I LOVE small airports!

At HIA, check-in and security lines are short or non-existent (depending on the time of day). Wait for baggage to reach claims carousels is very minimal. The employees are nicer and the facilities are much cleaner. Sure, I have to connect to another plane at Philadelphia or whereever, but the flights to those airports are usually short. (Turboprop planes are a little scary though.)

There isn't much to do or eat at HIA besides McDonald's and Hudson News, but that is not a concern for me.

I kinda like this little airport. Yeah, it's small and you have to fly to a hub to get anywhere, but… Read more »

Nice clean neat lil airport.
And the sweetest thing I've EVER seen in an airport: rocking chairs! I can't believe it.. there were rocking chairs on the side.. and you can just sit there and rock a bit while you're waiting for whatever.

The nice lady i talked to at the information booth was kind and helpful. This place made me feel welcome immediately.

Harrisburg Int'l totes itself as "the antidote to the big airport"... This is true, as HIA is small and easy to navigate.  However, I have a few really big issues with HIA and rarely fly out of there.

1.  Unless you're going Detroit or something there are no direct flights.  I hate layovers (except in Atlanta!) and I have huge issues with taking a commuter plane to Baltimore to get a real flight.

2.  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.  Flights out of HIA are usually at least 200$ more than BWI, Washington Nat'l, Philadelphia, etc. You're better off driving and getting a hotel somewhere else, or just paying someone to drop you off.

3.  Why do they call this an International Airport?  One flight a day to Canada does not make an International Airport!

If the prices were lower I would totally suck up my layover issue, but it's really just too expensive to fly out of Harrisburg unless someone else is willing to pay.  Any takers? :)

I really like this airport, despite it being a little more pricey than BWI and PHL, the convenience and ease of this tiny airstrip are well worth the extra money. Not to mention with fuel costs yo-yoing and tolls rising it might as well be the same price as traveling to a bigger airport, especially if you're going to pay to leave your car there. I also noticed they just added AirTran with direct flights to Orlando which is pretty nice.

At first, I liked this airport.  It's small, easy to navigate, and has free Wi-Fi.  But my experience flying out of here was ruined by one of the ground staff.  My mother is in a wheelchair and can't walk far, so when our plane did not have a jetway since another delayed flight got it, they wanted her to walk down a full flight of stairs.  I told them she couldn't walk, and the guy gave a big exasperated sigh and acted like he we were a huge inconvenience to him because she couldn't use the stairs.  My mother was really upset by this, which angered me, because he made her feel terrible.  They made us wait until everyone else was on the plane before the ticket agent took us down in the elevator.  I was under the impression that handicapped people were supposed to be treated better than this, but I guess I was mistaken!  I would've put this review under Delta, since that was our flight, but the guy looked like he worked for the airport, not any specific airline.
