I was passing through the area and yelp'd this place. What a great find! The best thin sliced, pale pink centered, bite-through roast beef I have ever had in a long, long time. Had it with sauce, mustard and horseradish, and it was a finger-lickin' mess! Don't forget the Italian Wedding soup either, surprisingly good.

Have been a fan of Harrison's since I attended college at Merrimack.
Their menu is basic and straight forward but you will not find a better roast beef (or sauce) in the area.
Love the fact that they now accept debit/credit cards, makes my life so much easier. And their are open late which is great when you a craving a late night meal.
I think they really need to work on the interior/staff that work in the restaurant. Defiantly brings the place down a notch. But don't let the looks scare you off, the food is amazing. -

I dont care how bad the service is. Place is bomb.
You need to learn how to speak 'Harrisons' at the counter to a guy who is always pissed off to take your order. One dude has tat's all over his face and you cant hardly make eye contact! But its just an other awkward experience at Harrisons, Hilarious. -

"Beef Mayo! Med! Fry!"
Someone needs to write an ethnography of the North Shore/Merrimack Valley roast beef sandwich culture, and when they do, this place will be at the epicenter of that work. Not only does the food inspire orgasmic, eye-rolling accolades from many people, but the fierce loyalty Harrison's inspires, despite it's awfully dingy atmosphere, suggests something truly special. And of course, we can't forget the distinctive ordering system, in which the guy at the counter yells out a staccato shorthand for your order: "Med! Junior! Mayo! Fry!". I grew up eating these sandwiches and despite my attempts to eat healthier, more veg, etc., I can't help getting a medium with mayo every once in while. Too good. -

I CANNOT stop thinking about Harrison's roast beef sandwiches. Order it with everything. It's the only way to go! Loved the onion rings, fries and pickles too. What a treat!
Harrison's, why aren't you in Los Angeles? -

Having grown up in Niagara Falls, NY, I had plenty of roast beef on weck in my lifetime. Harrison's is *almost* as good as Buffalo-area roast beef sandwiches. My husband, who grew up in North Andover, would beg to differ, and it will remain a point of contention between us. :)
The good thing about Harrison's sandwiches is that you get a metric crap-ton of roast beef in your sandwich. You also get a crap-ton of sauce to go, if you want it. Hence, you'll need a crap-ton of napkins, so grab some before you leave.
The sandwiches I've eaten from here are decked out with onion and cheese. The soft rolls can't compare to kimmelweck rolls in Buffalo, though. Damn, I just made myself homesick...
Still, it's worth stopping by if you're in the area and hankering for mounds of meat. -

The world fades away when it's just me and my succulent and generously packed roast beef, heavy and overflowing on the tangy BBQ sauce, with a memorable kick of horseradish and onion.
I had a 6 oz. medium, following by a 4 oz. junior for a total of under $10. Try getting a 10 oz. steak for that price or even making your own at home. It's impossible. I was in a daze of euphoria, loving this country and thanking God for the incredible fortune of finding this place. Unparalleled. Eye-ball rolling ecstasy. I'll never leave Massachusetts now. Ever. -

I am not a big meat eater, but whenever I get a craving, this is always my first choice.
I'll take a large roast beef, cheese, extra sauce, & onions. (And perhaps some onion rings and pizza rolls on the side, too.)
The roast beef melts on your tongue. So good.
I prefer to get mine to go as it can be crowded at times. But there is lots of seating available for those that can't wait to get home to get a taste. -

Cash only and locals only! Just kidding...well, sort of. No one's going to make you uncomfortable for being from out of town; it's more like if you aren't from the Andovers, then what the hell are you doing there??
MMM....a huge, warm pile of paper-thin, fatless, red roast beef shavings shoved into a dense onion-bun that sticks to your palate and gets into your teeth...get EVERYthing on it, including fresh onions, mayo, and especially horseradish sauce.
For all you health conscious wimps; go large or go home! Who the hell would order a small here?? [Hint: the larger the sandwich, the larger the meat-to-bread ratio.]
Macaroni salad, crinkle-cut fries, and onion rings are also absurdly comforting, though not a must. Last time I was there, they even had their own sodas. Has anyone tried those? -

Harrison's is a landmark in North Andover and surrounding towns.
People from all around come to this local spot for glorious roast beef sandwiches, delicious pizza rolls, and to witness the very original language being used by the staff.
Growing up, it was always an exciting treat to get Harrison's. I used to be a 'beef mustard' kid which is a medium sized roast beef sandwich with mustard. But as I've grown, I'm now a 'large mustard' which is a large roast beef sandwhich on a bulky onion roll with mustard. I've always been a 'med' though and that hasn't changed. 'Med' meaning medium fries. Ya follow?
People usually have their favorites and stick to them. You've got roast beef people, pizza roll people, and chicken tender people. Once in a while you might find a roast beef person ordering a pizza roll on the side for a treat.
Don't bother trying to eat here when the high school football game has ended or it's a half-day for the public schools--like I said, this is a local favorite so be prepared to wait in line!
The place itself is straight out of the 70s. A rundown little ranch building that they just 'renovated' and by that I mean painted the graffiti and tables. But you know what? We love it. That's Harrison's so get over it.Listed in: Suburbans and Soccer Balls

Nothing beats a beef, cheese, and radish sandwich from this place. A pizza roll is always a good companion. Without a doubt, one of the best roast beef joints in New England! I just wish they would stay open later!

Everyone should have Harrison's at least once in their life.
And I can pretty much guarantee that once you've been you'll keep going back for more! It doesn't even matter if you don't like roast beef! They have pizza rolls, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings, chicken sandwiches, etc. Trust me you'll find something that will make you happy!
But the roast beef is the best.
Thinly sliced and dripping with their incredible sauce and extra cheese. The sandwich literally brings tears of joy to my eyes. It will have you licking the wrapper when you're done and running back to the counter to order another.
Having gone to high school in NA I was here twice a week and now that I'm living in the city I miss it dearly.
Try to avoid it on a Friday night during HS football season.
It's definitely the place to be after a game and gets packed. -

I have been a devotee of Harrison's since I was a kid.
My parents first took me to Riley's Roast Beef/ S Lawrence which is what it was Harrison's was before moving to North Andover. We went there once a week, we did not even go to church weekly but went to Riley's for Roast Beef sandwiches. We for years went to Harrisons- not anymore.
All I can say is what happened.... the last time I was there the roll was stale... I gave it another shot and forget it. The place is filthy.
Pizza Factory in North Andover-their roast beef sandwiches are now better than Harrison's. Such a disappointment. The filthiness of the place the last time turned me off from this place for good.
All I can say is" what the hell happened to Harrison's"? -

North Andover, MA
I grew up on Harrison's -- dreamed about it when I was away from home, made it my first stop on the drive back to town from school, and my last stop on the way out. My high school sweetheart even worked there one summer.
The roast beef is out of this world. It's the perfect combination of slightly warm, thinly-sliced roast beef on a lightly toasted bun, and barbecue sauce. The best condiment, without a doubt, is the sauce. And if you don't like it sloppy, you can order "light sauce." Since I don't like the onion rolls used for large sandwiches, I usually opt for two mediums instead.
And here's a little-known fact: if you're interested, you can buy that special sauce to take home for a small price.
Harrison's can be a little, well, grubby. And the line can be long. But the roast beef is really, really good.Listed in: Best of the 'Burbs (North)

This is the BEST roast beef sandwich I have ever had! When I worked at PAN Communications in Andover, I would come here 2-3 times a week. Now that I am thinking about it, I am honestly thinking about taking a drive up there this weekend. It would be well worth the trip!
Just walk up to the counter and say: "Beef, Cheese, Sauce"
That will get you the best sandwich ever! -

Being from the North Shore area and growing up on Bill & Bobs and Big Fred's Roast Beef, this place is outstanding. I was not aware that it even existed until today.
Although the place is not much to look at inside, the roast beef was out of this world! Not too rare not too well done either. It's sliced right there while you wait! The sauce was great. Not too spicy, cause I hate spices! The fries were also very good. Drinks are majorly cheap. .99 for a small soda and I think like $1.50 for a large that is comparable to a "Big Gulp" sized portion.
Definitely get to this place if you are ever in the North Andover area! Beats Kelly's hands down! -

I have had an opportunity to have an orgasmic lunch in North Andover. No fellow yelpers it was not an afternoon delite so to speak. Darn so boring...but now I digress.
What it was, was a killer lunch place that I found out about from Jeffrey H. Thanks for the tip Jeffrey!! I can't believe I've been working in this town for over 2 years and just found out about this place. Clearly, I need to get out for lunch.......but then I wouldn't be able to Yelp. Sniff Sniff!
It's a pretty simple menu which you should spend no more than 2 minutes on. It's pretty simple and you'll get the hang off it once you hear everyone else order. Roastbeef which is being sliced fresh as you wait - perfectly tender and rare, Pizza Rolls, Chicken Fingers, Fries and Onion Rings. No matter what you choose it's all part of that not healthly for you goodness that you need to splurge on occasionally.
I went with the Medium Roastbeef with Mustard/Mayo/Onions and Cheese. But you can fill in the ____________ to your hearts desire. My friend had a simple Roast Beef with the special sauce. Honestly her description of it didn't really sound tasty to me, so I'd probably stick to something saucy and cheesey. Top it off with a side a O Fries and made my way to the classic (and I do mean that literally) dining area. Nothing special....really, but anything else would not make this the experience known as Harrisons.
Certainly was worth the trip, relatively cheap and if you are into the trucker, construction man type - and you are looking - you'll get the bonus of some prospects. Definitely owe my friend Jeffrey a night out with Harrisons and drinks just for the tip. I so didn't think it was possible in North Andover. :)Listed in: Grub On Mecca's

having lived in the Merrimack Valley all my life, and a good 16 of those years in North Andover, i am more than familiar with Harrison's, i ate here alllllllllllllllll the time growing up, hell it was my first roast beef sandwich ever, and was the sandwich that made me into a roast beef addict, but what the hell happened to this place? I've been here probably twice in the past 6 months and had a horrible experience both times. First time the roast beef was cold, they skimped on sauce even though i asked heavy, and they forgot my onion, whatever that's cool, i'm sure it's pretty difficult to do your job after you just shot half a gram of heroin into your arm. Second time was just about 4 weeks ago and was the final straw. Don't get me wrong i understand it was a little late, it was something like 11 at night, but then again i always hold the stance, don't be open if you can't serve the same quality item you served in the afternoon. The roast beef was cold, overcooked (dry, no red, all black), the bun, well let's just say i'm sure they serve fresher bread at Guantanamo Bay, And to my final point, the price, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! HOW CAN YOU CHARGE THIS MUCH?! Do yourself a favor, stop listening to all the hype, this place lost it's touch when the original owner bounced, and also, Godsmack ate there, what more of a reason do you need to never eat somewhere again?

Damn.
I grew up next door to Harrison's in Village Green. During the summers we used to sit around the pool and we'd place a huge order and one of us would go up to pick it up. At the time, I didn't realize what I was dealing with.
This is the most underrated roast beef joints in the county, state, country, hemisphere, world. No kidding around here. It beats any other roast beef place anywhere.
I recommend ordering the following: lg beef w/ extra sauce, cheese, and radish on the side, pizza roll (a must try - deep fried pizza), french fries, onion rings, cookies, pickle, and a mocha shake (maybe not at the same time). The roast beef is thin and warm just the way it's meant to be (in my book).
I'm not trying to review other roast beef places here, but this place outdoes Kelly's without even trying. -
Review from Garry C.
Groveland, MA
Simply put, it's not Kelly's. While the roast beef is just as good as Kelly's, nothing else is. I found the place to be very dirty and felt gross leaving the place.
If you don't like roast beef, or aren't in the mood for it, then you have no options here. All they have is roast beef and insanely greasy sides. The fries are gross and taste like freezer burn and the onion rings are overly battered and don't taste like onions. Kelly's onion rings are the gold standard and there is no better.
While the roast beef may be good, nothing else here is. -

North Andover, MA
A good solid lunch spot. We often head here from our office.
Best part of Harrison's: the meat is very well done, very thinly sliced. I've had the Roast Beef, which is obviously what they're famous for, and it shows. It is certainly been one of the best RB sandwiches I've ever had (large beef + mustard).
What surprised me was how great the corned beef was. This is now my standard order.
Other food: most everything else on their menu is stuff they just by from the restaurant fulfillment company. It's OK, (the onion rings are pretty decent) but you can buy it at COSTCO yourself, too.
Staff: a little scary. They do their thing fast and accurately but that may be because they skip the basics of "Hello" and other niceties.
Premises: I prefer take out. Nothing to brag about here.
So despite all the drawbacks, you'll still note I give them 4-stars. That's how good the meat is. (this is coming from someone who eats a reduced animal protein diet) -

Boxford, MA
Harry's is a great roast beef place much beloved North Andover and Andover townies. The service is quick and the menu is bigger than some other roast beef places out there.
The decor is appropriately retro, fitting of a roast beef place and the atmosphere it should project- which is to say, it is a place meant to have a solid meal, and not the sort of place where you need to dress to impress.
Generally, if I am in the area on 114 or 495 , I always sort of check myself to see if I am hungry, because it's worth a stop every time--- that being said- the Michelin Guide gives various star ratings which I think are appropriate here---
1 star - "a very good restaurant in its category" - there are many roast beef places that are like this, solid, but nothing special
2 star- "excellent cooking, worth a detour" - I would put Harrison's in this bracket, along with one or two other places.
3 star- "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey" - the one roast beef place to rule them all, and the only one that deserves the word 'Famous' in its name, ya dig? -

Burlington, MA
This place has yummy oversized fries, is very cozy and has a kick ass fish sandwich. The downsides are that it's cozy aka small and they only take cash.
The wait is always long but it's because it is so popular and located on a busy section of Rt 125 in the vicinity of Andover, N Andover, Haverhill and Lawrence so be ready to wait.
The prices are bit high too but the quality is much better than the fast food places and the 99 down the street. Really friendly staff too. -

The beef was good. Got a medium, which was a good size. I'm also still tasting the onions 10 min later.
We planned on getting this for the road, since we were passing through town. When we started distrbuting sandwiches in the car, we noticed the abundance of sauce & decided to eat on the trunk of the car to prevent spillage.. Not designed for on-the-go.
I also don't eat fast food, & this seemed like a lesser version of Arby's -

Meh...
Kinda dingy, a little, well, sticky if you will.
Food is... alllllright. Eat too much of it tho, it'll have a "taco bell-esque" affect on you.
It's a local favorite that people swear by. But I just moved to Merrimack Valley about 3 years ago, and I'm not really impressed.
I'd rather go to Simards in Wilmington or Billys in Wakefield. -

Harrison's Roast beef is tucked away on the way into North Andover Center down route 125. In the realm of the unique world of North Shore (MA) roast beef, this is one of the top 5 places.
You certainly won't get service with a smile. In fact, service can be quite brash but it adds to the charm of Harrison's.
The menu is well known for their staple roast beef sandwiches. These delectable treats come in small, medium and large (onion roll for the large). You won't be able to get much for toppings like other roast beef joints. The standard sauce (bbq), mayo, cheese, mustard, horse radish are always wise selections. The menu also features crinkle cut fries, pizza rolls, kosher pickles, corned beef, large chocolate chip cookies, onion rings, and chicken cutlet sandwiches. And don't be surprised if you order a beef with sauce and mayo and a kosher pickle to hear the cashier yell out, "beef SM, pickle!"
Whether it's for a quick bite after a Merrimack College hockey game or to complete your quest for the most delicious North Shore style roast beef, Harrison's is the place to be if you're in the greater-Lawrence area. -

Wakefield, MA
This place has the best roast beef around that area. It is sort of a hidden gem on that particular road and it is easy to drive by. If you want a drink go to 99's on the same road. But if you want superior food, go to Harrisons.

Reading, MA
I still remember my first trip here when a buddy of mine took me. He would rave about the place all the time so I had to try it. I wasn't sure what to make of a roast beef joint that didn't have the word "famous" in their name. Isn't that illeagal in Massachusetts?
Anyhow, I loved the fact that they were slicing the beef right in front of you. It hadn't been sitting around and was really fresh. I got a "med, s, c". It was heaven on a bun. The beef melted in my mouth and onion roll was good, too. I had to have another. I went back to the counter and got a "large, s, c". Midway through that one, my buddy joked that I should probably go back for a small to complete the set. So I did. All told I had a large, medium and a small, plus a pizza roll. An event that became known as "eating for the cycle."
Is the staff friendly? No, they work at a roast beef joint in North Andover. Are you expecting them to pop out of bed every day excited about that prospect? Seriously, if you ding a place like this because of cranky employees you probably also complain that your drive-thru meal at McDonald's felt "rushed" and "impersonal." Also, no-- this isn't Kelly's roast beef. It doesn't have aquariums in the place and fish platters. It doesn't have other locations in furniture stores and it wasn't mentioned in "Good Will Hunting." It's roast-frickin-beef. And as the art goes, it's the pinnacle. So get over your townie self. -

oh, Harrisons. "delicious" doesn't even describe this place. We often order roast beef, pizza rolls, fries, mozzarella sticks and sometimes even a salad. I would recommend all of them. Finish the meal off with a chocolate chip cookies and you will certainly leave satisfied.
The only downfall is they also have relatively early closing hours, so you can't go "late-night" if you want too.
They are the best around, certainly recommended!
*NOTE: they are no longer cash only!! we were in on 6/30/11 and they now have a credit card machine!! -

Danvers, MA
It's good. I had better, but it's good. I asked for my usual toppings, but they were missing some of what I requested, but that happens to even the best of places. The service was fast. I ordered a medium and it was somewhat small...I think the other places I go to are just very generous with their portions.
I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 because the beef itself is really good. The portion sizes are small compared to other places...but then again, other places do give you too much (calorie counting people will agree), and the prices are good, too. I just wouldn't feel right giving it a 3 out of 5, so a 4 out of 5 is what it gets. -

I have recently discovered the "real" roast beef sandwich, and have become instantly hooked. Harrison's version is great. Onion roll, their own spicy sauce (recommended), cheese--you're good to go. They slice the beef fresh each sandwich right in front of you. I love Kelly's, but in terms of the pure sandwich, Harrison's is every bit as good, maybe better.
Their fries are fantastic. Hey, they have a signed picture of "Godsmack"-- what else do you need! -

New Providence, NJ
My wife and I stopped at this place before our 4-hour drive back to the NY/NJ area. The price is extremely reasonable, and I like how there are different size roast beef sandwiches for all appetites. My wife was happy with the small size, and I grabbed a medium size roast beef sandwich. Make sure that you get the sandwich with their special tangy sauce... and don't miss out on their awesome fries as well.
