We decided to go to Harmony Grill before a show at Schubas. Since we hadn't been there before, we decided to go early, so we got a great parking spot in their small lot and no waiting for a table. The service was excellent.
Since we had tickets to the show and a reservation for the restaurant, we received a free mac 'n cheese appetizer. HEAVEN! I would highly suggest the mac here. It's one of my top 3 favorite mac 'n cheeses that I've had ever.
The menu is full of interesting/upscale pub food. The crab cake panini was a big hit with my husband, and I enjoyed my skirt steak pita. The steak was flavorful, but maybe just a little tough, which is a nature of the cut of meat, I guess. If I had to do it all over again, I'd just get a second appetizer of the mac...it was that good!
The prices were reasonable, especially for Chicago. Check in on yelp mobile and get an extra discount on your bill. I would definitely go back for a pre-show dinner. -

In a word, Harmony Grill is great. I've been there for food twice, and was taken aback by how good the food is both times. The 'po boy sandwhich was delcious- well seasoned & perfectly cooked. The beef tenderloin wrap was stunning- a 100% perfect medium rare beef and delicious sauce & bread combo.
The beer selection ain't half bad, either. Overall, a great neighborhood joint... Oh, and there's live music from time to time too. Bonus!
P.S. You might walk under a sign that says "Schuba's" and find this restaurant. I've been here twice and didn't realize there were two different establishments that are connected to each other, but have since been corrected. Techncially, Harmony Grill serves the food. And it's good. -

Was on the fence as to whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. I decided to be nice and go with 4.
A friend of mine and I were looking for a place to eat after seeing an afternoon play on a Sunday, and both being a bit broke, I checked to see what Groupons I had that were in the nearby neighborhood. I had a couple, but we decided on Harmony Grill. Neither of us had ever been there before.
It was unusually warm that day, so we opted to sit on the patio out front. The staff was very friendly and just attentive enough, not overbearing. We ordered the roasted garlic hummus for an appetizer. Came with pita wedges and diagonally sliced pieces of cucumber and carrot. The hummus was average, but acceptable. If yo want real hummus, you pretty much have to go to a Middle Eastern Restaurant. But this was OK.
My friend ordered the honey chicken brie sandwich, which I did not sample, mostly because he devoured it in less that 5 minutes. He said it was extremely good though.
I had less of an appetite that day and all the sandwiches and entrees seemed like too much, so I opted for a bowl of the vegan tofu chili. It was excellent. Could have been a tiny bit spicier, but it was still good. Chunky, hearty, full of beans and veggies. It was served with tortilla chips which were average (I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't served with cornbread, as one would normally expect.)
The only real (minor) complaint that I have about this place, it that while we were sitting outside, it started to rain. It went from a slight drizzle to pouring within maybe 10-15 minutes. The staff never offered to seat us inside. And when it finally did start pouring, we had to grab our remaining food quickly and dash inside. Once inside, the staff ignored, didn't ask if we needed help, so we had to seat ourselves. We had had to leave our water glasses outside because it was too much to carry, staff did not offer us fresh glass. They almost seemed oblivious to the fact that we had moved.
All in all though, there service was otherwise good, the food really hit the spot, and we got a great deal with the Groupon. I would go back to this place. -
Review from Aminda S.
I love Schuba's, so this pains me. Really. My experience over the weekend at Harmony Grill was less than satisfactory. I wish I could give them a 2.5 - a little extra for the delicious bloody marys!
Things didn't start out all that bad. After seeing Schuba's brunch featured on 1st Look, I was seriously jonesin' for a Bloody Mary. So a friend and I decided to meet at Schuba's and quench my thirsty desires. After starting with a bev at the bar we were then seated in the Harmony Grill side of the venue.
I'm not a picky eater, per se, but I do follow the Weight Watchers diet so I tend to make substitutions to most meals out and the following of those specific orders are crucial to my diet being a success. So I ordered a make your own omelet made with egg whites and a bevy of veggies. Simple enough, especially when the option to substitute egg whites was written right there under the ingredients to choose from. I also substituted a fruit cup for my potatoes. My friend ordered the blueberry pancakes with a fruit cup on the side.
During the course of the 30+ minutes (pushing 40) we waited for our food, I watched some sort of bathroom mishap unfold which had to be resolved by not one, not two, but three mops. Then the mop water bucket tipped over - all of this five feet from our bathroom facing table. Not terribly appetizing, but hey, shit happens. Pun intended.
After asking our waitress the status on our food, we were told that everyone had been seated at once and so they were backed up in the kitchen. Okay. Fair enough. That is until our order arrived - my omelette, bright yellow with yolks, and my friend's pancakes without their accompanying fruit cup and seemingly no syrup. My fruit cup was present, however it was only filled with filler fruit - cantaloupe and honeydew. Bah...come on!
When I pointed out that my omelette was not correct, I was met with a "well, we can take it to the back and fix it...if you want," in a tone that felt more like "can't you just eat this, you're kind of putting me out" Then when my mate asked for syrup, he was told the blueberry jam concoction to the right of his stack was actually "blueberry syrup." Not wanting to inconvenience the staff, he graciously bowed out and accepted that he was having pancakes and jam. I finally flagged down a waitress and asked again for regular syrup so I wouldn't have to look at his face, teeming with disappointment, any longer. She too seemed somewhat surprised that someone would ask for regular syrup. What's with the inconvenienced attitudes?
Our server did attempt to make things right when she delivered the check, letting us know she removed the side of fruit and egg whites charge from our bill.
Schuba's is one of my favorite places, but I'll think twice before hitting them up for brunch again. Being busy isn't an excuse for general hesitation to satisfy customers. -
Review from Katy S.
Schubas/Harmony Grill is, perhaps, the most underrated brunch in the city. There is typically no wait, great food (breakfast or lunch), fair prices, solid bloody marys, and cozy atmosphere. A few weekends ago, I took 2 friends who are well versed on brunch hot spots to Schubas, and they were very pleased. I typically order the Migas- eggs with tortillas, black beans, avocado, cilantro, pico de gallo- delicious cure for a slight hangover. My friend ordered Tamatillo Smoked Pork and Eggs and the dish was FABULOUS. It was a great combination of sweet and savory flavors on a delicious corncake that wasn't too heavy. It was very tasty and was definitely something I couldn't recreate at home. Their sweet options are also great- challah french toast, and pancakes all with fresh fruit.

Hey Harmony Grill....serve your signature dish at brunch!
I had my heart set on trying one of the delicious (so I am told) varieties of Mac & Cheese when visiting for lunch at 1pm on a Sunday. Unfortunately, they do not serve their Mac & Cheese during brunch hours. Great...now what to order....
First, we started out with a large order of the beignets. They were the best thing we had. The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was OK, but certainly nothing special. I also had the chance to try my wife's burger. Again, it was OK.
I will say that their breakfast items did look good, so perhaps that is the way to go.
Service was definitely spotty as it took forever to get silverware and napkins. I am not sure that I would return. There are just too many good restaurants in Chicago to waste my time. -

Recipe for Happiness:
Take one comfortable booth on a warm Friday evening, and open the restaurant's front windows to allow lovely unseasonable sunlight and fresh air enter.
Put two hungry and very thirsty ladies, armed with one Groupon, into said booth.
Introduce a friendly server, who quickly brings waters, menus, and drink menus.
Irrigate said ladies with copious amounts of cabernet.
Nourish said ladies with two huge salads - one a cobb, the other a southwest salad with chicken.
Put a small candle on the table to gently light the interior as the sun slowly sinks behind the bank building in the west.
Have the server stop by occasionally to make sure ladies are well-lubricated and content. Never hover, but be available.
Watch said ladies roll themselves to their feet and walk out, satisfied, satieted, and only a little unsteady.

Cute, cozy neighborhood spot.
Stopped in with a girlfriend of mine for dinner.
Seated right away, as was everyone I saw come in.
Friendly, attentive, and helpful wait staff.
Steak pita- delicious. Great tender flavored steak, fresh lettuce and tomato, tasty pita.
Burger- I didn't try it but was told it was "better than average."
I would come back if I was in the area. -
Review from Elise K.
After only having stopped by the outdoor area for drinks, this winter I came here as a late night Friday-night dinner. Despite it being 9:30 we had to wait for a table. The staff wasn't exactly the nicest when I tried to ask about a table. Despite this we got a table about 20 minutes later. The waitress was incredibly nice, but overall service was a bit slow.
The ambiance was quiet and cozy even though a rock show was going on next door. I had a burger and tater tots. Not the most exciting dish but the burger was well cooked and extremely filling. My boyfriend had some dish with the most buttery grits available.
Paying the bill took forever because the waitress disappeared. After a long digestion period, we finally got everything settled. -

I so used to love the food here. Went today for Sunday Brunch. We were seated after standing around for 5 minutes. Then, no one came to the table for another 15 minutes. We weren't there during a super busy time either. Many tables were empty, since we arrived kind of late for brunch.
The signature egg dish I ordered was supposed to be pulled pork on corn cakes with poached eggs. The pulled pork was full of sweet barbecue sauce and was horribly overcooked. It didn't even have corn cakes, they just put really small pancakes there instead. The hash browns were black and overcooked, too. It was also cold! My dining companion ordered a n egg dish with biscuits and gravy. They gave him almost no gravy, and the biscuits and eggs were dry. They definitely need to hire a new chef.
They came back to fill coffee after a half hour, finally. Unfortunately, not going back! -

Best part about thsi place - definitely it's location! I must say, if I was going to a show at Shuba's, I'd definitely plan to make life easier by eating at Harmony Grill versus commuting all over the place plus they have parking. Score!
It's just typical American cuisine. Nothing special, nothing fancy but good and fair prices. I had shrimp and grits. My bad, I'm always trying to go fancy pants when in reality, one look at this menu and it's clear as day your best bet is a sandwich of some sort. It's not that they were bad, just that this isn't the place to get it and I might have been happier with the panini that I had originally intended on ordering. Mac and Cheese looked good and judging by other reviews on here, that's what you get when you go here. Now I know.
Truth be told, I'm not going to go out of my way to return unless I was already planning on going to Schuba's. -

Jalapeno mac'n'cheese!
Creamy, dreamy, happy
I'll take seconds, if you please!
The sole reason why we go to Harmony Grill is for their jalapeno macaroni and cheese. M swears by it. I think it's alright.
We've had other food from Harmony Grill and it's been good - nothing special.
The service is okay too. It's a little slow, but that's only because (for whatever reason) they only have one server. Maybe that's just the case on the occasions when we've been there. Maybe they are better staffed on other evenings.
Harmony Grill is through Schuba's. Like, you enter Schuba's (the bar), walk to the back and turn right and there's this little restaurant called Harmony Grill. It's got booths and tables. The table tops are copper colored and there's thick crown-molding around the ceiling. It's nice, but definitely casual.
Like I said before, the only reason why we go to Harmony Grill is their macaroni and cheese. You can pay a dollar and add extra ingredients to it (kind of like adding toppings to a pizza). You don't have to add jalapenos. It could be bacon or tomatoes or whatever.Listed in: Groupons

Stop in for a Green Line, French Onion Soup, and Burger last week for lunch, and I left a very happy, stuffed, and impressed person.
I'm a fan of the stain glass windows and wood panels, it reminds me of some super cool old school spots. The bartender was on point the whole time. Really quick service was a huge plus during my limited lunch time from work.
The French Onion soup was super tasty and the Burger really surprised me, it was the soft bread with a great amount of meat.
Top of the line bar food. Ill be back! -

I didn't know much about Harmony Grill when we decided to head there for brunch so it was our mistake to not look at the music schedule to see if there was a children's series that morning. There was. And the place was jammed with parents and kids and loud.
Warning: Check to see if there is a children's series on Saturday before going.
We ordered a bloody mary and beer but since we had a Groupon we were charged full price for the bloody. Hm. Really? The bloody was good and came with a chunk of cheese, slice of salami and pickle.
He had the Honey Chicken Brie and I got the Turkey Chipotle Club. I asked to substitute the side for some mac n cheese which I had seen someone else order, but was told they couldn't allow for the substitution because we were ordering off of the brunch menu....But it's after 12 and I just saw an order go by and I wouldn't mind being charged for it....?
The food was ok not over the top fabulous but ok. The side of potato salad wasn't to my liking but everything else was fine. OK is not a bad thing some days. We'd go back and try it again for lunch or dinner. -
Review from Amanda G.
I have been seeing shows for years and never realized that Harmony Grill is owned from the same people. Never realized it was attached...ooops! I have eaten here a few times and have dreams about the turkey burger every now and again. As for the tater tots...come on...some of the best in the city!! There is a perfect balance of crunch, mushy, and greasy goodness! I would not recommend these to be eaten on a daily basis, but there is nothing wrong with consuming an order every few months. The hummus plate is a great way to start a meal, but steer clear of the cream of broccoli soup. No chunks of broccoli here; only cream and a slight broccoli taste.
As for the ambiance, I love the "rock art". There is nothing better than eating a solid meal, enjoying conversation with others, and looking at various musicians on canvas! -
Review from Sean B.
"Do *you* have a reservation?" three people snapped at us as we walked in with a well-dressed group of six at about 6pm on a Sunday night.
"Well, ....OK...." the host finally says. We are seated immediately at the middle table.
The atmosphere, with gender neutral bathrooms and eyeball sconces and chandeliers, is golden and fantastical, baroque over-the-top moldings, comfortable lighting and nice ambiance. It is too bad you have to enter through a kitchen area and they force you to walk through the bar (Schubas) to get to the restaurant.
"Do you serve breakfast all day?" I ask, as the breakfast menu is on the back of the dinner menu and doesn't have times listed on it, except to say "served at 9am." Nope, the waitress quips.
For "Harmony" there was dissonance so far.
I order a diet coke and much to my surprise a large large one arrives. No asking for the refill it automatically arrives. We're in atonal still but I'm hearing perfect fourths and fifths.
"Can I get the mini mac and cheese with the goat cheese added?" (The regular mac and cheese let you add ingredients like goat cheese for an upcharge). No. Even if I pay? No. Why not if I pay? Can't do it sorry. Can you please ask? Well, ok.
They struck a chord when she told me not only did they agree to the goat cheese but she then didn't charge me for it on the bill.
C dominant 7 to F major!
Harmony started dissonant and grew consonant. I'd come back here. It is a little loud, and they could do some of the details of the menu better. However, I think they have the right idea. -

Cozy, neighborhood spot. With good food and a comfortable vibe.
French Onion Soup, was good. They put plenty of cheese and they broil it just right so the cheese is gooey and carmelized. The Shrimp and Grits were pretty good and a good alternative to basic bar food and the burger was pretty good, too. The service was pretty good, but the kitchen was pretty fast. I would definitely swing by again if I i was in the neighborhood. -

We came with a groupon and were seated immediately. The place was hopping with a concert going on next door. But the place itself was cozy and still christmas-y when we were there. We ordered
chili - slightly salty but very meaty
turkey chipotle club - SO GOOD! the bread was toasted (and buttered) to perfection
meat loaf - ok, disappointing because it seemed tough
Will come back to sandwiches!!! -
Review from Aurore L.
Went back for the first time in years and it was as delicious as ever. My dreamy Californian waiter is gone but the beignets remain along with the raspberry coulis. Don't be daft and share a small order while waiting on your brunch fare: it's worth it.
Treats of the day for us: migas or - gringos version - egg omelet with corn tortillas, tomato, onion, spicy red sauce, Chihuahua cheese, avocado, cilantro, red beans, sour cream & pico de gallo for me; tomatillo smoked pulled pork and eggs with hashbrowns for him.
The latter is just amazing.
No wait on a Sunday at 11 am. Don't forget to admire the art on the wall - especially if you are a Johnny Cash fan.Listed in: Punchy, crunchy brunch

I go to Schuba's/Harmony Grill more frequently now that I discovered what a great brunch they have. Took a big group there recently and they could not have been more accomodating, even when some of our group was late. Servers have always been friendly & attentive. Nice that there's some options for spots to eat - sidewalk cafe, dining room, or the acoustic brunch on Sundays. The brunch, above all else, will keep me coming back!

I looked at the menu before I got here and nothing really stuck out. But nonetheless I was meeting a friend here and had a groupon.... So to Harmony Grill I go.
My friend and I decided to split a couple sandwiches. She got the club, and I got the chicken pecan bree. Boy o boy for nothing sticking out on the menu these sandwiches were fantastic. What Harmony Grill has basically done is taken classics and put one or two extra ingredients in the to make them amazing. We had the bread pudding for dessert which is huge. It is heavy on the chocolate side and would of been better with ice cream over whipped cream. But if you're not full yet or even if you are full you should probably hit up the desserts.
The server was good, he was a little awkward but in a cute endearing way, he even boxed up our dessert to go. Overall I really liked Harmony and am glad groupon brought me here, I can't wait to go back and try brunch.
PS I heard a rumor about half off mac n cheese on weds normally? don't quote me! -

I wanted to hate you, Harmony Grill. We were met with attitude about not having reservations, we'll have to wait for 20 minutes. 10 minutes went by and we were sat in a half empty dining room. Ummm, ok.
Our waitress was nice, not overly so. Green tea was good. I ordered the steak pita with tater tots and the hubs got the meatloaf. He was very happy with his meal, and I liked mine. I wish the pita was a little easier to cut. It had a good amount of meat on it. I wish it had more than lettuce, tomato & a chunk of avocado on it but it was yummy. I am in love with those tater tots though. Who knew almost burnt to a crisp tater tots were amazing?!
I don't think we'll go out of our way to go there often but I can't say we will never go again. Maybe we'll make reservations next time so no one needs to pull out the attitude. -

I have been going to Harmony Grill from brunch for years. The Beignets keep me coming back... they are wonderful! Also, they have different kinds of southern brunch items such as pulled pork over corn cakes (delicious) and the biscuits and gravy is tasty too! However, I have been quite disappointed the last few visits as it takes FOREVER to get your meal. I'm not sure if the kitchen just cannot support the Shuba's Acoustic Brunch along with the regular restaurant or if they are understaffed. Probably a combination of both. Unfortunately, these long waits are really killing the enjoyment of the restaurant and making it falling out of our brunch rotation.

Harmony grill is my favorite brunch spot in the city. Low key, no wait and cozy. Everything I've had has been awesome. My favorite is the chicken Brie sandwich- focaccia, apples, brie, grilled chicken - ahh so good. All of the Mexican themed brunch items are amazing too. The French toast with berries is another awesome option if you're into something sweet- It's on delicious challah bread.

Harmony Grill is the restaurant sister to Schuba's. It is a solid neighborhood spot with very good grub, especially for brunch. A word that defines this place is cozy.
When I eat brucnh at Harmony Grill I normally go for the breakfast half of the menu and I generally go with the southwester fare. Chilaquiles are rock solid but not too spicy. Corn cakes are awesome but be ready for carb overload.
For dinner I generally stick to sandwiches. Honey Chicken Brie, Bufflao chicken, and the burger are all rock solid. Mac & Cheese might be the best thing on the menu.
At the end of the day I give this place 4 stars as the food is good and the vibe is great. It is an affordable little neighborhood spot with a wonderul vibe.
As an aside, Schuba's please get better beers on draft! You seem to be a place that would have more good beer, but you miss the boat here. Carrying a few Goose Island's and a Bell's is nice but try to get creative and try some other craft brew's, it would really add to the charm of the place! -

I stumbled upon Harmony Grill purely because a friend of mine had a Groupon. It's right behind Schubas so I didn't know what to expect - is it a restaurant or is it a bar? Open the doors and find out!
It's a restaurant and a pretty good one.
I read a review that said, it's a no frills place and that's spot on.
It's no frills, service was great while we were there. Randomly went on a Tuesday around 7pm and it was dead and then it was packed around 8pm.
My friend and I split the Mac n Cheese - which btw was great! Not too cheesy-noodles weren't over or under cooked - bread crumbs were crunchy - it was great. Let me add - you can add stuff to make your own mac n cheese - let's be honest - I haven't met anybody who hates mac and cheese.
For my entree I had the chicken cobb salad and it too was great and the perfect portion size.
We were STILL wanting more and ended up ordering the Apple Cobbler - which I think might be the wrong name for it - it's more of an apple turnover with vanilla ice cream and it too was amazing!
I highly suggest this little hidden place - it's reasonably priced as well - great week night dinner place! -

Really happy I stumbled on this spot. Freaking slamming! I came here for brunch and got the Fried Chicken 'n Biscuit meal...you've got to be kidding me! It was a total slam dunk that my taste buds and tummy both appreciated.
The fried chicken tenders were unreal and the biscuits drenched in beef flavored gravy were by far the best I've ever had (sorry mom). The service was also awesome and I am definitely going to be grabbing food from here more again very soon. I've also heard the bar part of this restaurant, Schubas, is supposed to be great with live bands. So pretty much...GET YOU SOME! Bizzzoom -

A comfy, beautiful lounge to relax and have a great selection of bottled beers and drafts. The atmosphere is very cozy, and has a homey feel to it. Dimly lit and comfy booths that can accommodate 4 people easily on each side.
Great menu that consists of mostly sandwiches with a unique twist. Worth checking out the Cuban Pork sandwich! -

I walk by schubas many times a week - but had never noticed harmony grill. Went there with a friend for brunch and had an absolutely delicious egg white mona omlette with pesto and goat cheese.
A little frustrating that they don't allow any substitutions on their specialty omlettes at all.
Hash browns were pretty average -

When you walk in the door of Harmony Grill on a Saturday afternoon, the first thing you notice is the drink specials and all the ambiance of a highway diner. Assuming you make it in before their awkward period around 2 where neither the brunch nor dinner menus are being served, you'll be surprised by the quality of their simple menu items, even if they occasionally include strange pairings. The turkey burger is one of those great surprises, while the turkey chipotle club has both a delightful kick and the "unique" flavor of an obviously rehydrated fried egg. The bacon on the buffalo chicken sandwich seems like a gratuitous addition of salt and grease, while the sweet potato fries are impeccably crisp. Do not neglect the omelettes either; those eggs taste far more fresh.
Even without the gritty, indie vibe of Schubas, Harmony Grill is an acceptable choice for a decent lunch, and can be further improved by drowning it in mimosas or bloody Marys. -

So since my last visit to Harmony Grill I've been back a few more times for breakfast and its just as good every time. I've tried the Migas which is an omelet/corn tortilla casserole type dish as well as the Eggs
Benedict. Both were very good but I think the Pesto Sandwich is going to be my go-to from now on. My boyfriend has ordered the Mario omelet every time and loves it so much he doesn't need to try anything else. Two big thumbs up for Harmony Grill's breakfast/brunch!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Harmony Grill's mac and cheese is my original favorite in Chicago.
SO. GOOD.
Breadcrumbs and all, extra toppings if you need that sorta stuff.
Once when I was at DePaul, I biked here in the rain for an order to go. Yep. Though now that I'm a "real adult," I've discovered it's much more enjoyable to eat it on the patio with copious amounts of beer! -

We have consistently enjoyed our experiences at Harmony Grill. This time, we had brunch. Whereas in the past it has always been later, & we have enjoyed the build your own mac & cheese, sandwiches, salads or an appetizer. But this time we were faced with the decision of omelets, traditional breakfast items, migas, beignets, corn cakes, pancakes, french toast, or even sandwiches. I believe we ended up with biscuits & gravy and an omelet that I designed with ingredients of my selection.
Our server was attentive & energetic, & the mood at the restaurant was quite chipper for a Saturday morning.
If you are looking for a place to grab food before a show at Schubas I would highly recommend Harmony Grill.
It is a good spot to enjoy some good food, drinks, & actually have conversation. (same owners as Lincoln Hall & Schubas). -

Lots of comfort food, focusing on Mac and Cheese it seams, great place for brunch (and to use another groupon!). Had the pancakes which were great. Nice busy and well run feeling inside, service is good, food reasonably priced...ticks down the list for a great place to come with friends on the weekend and enjoy a nice brunch (there aren't that many that aren't overcrowded and annoying!)

After going here at least 20 times, including today, I decided I was long overdue for giving this place a review.
I could probably go here every weekend, eat the exact same brunch (Red Eye Burrito, beignets and coffee) and be completely happy. My love for these two items keeps me coming back. This place is no frills and the service is sometimes so-so, but it's laid back, affordable and always good. The vibe is completely unassuming matched with surprisingly good eats. I'd call it creative comfort food. Yum! -

First of all, you need to try the macaroni and cheese. Spectacular.
We've been here here several times and have always had great food. Originally, I was expecting the menu to consist of greasy bar food. But that's not the case at all. Much of the items can be made vegetarian, so there are a lot of options (which usually isn't the case). The Vegan Burrito ($8.50) is one of my favorites. -

We thought it'd be a great idea to be adventurous and head over to Flat Top Grill for their breakfast. Too bad they seem to be an epic failure in that department, ending Sunday brunch at the early hour of around 11:30am. Whatever is wrong with these people, it's no little thing. Who ends serving Sunday breakfast in Lakeview at the hour most of us are rolling out of bed or Church. I mean really, come on!
Happily, we spied Harmony Grill nearby and remembering that I had the best, hands down, vegan burrito there several times before, we thought we'd try it out. First off, the coffee was strong and flavorful and really hit that "need coffee now--must function" kind of feeling. The waitress from the beginning was really nice and warm. We started with these sweet and puffy beignets with a raspberry sauce. They were little mounds of square fried goodness dusted with a generous amount of powdered sugar. Divine. I next had the make your own omelette and though I ordered an egg white one, I got a whole egg one instead. I didn't want to cause a fuss because the place was packed so I managed. My omelette with jalapenos and mozzarella cheese came with two pieces of whole wheat toast and I was happily stuffed.
My other half had a voracious appetite (I told him that he may have a tapeworm living inside him tummy, but he doesn't lend any credence to that) and ordered a chicken and biscuits with gravy. That dish was enormous. Two huge biscuits and chicken strips drenched in gravy with eggs and hash brown potatoes on the side. Not even Paul Bunyan would be hungry after that.
Other than the little egg white issue everything was really great. We'll be back several times over! -

I had been to Schubas a few times and always heard good things about Harmony Grill, so when a Groupon came up for them I jumped on it. I heard that they have awesome mac and cheese so I got a side of that along with their shrimp jambalaya. The mac and cheese was really awesome, so I think next time I go here I will definitely check that out, and the jambalaya was also pretty good as well. My "ex" also had the vegan burrito with chips and salsa. I had a bite of that as well, and it was pretty good as well.
I've heard from a friend that they have a great bruncb, so I will have to check that out sometime if I can wake up before 11 AM on a weekend, probably not though. -

Oh Harmony Grill, why do you have to confuse me with your almost perfect Bloody Mary and your too hard to pass up Mac N Cheese and your too cute for their own good waiters? The Bloody Mary is the perfect kick of spice but where is the pickle? Where is the pickle?!? It's not your fault - to pickle or not to pickle is an old battle fought by many other restaurants. But where are the olives? Sighs.
I like the Create Your Own option with your Mac N Cheese menu (mushrooms + jalapenos minus the bread crumbs = yum, yum, doggy bag!)
Schubas always has a great band playing on their little stage: either local or one that's just on the cusp of being discovered. Poke your head in next door after you eat or just sit at the bar in the next room and lap up the divey/neighborhood feel which is either slightly upgraded or downgraded depending on the crowd. Both are fun and worth the trip. Outdoor patio included - batteries not.
I bet Homer Simpson would be all over this one. Even the name sounds like an afterthought of his: "Mmm, Schubas . . ." Pat your stomach and go there now. Then go to the gym. -

If you're a brunch traditionalist, you're gonna love this place. Why? Harmony Grill offers all the staples of this mid-morning meal - eggs, omelettes, pancakes, french toast...a few unique options are tossed in (beignets, cheddar corn cakes), but for the most part, they have all the staples you know, and usually love.
I ordered a bloody mary (with a kick apparently) and went with the Luigi omelette (smoked chicken-apple sausage and mozzarella). The omelette was okay (though it needed SOMETHING...I'm just not sure what), and the bloody mary wasn't bad.
The folks at my table offered up mixed reviews on their grub. According to my friend, the honey chicken brie was pretty blah, but a few other folks raved about the fried chicken. Apparently, they have really good Busch Light in a can too.
The prices were very reasonable, and the service was good. Not a place I'm desperate to return to, but there are some bright spots on the menu that are worth a try.
