delish, and the truffle fries are definitely worth trying, even if they can be a little intense after a few bites.
Harry's is a good place to watch a game, go for happy hour, or late night food (until 1am). The music is a fun/silly/quirky mix - which often includes songs you love but are embarrassed to admit it. However, sometimes it can be a little loud when they turn the music up and lower the lights for their night atmosphere.
Also, I love that there are Barbie, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Gone With the Wind posters in the ladies room. Cliche, but fitting.
I'll be back soon!
The 2 hour wait for a table at Dosa on Fillmore was the only reason my date and I stepped foot into Harry's. It seemed crowded and noisy from the sidewalk but we both really wanted a cocktail after a long week. Upon entering, I wondered if this location was modeled after the original Harry's in Venice (Italy) given the decor and the overall theme, but then I saw a DJ setting up his turntables. Probably not the same Harry's. She and I both noticed the inconspicuous special drink menu that was plastered on the mirror behind the bar. There were some interesting choices that gave this place some potential until...
1. Pineapple lychee martini - meh. Their martini glasses are small to begin with. It's served with a garnish of a single lychee and a HUGE chunk of pineapple offsetting the volume of the liquid for a total of 3 mediocre tasting sips.
2. Mango mojito - Waaaay too sweet. A glass full of simple syrup would have been better.
3. Hendricks cucumber gimlet - tasty. This would be a perfect summer drink with a great balance of tart and cucumber mixed with my favorite gin. I think it would be better served in a highball glass on the rocks but what do I know?
The atmosphere wasn't bad for a sports bar on a Friday night - pretty good looking 20-30 something crowd with some random older bar flies and dare I say, cougars scattered throughout. An older Caucasian gentleman sitting next to us at the bar struck up conversation by asking me about my ethnicity:
Older man: "Are you Chinese?"
Me: "No, I'm Korean".
Older man: "Well I grew up in Chinatown"
Me: "???"
Older man: "All my friends are Chinese"
Me: "That's great - is anyone sitting in this stool?"
Older man: "People used to be very racist back in the day"
Me: "I bet. I remember getting teased when I was in grade school."
Older man: "I once told an Irish man to go f**k himself for calling my best friend a chink..."
Me (smiling): "That was, uh, nice of you"
Older man: "You're welcome."
My date: "Can we go back to Dosa now?"
Me: "Absolutely, without a doubt, yes."
*sigh* Aside from the awkward conversation, it wasn't too bad...1 star docked for expensive drinks served in miniature glassware. The kobe burger and fries with truffle oil sounds compelling enough for me to return to give the food a try sometime.
Dude - such a fun Saturday night. The Saturday night DJ Pablo is ridiculously good. Every song he played was awesome - everything from 90's hip hop to current besties (QTip, JT, Michael Jackson, Big Pun, Craig Mack, Madonna...) He had the whole bar on their feet dancing by the end of the night. We even got his card hoping to pass him along to the next friend getting married.
Drinks were just fine (I had a pomegranate martini, my husband had a manhattan) and our cocktail waitress was super cute and nice.
I've definitely been there when it's been terribly crowded, hot and a lame crowd. But I'm going back next Saturday if Pablo's there - he's that good.
Among the things life has taught me: when things go well, you better celebrate. Because things won't always be great, even if they are mostly pretty damn good. And since life will kick sand in your face many times, you need to make some time to enjoy the times things go really well.
For a friend of mine, things went really well last week. And so, to celebrate, we went to a bar in his neck of the woods. Harry's. And had a great time. Reviewing the bill at the end of the night (and I -DO- mean "end") was a bit like reviewing a lifetime of bad decisions ("3 rounds of Patron shots? Yeah, I guess we did do that." "Hey, who ordered the Jameson shots?" "I did, because they were out of SoCo."), and the ultimate financial price was a little high (depending, I guess, on how you cut it: a hondo a head, or $80/hour for the time we spent there).
BUT:
-the food was good;
-the service was pretty darn good;
-the drinks were strong;
-we all had a great time; and
-we helped a friend celebrate good times (c'mon!).
This place is way out of my ordinary travels around the City, so I'm not likely to be a frequent patron (did you catch the sounds of dozens of women all simultaneously taking notes?), but I would definitely go back.
To be honest, I'm really disappointed.
I always enjoyed coming here to grab a beer and a good ol' Route 66 burger with the fellas, but I went last night and realized they overhauled their menu and got rid of most of their burger selection.
I ended up having the Harry's Classic burger and it was smaller than a Big Mac! C'mon!
Harry's has always been a great place to grab a mid week burger and brew (never a good weekend spot) but now I might have to find another mid week oasis...

Dear Harry's Bar:
Just because you paint the names of your cliche "specialty" drinks on a large mirror behind the bar doesn't mean you can charge more than $10 for them. The dichotomy if the classiness of the facility and the lack thereof of the clientele is amusing. It's like you were uprooted from another, more annoying part of town and dropped onto Fillmore. And your staff is mean. I was astounded to see that the chain of lame buttrock songs was emanating from a live DJ, not a mix CD.
Goodbye, and see you NEVER.
Eric S.
Definitely a fun bar... but nothing else. The food is preeettty poor -(I have recently been disappointed with the food on Filmore street in general).
Anyway, a good spot for March Madness right now, lively crowd.
