My band played there Sat. - 1st time being there. Divey as it gets & small enough to have a good sized crowd w/30 people. Perfect spot for local punk acts, which they host often......for free!

I have to admit my favorite part of the evening was watching the obnoxious, in your face, drunken hippy get his ass kicked by a girl....while we played.

Fun times!

Place is great, never had a problem. Throw some great punk shows  and their freee!!! Drinks are little pricey..."$4 for a budlight!?" lol
wouldn't come here if there wasn't a show going on...old crowd kinda scares me a bit.

Aaahhh, Harold's.  You are a dive and a half, and I love it.

Husband's band plays here somewhat often, and I feel slightly uncomfortable every time I'm there.  Maybe because of the huge fight I helped break up not knowing there was a knife in the dude's hand, maybe because they serve drinks in a Dixie cup, or maybe because I just can't get used to a smokey bar.

Cheers to the cool bands I've seen (including Mike Watt and Tijuana Knife Fight), the bartender wearing a tube top who swears she's heard me sing, jello shots, and the surprisingly kinda clean toilet.

Feeling a little down? No worries, the women with no teeth are ready to cheer you up! This place first crashed into me when I was booking an outsider band from Hollywood, Rappers to be exact.  They were literally the only place in San Pedro not to big for their britches, by that I mean they welcomed this trio with open arms and guess what? NO PAY TO PLAY!

Well I should have seen trouble coming when I first walked in to the joint, dark, quiet and some strange dude whispering to himself and he really didn't look like he was into rap music!  Hell! I am not into rap music, but I had a job to do and I did it well!

It was a different story though, when my beautiful bomb shell singer and her two Tu-PAC look-a-likes walked in, I think think she started crying maybe?  No worries, that bar came to my rescue and in a hurry! The bartenders were at my feet every second attempting to accommodate my "VIP" peeps, yeah that was the funny part, and comp'd drinks left and right in an attempt to keep the singer from having a panic attack, which by the way was going to be inevitable anyway.

These cats were from an upscale side of Hollywood and this place is definitely in the downside part of Pedro...so you do the math.  So I guess you are dying to know how it went, right? Well it went off like a smash considering every redneck, homeless guy, toothless woman in San Pedro was the audience...they LOVED us!  Thanks to that bar and there hospitality and warm welcome to outsiders, it went pretty darn smoothly.  That last guy was right too, hanging from the rafters is acceptable...Ladies bring BIG guys with you though.

Dirty on the outside.  Dirty on the inside.  This is a place where I feel pretty comfortable spitting on the floor (or vomiting in the alley) and never blink an eye worrying about the repercussions.

I've been here several times for band shows (punk, punk, and more punk!) and always have a great time.  San Pedro has a fairly vibrant punk scene, and Harold's' Place is doing their part to support and keep it thriving (or at least they deal w/ it well).  I haven't the slightest idea how to tell you what bands are playing or when, but most weekends are booked DIY-style w/ at least one interesting local or touring band (sometimes 3 or 4).  Weekends have a very friendly but rowdy crowd and most are welcoming to strangers.  Don't live in Pedro?  Don't worry about it, foo!

I'll ONLY come for bands cuz the weekday regulars are a little too sketchy for me.  Yes, the neighborhood is a little dark, but don't worry about it.  If you're going to get stabbed in Pedro, it'll probably be at the Alhambra Room, NOT at Harold's.  But if (as mentioned in other reviews) you're a lady, you might want to bring some dudes.  Dudes with beards.

Oh, and NO DANCING!  Hanging from the rafters is apparently OK though.

I think it's ironic that a place this dirty on the inside is damn near sparkling white on the outside. Such are the contradictions about San Pedro.

Great punk scene for local bands and some out of towners. Watch yourself when you leave and at night on the nearby streets. This isn't the friendliest of neighborhoods and this isn't the most cheerful of crowds.

If you want a small, dark dive bar with cool locals who accept you for who or what you are, you've found it. The drinks are as stiff as the old mens levi's who gawk at you from across the room. Not the best part of San Pedro so bring some men along. they also have awesome punk shows on the weekends.

Harold's has the weird guy that offers to take a polaroid picture of you and  whoever you are with, for only 5 dollars.  Harold's also has a vibe all its own.  It's a working class bar with serious fangs.  Sometimes there is music there, sometimes the regulars bring a buffet dinner and other food.  Beware, many of the people I have met here just got out of jail.  But what the hell, it's a place to go and drink and melt the night away with the legendary feeling of San Pedro Dive Bars, the likes of which Charles Bukowski used to frequent, and several equally interesting cats still do.
